Arbitration

  • Following the banning of an editor by the WMF last year, the Arbitration Committee resolved to hold an RfC regarding on-wiki harassment. The RfC has been posted at Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee/Anti-harassment RfC and is open to comments from the community.
  • The Medicine case was closed, with a remedy authorizing standard discretionary sanctions for all discussions about pharmaceutical drug prices and pricing and for edits adding, changing, or removing pharmaceutical drug prices or pricing from articles.

Your GA nomination of Robby Fabbri

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Robby Fabbri you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. WikiCup 2020 July newsletter

The third round of the 2020 WikiCup has now come to an end. The 16 users who made it into the fourth round each had at least 353 points (compared to 68 in 2019). It was a highly competitive round, and a number of contestants were eliminated who would have moved on in earlier years. Our top scorers in round 3 were:

  • New York (state) Epicgenius, with one featured article, 28 good articles and 17 DYKs, amassing 1836 points
  • Botswana The Rambling Man , with 1672 points gained from four featured articles and seventeen good articles, plus reviews of a large number of FACs and GAs
  • England Gog the Mild, a first time contestant, with 1540 points, a tally built largely on 4 featured articles and related bonus points.

Between them, contestants managed 14 featured articles, 9 featured lists, 3 featured pictures, 152 good articles, 136 DYK entries, 55 ITN entries, 65 featured article candidate reviews and 221 good article reviews. Additionally, Denmark MPJ-DK added 3 items to featured topics and 44 to good topics. Over the course of the competition, contestants have completed 710 good article reviews, in comparison to 387 good articles submitted for review and promoted. These large numbers are probably linked to a GAN backlog drive in April and May, and the changed patterns of editing during the COVID-19 pandemic. As we enter the fourth round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Please also remember that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met. Please also remember that all submissions must meet core Wikipedia policies, regardless of the review process.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Your Deletion of my Draft Wikipedia Article: SUGAR Cosmetics

Hi Wikipedia User,

This is in regard to your deletion of my draft page SUGAR Cosmetics on Feb 28th 2020. As I am a new Wikipedia editor, would there be a possibility for you to help me publish new Wikipedia articles? Needed some assistance on this.

I will wait to hear back.

Thanks!

Hi PallaviArora109 and welcome to Wikipedia. Since you very clearly have a conflict of interest with this subject, assuming you are their PR & Marketing Manager, you will need to follow a few steps on Wikipedia. Please understand that no one owns this article, and you do not have a right to dictate what is written on it (unless it violates our biography of a living person policy) and your best bet would be to walk away. Us volunteer editors often resent that paid or conflict of interest editors write non-neutrally, displaying obvious bias toward themselves or their clients, and write promotionally. A neutral point of view is one of the five pillars of Wikipedia, and is non-negotiable. All of your edits are being added to promote your company. The encyclopedia is here for knowledge, it isn't here to be used as a personal website.
If you have any connection whatsoever with this organization you must WP:DISCLOSE it and you should use WP:Edit requests for such major edits as the one you did. Please do not edit without disclosing any financial connections you have per our Wikimedia Terms of Use.You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page. Note that editing with a conflict of interest is discouraged, but permitted as long as it is declared (you should use WP:Edit requests on the articles talk page if you are editing beyond removing vandalism or copyediting though). Concealing a COI can lead to a block. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 12:27, 3 July 2020 (UTC)

I guess I've now brought in everything I wanted to. Jeez, is this ever easier when two people do it -- I guess a collaborative encyclopedia was a good idea after all! Thanks for hosting the draft. :) - Astrophobe (talk) 21:40, 3 July 2020 (UTC)

