Sandbox page

Hello Praxidicae:

I filled in information about myself on my sandbox page as that seemed to be a requirement, but I am not sure that is the information that is being requested. Could you please review at your convenience and advise what else you need so that my submission on Murphy Cross can be reactivated? I am a work acquaintance of Ms. Cross, not a personal friend, and only have worked with her briefly twice. I was searching for information on a different subject (Larry Haines) and saw where a series in which she starred linked to a dead page, so I thought I would try to help by supplying further information, but I am not sure what I did wrong.

Thank you for your assistance and patience.

Pace, Architecture, Engineering + Planning

Hi There,

I created the page and see that you have deleted it. In my efforts to create a listing that meets the requirements of Wikipedia, are you able to provide guidance on the expectations of the content? I had thought that I had created a robust and well-sourced article so any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Please don't include text of articles on talk pages. Please read the links given on the draft notice to give you guidance. Praxidicae (talk) 13:56, 16 January 2020 (UTC)

Carsten Isensee

Hi Praxidicae, please, please, please, you have put a "Speedy Deletion" template to the article "Carsten Isensee", which is the new CEO of SEAT. We have not intended to make an advertising or promotional article, simply give information about this person and his responsibility in the most important automobile manufacturing company in Spain. A friend, the editor "Koratai" asked me for help because she had created an incomplete draft, without references or categories. All the CEOs of the big companies are on Wikipedia and we want to write an informative and encyclopedic article with more information and references, but we need time to ask for the collaboration of more editors or seek help in the Wikiproject Biographies. Please give us some time, thank you very much--Pesca59 (talk) 18:32, 16 January 2020 (UTC)

La Reina Shaw AfD issue

Hi - I saw you reverted my addition of La Reina Shaw at Articles for Deletion. To clarify you clearly either directly or indirectly i get any compensation for my edits. You marked valid edit as Spam

I added good updated content to the RV terms page, you marked as spam. Why? The content is valid the link is good. It has no spam. There are spammy links on the page but the citation I gave was not. Your thoughts?

No you're adding a spam link. Praxidicae (talk) 18:11, 18 January 2020 (UTC)

Can you help me understand how this link would be spam?

It only provides information.

It's obvious SEO spam. These "guide" blogs are nothing but spammy seo trash. Praxidicae (talk) 18:18, 18 January 2020 (UTC)

I think that is harsh. i have over 20 years working in this field and am working hard on great content from question I receive everyday. Have you ever looked at the older content I was updating? It is outdated and the panel info I provided was concise, cited and accurate.

Regarding article Nitish Bahalwala

I again confirm it was not for advert or promo purpose and had sole intention for people to know about the author whom I have met and have seen the author felicitation.

I have removed the images that may infer the source of conflict of interest and absence of neutral point of view. I didnt create this wiki for advertising purposes or for promoting. I'm just trying to make a wiki that has accurate information about "Yuni Wa" for the over 10 million people that have streamed "Yuni Wa's" music. I just want to contribute positively to Wikipedia and make a accurate profile for this notable artist @Praxidicae:.

Regarding articles for "Esther Rose Featherstone" and "Swoove"

Thanks for your feedback. As you can probably tell I'm pretty new to Wikipedia so I based the above articles on those for "Beto Pérez" and "Zumba" as they were the closest in content to what I wanted to write. I am not affiliated with, or paid by anyone or any company, that have wikpedia articles I have edited. I have now stated this on my user page. Do you think this will influence the decision to delete by ‪Jimfbleak‬? Thanks in advance. Pcogle 15:56, 19 January 2020 (UTC)

Pcogle No because they were both blatant promo. Can you please explain how you became the copyright holder of these images? Praxidicae (talk) 15:58, 19 January 2020 (UTC)

I was not meaning to write promotion, just state the facts as I know them, in the exact same manner as the Zumba page. I am the copyright holder of the photographs at these locations because I took the photographs with my own camera. I was at the events referenced in the meta-data. Pcogle 16:17, 19 January 2020 (UTC)

Pcogle Given you took a personal photo, I assume you have some sort of conflict of interest and would encourage you to read said policy and disclose as required. Praxidicae (talk) 16:44, 19 January 2020 (UTC)

You are on a roll, against churnalism. Here is something to charge you. DBigXray 19:49, 19 January 2020 (UTC)
DBigXray heh thanks. This is actually part of a much larger problem that I found today relating to several sources which are very widely used, so AFD is about to get flooded and I suspect several dozen UPE accounts are going to be found. Praxidicae (talk) 19:49, 19 January 2020 (UTC)
Praxidicae, yes, WP:UPE is a perennial problem. Glad to know that you are doing your bit to fix the problem. However based on what I have seen, I will advise not to take more than a few (e.g. 5) articles from a particular editor in a day. IMHO the community does not appreciate overwhelming the creators with AfD. So may be, you can mark it in your Sandbox and nominate the remaining later. Just some friendly advice. regards.--DBigXray 19:57, 19 January 2020 (UTC)
I'm not worried, it's not just this editor that I was referring to, it just happened that two of their articles appeared on my Watchlist while doing some work finding the rest. Praxidicae (talk) 20:02, 19 January 2020 (UTC)

Article Fred Opert

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Fred_Opert

I am intrigued to learn how you could come to an assumption that I am being paid to set up a Wiki page on Fred Opert. I assure you I am not.

