That is really great! You know I asked Cerejota to un-nominate the article for FAC, because I get stresed out with details, but he said that he is goingto work on it. Another thing, I want to thank you so much for your work with the citations and the links. When it comes to bringing out facts that have been omitted from the history books in regard to our history and the contributions which Puerto Ricans have made, I believe that we have an excellent group. Shenandoah History

[edit]

Town and city history pages detail information concerning history, unique facts, geographic data, famous residents and so on. These pages are not repositories for random news stories from the town. Many tragedies have taken place in the mining towns of Pennsylvania. I am sorry to say that just because some sad event took place in a town it does not make it relevent to the geographic or historic purpose of these pages. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.172.10.203 (talk) 21:13, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Esquisito

[edit]

Did you know that the history books used in Puerto Rico's educational system prior the Spainsh American War was the one written by Salvador Brau and that after Puerto Rico was ceded to the United States, the Americans commissioned Dr. Paul Gerard Miller, the appointed Commissioner of Education to re-write an Americanized version of our history? His "Historia de Puerto Rico" was then used in our island's school rooms instead of Braus. That is one of the reasons that I have dedicated myself to making sure that our history is presented in a truthful manner. Tony the Marine (talk) 06:05, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Obama

[edit]

I have an outline of a lengthy and legitimate article at User:THF/Obama with not a single "nutball conspiracy theory" in it. I'll draft it off-wiki this weekend. I encourage editors to participate in this project by sending me sources (or perhaps fully drafted paragraphs) rather than battling at DRV or on the Talk:Obama page about intermediate stages. If we present a fully-sourced, well-written neutral article, there shouldn't be a problem -- and if there is, it will be pretty damning of Wikipedia. THF (talk) 15:47, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

Apologies for the "spam"; I'm writing to you and other editors because you have edited the Club Mahindra Holidays article recently.

Concern has been expressed that the article is too promotional and is about a non-notable subject. I do not necessarily agree with this, however I am concerned that unless these issues are addressed then the article may be deleted. I am therefore asking for your help in improving the article, and wish to make the following suggestions:

  • The article should avoid being a promotional vehicle for Club Mahindra: the article should adhere to Wikipedia's policies of neutral point of view.
  • The article should avoid being an attack on Club Mahindra: while some criticism is to be expected the article should not be an attack page.
  • Positive and negative comments about Club Mahindra should be referenced by reliable sources such as major newspapers and business magazines.
  • Controversial claims - either for or against Club Mahindra - should be discussed on the article's talk page.

Once again, apologies for disturbing you with this matter but I hope I can look forward to working with you on improving this article!

Recently in my talk page I have been receiving very kind words which truly humble me. I thank everyone for those words, but I am only a small part of a wonderful group of Boricua Wikipedians who, regardless of their political or personal believes, have selfishly dedicated themselves to writing about the unbiased truth of the history and the amazing people of our wonderful and beautiful island. I thank God everyday that there are people like Joelr31, Caribbean H.Q., Pr4ever, Jmundo, Cerejota, Boricuaeddie, Mtmelendez and Demf just to mention a few, whose contributions are helping to create an awareness that despite the size of our island, we are a people that have a lot to be proud of. Hello, Jmundo. What do you think of...?

[edit]

List of U.S. communities with Hispanic majority populations? Noticing what seems like a blatantly wrong edit, and that the whole article is unsourced, I had all kinds of ideas: blanking it, redirecting it, or AfDing it on the spot!

I feel that one of two things need to happen: the article should be sourced, or it should be deleted. I'm prepared to source it, but only if it's clear that that class of articles has community-wide support.

I believe you're more familiar with AfD than I am. What do you advice I do? Should I AfD it? Or do you think that would be a waste of time and I should just go ahead and start sourcing it? SamEV (talk) 22:49, 4 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. In Hispanic and Latino Americans, I'll include a small list of the largest Hispanic majority places, per a Census Bureau source I found yesterday. (I don't blame you for thinking it was there already; we do cover a lot of ground in that article, I guess, and mention Los Angeles, Miami, El Paso, etc.)