Also, it goes without saying, but please feel free to tinker as much as you want with all the text I added. I always struggle with concise and understandable explanations of political philosophy ... - Astrophobe (talk) 21:40, 3 July 2020 (UTC)
Astrophobe, of course. I'm happy to collaborate to expand the encyclopedia! Also.....aggghhh I was going to lean on you! I'll have to find a better explanation of her book then in which she examined how Jeremy Bentham was a political thinker. I haven't taken a philosophy course since high school. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 21:45, 3 July 2020 (UTC)
Haha, I guess I took 2 political philosophy courses in university and I actually paid attention in one of them, so I shouldn't really have any excuse ... I just gave the bentham book a try - Astrophobe (talk) 21:54, 3 July 2020 (UTC)
LOL, anything you write will be better than my previous explanation. Thanks for your help . HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 22:03, 3 July 2020 (UTC)

...that journalist Jim Coleman made up the Curse of Muldoon to meet an editing deadline?
...that journalist Jim Coleman continued to use a typewriter until his death in 2001?
...that while on his deathbed, journalist Jim Coleman asked his son to bring his typewriter to the hospital so he could continue writing?
  • I'm playing around with it now. I can't say "deathbed" though, since it's not in the source. Maybe something along the lines of "last conversation with son" perhaps? Flibirigit (talk) 01:02, 8 July 2020 (UTC)

I think Perron lives in Quebec during the off-season. Not sure. Thought that you may want to add that to the article before the GA review. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 17:02, 12 July 2020 (UTC)

Happy about

Hi Calvary (Little Company of Mary Health Care) is my employer. Happy for that to be included appropriately. Cant see where or how to do so. The entry is incorrect as it stands. The inclusions are consistent with our official webpages and documents and happy to cite those sites - thought I had. Don't have a lot of time to spend on this.

Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anthony James Brennan (talkcontribs) 00:32, 13 July 2020 (UTC)

Anthony James Brennan, I'm sorry you don't feel you have time to follow our Terms of Service which clearly state that one must disclose any financial conflict of interests through WP:DISCLOSE. I am a volunteer who chooses to spend my time here so I hope you can see why I would be a little put off when you wish for me to do the work for you when you Don't have a lot of time to spend on this. Your edits violated our strict copyright policy and all future edits (which I strongly discourage you from even making) should be done on the articles talk page. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 00:42, 13 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi HickoryOughtShirt

You misunderstand me. I am keen to correct the entry, have drafted the corrections consistent with our organisation's public websites, in terms of TOS I am happy to comply by having it acknowledged that I am employee (but no get specific financial benefit) I just cannot see practically how to do the disclosure and in terms of time poverty am not finding this correction process easy or intuitive. I think you are advising me to not directly edit the page but make comment on it. Is that correct? BTW we have 120 volunteers here at Calvary Hobart and it was one of our fantastic volunteers who noticed the incorrect Wikipedia page and urged me to correct it. Hope you can help

Anthony James Brennan, Yes, I am essentially asking you to make WP:Edit requests on the article talk page (Talk:Calvary Hospital, Hobart) and disclosing any financial or personal interests you have with this organization. You would follow the guidelines at WP:Disclose to do so. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 02:36, 14 July 2020 (UTC)

Sir, please step in Anu Malik page's controversy section to save it from unilateral editing by Bonadea

Sir, even after Anu Malik has been exonerated by National Commission on Women on his fake MeToo cases, Bonadea is abusing her powers and is indulged in unilateral criticism of Anu Malik by deleting/removing all the sentences which supports him, while including those facts(Many fake) which are against him, without knowing the reality. I am from India, i know the on-ground scenario, Bonadea seems to be from Sweden, she doesn't know anything about Anu Malik, and is just involved in her gender bias! Please act as 'STATUE OF JUSTICE' and revert edits of heavy criticism for maintaining Wikipidea's neutral policy. Gyaansevak (talk) 15:59, 13 July 2020 (UTC)

Gyaansevak, I prefer to be called by my username but if one insists on using honorifics then it would be Miss or Ma'am. Regarding your concern, I think Bonadea is doing a great job maintaining neutrality on the article and all concerns should be raised on the talk page. Question about adding pictures to Wikipages

Hi,

We met during the SACNAS x 500 Women Scientists Wikipedia Edit-a-thon. I was working on Jami Valentine's page and reached out to her for a permission to use one of her photos since her profile does not have one. I do have the permission, but I have no clue how to add it appropriately.