Perhaps a brief background will help. In the seventies I was a freelance motorsport journalist in New Zealand where I briefly met Opert when he bought his team to compete and twice win the Peter Stuyvestant series with future world champion Keke Rosberg.

I have written a book about Opert which has yet to be published.

In the 1960s and ‘70s Opert was a notable motorsport personality, he had a significant impact on formula racing in the USA and Canada before going on to enter his team in Formula Two in Europe and finally managing a Formula 1 team, ATS.

I believe that people interested in motorsport will get benefit from a Wikipedia page about the man. Peter.R.Hill (talk) 01:43, 22 January 2020 (UTC)

well primarily because when you look at worldcat the first thing that comes up is a book by someone named Pete Hill that is yet to be released. Hope that clarified things, Peter.R.Hill. Praxidicae (talk) 02:33, 22 January 2020 (UTC)

I have always made it clear that I have written a book about Opert, I raised that in my very first interaction with a Wiki helper and told you, above. No one is paying me to create a page about him. I have not in any way promoted the (yet to be published) book. Just to be clear, I haven’t been paid for the book either. The page can stand on its own merits as providing information about a notable motorsport personality. Peter.R.Hill (talk) 04:08, 22 January 2020 (UTC)

Rejected draft CAEplex

Hello Praxidicae. Thank you very much for your time and effort you are giving to Wikipedia. It is due to people like you that he have such a trustful body of knowledge.

I know that you rejected my draft CAEplex due to non-reliable sources and advertisement-like article. I hereby appeal to your experience in order to help me out understand what the article is missing. If you allow me, I would like to explain what I am trying to achieve. First, the kind of solution that CAEplex provides is not know for the vast majority of engineers in the field of Finite element method, which are used to traditional desktop-based software. So I want to spread the base of people that are aware that something like this exists, and the best way to achieve that is through Wikipedia. This is a fact but I cannot cite any source rather than personal experience. On the other hand, there are at least two other similar(ish) platforms that indeed have an accepted entry in Wikipedia, whose sections and content I tried to reproduce in my article. I have now added them to the "See also" section, but they are CONSELF and SimScale. Also, the first and only clod CAD platform, Onshape also has a similar kind of content. I even explicitly avoided adding more screenshots because these other entries do not have any. To sum up, based on your experience and what is your opinion about what the draft CAEplex needs to have in order to be on the same level as these other entries? Once again, thank you very much. Kuroshivo (talk) 09:23, 16 January 2020 (UTC)

No comment on this issue? I will try to further change the content to match even further other alread-accepted pages and submit the draft again. Kuroshivo (talk) 09:18, 22 January 2020 (UTC)

The consequences of the Jeff Young (DJ) AfD for radio articles

I have read your rationale for the deletion of the Jeff Young (DJ) article in relation to "independent, reliable coverage". The problem is, your rationale as to what meets general notability guidelines which you successfully used to delete the Jeff Young article would also sink a lot of radio related articles, including for more famous disc jockeys and individuals within the radio industry, radio stations and radio industry articles and particularly in the UK. A lot of UK radio articles use either the BBC (radio broadcaster) or Radio Today (industry media outlet) as a source which you clearly and confidently stated failed GNG for Jeff Young's now deleted article.

Technically, Chris Evans, a far more famous DJ and presenter, would fail your rationale as the vast majority of citations on his article are for a former employer (the BBC) and therefore could be fair game for AfD. But I suspect Chris Evans article going to AfD would draw attention from outside of Wikipedia.

