Romi Brown moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Romi Brown, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Notice

The article Sofia Nair has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not appear to meet WP:GNG or WP:NGYMNAST. Searches indicate she's not ranked highly in gymnastics and does not have another claim to notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Container categories[edit]

Container categories, such as category:Sportspeople, are for grouping subcategories. You should not place individual articles in them.-gadfium 21:36, 19 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Seconded. Adding Category:Athletes is doubly problematic, as that category should never be used, per the note at the top of the page. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 17:06, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the info Hehdisk (talk) 18:35, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hehdisk, I think you're moving too fast with your category work. Could you focus on other types of edits while you familiarize yourself with the categorization policy? I'm hoping when you read it, you'll see at least two problems with your creation of Category:Sports Competitors and addition of it to many articles. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 15:52, 21 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I will read the policy and see what I can do to improve the category. I will also focus on other edits in the mean time Hehdisk (talk) 16:01, 21 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hehdisk, since you've begun categorizing articles again, you have been making the same mistake as before. Articles belong in the most specific categories applicable. As an example, Evan Bates does not belong in Category:Sports competitors because he's already in a more specific category, Category:American male ice dancers.
You can click through narrower and narrower categories to get from the first to the second. It goes Sports competitors > Sports competitors by sport > Figure skaters > Figure skaters by nationality > American figure skaters > American male figure skaters > American male ice dancers, where we find Bates properly categorized.
Properly placing pages in the most specific category like this is a vital part of categorization work. Placing articles in overly broad categories like you did is unhelpful, as Bates is now in Sports competitors twice. I was hopeful that reading WP:CAT and asking questions would be a path to productive category work for you. So far that does not seem to have worked. Are you sure you would like to continue categorization work, and if so, do you have any ideas about how you can improve your understanding of the policy? You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Category:Sports Competitor requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2022 December 21#Category:Sports Competitor. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. A tag has been placed on Category:Montenegrin rhythmic gymnasts indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself. Liz Read!
