Just a quick note of thanks for the barnstar -- I looked through Flickr but could not find any CC/appropriately licensed images for the Digard page, but I'll keep looking. Any improvements you have for the page, go for it. (It could use an assessment on its Talk Page - real quick thing to do as Bristol just got waved off for a start due to John Andretti's issue :-) )

Hi Royal. I think something weird happened with your first message...

Anyway: I see no problem with magazines in themselves. The question is more about their reliability for what is being discussed. A discussion of carburettor problems is probably not best sourced to a lifestyle magazine and details of a driver's divorce (say) might not be best coming from Race Tech magazine. Provided the articles are written by people who know their topic (i.e. have a good reputation) you should be fine.

TV is a bit difficult, I think. You could only use it for obvious unarguable things - like two drivers colliding on a certain lap. Anything more complicated would be your interpretation - whose fault the collision was, for example. That means they they might not actually be very useful as sources. I think you could probably cite the transmission in the various ways you suggest, but you've got to consider whether those sources are available to anyone else (legally!). If they're not (as DVDs?), then they don't really add any weight to what you've written. Even if you know a race was broadcast between 2 and 4 on 5 September 1991 on Channel X, that doesn't mean anyone else can retrieve the information. I know a lot of my stuff comes from books that people don't have, but they can always get them through a library or on Amazon if they want to check up on me. I don't know how anyone could reliably check what was seen or said in a TV transmission.

On the whole, I'd say avoid using the TV transmissions if at all possible.

At the point of speedy deletion it had several (at least 3) assertions of notability in my humble opinion, and I have asked what more is needed. How a popular CCM band can be speedy deleted after they have a Top 5 hit cited and a major CCM label record deal is beyond me. I have added several more points of assertion. Thank for doing the update! I started this article because I felt it contributed significantly to the Alan Kulwicki article, which I am improving to at least Good and hopefully Featured Article. Whelen Modified Tour

The photo of the Geoff Bodine Gremlin-bodied #99 probably should be removed from the WMT article. While almost everything Bodine raced has been for pavement racing, that car was a dirt modified that he ran at the Syracuse fairgrounds (and perhaps a special at Orange County, if the pic is from that flickr user's collection). It's not representative of past or current Tour modifieds. It would be appropriate if we get a dirt modified article together, though. Barno 15:01, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Strong thanks. While those don't fit the WMT article, they would be interesting additions to the early-career sections of the drivers' bio articles. Some (especially the Kenny Weld/Gary Balough 112 "Batmobile") would be helpful in illustrating a dirt modified article. Growing up in Wisconsin, did you have only IMCA-type dirt modifieds? Stock frames, claimer engines, ten-inch tires, $300 to win in the 1980s? I grew up on real northeastern dirt modifieds: Chevy big-block, a huge carb with no restrictor plate, and a ton of tire stagger, $1200 to win in the 1980s. Much more weight transfer entering a corner than an asphalt mod. There are still 25 or 30 dirt tracks in NY and a similar number in PA. There were a lot more in 1967 when I was age 3 in the Glen Aubrey Speedway and Ithaca-Dryden Speedway stands while my father did handicapping or scoring. Barno 23:15, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

I see the Batmobile isn't one of those uploaded by your bot. I must have seen it when I followed your link to the flickr page. (Could you check whether that image is CC-by-SA licensed? If so, it would help the project.) I saw a couple of the nine cars in the Wikicommons category in person, and the rest in weekly tradepapers. I also saw some of those drivers in other cars. Should we add a separate section to Wikipedia:WikiProject NASCAR/Organization for wikicommons' NASCAR category? I went to my first in-person races as a college sophmore in 1989 in my hometown Chilton, Wisconsin. My parents dragged me there. I thought it would be a bunch of rednecks trying to roll their cars for a case of beer. I couldn't have been more wrong. I was TOTALLY AWED by the cars when they were packing the track! I've been hooked ever since, and now everyone complains that I spent too much time and energy going to local races. Too bad! I used to watch all of the NASCAR races in the 1980s, but my interest has shifted to local races. Now I watch some of the races early in the NASCAR season. This year I went to every local racing facility in the eastern half Wisconsin except for one dirt track well over 2 hours south of me along the Illinois border, and two 1/2 mile dirt tracks around 2 hours north of me. Plus I missed the Milwaukee Mile. I will go to a Mid American Stock Car Series exhibition race at Road America in late October. I went to 4 karting tracks. So I saw almost everything around.