Your call, but you would have a field day with radio articles (particularly UK ones) on Wikipedia. --tgheretford (talk) 21:19, 20 January 2020 (UTC)

I honestly can’t tell if you’re encouraging me to afd more articles to be deleted or not. Praxidicae (talk) 23:04, 20 January 2020 (UTC)
Usually when people play WP:OSE deletion chicken with me, I just go for it. Sounds like encouragement to me! Bkissin (talk) 00:17, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
it also sounds like a threat with the “drawing attention outside of Wikipedia” comment but I really can’t tell. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Praxidicae (talk) 00:53, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
Yeah, sounds like a threat. I don't think Chris Evans (who I didn't realize was a different Chris Evans) would pass an AfD anyway, seeing as he is a presenter on Top Gear. Shows how much I've paid attention to Top Gear since they fired Clarkson. Bkissin (talk) 01:29, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
yeah but I might get “outside attention”! :,) #veryscary Praxidicae (talk) 01:31, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
Chris Evans (presenter) is a terrible example, as there is literally craptons of secondary coverage about him out there - his article would not be deleted at AfD, despite what Tghe-retford says. Notability is about what coverage is available (or not), not about what's in the article already when nominated. Prax's rationale of "This doesn't appear to be a notable DJ [...] the subject lacks in depth, independent coverage" specifies that there isn't SIGCOV (which the closer noted was the consensus established by policy/guideline argument). This same rationale would not apply to Chris Evans due to the substantial amount of SIGCOV available for him. Waggie (talk) 01:37, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
I'm being serious. As for the "craptons of secondary coverage", they don't appear to be cited within the article I quoted as an example. --tgheretford (talk) 21:14, 22 January 2020 (UTC)
Tghe-retford please clarify what you mean by “attracting outside attention” thanks. Praxidicae (talk) 21:27, 22 January 2020 (UTC)
Eh, it's probably something along the lines of "I'll go to the press" and the Guardian will write an article about how Wikipedia is biased against a local BBC presenter and it will be 'very embarrassing for us. Bkissin (talk) 21:33, 22 January 2020 (UTC)
As far as AfD is concerned, it's not about whether it's cited in the article, it's about whether it exists. Obviously, it should be in the article (as appropriate for a quality article), but is not required for the purposes of determining notability in an AfD discussion - this is why WP:BEFORE is required before nominating an article. Others have commented that Evans' work on Top Gear and other places may confer notability, but it's the real secondary coverage to support that can be summarized into content for an article, that matters per WP:GNG and WP:ENT. The only time we should be deleting an article for a notable subject at AfD is when the article itself is un-salvageable and would require a complete rewrite. Waggie (talk) 21:29, 22 January 2020 (UTC)
But this is getting off track with the whole "attracting outside attention" bit, which may border on WP:THREAT. Tghe-retford, I apologize for the snark on my end, but having found a copy of the deleted article on a Wiki mirror site, I have to agree with Prax's call here (maybe not the speedy, perhaps move to draftspace, but hindsight is 20/20). The sources from Camp Soul Fest and Summer Soulstice would not really be considered Wikipedia:Reliable sources, JazzFM has the conflict of interest or would be promotional since he works there, and sources from the Beeb and the Independent mention his name once (not exactly Wikipedia:Significant coverage). With your Chris Evans example, he has had several significant profiles in the media, and some of his behaviour has led to notability outside presenting. It seems like you are doing great work, and you should keep it up, but this one still needed some work. Bkissin (talk) 22:01, 22 January 2020 (UTC)

London Royal Ravens

Could I get some clarification on your input regarding sources on the article? Are sources directly from the verified twitter account associated with the team not correct as sources of signed players/staff? As the new league has just started over the weekend and the Royal Ravens Homestand event is in 2 weeks I was hoping to be able to get the article ready before then.

Thanks in advance Brandon Downes (talk) 18:23, 27 January 2020 (UTC)

Please see WP:N. Having an event in two weeks is not a sufficient reason for inclusion in an encyclopedia. It lacks entirely in independent coverage, Brandon Downes and same for the rest that you've created. Praxidicae (talk) 18:24, 27 January 2020 (UTC)

A $300 million dollar international league in one of the most popular games series in history isn't notable? The league is created and run by the same people who created and run the Overwatch League so why is this deemed notable but the Call of Duty League and corresponding teams are not? Brandon Downes (talk) 18:35, 27 January 2020 (UTC)

Being affiliated with notable subjects doesn't mean they are notable. You need to provide sources - for each team - that establish their notability and they must be independent, reliable and significant coverage, not announcements or passing mentions. Praxidicae (talk) 18:36, 27 January 2020 (UTC)

jAlbum article

You have recently made some reversions in the "JAlbum -" article, mistakenly thinking that I have a financial stake in jAlbum, which I don't.

The result of these reversions is that the page does not now reflect reality but contains numerous errors which I had corrected.

Can I respectfully ask that you re-read Wikipedia's "Reverting guidelines", as I don't think you have followed these.

Among other problems, in five instances, you have reverted the correct spelling of "jAlbum" to the incorrect spelling of "Jalbum".

