Bilogo
[edit]Another editor has added the "{{prod}}
" template to the article Bilogo, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}}
template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. BJBot (talk) 06:45, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with Image:Barangay Bilogo, Batangas City.JPG
[edit]Thank you for uploading Image:Barangay Bilogo, Batangas City.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Asher196 (talk) 04:48, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with Image:The Maximal Dinobot.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:The Maximal Dinobot.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 14:03, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Barangay Bilogo, Batangas City.JPG
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Barangay Bilogo, Batangas City.JPG. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Veggy (talk) 00:32, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Hello. Please do not upload copyrighted images to Wikipedia and label them as your own. If you continue to do this, you will be blocked from editing. Thankyou, Black Kite 10:03, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
- Hello again. The thing to remember is - if you're uploading an image that you've copied off the net, you need to assume that it's copyrighted. So when you upload it, you need to choose the right option from the "What kind of image is it?" part of this page. Just don't upload it as your own work, and you'll be OK. Orphaned non-free media (Image:The Maximal Dinobot.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:The Maximal Dinobot.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:19, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Stop a Page from being Redirected
[edit]{{helpme}}
Since Batangas State University is currently a redirected page from Batangas State University ARASOF Nasugbu Campus, probably, I will name this upcoming article as Batangas State University Main Campus. Hey, is there a possible way to cancel the page from being redirected? Please leave a useful comment if you've read this section.
Actually I'm just planning to put this info at Wikipedia but because of this, I'm quite in trouble now. Kampfgruppe (talk) 13:24, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey guys, what particular label (e.g. my own work, a work from Flickr, a promotional photo etc) and license (e.g. GNU, GFDL, Public Domain etc.) must be put to an uploaded image which is from a cell phone or camera shots done by myself. Kampfgruppe (talk) 13:21, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
- {{pd-self}} if you wish to give up all of the rights, {{cc-by-2.0}} if you want attribution, {{cc-by-sa-2.0}} if you want the image to only be used with that license and attribution, {{GFDL}} is a little more complicated (visit the link :D). Just asking, friends. Why my own article, San Jose Sico cannot be found on such internet search engines like Yahoo!, MSN and Google although the first creation of that article dates back I think last September, 2008? Also, what's the purpose of the checkbox: Watch this page? Does it have any connection to my first problem? Kindly explain it to me. Thanks!
- For me your article shows up first in google; not sure why it doesn't for you. Watch this page just puts it on your watchlist, which tracks changes. Tombomp (talk/contribs) 12:57, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

How can we, Wikipedians search for... absolutely new users here in Wikipedia?

Welcoming
[edit]Hi Kampfgruppe. There's little point in welcoming users who have not made a single edit yet. It can actually be detrimental, as it is a pointless use of server resources and gets in the way of vandalfighters. About nine out of ten new accounts never make an edit anyway. Thanks. ➨ ❝ЯEDVERS❞ a sweet and tender hooligan 11:23, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
- You have been putting welcome messages on the talk pages of editors who have just created accounts.
- This is pointless - it just wastes Wikipedia bandwidth.
- People hunting for vandals use the log you are using. Your welcomes make it difficult to see if vandals have been warned.
- Of every 10 accounts created, 9 of them are never used. ➨ ❝ЯEDVERS❞ a sweet and tender hooligan 11:29, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