And what do you think about the entire class of articles, as seen in Category:Lists of U.S. locations with large ethnic populations? I'm not sure what, if anything, should be done; so I'd like to know your opinion of the concept. Do you think those articles should or shouldn't exist? SamEV (talk) 18:47, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I added the list and checked it twice. Unlike the one in the list article, this one's sourced. SamEV (talk) 21:32, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Spanish assistance

[edit]

Hey Jmundo, I'm wondering if you can speak to a Spanish-speaking editor for me. User talk:Ruuta 25 is uploading copyvio images all over the place and doesn't seem to get the picture; I have a feeling he doesn't understand the deletion warnings. All the messages I have left him have just resulted in personal attacks at my talk page ([1][2]). Personally, I think this user just doesn't belong here, given that he can't communicate with anyone and isn't contributing anything to the project (all he does is write some autobiography in his userspace, and upload mounds of copyrighted images), but I don't want to take community action until a fluent Spanish speaker has gotten in touch with him. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 01:53, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ah...I was wondering why he was spending so much time editing here when es-wiki would obviously be more appropriate, but now it makes sense. Well, if he keeps up with the bad image uploads I will take him to ANI; I just didn't want to jump into anything like that before anyone had actually communicated with him. Thanks for your help, rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 03:01, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

(out) Per [3] and [4], Ruuta 25 is now refusing to even attempt to communicate in English (although I guess it doesn't make much difference, his English even when he tried to use it was pretty incomprehensible). I think I'm going to leave a note at ANI asking what to do about him, since he's not contributing anything of value to the project and he is damaging the project by uploading so many copyvio photos...before I do, though, do you think you'll be able to act as a go-between? I imagine that when I do open the ANI thread and leave him a message he will just ignore it anyway, but just in the off chance that he does show up there and start spouting off, we might need someone who can communicate with him in Spanish (and who can translate for us, in case he raises any compelling arguments about why he shouldn't be banned). rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 20:26, 2 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I started the ANI discussion; it's at WP:ANI#Ruuta 25 uploading copyvio images. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 21:06, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Vidal Santiago

I personally knew Vidal Santiago. In the 1970s he was a member of the church Discipulos de Cristo de Bayamon, which I also belonged to. Vidal was Esmeralda Santiago's uncle. He was a very nice guy. His head was somewhat disfigured (It looked as if it were swollen) because of the head wound. He would never have been LMM's barber, never. You see, he disliked LMM, whom like so many other nationalists considered a traitor to the independence cause and who did so much damage to the nationalist movement. Now, get this and it is a hard pill to swallow, but he embraced the PNP (and he wasn't alone) not so much because he believed in statehood, but because it was his way at getting back at LMM and the PPD. Hey mi hermano, I can never understand when someone who has never contributed to any of the Puerto Rican related stuff comes out of the blue and critize's us. You should take a look at the "Some problems with this lists format" in the "Talk:List of Puerto Ricans".

On another subject, I was thinking about making an addition to the begining of the "Flag of Puerto Rico" article becasue I believe that it is the truth and I want you to look at it and give me your opinion.

"The first flag of Puerto Rico was the "Revolutionary Flag of Lares". The flag, knitted by Mariana Bracetti, was divided in the middle by a white Latin cross, the two lower corners were red and the two upper corners were blue with a yellow star placed in the upper left blue corner. On the September 23, 1868, Puerto Ricans revolted against Spanish, seeking their independence, in what is known as "El Grito de Lares". The "Republic of Puerto Rico" was declared and Francisco Ramírez Medina was sworn in as Puerto Rico's first president. The flag which represented the republic was placed on the High Altar of the Parroquial Church of the town of Lares.

Currently ...."