You have removed the description of the current license model and reverted to two obsolete license models. (jAlbum is NOT now "shareware"

You have reverted to the statement "Jalbum can be thought of as similar to Google's Picasa, or Apple's iPhoto". This is incorrect.

You have removed the source reference to "is available in 32 languages."

You have reverted to mentioning the obsolete "Flash" technology.

You have reverted to obsolete subscription offers. Jimberryau (talk) 05:03, 29 January 2020 (UTC)

When I purge my talk page it implies my intent to end the further discussions on my talk page and I do reserve the right to not talk further if I don't want to.

Regarding my edit you made an issue of, it was done in a good faith. I was just trying to to help the user by moving the page on his request. I didn't know that was a spam article because at that time it was not notified as such on that draft page. But from now on I'll just turn a blind eye on the page requests I see on technical page move list. Since helping others may land me in trouble. Thank You and Good Day! Hemant DabralTalk 21:17, 29 January 2020 (UTC)

That isn't even the primary issue and you would know this if you bothered to actually read what other editors have said to you and perhaps put some thought into a response. Praxidicae (talk) 21:18, 29 January 2020 (UTC)

I don't reply on my talk page because it leads to unnecessary arguements and quarrels. I just go silent because I don't want to engage in edit wars. It's just waste of time and energy. I reply on article's talk page though. My main issue with you is your attitude which is very bullying and threatening in nature. You were not polite when you approached me and you assumed bad faith on me by default, even though it's the first time you're talking to me. I read what people post on my talk page and I get their message. As I said, I won't move the pages up for technical requests in future even if they begged me. Be assured. Hemant DabralTalk 21:32, 29 January 2020 (UTC)

I did not assume bad faith. I merely pointed out, several times, that there are issues with your edits which you refuse to discuss. Praxidicae (talk) 21:34, 29 January 2020 (UTC)

There are many reasons that discourage me from posting replies and discussions. If you have time to read I'd like to post the issues I've faced in replying the messages to people.

1. First comes the Wikipedia Policy that says this site is not meant to be used for social networking and chatting with other users, thus limiting the scope of open, detailed and free discussions.

2. I'm not sure how and at what point the nature of purely editing issues may turn into personal arguements and combats between two users. There is a good chance if the person whom you are replying to might turn you in to the administrators for the perceived "spamming" and "trolling" on their talk page, in case they didn't like your replies. This behaviour is very discouraging for the constructive discussions.

To avoid these caveats and altercations, it's best to talk on an article's talk page instead of a user's talk page. Hemant DabralTalk 22:28, 29 January 2020 (UTC)

New and Confused Member

Hello! I wrote a draft more than 3 months ago. I just saw that you moved this draft from the sandbox to someplace else.

I therefore thought you would be able to help me with this question as well. How can I get this article published faster? I read somewhere to contact someone from the related WikiProject page, but no one there seems to know about Turkish Art so I don't really know who to contact. Please help! :)) Kilicsultan (talk) 13:43, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

Hi Kilicsultan! So, when people mark their sandbox as ready to be reviewed, reviewers are told to move those sandboxes into the draft space. That's why your draft got moved. There is a massive backlog among drafts waiting to be accepted. I would ask for help over at Wikipedia:WikiProject Turkey if you haven't already, and I'll take a look as well. Bkissin (talk) 13:57, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

I need some help...

I see you can help fix articles, I need some help to clean up a particularly spammy and promotional article, the link for it is here, I hope you can help me with the clean up, and also help cool down the mild edit warring, and tensions on it's talk page. I hope you can help, because looking at your edit history you seem good at this sort of thing. 96.230.240.122 (talk) 01:17, 31 January 2020 (UTC)

Greetings, I am working to re-work/update this page with verifiable content that meets Wikipedia guidelines. I am seeking advice/counsel on proper editing as I am not seasoned at this. Thank you for your time and assistance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tyreal13 (talkcontribs) 16:41, 31 January 2020 (UTC)

Hi Praxidicae. I kindly ask you to check the article on the Italian sculptor Tommaso Geraci. I personally think that the encyclopedic relevance is missing. The article contains exclusively local sources linked exclusively to the places where this artist worked, that is in Sicily, region of Italy. --5.171.226.77 (talk) 17:58, 31 January 2020 (UTC)

Suicide

Hi. I've been working in suicide prevention for over a decade, sit on numerous mental health advocacy boards, and have published on suicide prevention in a number of major publications. If the consensus regarding the issue of "committed suicide" vs "died by suicide" was to continue using the former instead of the latter, the consensus was misguided. "Committed suicide" is stigmatizing language that equates the act of taking one's life with a crime or sin. We must stop using language that conveys/implies blame for suicidality. The reason we're facing a suicide epidemic now is because people are too ashamed to reach out. Why does this matter for Wikipedia? Before attempting suicide, many people often research individuals who have died by suicide. Let's disrupt, not fuel, any shame they might feel when contemplating a suicide attempt. There are numerous sources online from advocacy groups and media outlets about this change in language.

