Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Downtown Jacksonville, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Midtown, Southbank and Northbank (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). San Marco

[edit]

Hey Mathew, FYI I'm working on a new article on San Marco, located here. When it's done I hope to do some work on the Springfield and Downtown Jacksonville articles, and possibly start a new article on Eastside. At some point I'll also return to my User:Cuchullain/Arlington and User:Cuchullain/Mayport articles and get them in the article space, but right now San Marco's my priority. I hope to have it ready in a week or so; I think one of your neighborhood templates would be a great addition.--Cúchullain t/c 15:24, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Neighborhoods template

[edit]

Hi Mathew, thanks for your continued work on Jax articles. However, I'm not sure about Template:Neighborhoods of Jacksonville, Florida, specifically which neighborhoods are included and in which sections. For one thing, the distinction between "Old City" and "Consolidated" neighborhoods is fuzzy, as there are large parts of the Westside, Northside, and Southside that were in the old city limits (including most of the Northside that actually has people in it), and accordingly, some of the listed "Old City" neighborhoods are generally considered part of the various "sides". And Mayport is part of the Beaches, but it's also part of the "Consolidated" city. I'm also skeptical of some of the neighborhoods it includes. I think the main Template:Jacksonville has a better presentation of the neighborhoods, in just listing them alphabetically.--Cúchullain t/c 15:41, 8 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It was difficult coming up with a workable subcategory. There are many overlapping jurisdictions in this city. I thought of using the planning districts, but there is a lot of overlap there, too. I only applied the new template to Brooklyn. I figured you get a look at it and give me some feedback. I thought maybe "Central" and "Outer". There is really no designation that exist, other than Urban Core planning district, which doesn't include many of the traditional urban neighborhoods. Preconsolidated cities did. So I tried to find a way to fit that in. There really are not any good terminology to differentiate the areas. At least nothing citable.Mathew105601 (talk) 16:21, 8 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, that was my issue too when rewriting Neighborhoods of Jacksonville a while ago. There really isn't a good way to do arrange them all in list form since there are so many overlapping definitions. "Old City" vs. "Suburbs" is probably the term of art, but that doesn't help us with the "Sides", since 3 of them include both "Old City" and suburban areas, and they're really how people divvy up the city perceptually now. Then I thought to go with the "Urban Core" and the four "Sides", with subsections, but there's no consistent definition of the "urban core" (or really the Sides). Eventually I opted to just separate each neighborhood individually as the Wayne Wood book does (and adding other noteworthy neighborhoods as sections or sub-sections as I found sources for them). It's probably wise to include Brooklyn, Lavilla and Southbank under Downtown, though, as the city officially treats them as part of the CBD and so various sources do the same.--Cúchullain t/c 16:28, 8 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:UNorthFloridaLogo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. San Marco

[edit]

Hey, I've finally moved the article I've been working on on San Marco to the article space. It can be found at San Marco (Jacksonville). Please have a look, and if you want to add one of your cool infoboxes I'd be much obliged. I'll also be submitting it to WP:DYK soon.--Cúchullain t/c 21:46, 3 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I'll slap one on there, and thanks for the compliment.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Mathew105601 (talkcontribs)
Awesome. Someone started the DYK already (here). Once the Balis Park renovation wraps up I'll get out there for another picture of the square to use for the infobox, but for now the theater pic will do. Next up, Eastside.--Cúchullain t/c 13:06, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mathew, I had to revert your move of J. Hillis Miller Health Science Center. Cut-and-paste moves are deprecated as they destroy the page history required for copyright reasons. If you want to move pages you can use the move function if it's uncontroversial and not obstructed by a technical issue; otherwise you can start a requested move. Let me know if I can help.--Cúchullain t/c 22:35, 3 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, it looks like there's been some confusion, so I started a move request at Talk:J. Hillis Miller Health Science Center for the new name. St. Johns County, Florida Page

[edit]

Good afternoon,

I am a Communications Specialist writing on behalf of the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners. As the local government body serving St. Johns County, our organization has a vested interest in the content written on the Wikipedia page designated for our region. In our efforts to provide residents, visitors, and external viewers with the most up-to-date and factual information regarding St. Johns County, we recently established a Wikipedia account to offer edits and improvements to the page. Out of respect and consideration for the rules and guidelines detailed by Wikipedia, we have made consistent efforts to offer content which we feel supports Wikipedia’s goals of sharing unbiased, community based, and reference backed information. Though we are extremely proud of St. Johns County and would love to fill the Wikipedia page with endless accolades, we recognize our responsibility to offer site visitors neutral information. We welcome any feedback on how best to balance these efforts. As an example, we would like to share the fact that St. Johns County has been recognized as having the number one school district in the state. There are numerous references explaining this recognition, how it was established, and what it means for our residents and the future of St. Johns County. With your help, we hope to share this type of County fact on Wikipedia in an appropriate fashion. Thank you in advance for your time. Ceilingtile1234 (talk) 19:55, 28 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Mathew, Riverside and Avondale is currently undergoing a GA review. One of the issues identified is the liscensing tags on the image File:Jacksonville Urban Core.png, which is used in several articles. It looks like they just didn't format correctly; I fixed one (Template:Cc-by-sa-2.0) but I can't figure out what the other one is supposed to be. If you could fix it, or tell me which template it is so I can fix it, I'd be much obliged. Thanks for all your hard work on this stuff!--Cúchullain t/c 13:59, 1 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I was looking at other examples. It looks like the file needs to be moved to the commons for starters. Second, the tag for Open Maps was no present. I don't know if it was discontinued, but it was not present in Atlanta , San Francisco, or Boston neighborhoods. Mathew105601 (talk) 16:07, 1 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed! Mathew105601 (talk) 16:15, 1 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Driehaus Architecture Prize nomination for "In the News"

