Speedy deletion declined: Keen.com

Hello KartikeyaS343, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Keen.com, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: If an experienced user accepted the draft, there is a presumption that they believed the topic to be notable enough for inclusion and deletion thus controversial. Speedy deletion can only used for clearly uncontroversial deletion requests however. If you are interested in learning more about how speedy deletion works, I have compiled a list of helpful pages at User:SoWhy/SDA. You can of course also contact me if you have questions. Thank you. Regarding Draft: Shripad Vaidya

Sorry to say that you have rejected the submission without giving any genuine reason and not by following the policy made for guiding new editors. I am a new editor and I have regularly taken the advice from other experienced editors and they have also contributed to some extent for this article. As I am a new editor, you should have given me a chance for improving the article rather than stopping its editing process. I have taken a lot of hard work for this article and working on it for many months. It is requested to provide opportunities instead of discouraging the hard work of the new editors. deletion of page on Passu Tshering

I see you have deleted this page, but not given any reason beyond the template for not being notable - "they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject". To receive a national medal from the king of Bhutan is significant. Perhaps not to you, but in the context of the country, it doesn't get much bigger. (see wikipedia entry for explanation, which it links to). Three references to Kuensel are provided. That is the national newspaper, an independent source, and one is a profile on Bhutan Toilet Organisation, which was started by this man. Again, may I suggest that the importance of the Bhutan Toilet Organisation may not appear significant to someone in the west, but this organisation is based on the World Toilet Organisation. That it has made such significant changes to the lives of Bhutanese is evident by the King's medal and the write-up in the national newspaper. The article is short, but intended to start a page about this very important Bhutanese man so that others can later add to it, in keeping with Wikipedia practice. I would ask that you reconsider this article, based on the significance of this man to Bhutan - the country's biggest blogger, a recipient of the king's medal, the founder of an important civil organisation, and the focus of independent media such as Kuensel. 17todotest (talk) 00:26, 20 February 2020 (UTC)

@17todotest: Neither me nor Sulfurboy has deleted your page. It is not approved for publishing yet. Please go through the policies and improve the article accordingly before submitting it again for a review. --KartikeyaS343 (talk) 06:59, 21 February 2020 (UTC)
@KartikeyaS343: With all due respect, I did. I added more references. I'm not sure why they are not accepted as reliable. They are two independent newspapers and two academic texts, published by reputable academic publishers. The man was awarded a medal by the king and had profiles written by two respected Bhutanese newspapers. Please can you explain why they are not deemed suitable. It feels like an arbitrary decision, so I would really like to understand the rationale so that I can learn 17todotest (talk) 08:50, 21 February 2020 (UTC)

David Robinson (artist)

Hello KartikeyaS343, Thanks so much for reviewing my submission. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:David_Robinson_(artist)

Would you be willing to give me some more specific feedback?

Your comment implied that my citations were sourced from the subject but they were all independent. I also thought that the article read as neutral (except perhaps the Reviews and Commentary, which were all from independent sources - plus I've seen laudatory reviews on other artist pages such as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Kelly_(artist)) I'm happy to delete the reviews if that will allow publication.

It would really help me edit the piece if you could point out specific issues in the text.

Thanks so much! SageMacG (talk) 20:54, 5 March 2020 (UTC)

Draft:Ine Back Iversen

Hi KartikeyaS343. Thank you for reviewing my article Draft:Ine Back Iversen, I'm trying really hard to fix this so i was wondering, since the reason you are giving for declining it is unreliable sources, can you please point out which ones are unreliable so i can remove them or at least fix the problem? I have used many sources in this article and have followed the guidelines so i am having a hard time understanding which one you mean. I really appreciate your time and hope you can help me so that i can resolve this issue.