You see the fact is that the Lares flag could be historically considered the first Puerto Rican flag. The Puerto Rican Committee in New York even used it (Juan de M. Terreforte was a veteran of El Grito de Lares) before the current design was presented and adopted by them. Tony the Marine (talk) 07:43, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

We who believe in the truth need you here. By the way, my lastest article is Victor Manuel Blanco. Tony the Marine (talk) 21:11, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Talking about Muñoz, he was also the President of the Puerto Rican Senate, under the governorship of Jesús T. Piñero, which approved and passed the infamous "Ley de la Mordaza" (Gag Law) or Law 53 that made it illegal to display the Puerto Rican Flag, sing a patriotic song, talk of independence and to fight for the liberation of the island. Tony the Marine (talk) 03:03, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You are right, Puerto Rico looks like a third world nation, this goes to show you how badly the United States has taken care of it's "territory". You are not alone when you say that many of us Puerto Ricans born in the U.S. or living in the U.S. are living the "American" dream, but refuse to give up our Puerto Rican identity. There is nothing about that to be ashamed about. We may be living the "American" dream, but we Puerto Ricans in the United States known what it is like to be discriminated against only because you are Puerto Rican, Hispanic or Latino. There are many, stateside Puerto Ricans who believe that our culture, traditions, language and our country in general to stop to exist as a nation by becoming a third rated state.

The current situation that Puerto Rico is in comes about from 1898 when Puerto Rico became a US territory and the Americans took control of our economy and businesses and destroyed them. Instead of preparing Puerto Rico for it's independence, they made sure that Puerto Rico would become solely dependent on them. The only reason that Puerto Ricans want to become a state is because they are told that they will lose their welfare checks, cupones, social security checks, pensions. It isn't because they love the U.S., hell they don't even know the words to the national anthem, it is about greed, about the love of the money. Llorens Torres once said: No vendas tu terruño al extraño, el que vende su terruño vende a su madre con ella. Tony the Marine (talk) 20:18, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reelection

[edit]

Fortuño has always been a results-oriented person. In the past legislative session, after all the dust settled (and, my, was there a lot of dust!) over 95% of his legislative agenda was accomplished. Most importantly, the new budget disposes of 85% of the $3.2 billion structural deficit.

On the other hand, when he was considering a run for the governorship, people doubted he had the guts to confront Rosselló. He did. When he threw his hat in the ring, it was said he would be creamed. He beat Rosselló against all odds. In the general election campaign it was said that Acevedo Vilá would squeak by because Fortuño would not capture the Rossellista vote. Without Rosselló's endorsement, he won in a quarter-million-vote landslide.

My bet? He'll run, and moderation will once again prevail.

Will he win? He made the difficult decisions early, geared to an economic turnaround by late 2010, and economic growth by 2011---once again, results-oriented. He'll be judged by that in 2012. Pr4ever (talk) 12:39, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Opinion request

[edit]

When I first wrote the Flag of Puerto Rico article years ago, it was titled "The flags of Puerto Rico" and was intended to be just that, an article about the flags of Puerto Rico. However, with time someone (who made a mess with the edit history) came along and changed the title to the current one.

I am thinking of two options per consensus.

1. Leaving the current title, "spliting" the article, keeping only the story of the "Flag" and it's evolution and creating separate articles about the "municipal" and "political" flags and have them interwiklinked in the "See also" sections.

or ....

2. Changing the title back to "Flags of Puerto Rico", its original title and keeping the article as it is, which would be less troublesome.

or ....

3. Just leave it as it is.

Your thoughts will be highly appreciated. Tony the Marine (talk) 01:03, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your work on that article and your comments on the AfD. I don't necessarily like chopping the genre of metal into metallic atoms, but that's the way WP goes, and I think we should do right by the genre. I've added the subject to the Heavy Metal template, so we better make it work! Thanks again, Drmies (talk) 15:00, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fantastic pictures

[edit]

You have got to check out the fantastic pictures of old-Puerto Rico here: [5]. The good thing is that the majority of them are pre-1923, when there were no copyright laws and can be used by anyone in our project. Tony the Marine (talk) 20:08, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dalia Hernández

[edit]

Hey Jmundo, I recently left a PROD on the article about the actress Dalia Hernández, because she doesn't seem to meet the notability guidelines. Most of the external links are in Spanish, so if you have time you might be able to elaborate more on her notability. Thanks, rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 19:32, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re:que pantalones

[edit]