[edit]

Hi! I nominated today's Driehaus Architecture Prize laureate Pier Carlo Bontempi to be featured on the start page of Wikipedia at "In the News". It'd be great for the whole discipline if you could support this nomination.

Please go there: Wikipedia:In the news/Candidates#Driehaus Prize and add Support or Strong Support. Thank you! All the best, Horst-schlaemma (talk) 15:21, 29 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It'd be also very helpful if you could also support this request (click!), so the Driehaus Prize would be considered to be included at "In the News" every year. Thank you, Horst-schlaemma (talk) 18:00, 29 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Jacksonville weatherbox

[edit]

So, can you move {{Jacksonville weatherbox}} to your own userspace, such as User:Mathew105601/JAX, and request indefinite semi-protection for it at WP:RPP before moving it back to {{Jacksonville weatherbox}}? The other option is to nominate it under WP:CSD#G7 and I will recreate it shortly. It is unlikely to be protected otherwise. I don't understand why it is under threat. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mathew105601 (talkcontribs)
There is no reason to believe it will not be the target of vandalism in the future if it is not protected. There already have been attacks on some of the templates: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5] at NYC.
Although my reasoning here may seem unsound, doing a quick count, 51 of the 105 templates at your creation's parent category are indefinitely semi-protected. Clearly, there has been no harm in their protection. "My master, Annatar the Great, bids thee welcome!" 06:57, 14 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I would tend to classify Jacksonville's Union Terminal as being Neoclassical architecture of the American Renaissance period rather than Beaux-Arts architecture. I will continue to look into it, but you might also do so. Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 15:23, 21 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You may very well be right. I've been doing a little digging. One of the architects did attend the E'cole Beaux-Arts prior to the building of the station, but he also has a history of classical works. The Terminal does lack some of the ornamentation of Beaux-Arts, but exhibits some of its other features. Maybe its a bit of his teachings creeping in. I'll continue to look for something solid. Mathew105601 (talk) 03:25, 23 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The more I look into this the more complicated it becomes. Your train station is very much copied from Pennsylvania Station (1910–1963), including the three "pointy things." That article claims that it is Beaux-Arts, so in order for me to change yours I need to change the one yours was modeled from. And that is not likely to happen today. American architecture is a complicated subject and sometimes there is no one right answer. Carptrash (talk) 15:11, 23 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, Mathew105601. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies. Note that Wikipedia's terms of use require disclosure of your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. --Ronz (talk) 15:01, 16 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate your concern, but I am in no way affiliated with any organization to which I have ever edited for. I have no way of proving this, but all of edit revolve around the places I live or grew up. If there is a particular edit that has concerned you, I will be happy to talk with you about that edit. --Mathew105601 (talk) 23:28, 16 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the assumption. In general, you might find it helpful to look over WP:GA articles on topics similar to those you have been editing, so you can see the differences. If you simply work primarily from independent sources, you can't go far wrong. --Ronz (talk) 01:17, 17 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Since your focus in on the local area, be careful with edits related to larger domains like this that look highly promotional in nature. --Ronz (talk) 18:07, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I don't really understand why you are choosing to focus on me now. Yes, my focus area is local, but what you reverted was an example of International stlye architecture, and I'm sure a few other examples on that table were put there under a similar nature, and without citation. Do you plan on removing those? --Mathew105601 (talk) 22:12, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Simply, you keep showing up on articles on my watch list, making questionable edits.
International Style (architecture) needs a lot of work. I don't have the time right now. Cleaning up just the list is tempting. As I do have a great deal of experience with such lists, I'll try to get to that at least. --Ronz (talk) 02:28, 23 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Marsh & Saxelbye, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Northbank. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Speedy deletion nomination of Boyd & Jenerette

[edit]

Hello Mathew105601,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Boyd & Jenerette for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. TheLongTone (talk) 14:54, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A few days ago you uploaded a new montage image of Jacksonville, FL. At the very least the picture needs to show the statue of Andrew Jackson, the person the city is named after, and it should remove the image of the Skyway, a huge mistake that is barely used in the city. Frmorrison

Which church?

Do you know which church in Jacksonville this is? Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 02:48, 28 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Howdy. I had to take a couple of looks at it before I realized it wasn't the same building, and I work on the same block. The building pictured is downtown. It is the First Presbyterian Church, 118 East Monroe Street. Nice looking church. church history. I've seen you edit in Jacksonville before. Are you local? The article Hyatt Regency Jacksonville has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

WP:BRANCH. No particular reason why this one Hyatt would be independently notable, and the article gives no indication that this might be expected.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