I hope you're doing well.

KSegarra — Preceding unsigned comment added by KSegarra (talkcontribs) 14:56, 14 July 2020 (UTC)

Hey KSegarra, so great to hear from you again. So you'd upload the image onto Wikimedia Commons through [2] and when they ask you for the source of the image you add Template:OP. You then tell Dr. Valentine to email the permissions and link to the image you've uploaded. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 16:46, 14 July 2020 (UTC)

updating content on Recovery International Page

so impressed that someone is doing real-time monitoring! Kudos! So, I am the CEO of Recovery International, and it was called to my attention that the site was woefully out of date and incomplete. So, I came in and did some updates. then got a message that some of the changes were not properly cited, but I can't tell which ones. I will go back in and see, but if you can point me to specific instances, I'd appreciate it. Note that some of the updates are actually citations of the articles themselves, do I also need to add a reference footnote? Please advise.98.223.27.65 (talk) 17:38, 15 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi IP. Yes, people are unfortunately pretty unaware of what goes on "behind the scenes" of Wikipedia. We have thousands of editors patrolling Wikipedia to make sure all of our policies and guidleines are enforced. So, all of your content wasn't cited to reliable sources which is one of the biggest rules we have on Wikipedia. See, everything needs to be verifiable so we know it is accurate and neutrally written. This issues gets muddled when people with a conflict of interest, such as yourself, begin to edit Wikipedia. Us volunteer editors often resent that paid or conflict of interest editors write non-neutrally, displaying obvious bias toward themselves or their clients, and write promotionally. A neutral point of view is one of the five pillars of Wikipedia, and is non-negotiable. All of your edits (besides being unsourced) are being added to promote yourself. The encyclopedia is here for knowledge, it isn't here to be used as a personal website. If you insist on editing on Wikipedia, please use WP:Edit requests on the article's talk page. Hi. I hope your well?

Thank you for the comments. I am new to this and am still catching up... Sadly, the edits were NOT false, vandalism or whatever else you claimed and had you done a little due diligence you would have seen that my edits were in fact the truth. A little research goes a long way.

The links I provided supported the information / update which I believe is relevant to this category. I even provided a link to the UN Security Group in relation to the information added. Can you please assist wit this? I specialise in Security / Anti-Piracy and Somalia and so on and this edit is desperately needed.

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SecurityExpert1982 (talkcontribs) 22:32, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

Please reinstate my edits - I am Stephanie Y. Evans (the subject) - Details & Citations Below

Greetings, I made a few small changes and corrections to the Wikipedia page about me. Thank you for your diligence in ensuring edits are correct! I am the subject of the page and my edits can be easily cited.

My degree institutions were not correct, so I edited them. My BA is from CSULB, with MA, Graduate Certificate, & PhD from UMass. This can be verified by consulting and citing my CV online at http://www.professorevans.net/bio.html or my GSU faculty page https://wgss.gsu.edu/profile/stephanie-y-evans/.

I added a "D" middle initial to my husband's name--there are several Curtis Byrds. This can be verified by citing his website https://curtisdbyrd.com/.

I noted I moved out of home and was an emancipated youth at age 16. Documentation of this can be found on page 25 of "My Time in the Tower," a memoir photo essay. This is a relevant part of my bio because I work around issues of youth mentoring... See document http://nebula.wsimg.com/2cddeb3c4b7d2bb11a9c746a5dabc0bf?AccessKeyId=230E23EE48870411BCBD&disposition=0&alloworigin=1

Thanks again for reinstating my small corrections/changes. You are MUCH appreciated. Best, Stephanie Y. Evans — Preceding unsigned comment added by Drsyevans (talkcontribs) 00:28, 31 July 2020 (UTC)