When the United States invaded Puerto Rico, there were Puerto Ricans who welcomed the invaders as there new "Amos" and there were Puerto Ricans who really wanted their freedom. The complaints by those people who are making a profit out of the sacrifices of our soldiers are out of place and I'll let time take it's course. Thank you por siempre estar on the side righteousness. 20:20, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

  • I want to share with you the following, one time those same people complained that the Article which I wrote here about the 65th was copied from their documentary. I told them "What the hell are you talking about? I wrote my article about two years before you people even dreamed of making a documentary! So, who copied from who?" I didn't hear from them again until now. Just to show the hypocrisy of some people: Did you know that when our men of the 65th returned to Puerto Rico in disgrace because many were unjustly accused in the largest mass court-martial of the Korean War, our own government, the Popular government of LMM knew about, but refused to do anything to help our own men because they were afraid that it would politically jeopardize the ELA status that they were seeking? That they didn't move a finger until the incidents were made known by a local newspaper alerted by several letters written by the imprisoned soldiers to their families? I tell you, there are so many people that call themselves "Boricuas" but, de "Boriuca" no tienen nada! I, myself am not a politician, I love my people unconditionally and that is why I write things the way that they are and not like what some other people would them to be. Pablo Nureda

[edit]

I am not a politician but, I think that Muñoz Marín was a very complex individual to understand, he was against statehood and at the same time became the greatest enemy of the independence movement. I believe that he wanted to lead Puerto Rico "poco a poco" to a type of autonomy similar to that which the island had and in which his father Muñoz Rivera had played an influential role shortly before the American invassion. I think that he did not want to offend the United States, whom he knew were the ones who held complete jurisdiction over the island, in order to accomplish his objectives. I believe that Muñoz Marín became a traitor to the independence movement and did everything in his power to crush the movement because he feared that it would be a set back to his plans. Yet, he failed to accomplish his dreams because Puerto Rico did not and does not have the same autonomy with the same liberties and powers that Spain had granted the island in 1898. As a matter of fact, the United States was under pressure from the United Nations at the time (1950s) to liberate it's colony and it was very convenient to have a Puerto Rican governor elected by the people and a political party to come up with the new "Estado Libre Associado" which is nothing more then a change of name for what still remains a territory (colony). Nothing changed in regard to the status. Now in all fairness, we cannot deny that Muñoz Marín had a tough job and that the programs which he proposed helped our economy. He was a puppet "lambe ojo", of the United States and the greatest enemy that the independence movement ever had. Before we judge the man we must weigh in one scale his positive contributions to the island and it's economy and in the other scale his dark side, the relentless crushing of the patriotic independence movement. Hero to some, villian to others. Tony the Marine (talk) 02:13, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My revision to Bernard of Niemodlin --not nonconstructive, definitely not vandalism

[edit]

You seem to want to revert the edit I made to the page on Bernard of Niemodlin. Your revert sent me a message that it appeared to be "nonconstructive." Later, I got a message suggesting that it was vandalism. I only made a change in order to change the sort order in some categories. I've been doing a lot of it in order to establish consistency. Specifically, the category is House of Piast. Among the entries there that have the form "(given name) of (place name)," some are alphabetized under the place name, as if they were the same as family names. But the majority of them are alphabetized under the given name. So I've been going through putting them all the same way. I explained it on the discussion page for the category. This is the only one I've had a problem with. I've been putting an explanation of my edit, as Wikipedia advises. And I've been signing it. With my real name. 140.147.236.194 (talk) 21:28, 15 October 2009 (UTC)Stephen Kosciesza[reply]

La ola del "cambio"

[edit]

- Caribbean~H.Q. 02:22, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Comentario

[edit]

A friend of mine told me to look at this: this.

Entonces le dije: My friend Bob, I read the article, as a matter of fact someone else had sent me the same one. I for one believe what is being said. Anyone who has read the story of that island will read a story of horror and abuse by the United States on that poor island and it's people. People in the U.S. tend to look and criticize the abuses and violations of human rights of other countries, but when it comes to looking at their own back yard they tend to look the other way because they are the "almighty" ones who could do no wrong. They have to clean their own house before they can tell others to clean theirs.