(Terminalbud (talk) 02:13, 7 March 2020 (UTC))

Hi there! I have not checked in details but sources like Youtube or IMDb are not considered as reliable sources. If you have questions about any source then you can ask at the reliable source noticeboard. Best, --KartikeyaS (talk) 16:35, 8 March 2020 (UTC)

Nick McKenzie

What is going on here? Adding an "undisclosed paid editing" tag atop a BLP without evidence is a massive BLP violation. There's nothing in your edit history around that time that suggests you know anything we don't and you don't name who you think the "undisclosed paid editor" is. The Drover's Wife (talk) 19:46, 8 March 2020 (UTC)

The Drover's Wife have you checked this? Please take a look at the SPI. --KartikeyaS (talk) 19:48, 8 March 2020 (UTC)
You just linked to a longstanding Australian editor adding a category to the article. What are you talking about? The Drover's Wife (talk) 19:50, 8 March 2020 (UTC)
Sorry, I did not get you! The article was created by this sockpuupet, see this.--KartikeyaS (talk) 19:53, 8 March 2020 (UTC)
The Drover's Wife Please see this[1]. I have added COI tag but if you still think I made a mistake then you are welcome to revert my edit. Thank you. --KartikeyaS (talk) 20:00, 8 March 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for the explanation. The original article was an unsourced pile of junk that has been extensively reworked, sourced and expanded by other editors in the nearly six years since it was created. It might not have hurt to review the diff you just cited to me above before you did that tagging (which would have pointed the rewrite out to you); I'm pretty unimpressed that you then tried to COI tag it after you'd linked me that diff.

Trying to tag the article on one of Australia's most respected investigative journalists with multiple paid editing/COI tags like a scarlet letter for the rest of time after being completely rewritten because a suspect account created a completely different version of the article six years ago is verging perilously close (at best) to a BLP violation in my book. The Drover's Wife (talk) 20:06, 8 March 2020 (UTC)

I have nothing personal with "Nick McKenzie" but the fact still remains that the article was created by a UPE sock and it has significant contributions from other socks as well[2]. I tagged it with COI because the article's talk page itself has been tagged with COI. Anyway, you have already reverted those edits and I have nothing more to say on this. KartikeyaS (talk) 20:19, 8 March 2020 (UTC)

Speedy deletion tagging - G5

Hello, KartikeyaS343,

Please be more careful with your speedy deletion tagging. We only delete pages that have been created by a previously blocked editor, that is a sockpuppet, someone who is trying to avoid their block and pages that have no substantial edits by others. The blocked editor was the only contributor. Wikipedia does not go back into the contributions and delete pages created by an editor who is subsequently blocked. And there has to be a clear connection between a page creator and a previously blocked account, either through a sockpuppet investigation or an indication in their block log, not on suspicion alone.

Please read over Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#G5. Creations by banned or blocked users for more information. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 19:59, 8 March 2020 (UTC)

Liz Thank you for the information. I appreciate it. --KartikeyaS (talk) 20:01, 8 March 2020 (UTC)

Why you are tagged the article for speedy deletion multiple times? Please read WP:CSD. Slowthin (talk) 06:30, 6 March 2020 (UTC)

My dear friend KartikeyaS343, i think you didn't get my question. My question is "Why are you applying same Deletion tag again and again. If you think the article must not be there on Wikipedia you must tagged this article using "Propose Deletion' or 'Deletion Discussion'. And for your information i am not a paid user. David Robinson (artist)

Hello KartikeyaS343,

Would you mind giving me some more specific feedback about how my draft https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:David_Robinson_(artist) needs to be edited?

I've tried to understand how your critique applies but I'm having trouble. More specific examples would be appreciated greatly.

I've double checked my citations and they all look independent and reliable to me. I'm also having trouble understanding the neutrality critique when I see the same kind of content on published pages.

I've also added some notes on the talk page for the draft to address the Notability question raised by user Theroadislong.

Thank you in advance for any additional help you can offer! SageMacG (talk) 20:31, 10 March 2020 (UTC)

Thank you for asking. Please make sure all the information you wrote in the article can be verified from independent reliable sources. --KartikeyaS (talk) 20:28, 12 March 2020 (UTC)

Thank you KartikeyaS343, I appreciate you taking the time :) I believe I have included appropriate sources for everything. Are there any specific instances that don't meet the criteria? Thank you again! SageMacG (talk) 21:24, 12 March 2020 (UTC)

I would request you to edit the article to remove all promotional words/tone. See WP:NPOV for more details. Best, KartikeyaS (talk) 18:59, 13 March 2020 (UTC)

