Hi red, I didnt archive this because it is possible for it be reopened and so it is not true to say new comments go in a new section ... I will leave it now that it has been done anyway. -- maelgwn - talk 05:21, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

A Barnstar

The RickK Anti-Vandalism Barnstar
Well done patrolling vandalism today! :) *Cremepuff222* 02:23, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

I don't think you read what you were reverting to - [1] Although the anon was blanking, they were doing so because the article had been thoroughly vandalized and even moved to a meaningless page.  :) Corvus cornixtalk 21:42, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Welcome to the 1.0 ReviewTeam

Hi Soxred93, thanks for signing up for the Review Team! Please take a minute or two to look at the FAQ page, and then have a go at some of the nominations listed at Wikipedia:Release_Version_Nominations. We typically expect to pass anything that is on a non-obscure topic, as long as it is B-Class or better; if it's only a Start then it would (a) need to be at least "usable" and (b) on a fairly important topic. I'd suggest initially sticking to topics you're familiar with. Also, we'd love to get some 2nd/3rd opinions on some our set nominations at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations/Set Nominations. Or nominate your own set, and I'll comment. I got really busy in the fall, but I expect to be around more in January.

In a week or two we are going to be testing some lists generated by the new Selection Bot, please let me know if you want to be involved evaluating this work. (Another bot writer like yourself might be very useful!) This will allow us to select 20,000-30,000 articles automatically - a great step forward, but we obviously we need to get the parameters adjusted well! Thanks again, Walkerma (talk) 05:46, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Help me

Thank you for your help. I am not sure that you read the full question. That is why I re-posted it. Thanks. (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 00:22, 7 January 2008 (UTC))

Hmm...while I tried to help you above by answering all the questions at once, I don't know why you woul dneed them separated like that. Could you please explain why, and for what purpose? It might change the answer depending on what the purpose is. Soxπed Ninety Three | tcdb 00:22, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your help. I think that our messages are crossing each other. I will address the above message, presently.
  • You said: I tried to help you above by answering all the questions at once ... I am not trying to be rude, and I do appreciate your help, but in fact you answered none of my questions. Hence, the re-post. Please re-read my questions. You didn't answer how to have Table 1 lie directly on top of Table 2. You didn't answer how to change the text font size in headings. You didn't answer why the charts look different even though they have exact same settings. So, no offense ... but how / where exactly did you answer these three questions? My suspicion is that you read my questions ... and, in your brain, you re-interpreted them ... and then you answered that re-interpreted question that you created (but which I did not ask). Your interpretation of the question was "How do I make headings on Table 2, using the Headings that appear in Table 1?" ... That was the question you answered, and that was the question that you "heard" --- but not the question that I asked. In fact, my question explicitly stated that that was not the question I was asking --- by providing the background of how I had already first created the revised chart that you (subsequently) sent me.
  • You said: I don't know why you woul dneed them separated like that. ... As my original question stated, that is not relevent for the time being. I ran across this problem, and it made me think of these questions, so I asked these questions -- hoping to understand the how and why behind what makes these charts work. I was not trying to create a heading for this chart, as my original question stated. (I had already done that and -- in doing so -- it made me think of these questions, so I posted the questions.)
Thanks. Please reply at my Talk Page, if you can help me with my three questions. Thank you for your assistance. (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 00:34, 7 January 2008 (UTC))

Updating pages with images uploded by others two minutes ago

I upload the Crazy John's brand, then literally just two minutes later you have inserted it in the Crazy John's page. This was while I was going through the article doing corrections and improvements, as I normally do when I upload brands to further improve the applicable page. Should I be expected to complete my edits more quickly?  SEO75 [talk] 02:31, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

No, keep going at your pace. Take your time, if it means a good article. I was just putting it onto the page because it should be deleted otherwise. The reason it was done so quickly is because I patrol new images. Soxπed Ninety Three | tcdb 02:33, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
I shall, but two minutes is a little, ummm, 'tight'. It caused an edit conflict, which I then had to work out what happened, thinking I had to integrate my changes with someone else's.  SEO75 [talk] 02:56, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned Pages

I was wondering if there was a way to make SoxBot skip over disambiguation articles when tagging orphaned articles? By their nature, if we are on top of things, most dab pages ought to be orphaned, so the tag is unnecessary. Perhaps (I know nothing of bots) telling it to skip articles with the {{disambiguation}} template? Pastordavid (talk) 11:56, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

And, I just looked, there are a number of more specific dab templates as well. Pastordavid (talk) 11:57, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
It already does that. Could you please show me which ones? Soxπed Ninety Three 16:07, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
I came across this and http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Aagesen&diff=176258765&oldid=166235637 this] today, just doing some work on the orphan-list. Pastordavid (talk) 17:35, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
It normally skips the regular disambig templates, disambiguation, disambig, dab, etc. The second one, it is a specialized disambiguation template. This is a pywikipedia error, not mine. Soxπed Ninety Three | tcdb 17:37, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
Ok. Thanks for the speedy response. Pastordavid (talk) 16:29, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

fair use rationale for PL_Inthesquare.jpg

Please explain the rationale for your having placed a warning on the uploaded file "PL_Inthesquare.jpg", as its fair use rationale is exactly the same as for other Patty Larkin album covers uploaded so far. I cannot tell what the difference is that marks this one as a possible violation. Thanks. -- Couillaud (talk) 15:28, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the quick response. The only thing different from this upload and the others is that I uploaded it before actually having finished creating the article to which it attaches. Maybe it was just bad timing. -- Couillaud (talk) 15:38, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Bad timing is correct. I patrol new uploads, and I just tag the fair use images if there isn't an article attached. Soxπed Ninety Three | tcdb 16:35, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