It's great what you do but this is an encyclopedia and we follow what the sources say. Please read the several discussions about it by searching Wikipedia: space and "died by suicide". There is no consensus to change everything wholesale to "died by suicide." Praxidicae (talk) 22:52, 1 February 2020 (UTC)

Hello Praxidicae, by policy, you are required to disclose your WP:COI about Borrtex. Is there any reason why you have such a negative approach to him? Maybe some external relationship which can trigger a conflict of interest?? Thanks. MusicHyper (talk) 10:32, 2 February 2020 (UTC)

no I don’t and I suggest you disclose as I already told you. But feel free to take me to WP:COIN. Praxidicae (talk) 12:22, 2 February 2020 (UTC)
What should I disclose? I already stated everything needed. What else do you want to know? You want me to share my personal information? Please, be careful about your activity on my talk page as it might be used as an initiative for WP:HUSH, thanks. MusicHyper (talk) 12:35, 2 February 2020 (UTC)
Read WP:COI. And stop with your asinine warnings here. In fact, stay off my talk page with your inflammatory remarks entirely and keep your comments contained to the AFD. I am not harassing you. You however are making unfounded accusations against me and I suggest you stop immediately. Praxidicae (talk) 12:37, 2 February 2020 (UTC)
Both of you need to stop. MusicHyper, you've made your point, and added twice as much content to the AFD as to the article itself! Prax, you've made your point, and 4k of warnings is a tad much - they might not have used a template but they've clearly stated multiple times they know Borrtex and therefore have a COI. Let the AFD play out and let someone else comment; there can be no consensus if only two people comment. Primefac (talk) 13:12, 2 February 2020 (UTC)

US National Marathon Champion Ilsa Paulson

Hello! You recently placed a proposal to delete the page for the 2009 US National Marathon Champion, Ilsa Paulson. Perhaps there were not enough sources for you to see that she was the National Champion. Several have now been added, including the Runner's World article from 2009. You'll notice that she was one of the "women in red" from the US National Champion Marathon winners. Would you have any other questions about the verification of her being the National Champion? Thanks for your vigorous editing and your desire to make Wikipedia a better place for all. Comm260 ncu (talk) 18:59, 2 February 2020 (UTC)

Vestments in Malankara Mar Thom Syrian Church

Hello, I understand that you have asked for speedy deletion of the page Vestments in Mar Thoma Syrian Church based on that certain content is from a website of MISC and I have not attributed to it. To be honest my article and the sentences which are similar to the website is from the Book 'We believe' published last year. Anyways I have cited the bove website of MISC. Hope my article wont be deleted, it took a lot of effort.

Hello Praxidicae,

What do you mean by reliable source? Can not the links of the various articles be deemed as sources proving that one is stating is true? Do suggest if you need anything specific so that one can arrange for it. Please confirm. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by H Holz (talkcontribs) 19:38, 6 February 2020 (UTC)

Why was the page redirected? it literally has 26 references and i was editing when you done that!

It wasn't redirected, it was moved to draft space. Please go through AFC. Merely linking to things doesn't make them suitable sources. As an example, sources like this are completely unacceptable. Praxidicae (talk) 21:31, 6 February 2020 (UTC)

Permission to contribute as editor

Hi,

It was remarked that I was an undisclosed paid editor in Wikipedia, which is not true. I research in a few areas, organizations, and persons in every day of my work. I have had found lot of useful information and profiles o Wikipedia which had helped me a lot in my research. Meanwhile, I had found that prominent people were not on Wikipedia, who deserves a little information to be listed on Wikipedia. In this purpose, I had found enough trusted sources like digital newspapers, publishing and print media sources from which I had gathered information and structured it as per Wikipedia standards and created pages. In these cases I had not received any compensation from any organization or person in creating these pages. I am voluntarily contributing content to Wikipedia whom I found missing in this. In case you believe it as plagiarized or promotional, it will be considered and will thoroughly check before updating on Wikipedia for the future edits.