Hi KartikeyaS343, sorry to be so slow, but I've looked at WP:NPOV and I still don't know what you mean. A lot of what I see in NPOV is that it's okay to transparently cite biased opinions as long as you're being balanced in articulating the whole range of opinions about the subject, good and bad. I have not found any published criticism of the artist or his work, so these reviews represent the published sentiment about this artist. I also tried to stay neutral everywhere other than the reviews. When I look at other articles mine seems in line with published pieces. For example, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vikky_Alexander uses language in multiple subsections that is more promotional than all my sections except my "Reviews and Commentary", and a lot of theirs is uncited. And other pages such as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Kelly_(artist) quote positive reviews the same way that I have - plus his are almost all from exhibition catalogues which are a somewhat COI source compared to magazine and journal articles which I used for 2 out of 3 of mine. So I haven't been able to identify what parts of my article are the issue. Thanks for any further explanation that can help me see what I'm missing. SageMacG (talk) 19:45, 13 March 2020 (UTC)

A bit of discussion

Hi there. I received notification that you've made some changes to some of the pages I recently created. I welcome them and I'm working on improving my understand of how things work here on Wikipedia. I'd like to make discussion here individually on each page.

Faisal Al Ahmari: I've made my comment on deletion page. May be the source to Khalejia have confused you about the verification of the sources. I didn't try to manipulate it. It is subsidiary of Rotana Group.

Gavin Brazg and Caroline Arewa: While creating a new page, I usually go around the category page related to the subject and edit multiple pages to develop sense how other pages are written in specific category. These two pages match the same looks. I've added sources that are notable on Wikipedia. Any advice is welcoming.

Thank you for your time. Lunar Clock (talk) 22:07, 12 March 2020 (UTC)

Hi, regarding Faisal Al Ahmari, the person doesn't pass the GNG criteria. Not just a single source but several other references you used there don't even mention this person at all. The same goes for both Gavin Brazg and Caroline Arewa. The references either do not mention them or only passing mention. Not enough to even pass the GNG criteria. Best, KartikeyaS (talk) 19:03, 13 March 2020 (UTC)
Thank you. I guess I need to work on my understanding. It's appreciated. Lunar Clock (talk) 20:32, 13 March 2020 (UTC)

Draft:BookBub review

Hi there, My draft for BookBub (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:BookBub) was declined because it didn't have significant coverage from independent sources. However, all of my source articles have BookBub as the main topic and most of them are reliable (the guardian, wallstreet journal, boston.com, business insider). Can you give me some ideas on what I can do to show notability? I could link to this story (which I'm not sure is considered independent enough) about how it impacts independent authors when they are rejected by publishers. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/it-isnt-amazon-publishers_b_8307708 I could also add info from this article about how they have 15 million subscribers, 120 employees, and launched an audiobook version. https://www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/industry-news/publisher-news/article/81874-bookbub-and-an-age-old-question-what-to-read-next.html

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to review articles and I hope you can give me some tips to improve this.

New page reviewer granted

Hi KartikeyaS343. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Please check back at WP:PERM in case your user right is time limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page. In addition, please remember:

  • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. signed, Rosguill talk 21:27, 18 March 2020 (UTC)

I have removed the bad refs. I have also tagged the article for lacking a lead section and needing inline citations. Please take time when you review new articles and check things carefully, thanks. Schazjmd (talk) 20:40, 21 March 2020 (UTC)

Schazjmd my apologies. Thank you for bringing this to my notice. I have just unreviewed the article. --KartikeyaS (talk) 20:42, 21 March 2020 (UTC)

There seems to be a disagreement on whether the Khatabook article is ready for mainspace. You have suggested this might be a case of WP:UPE. In your opinion, what should happen now? Should User:Prakashchinna be warned for edit warring? I was certainly surprised when he reported you at WP:AIV. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 04:00, 22 March 2020 (UTC)

Dear fellow Wikipedians, I reported about Mr.Karthikeya, after looking at his log, as i found most of his edits were not about article creations, but of articles removal. So, I assumed he may be a vandalism attacker. This is the reason why brought the account to the administrators notice. Educate me if my assumptions were wrong. I was bit confused when User:EdJohnston was asking an advice from the user, on taking an action!!. I hope you guys knew each other? -- Prakashchinna (talk) 04:13, 22 March 2020 (UTC)
Prakashchinna, my analysis suggests that you are the one in the wrong. You have twice moved Draft:Khatabook to main space as Khatabook without waiting for the normal result of the WP:AFC process. In fact, you removed the AfC template from the article. To avoid sanctions, I suggest you agree that the page be made a draft once again and you promise to wait for the decision of the AfC reviewers. Your use of the term 'vandalism' in your edit summaries is incorrect and may be blockable if it continues. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 04:20, 22 March 2020 (UTC)