There are a few cars called modifieds left at one track that go way back to the 1950s [1], but that breed is all but extinct. They were extremely prevalent in the early 1970s according to my parents. A group of restored modified cars from back in the day toured the area last year in exhibitions. Many dirt tracks in the area are IMCA sanctioned, and they all have the IMCA Modifieds [2] and IMCA Street Stocks. Some have IMCA Hobby Stocks and IMCA Sport Modifieds. Slinger Super Speedway has "Midwest Modifieds" based on IMCA Modifieds [3] [4]. Nothing is very much like the Whelen Modifieds on TV. The guy on flickr is very happy to allow pics to be uploaded to Wikipedia, so either ask or I would if you give me a link.

I like the idea about linking WikiProject NASCAR to the Commons categories. I'll bring up managing all racecar categories on Commons at WP:MOTOR - it's another great idea. Also, I tell the bot what images to upload through a web interface. Royalbroil 02:21, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

dirt modified photos

• I looked through us44mt's photo archive on flickr that you mentioned, and identified a couple that would be valuable to us. Mike McLaughlin's modified (1979 or 1980) is at[5]. The "Batmobile" that Gary Balough drove at Syracuse, the first dirt modified with ground effects more sophisticated than a roof wing, is at [6]. Eventually we might consider photos for Kenny Brightbill, Jimmy Horton (you already got the red 3 onto Wikicommons), and maybe Jack Johnson, as they're notable enough for WP bio articles. I started the Jimmy Horton article since I had 2 images. I easily remember him from his Cup and ARCA days, and I felt he needed an article despite no Top 10 NASCAR finishes. Smackbot Diffs

Greetings, just trying to explain my comment (then I will put the stick down...)

The diffs you linked to on ANI appeared to support the fact the task was approved

The first diff had the following comment for the first task:

"Task approved, does your bot already have a flag?" from User:lightdarkness - [[7]]

The second diff had the following comment on the second task:

"Looks good to me. Feel free to go ahead" from User:Carnildo - [[8]]

Both of those statements appear to me at least that the bot had approvals for both tasks listed. I was wondering if I was missing something in regards to them not actually being approved. I had been looking at the Emerson Jr./Sr. High School (Emerson, New Jersey) article, and I saw his name listed as an alumnus, but no source was provided for his attendance there. I had never heard of him, and I did a search in The New York Times, my usual first step, not expecting to find much of anything. I found a few articles, and not only did I have a source, but this was a truly interesting subject for an article. I added my source and started a new article. I was gathering additional material to expand the content, but you mostly beat me too it. While I create plenty of articles, DYK gives me the incentive to create something more than just a stub, and this was a perfect example of that. While I did create the article, you certainly deserve your share of credit. I had meant to notify you of the DYK nomination, and I'm glad you found it. Congrats to you, as well! The article is on my watchlist since I contributed a lot to it, and since I added it to WikiProject NASCAR. I noticed the DYK template on the article's talk page. I came across the article from on a bot's result page for all new articles about NASCAR. I usually have to wikify them. Occasionally a bad one slips through that needs to be deleted. I often expand them, which is what happened in this case. I immediately go to google when I'm starting a new article. I won't start an article without solid reliable sources on google. I often don't wikify/expand if google shows few reliable sources. I started using the NY Times since they opened their archives. I don't feel that you personally have discouraged me in any way against attempting to become an administrator, but the comments/threats by some of your zealous advocates in your RFA caused me major wikistress. The incident caused me to stop considering any possibility of an administrator role for myself. I went the route of attempting to improve the quality of articles instead. I have no problems with you in any way, and I appreciate that you find my contributions positive. I have no questions about administrators or their role in Wikipedia. I meant that I thought that I would have extremely low probability of success - that I would be snowballed. I've found a couple of references for Buffy Waltrip and added them to the article. One thing I'm not clear on - her article says she's the owner of Michael Waltrip Racing, but that article doesn't support that. I've found a ref for the fact she owns the car but maybe they jointly own the company? Perhaps you can shed light on that...