1. Puerto Ricans have been the subject of human experimentation's for sometime now. In the late 1930s, Dr. Cornelius Rhodes injected Puerto Rican patients with cancer cells, Rhodes wrote:

"the Porto Ricans (sic) are beyond doubt the dirtiest, laziest, most degenerate and thievish race of men ever inhabiting this sphere. It makes you sick to inhabit the same island with them..What the island needs is not public health work, but a tidal wave or something to totally exterminate the population..I have done my best to further the process of extermination by killing off eight and transplanting cancer into several more..The matter of consideration for the patients' welfare plays no role here - in fact, all physicians take delight in the abuse and torture.."

2. Beginning in the years following WW I, a program was initiated by the United States government, the medical community and the local government of Puerto Rico, to name a few, which resulted in the unprecedented sterilization of 1/3 of the female population by 1965, and the continued use of sterilization on a broad scale by Puerto Rican women as a form of birth control. The real reasons behind the sterilization campaigns were not justified at all. One of the reasons was that Puerto Rico was a U.S. colony, so there was still the idea of Manifest Destiny. The United States felt that they could do whatever they wanted to the Puerto Ricans because they were inferior.

3. What about Agent Orange? First introduced in 1946 in the agricultural farms of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. Agent Orange tested by the US military in El Yunque National Rain Forrest and Vieques before being used in Vietnam. The list goes on and on. Tony the Marine (talk) 21:29, 17 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

--Jmundo (talk) 22:50, 19 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
My Spanish is a bit rusty, but I get the sense that you're not happy I showed Tony that link? I'd like to think that's not the case, and I'll admit that it has been many years since I had to use my language skills. But you're right, the average American is ignorant of the shameful way that Puerto Ricans have been treated. I sure as hell learned nothing about it in school, despite the fact that Amsterdam has a large Puerto Rican population. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 16:40, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reliable Sourcing Comment

[edit]

Hi Jmundo,

Some quick comments regarding your edit on the Apelbaum article with respect to the guideline “web forums are not wp:reliable,” I agree in general, but in this case, I think we have an exception. My reasoning:

  • 1. The information posted on the forum is detailed technical data and not biographical or personal in nature. No opinion is expressed. What the posting states is that the vulnerability (with its details) has been discovered by Apelbaum.
  • 2. The postings were done on a public Microsoft forum for the purpose of reporting the discovered vulnerabilities to MS so they can take a corrective action.
  • 3. In the case of the reported SQL Server Blowfish encryption vulnerability, a fix was later issued as a result of the posting.
  • 4. Microsoft has acknowledged the vulnerability in the MDE through MSDN stating: “Caution…you can't give a malicious person the rights to modify data without them also having the ability to easily break through security and modify the design. To provide this functionality, you should use a server-based database product such as Microsoft SQL Server.”

--JAF 18:34, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the explanation, you should make your case in the article talk page, I believe that a reliable source should be available for that type of claim. Good luck with your article. --Jmundo (talk) 19:03, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your Post On My Talk Page

[edit]

In regards to your post about the Luis Fortundo page. He commented on (insulted) me first, and I did likewise. I realize that not everyone is equal on this site, but vandalizing people's articles, then blaming a "lack of consensus" because he is so narrow minded that he thinks any thing he disagrees with will never had a consensus and thus must be removed, is also completely unacceptable. Or is simply imposing one's opinion acceptable so long as he phrases his reasons correctly? The information he posted was factually inaccurate, he started by attacking me and then changing it afterward, and he vandalized my contributions with no discussion or consensus from anyone what so ever. Is there one standard for everyone, or is there a double standard for those who are perceived to be "wiki cool" and another for the rest of us? Please enlighten me. Themoodyblue (talk) 14:58, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I would still like a response on this. Thanks. Themoodyblue (talk) 21:50, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have re-read my posts in the Fortuño talk page. Although I don't think anything I wrote can be construed as an attack on a fellow contributor, if that is what he interpreted, my apologies. Pr4ever (talk) 00:46, 1 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