Thank you & welcome advice

Thank you for review of Draft:Avery Yale Kamila. I'm new to this and have had two articles accepted without issue. Any advice on improvements for this one? I've got another in development and want to stay on track.--BrikDuk (talk) 16:50, 11 February 2020 (UTC)

More than half of your sources are unreliable, not coverage or just listings. I'm not in agreement that the other two should have been accepted but that's not really the issue here. Praxidicae (talk) 16:50, 11 February 2020 (UTC)

Got it. Thank you. I think I was too careful to cite where dates and other specific details came from and linked to autobiographical profiles on less reliable sites. I'll go through and improve the citations. What do you think about "provocative columns" mention? Remove it? --BrikDuk (talk) 17:57, 11 February 2020 (UTC)

I've cleaned up the citations inDraft:Avery Yale Kamila and resubmitted for review. I appreciate your help and constructive feedback. It was very helpful. Thank you. --BrikDuk (talk) 15:07, 12 February 2020 (UTC)

Please restore my books

You have eliminated all my published books, including books published by St. Martins Press, High Times Press and Trine Day Press. Yes, I have some self-published books (most of which are free) but I also have some very influential books and a big fan base. I self publish now because it's a way better deal than working with publishers and it is wrong to remove all my books under the guise that these are not important. Obviously, you have read zero of these books or you would have some appreciation for my hard work.

Self published isn't published for this purpose. Praxidicae (talk) 15:05, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

I am not a "paid agent" I am the author.

My first book Hip Hop went through four printings. Yes, now it is self-published but it remains the best book on the origins of hip hop and is widely read today. My second book, Art After Midnight, was published by St. Martins Press and is considered the definitive guide to the East Village Art scene still today. Yes, it is now self-published. My third book, Adventures in the Counterculture was published by High Times press. My fourth book Octopus Conspiracy was published by Trine Day. Neither of those two are self-published. I have deleted almost all the self-published books, but a couple of these are important and people looking me up should know about them. Your nuking of all my published works is highly unfair to me and to the readers of this site.

You may not edit articles about yourself. So please stop. Praxidicae (talk) 15:21, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

I am not "editing" I am attempting to stop my famous books from being removed. For your edification, here are some reviews of my first book.

Please keep your spam off my talk and do not mass copy and paste stuff. As the subject of the article you may not edit it. You may ask for changes VIA THE TALK PAGE. Praxidicae (talk) 15:33, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

New Page Reviewer newsletter February 2020

Hello Praxidicae,

Source Guide Discussion

The first NPP source guide discussion is now underway. It covers a wide range of sources in Ghana with the goal of providing more guidance to reviewers about sources they might see when reviewing pages. Hopefully, new page reviewers will join others interested in reliable sources and those with expertise in these sources to make the discussion a success.

Redirects

New to NPP? Looking to try something a little different? Consider patrolling some redirects. Redirects are relatively easy to review, can be found easily through the New Pages Feed. You can find more information about how to patrol redirects at WP:RPATROL.

Discussions and Resources
Refresher

Geographic regions, areas and places generally do not need general notability guideline type sourcing. When evaluating whether an article meets this notability guideline please also consider whether it might actually be a form of WP:SPAM for a development project (e.g. PR for a large luxury residential development) and not actually covered by the guideline.

Rollback

[1] and [2] were probably inappropriate uses of rollback. I know it can be easier to just hit the single button sometimes, and I've probably crossed the line a time or two myself, but those edits certainly weren't vandalism, let alone blatant, so unless there's some backstory I'm missing, please be more careful. –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 19:33, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

What about his verified Instagram account ? I seen so many approved articles with just YouTube links as references he has many videos and his Instagram is verified Kayla4175 (talk) 19:10, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

Social media is 100% irrelevant wrt notability. Praxidicae (talk) 19:11, 13 February 2020 (UTC)
And the fact that he's verified on twitter is completely irrelevant and even if we did allow instagram as a source for notability, it woefully fails WP:V since there's absolutely nothing that can be verified via a private account. Praxidicae (talk) 19:12, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

What about YouTube videos ? I seen many Wikipedia articles with only YouTube links as references Kayla4175 (talk) 19:15, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

And the page being private I believe is a personal choice since there so many famous celebrity who constantly put they page private after they announce upcoming projects which I believe is a fast way of gain more fans etc Kayla4175 (talk) 19:16, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

Any further discussion about this can take place on the article's talk page, I don't have any advice for you as he simply is not notable. Praxidicae (talk) 19:17, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

Well thank you again for you help , hope you have a wonderful day happy Valentine’s Day Kayla4175 (talk) 19:39, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

COI

Hi Praxidicae, my article has been aceppted and published, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antonio_H._Castro_Neto. However, there's a tagging "This article may have been created or edited in return for undisclosed payments, a violation of Wikipedia's terms of use. It may require clean-up to comply with Wikipedia's content policies." This is not true as I am not paid at all to write this article. I know the person, that's why I wrote an article about him, I know that he fits the notability criteria, but I definitely did not get paid to do it. I edited the article several times just to make sure it will not sound promotional, though the subject is about him, just to make sure that it wont be biased in any way. I have provided all sources to my writing to make it verifiable. I just wrote it, they are facts. Please consider reviewing and removing the tagging. As a reader, if I see this article with this tagging on top, it will create instantly a negative wrong impression on me (thinking it might be biased as it is paid), but it is not. So I find it quite unfair for the subject to be exposed in this manner. Thank you for your time. Marilen.buenviaje (talk) 03:19, 14 February 2020 (UTC)Marilen.buenviaje

Can you help me, please?