Hi EdJohnston, if you feel the same. No issues, I will not further edit or interfere at that particular page which you mentioned. I will work on other pages. Thank you - Prakashchinna (talk) 04:44, 22 March 2020 (UTC)

  • EdJohnston, thank you for the note. I did it based on the listing at Wikiproject SPAM by MER-C. Based on their edit pattern, it does give me paid-editing vibes too so in my opinion, it would have been best to get the articles listed at AFC for a review however you are much senior editor and an administrator so I would prefer your decision as the best option in this case. Thanks, KartikeyaS (talk) 05:53, 22 March 2020 (UTC)

Blocked as a sockpuppet of Riedits. MER-C 10:07, 22 March 2020 (UTC)

Thanks, User:MER-C and User:KartikeyaS343. It appears that the anti-spam system is working as intended. Particularly surprising that Prakashchinna accepted the draft submitted by Riedits. That's about as daring as reporting a patroller at AIV for doing what they are supposed to do. EdJohnston (talk) 13:53, 22 March 2020 (UTC)
Thanks to both of you for resolving the matter :) KartikeyaS (talk) 06:27, 24 March 2020 (UTC)

Kabir Helminski

Thanks for your comment on my article under review: Kabir Helminski. In light of it, I have now removed any statements that are not verified by an independent reliable source, with the following exceptions: statements which simply list Helminski's books (I assume I don't have to provide a footnote linking to the publisher's page for each book); brief quotations from his books (again, I assume I do not have to provide a footnote linking to the book itself on the publisher's website). It would be much appreciated if you could let me know if this article now meets requirements in your opinion. Danthedervish (talk) 16:13, 23 March 2020 (UTC)

I saw your article has already been submitted so please wait for a reviewer to review it. Best, KartikeyaS (talk) 06:55, 24 March 2020 (UTC)

Hello, I write only public figure, celebrity, films articles. I search online about these and write. If did some mistake please help to solve. So that I can make Wikipedia even better. I love to contribute on Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RoZTaly (talkcontribs) 09:21, 24 March 2020 (UTC)

Hi KartikeyaS343,

I have declined the speedy deletion of this article. From what I can see, it meets the two parts of the assertion of "significance", if not notability. WP:SIGNIFICANCE is an "essay", not one of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

I have based my decision mostly on the information contained on the https://kulturportallund.se website, in particular

According to its "about us" page, the website

  • is associated with the Kulturen museum in Lund, Sweden
  • asserts that uses the "Lund's conservation program, the City Library's Lund Collection"

It would appear to me that the article meets the two-part assertion of significance test:

All this to and fro for an article that may not not be kept in a WP:AFD discussion?

Well, start that AfD.

Pete AU aka --Shirt58 (talk) 12:15, 24 March 2020 (UTC)

Shirt58 thank you for the explanation. I will ask the creator to improve it further. KartikeyaS (talk) 06:01, 25 March 2020 (UTC)

UPE

Hi, please do not add UPE tags to articles based on guesswork. It cannot be assumed that SPAs are automatically UPEs and moving articles to draftspace based on guesswork is disruptive, imv Atlantic306 (talk) 21:12, 24 March 2020 (UTC)

Yes, quite apart from apparent unpaid COI, many new good faith editors write in a promotional style because they see so much promotionalism in Wikipedia , nd in the real world even more so, that they assume it's what we want here. DGG ( talk ) 04:22, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
I do not make assumptions based on promotional style of the article but I also check other factors like the editor's contribution history, when did they register and started editing etc. Anyway, I will be more careful next time. KartikeyaS (talk) 05:50, 25 March 2020 (UTC)

CSDs in general

CSD A7 is only for articles that make to plausible claim to significance, not for those which do assert something of significance, that does not amount to our definition of notability . Attempts to change the defiition into to claim to notability have always failed to obtain consensus;; if there's any good faith claim to importance, the community, not a signle deleting admin, needs to evaluate it.