On the subject of RfA. I don't think you'd snowball at all, far from it - I think you have plenty to offer and are a stronger candidate than many who pass RfA every week. It has been felt lately that there is a lack of admin candidates who have good experience of content writing rather than just vandal reverting and automated processes. As someone who has ongoing experience of the RfA process, I think you'd do well - I won't make any promises I can't keep but I wouldn't have offered to nom you if I didn't think you were highly likely to pass. Geobox for racetracks

Hello, you've put a meassge on my talk page concerning the suggested use of the Geobox template for racetracks. I'm just the author of the technical solution, the Geobox template. Kranar drogin asked my for help in implementing this template for racetracks but that's where my involvment ends, whether the Geobox will be used or not is up to the editors participating on the project. I've restored this article to User:Royalbroil/V*Enna. If you have any pages in your userspace that you want deleted, just place {{db-userreq}} on them and somebody can take care of them. I hope you can expand the article a bit; it needs a lot of improvement compared to the other band articles linked from Essential Records (Christian). I went ahead and removed the article from your userspace. Thank you for the heads up about User:Rachael Lampa Fan. Based on the user's deleted contributions and the messages left on their talk page, it was obvious to me at the time that the user was disruptive. However, after looking into their contributions more in depth today, I realized this was in error. I went ahead and removed the warning from the user's talk page and left a message about the article. You seem to have a good bit of experience under your belt, so would you be willing to offer Rachael Lampa Fan some advice about writing POV-correct articles? I'm going to leave them another message with some advice specifically about V*Enna, and I think it would be excellent it if you could follow up as well. Also, I'd like to extend a truly sincere thanks not just for pointing out my mistakes, but for opening up and engaging in a dialog that encouraged productivity and collaboration. Cadwallader Washburn and Edgewood College

Hi! I have no problems with merging the 2 articles about Cadwallader Washburn as long as the citations, references, sources, external links from both articles are preserve. Also the person who started the second Washburn article using the Payner book as the main citation/source also edited the Edgewood College article using the Payner book. I feel this is a good faith editing like with the 2nd Washburn article the individual started. However, the Edgewood College needs to be spruced up a little as the result of the editing.Thanks-RFD (talk) 15:07, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Obviously the two articles about Gov. Washburn need to be merged since they are about the same person. I put the merge tag on them hoping that someone else with a stronger politics background would be willing to merge the articles since politics is not my specialty. I'll eventually do it if no one volunteers. I hadn't noticed the changes to the Edgewood College article until you pointed it out. Parts of it are very messy. I found it at User:AlexNewArtBot/NASCARSearchResult which I watch. The bot lists any new article with the string "NASCAR" in it. For future reference, you can bring up any United States race track (aka circuit) to me - I'm willing to assess if it belongs or not. I know plenty of websites for references. Congrats on your new shiny mop and I'm very glad that you actually asked; it doesn't hurt to be conservative when one starts out initially (I knew how it was like when I first got mine). :) I've no objections to the undeletion of the article (as per your suggestion) if you are able to fix it up to exceed existing notability guidelines, which essentially is the concern resulting in its deletion. And of course, sources are a must, and should be added shortly after restoration. Much as it pains me to say it (hey, my lady and I were at that 1984 concert), I fear the venue simply lacks notability; it's just a local rock club named as a cultural reference to a rock movie. The coverage is all local, and trivial; there are no significant events linked to it. It looks like spam. I think it should be deleted. The link was not about an official governement website, chamber of commerce, tourist, historical society, schools, etc. You may want to doublecheck to see if the user put any more links of that type in with the various Wisconsin local government entities.