I want to ask you questions about developing regulations because I have a problem with the opening of the title, even though I have done what the relevant explanations want to tell.

First of all, I have a lot of actor friends, so I don't want to edit their pages but it creates a commercial perception. This doesn't seem right to me at all! Knowing them closely means that I will have more information about them. I also cite all of the arrangements I made. Because I know them, it is easier for me to reach the accuracy of these resources. In addition, the sources are not reliable, but the sources I have shown are media organizations such as Cnn Türk and important newspapers. How did you still ask for the right source when you cited them? I ask you to help me develop Wikipedia correctly.

The magazine resources I have shown have also been used on other pages. While these sources are not considered as insignificant sources on these pages, it is really sad to be considered insignificant in the sources I have shown.

The series of my fellow actors, whom I tried to give information about, is published in more than 10 countries around the world and I think that there should be an English article about them. I provided sufficient information about his family and business life through secure sources. What kind of information should I give other than that, can you enlighten me?

I had to write to you because it was in the headline that I should speak to you. I hope I can get the most accurate information from you, as you are the intervention.

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by My Life's In Your Hand (talkcontribs) 12:46, 17 February 2020 (UTC)

Looking for second opinion on likely NN & COI article

I'm just reaching out to get another editor's opinion regarding an article that I believe is both promotional and on a non-notable subject and I have noticed you do a good job at recognizing promo/nn articles. I came across the Potterless podcast article after tagging an article on it's production company, Multitude Productions, for speedy deletion. I originally tagged it with notability, sourcing, and COI tags but SPA editors have removed them a couple times. I am likely going to nominate it for deletion but just want to make sure I'm not missing anything. Much thanks, GPL93 (talk) 17:40, 21 February 2020 (UTC)

I agree and it's probably worth filing an SPI on the half dozen SPAs there. I can't comment beyond that though. Praxidicae (talk) 17:49, 21 February 2020 (UTC)

Draft: Kary Oberbrunner

I keep trying to add a picture for this person and I know it is added correctly, but it keeps getting deleted for no obvious reason. Last deletion was done by you. Can you clarify it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by JohnKnoxvile (talkcontribs) 19:24, 21 February 2020 (UTC)

I didn't get paid to write it

Hi Praxidicae,I absolutely don't have any financial take in it, I'm a blogger so I might have got carried away using some flowery language. Will make amends and remove anything that proves otherwise, but I definitely did not get paid to do it, the subject is an African American making strides and impact. I edited the article several times just to make sure it will not sound promotional I'm also welcome to advice on improvements. Understanding Wiki Contribution Guidelines

Dear Praxidicae,

This regarding my recent edits / addition to the robotic vacuum cleaner article ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robotic_vacuum_cleaner ). I did my own research on this topic and added some details in sections. I also added a site link which I found during my research on robotic vacuums.

I found that you completely reverted the sections which I added. If you feel that a website link is the issue, then you can definitely remove the link and place the legitimate one. But I would like to understand why a well researched write up is completely removed from the wiki.

Can you let me know the reason of the deletion of the write up ? It will help me to refine my future research. Waiting for your reply.

Best Regards Samsengupta (talk) 18:46, 22 February 2020 (UTC)

I did discuss it before removing a merge notice from Shilah Phillips

When you click the button to discuss it, it takes you to Talk: Miss Texas , so I left a comment there. I had also, back on January 18, posted my reasoning for not merging to Talk:Shilah Phillips. Since nobody else has made any comments for more than a month, I figured nobody else was interested. I found quite a few more sources since then also.[1][2][3][4] HouseOfChange (talk) 20:18, 21 February 2020 (UTC)

While working to improve the article, I found many RS that consider it a BFD to be the first black Miss Texas, including not only the Houston Chronicle and Dallas News but also CBS News, Slate, and the NY Daily News. Not one person in more than a month has argued that Shilah Phillips should be merged into Miss Texas. If you still object to my removing the merge discussion tag, please tell me what else should be done before that tag should be removed. HouseOfChange (talk) 18:56, 22 February 2020 (UTC)

Question concerning the motivation of draft removal

Hi there, I would like to inquire about why the proposed new page on Living Systems Process Suite has been rejected as an ad while this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camunda seems to be pretty much the same type of page so i was wondering how we can contribute more info in a more objective way. I have read through https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:What_Wikipedia_is_not#Wikipedia_is_not_a_soapbox_or_means_of_promotion and I am failing to see the problem.