What's the Difference between .PNG images to .GIF images?
[edit]{{helpme}}
I uploaded an image with an extension name of .GIF (Image:Batangas City's Official Flag.gif) that links to Batangas City. Then, a certain bot here in Wikipedia cloned that image and changed the extension name to .PNG (Image:Batangas City's Official Flag.png). Now, Image:Batangas City's Official Flag.gif became an orphaned and needed to be provided a fair use rationale because it lost it links to Batangas City after being replaced by Image:Batangas City's Official Flag.png. So what's the reason for this? Are .PNG images referring to flags, logos and maps are suitable here in Wikipedia than those of the .GIF images? I need your help fellows.
- Hi, Kampfgruppe, the reason why a bot change the image format because PNG is better than GIF, it reduce the size and that is preferred in WP:IUP#FORMAT. If the bot did not help you to speedy delete old image, you can do it by yourself. Thats all. --Aleenf1 12:30, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
- It is simple, just place
{{db-i1|OLDIMAGENAME}}
and save it (dont add prefix "image" in front), admin will come to delete it. --Aleenf1 12:41, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Misspelling
[edit]{{helpme}}
Hello, Kampfgruppe, I have received your feedback on my entry and would like some clarification so I may make the entry stronger. First, I have just realized I accidentally entered my entry for Wes Lucus, and his name should be spelled Wes Lucas, with an a in his last name. How should I go about removing the entry from the misspelled entry and moving it to the correct place? Also, I didn't know there could be too many external links in an entry. How should I determine the number of links based on length?
- Done I have moved the article, the misspelled version will now redirect to the correct spelling. As for external links, WP:EL should be able to answer your questions. In the future, place the helpme on your talkpage, of if you have a specific question for an editor, then post on their talkpage without a helpme. --Terrillja talk 16:27, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
Maps
[edit]{{helpme}}
Hi fellows, what is the appropriate extension name for images referring to maps?
- Hi there. The file extension will be whatever image format it was created in, such as jpg, png or svg. Is that what you mean? Maybe you can clarify so I can give you a better answer. Best regards. --Chasingsol(talk) 11:42, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
- The image type is determined by the program that creates it. With image editing programs, you often have a choice of format to save it in, whether that's a .jpg, a .png or something else. You would need to leave the file extension the same, otherwise it will not be readable when you upload it to Wikipedia. Wikipedia can accept several different file formats for images, and it will determine how to handle it based upon the file extension at the end, so you should be sure that it's correct. The best format for a map is .svg, but that's not really an image file, it is a description of how to draw it with lines and curves. Find a .svg that's been uploaded on Wikipedia, download it and open it with Notepad and you will see what I mean. The best quality image format is .png, then .jpg and lastly .gif. Best regards. --Chasingsol(talk) 05:00, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
Images from US Department of Defense
[edit]US Dept. of Defense instructed that all of their images are in public domain so if you want to reuse it, you will just credit the photographer or simply the Dept. of Defense. See http://www.defenselink.mil/multimedia/about.html. In case of this website, [1] where all of the images therein are from the US Dept. of Defense, can I upload them legally here in Wikipedia (or Wikimedia Commons)? Thanks. Kampfgruppe (talk) 06:30, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
- If it's US Gov, it's public domain; in which case, you don't need to credit anyone. Credit is only required for the 'creative commons attribution' type licencing; this will be PD. You should, for reference, say where it came from. Because it's free, you should upload it to commons, http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Upload
Follow the instructions there. If you need more help, use another helpme or talk to us live. Chzz ► 06:38, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

2 MB - 4 MB Photos for Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons

- Should be fine. See, e.g., File:Acanthodoris_lutea_laying_eggs_1.jpg. Tim Song (talk) 19:01, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
- Anything up to 100Mb is fine; upload the highest quality version that you have - ie the originals. Chzz ► 19:09, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
- You're welcome. Please note, any 'free' images (ie pictures that anyone can use, for any purpose), belong on commons, so they can be used by all the Sister projects, ie other language Wikipedias, and Wiktionary, Wikiquote, etc etc. The only exceptions are the non-free images that qualify for 'fair use', such as company logos and things. Cheers, Chzz ► 10:56, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