And, for Bi Shumin, an assertion that someone has won a national level literary award is not only such an indication of significance, but a good reason to think there will be sufficient references to establish notability at AfD. You've been tagging a good many speedys--Ias an admin who has deleted tens of thousands of articles, most of them by speedy, I'm not at all reluctant to delete those that are hopeless, but if there is any plausible possibility of an article, speedy is inappropriate DGG ( talk ) 04:26, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
Understood, DGG. Thank you for the note. I will be more careful with the tool. KartikeyaS (talk) 05:52, 25 March 2020 (UTC)

Re: Victor Begg notability

Hello! I'm seeking further feedback on the Victor Begg article. I read through the notability guidelines, and I wanted some clarification. While there is reference to his memoir for autobiographical information, all of the other links come from third party sources. And despite some of those being his own pieces, they were sources utilized to prove his publication on locally and nationally-syndicated columns from reputable news sources that serve local and national audiences. Are there specific sections that could be spruced up or added to so that it could prove his notability? I believe that his awards and "Michiganian of the Year" recognition is just the beginning of his notability, alongside his interfaith efforts for decades in metro Detroit. Additionally, his sources span from the decade. I am happy to do more research, I would just like specific feedback on where I should begin. Thank you for your review of the page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Codyharrell (talkcontribs) 15:26, 25 March 2020 (UTC)

Codyharrell I see someone has drafitified it so you may submit it for a review at WP:AFC. Best, --KartikeyaS (talk) 06:03, 26 March 2020 (UTC)

Jonah Baize Rejected Submission

My article was denied due to, "This submission is not adequately supported by reliable sources. Reliable sources are required so that information can be verified.". I've been trying to get an answer as to why and what needs to be cited better.

Please let me know so that I can complete this srticle.

Simon Ogston Filmmaker deletion

Greetings, It seems I did not provide sufficient detail of why Mr OGston is important to the history of documentary film in New Zealand. I can add such material without problem. COuld you please provide me with the material you deleted? I do not have a copy , and I had to ask some other users and researchers for correct titles and dates. This information was carefully edited, and faultlessly presented. I would really appreciate it if you could return it to me. Thank you in advance. Kindest regards. ~~RexShogun~~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by RexShogun (talkcontribs) 20:46, 25 March 2020 (UTC)

RexShogun, you already have it as a Draft:Simon Ogston where you can improve it and submit for a review by a reviewer. Best, --KartikeyaS (talk) 06:30, 26 March 2020 (UTC)

You violate Wikipedia Notability policy for geographic features (WP:GEOLAND). Which clearly mark Populated, legally recognized places are typically presumed to be notable, even if their population is very low.Alialigalig (talk) 17:33, 28 March 2020 (UTC)

I don't know who to delete Drafts and redirect pages so please delete Draft:Chabba Cheema and also, teach me.Alialigalig (talk) 17:41, 28 March 2020 (UTC)

CSD again

A few days ago you said that you would be more careful with tagging articles for speedy deletion. You have not done so here. Being in the permanent collection of a notable gallery, and exhibiting at others, is a very clear indication of importance/significance, which is a lower standard than notability. Phil Bridger (talk) 10:40, 28 March 2020 (UTC)

And I have just noticed that Egan Frantz had been accepted at AfC by User:Sulfurboy shortly before you tagged it for speedy deletion. If you think that an article that has been accepted there is deserving of speedy deletion then it would be best to take the matter up with the accepting editor first rather than simply apply a speedy deletion template. Phil Bridger (talk) 12:20, 28 March 2020 (UTC)
Phil Bridger my apologies for this but if you check my contributions I have been more careful and the rest of my CSD tags have no problem. When I tagged Egan Frantz for CSD, it has no supporting reliable sources for the exhibitions. Anyway, I could have been more careful and I appreciate your note. I will stay away from CSDs for few days and contribute more to AfDs. --KartikeyaS (talk) 06:20, 29 March 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for moving the IFA page to draft

I appreciate the tip and will get to work on improving citations. Editing1002 (talk) 00:07, 29 March 2020 (UTC)