Kind regards Eko1437 (talk) 13:29, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) Hi @Eko1437: I would recommend you read WP:GNG to understand why this subject is not eligiable for a Wikipedia article at this time. You are correct that Camunda is likely also in violation of the WP:GNG - thank you for bringing this to our attention. -- a they/them | argue | contribs 13:46, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

Peter Stanton (Ecologist)

Hi, you have suggested my page "Peter Stanton (Ecologist)" appears to be intended only for promotional purposes. This is not the case, the subject is a significant figure in Australian environmental history and deserves a wikipedia entry. Many others who have recieved the IUCN Fred M. Packard award alone have qualified for a Wikipedia listing based thereupon and in addition thereto the Public Service Medal is considered to be a significant Australian government awarded honour. Does Quoting the citations that accompanied these awards or the scientific endeavours that led to their being awarded qualify as promotion? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mamieisblue (talkcontribs) 14:24, 29 February 2020 (UTC)

Dental articles

Dear Praxidicae, I have gone through WP:MEDRS as per your recommendation. We represent an editing team from the University of Dundee who has been editing Dental Wikipedia pages for the past 4 years. All the articles posted have been written and reviewed by dental specialists/professors from the Dundee Dental Hospital and cited accordingly. The sources of our articles are also secondary sources from reliable journals, textbooks and dental guidelines. It would be great if you could let us know what exactly have we violated in terms of copyright or WP:MEDRS. Please kindly redirect us to the specific rules that we have violated so that we can make necessary changes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by R.O.Ulceration (talkcontribs) 00:28, 3 March 2020 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) R.O.Ulceration, no comment on your editing, but your use of "we" is potentially problematic - Wikipedia accounts must represent a single person and may not be shared or otherwise represent a group. creffett (talk) 00:37, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Creffett, I can assure you that my Wikipedia account represents only me. However, Praxidicae has deleted multiple entries that have been entered by other users of the Wikipedia Collaboration of Dental Schools on the same page that I was working on. Hi Praxidicae I'm replying to your posts on my talk page regarding possible paid advocacy and deletion of a page I created. I'm just a huge MMA fan living in Asia, and for a huge MMA fan in Asia, ONE Championship is all I've got. That's why I'm trying to help their presence on Wikipedia since it was truly dismal. There's no need for me to write on the UFC, since they're well-taken care of already. I would appreciate if you could give me examples of the violating promotional language so I can remove it and learn what can or cannot be posted. I already read the guidelines, and thought I was within the lines already. Thanks! Evilmichaelscarn (talk) 15:25, 4 March 2020 (UTC)

David Murray (Australian Businessman)

Hello Praxidicae,

Thank you for reviewing my edit most promptly and advising me of this on my talk page

I do believe there has been a mistake made in this instance, possibly due to a number of changes made on David Murray's page. I'm still learning how to correctly edit pages and have run into some issues, hence the repeat edits.

The current paragraph is inflammatory and do not take a neutral stance as referred to in the Wikipedia's living person biography policy. I had also included his correct date of birth and education information, which has also been deleted. Could you please review the below suggested paragraph and advise how I can go about making these changes permanent? Is this an issue that I should raise on Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard?

Current paragraph:

Climate Change Denialism

Murray is an aggressive climate change denier and political saboteur to the benefit of Australia's mining sector, who has sought to derail public investment in renewables and moves towards carbon taxation. Against a backdrop of increasingly severe 2013 bush fires, he slandered an Australian group of scientists who he said lacked any "integrity" after they attributed the disasters to increased carbon emissions. This prompted the Australian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society to publicly declare they were "disturbed" by his statements.

Note here: The sentence; “Against a backdrop of increasingly severe 2013 bush fires, he slandered an Australian group of scientists who he said lacked any "integrity" after they attributed the disasters to increased carbon emissions.” Is completely incorrect. When looking at the Sydney Morning Herald Article – Climate Change: scientists attach David Murray for ‘serious slur’ – those referred to comments about the 2013 bushfires, were actually made by Tony Abbott, mentioned at the end of the article[1].

Suggested paragraph:

Climate Change Views

Murray has made public comments on attempts to mitigate climate change[2].

Murray has expressed views on Australia’s carbon tax legislation 2012, describing it as the worst piece of economic reform he has seen. Explaining, the legislation would raise costs within Australia and reduce Australia's competitiveness in energy exports[3]. This has led to comments which have suggested he denies climate change.

Thanking you in advance.
