Citing Vatican appointments[edit]

I've noticed that articles referring to Papal appointments are using citations in the form "212.77.1.245/news_services/bulletin/news/24171.php?index=24171&lang=en". Several different editors are taking this approach, so I thought it might be helpful to explain a better way to add these references. I've pasted the explanation here in case it is useful, but that doesn't mean I'm accusing you personally of doing citations incorrectly! For example, the citation supporting the Peter Brian Wells article, reads http://212.77.1.245/news_services/bulletin/news/24171.php?index=24171&lang=en#NOMINA%20DELL%E2%80%99ARCIVESCOVO%20DI%20SPOLETO-NORCIA%20(ITALIA)
There are three problems with this reference:

Explicit IP addresses aren't stable: "212.77.1.245" at the start of the URL is an "IPv4 address" that will change in future, in the short term if the Vatican wishes to re-configure their websites and in the long term when all available IPv4 addresses are in use. Instead of explicitly stating "212.77.1.245", the address "seraphin.vatican.va" should be used, which should remain correct in the long term.
The anchor hasn't been checked: in fact "#NOMINA%20DELL%E2%80%99ARCIVESCOVO%20DI%20SPOLETO-NORCIA%20(ITALIA)" refers to the wrong part of the page (it should be "#NOMINA DELL’ASSESSORE PER GLI AFFARI GENERALI DELLA SEGRETERIA DI STATO").
The {{cite web}} template wasn't used: this helps to ensure that sufficient parameters are present for modern academic referencing. In the Peter Brian Wells example, this would be:

I recognize that in general other editors are adding references to articles that you have already created, but I would ask you to check that the references are fixed in your recently created articles, and to add the necessary {{cite web}} references when you create new articles in future. Citing news sources in articles[edit]

I've just noticed that in the Fiachra Ó Ceallaigh article you've inlined a reference to irishtimes.com. The correct way to cite a news article is to use {{cite news}} if the article appeared in the print edition of a newspaper/magazine, and {{cite web}} otherwise. In this instance the online story is tagged "This article appears in the print edition of the Irish Times" so {{cite news}} is appropriate, like this:

I searched for the references for the article and updated it, and moved it back to Paul Sirba (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views). While I'd advise you to add these references yourself next time you create an article, particularly about a living person, I think the BLP paranoia is getting ridiculous when a bot comes along and automatically starts sounding the alarm bells every time an article is created about a living person. It appears to me as if many of your contributions are new articles, and the last several that I have checked were all copyright violations, as they were either machine translations of an Internet source, or copied direct from a foreign-language Wikipedia without attribution.