Non-free Image removal
[edit]{{helpme}}
I'm just curious guys. I've uploaded a better replacement (Image:Batangas State University's Official Seal.jpg) for Image:BSU logo.jpg. I just want to remove the old version... so uh is that reasonable? Kampfgruppe (talk) 09:09, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
- I'd say it's reasonable. The old image was smaller but with more corruption and parts were not readable, so it can't serve the same purpose than your slightly larger image. Just replace all usage of the old image, make sure the new image has the appropriate fair-use rationale(s) for all articles it is used in and then tag the old image with {{subst:orfud}}. Photography Rental
[edit]Good day!
Mr.Kampfgruppe,
I am Ryan, an account manager from Think Ideas Manila.
One of our Art Directors saw your photo Basilica of the Immaculate Conception via Wikipedia and we would like to use it for our project.
In line with this, we would like to know if there will be any rental fee for the aforementioned photo.
Looking forward to receiving your reply as soon as possible.
If you have concerns, kindly contact me immediately at 0927-6222-912 or at ryan@thinkideasmanila.com.
Thank you!
- Good day too. You mean this image: File:Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Parish.JPG? Haven't you read the photo's licensing on its page?
- There isn't any rental fee for the photo because it is under a free license (i.e. Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported). This means that you are free to share (i.e. to copy, distribute and transmit the photo) and to remix (i.e. to adapt the photo) it under the following conditions:
- Attribution – You must attribute the photo in the manner specified by the author or licensor, i.e. I, Kampfgruppe, (but not in any way that suggests that they endorse you or your use of the photo), and
- Share Alike – If you alter, transform, or build upon this photo, you may distribute the resulting photo only under the same or similar license, (i.e. Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported).
- Just follow the statements above and be sure to give credit/recognition to me wherever or whenever you use/publish the photo. Kampfgruppe (talk) 13:01, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
Proposed blackout in protest of RA 10175
[edit]Dear Kampfgruppe,
Greetings!
As a Filipino Wikipedian, I hope you are aware of the passage of Republic Act No. 10175, also known as the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, which was signed into law by President Benigno Aquino III on September 12, 2012. Currently, there is a discussion on the Tambayan, the noticeboard for Philippines-related topics, about a proposed blackout of the English Wikipedia in the Philippines in order to protest the passage of RA 10175, similar to the blackout against SOPA and PIPA held earlier this year. I feel that your input on the subject will definitely help in the discussion.
Please feel free to participate in the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Tambayan Philippines#The Cybercrime Prevention Act, and I hope your input will help the Filipino Wikipedia community determine which is the best course of action against this law. Similarly, we hope to get as much input from as many Wikipedians as possible.
Thank you and maraming salamat po!
Kind regards,
Sky Harbor (talk) 13:03, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
- I apologize; I've been offline for too long. I am in favor, but since the Supreme Court has issued a temporary restraining order for 120 days, we better wait for the next events before we could have the proposed blackout.

Hello guys! I made a mistake. I have uploaded a non free image of a city's official flag four years ago. The thing is that it isn't really the flag of that city; it's just the flag of the city's city council, not the flag of the city itself. For the sake of accuracy or truthfulness (we know that Wikipedia must not have a content that isn't accurate), I'm planning to remove the image in the article's infobox because I think that would not be relevant to article anymore [because every council of the city's local government has their own flag/seal]. Well of course, that action will make the image orphan. So what's the best thing to do? Just let the image be orphaned until an administrator delete it? Or something that would be better than my option. Sorry, I'm just curious... I'd be personally grateful if you guys could help me.
Kampfgruppe (talk) 13:53, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
- Once you have removed it from the article, it will probably get tagged by a bot fairly soon, but you can put {{subst:orfud}} on the file which will put it straight in the speedy deletion list. {{db-author}} would work, too, if you are the only ajuthor of the file. Proper citation

Fellow Wikipedians, how do we cite or give credit to an author whose writing (in my case, an essay) is included in a book—an anthology of essays. Of course we should cite the author [or more properly, the editor] of that book who collected the essays but I also want to give [more] credit to the author of that particular essay because it is his work that I would be using. I've been in Citing sources and Citation templates(for books) guidelines but I still can't figure it out on how to.
Below is the title of the book and its editor/author that I am talking to:
Gawad Surian sa Sanaysay, Gantimpalang Collantes 1989-1991. by Batnag, Aurora E.
And here is the title of the essay and its author:
Kwentong Hindi Matapus-tapos, Bayaning Hindi Namamatay: Isang Kontemporanyong Pagbasa sa mga Etnoepiko ng Aking Bayan by Barrios, Joi.
Maybe you would advised me to search for other printed materials in which the essay is included (journals would be the best choice) to ease the situation but I couldn't find any.
So, what could be the most proper citation?
Thanks. Kampfgruppe (talk) 17:19, 6 July 2014 (UTC)

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite
[edit]Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:57, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

2019 US Banknote Contest
[edit]US Banknote Contest | ||
---|---|---|
November-December 2019 | ||
There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons. In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate. If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here |