awesome

I used to run User:MarshBot to tag orphan pages but it was taking up too much time because of the manual work needed with every cycle (figuring out which pages the bot skipped and why... I collected quite a list of pages that shouldn't be tagged as orphan articles). If I can be of any assistance to you, I could probably take on an hour or so of cleanup work a week... although your bot seems to do a lot of work mine didn't (like autogenerated a list of dab pages). Anyway let me know, especially if you need the human help to keep the bot going. This sort of a bot is good for the project. --W.marsh 19:30, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your comments! The one thing I need help with is to find all the disambiguation templates, not just {{dab}}, {{disambig}}, but every single occurence. It keeps adding the templates to pages with obscure disambig templates such as on Aagesen. The reason for the disambig page, is so that it can get more than the normal 1000 on Special:Lonelypages. Soxπed Ninety Three | tcdb 20:56, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
As it happens, I compiled quite a list of pages the {{orphan}} tag shouldn't go on. Here is the raw output of my "skip page if it contains" code from AWB:
linkless|geodis|copyvio|{{Disambig|this AfD|This page has been deleted|#redirect|dated prod|4LA|{{dab}}|{{hndis|{{disamb|numberdis|4CC|3CC|2CC|Schooldis|Shipindex|Tempdab|Wikipedia does not currently have an encyclopedia article for|{{wi}}|{{surname|4CC|TLAdisambig|{{deleted|{{move to|{{dicdef
That covered just about everything as of a year ago. You might want to clean up the code, it was a bit jury-rigged since I don't know much about programming/syntax, but the basics are there. Let me know if I can help with anything else. And yeah, making sure pages got cleared from lonelypages was what took me so long... I had to manually update the list of dab pages every week. --W.marsh 23:57, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Orphan page found

I have found a page that is Orphan. The page is Alicia Miguel Schüll. What can I do to help make this page not be Orphan anymore? MonicaCabaski (talk) 05:59, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Two things

First of all, I would like to say thanks for approving my bot. Secondly, I commented in your RfA, and I promise my Support did not have anything to do with the fact you just approved my bot. :-) Good luck!   jj137 04:40, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Good luck in your editing futures, please let me know if you need any assistance. I'm sure you will be a great editor and future administrator! Seicer (talk) (contribs) 01:57, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
Good luck in the future, I hope to be voting with full support soon! Pundit|utter 02:03, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
Agreed. Although I opposed I never say never. I look forward to a support in the future. Best. Pedro :  Chat  13:33, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Hey there Soxred93, I've asked a couple of questions at your RfA if you get a chance to answer them. Good luck to you! Keeper | 76 17:12, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Greetings. I noticed your RfA. I wonder if you would be willing to change your signature to be more easily readable and so that, for example, cutting-and-pasting your displayed signature can be used to find your user page. While you don't have to do this, I think it's less confusing when peoples' signatures are the same as their username, and that this is particularly important for admins. See discussion here. --Coppertwig (talk) 20:18, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

The above was simply a request that you change the appearance of your signature to match your username. The following is a more important concern: I clicked on the right-hand section of your signature, hoping to get a link to your talk page, and instead ended up at a page displaying some XML with your username in it somewhere. Maybe something is malfunctioning. The page I get when I click on "DB" begins " This page is being rendered in XML format, which might not be suitable for your application." and has computer code (XML) that I don't make any sense out of. OK, if you can get it to work, you're doing some nifty technical stuff that may be convenient for RfA voters during your RfA, but when you're an admin I think it would be better to have a simple signature with just a link to your userpage and talk page, so that new users can easily contact you. By the way, I get the impression you're good at the technical side of things and probably know how to do a bunch of things I don't know how to do. --Coppertwig (talk) 14:47, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

The "D" in your signature is still not working. I have a suggestion to make your signature a little more user-friendly if you do keep it more-or-less like that: I suggest somehow putting the letters "T C D B" slightly further apart, and the letters in your name slightly closer together, to give the impression that TCDB is not all one word. Maybe you know how to do that and I don't! except by changing fonts or adding spaces between the letters. I admit you know more than me about technical stuff. I might come to you with questions about how to do bots, if you're not too mad at me for initially voting oppose on your RfA. --Coppertwig (talk) 22:22, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Just to let you know, I have. You just haven't seen the new one. Soxred93 | talk count bot 22:50, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Help! Orphan page found

I found one of your tags on Alicia Miguel Schüll. What can I do to help the page not be orphan anymore? CathyJoyce (talk) 23:24, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

That's a good question. You could try going to related pages, such as February 18, 1974, and Ninel Conde, and linking to her from there. Soxred93 | talk count bot 23:58, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

January 2008

Huh? --Rodhullandemu (Talk) 14:32, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Wow, quick reply. I was talking about your edits to WP:ADCO/RFC. I saw you made quite a few concecutive edits to the same page, and I was just notifying you to try to consolidate those edits into 1 or 2. Soxred93 | talk count bot 14:34, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
Well I was trying to move my non-current request into current, but it was late at night and I got it wrong. In any event, if you're running for admin you should already be aware of this, and a clue would have helped. Thanks anyway. --Rodhullandemu (Talk) 14:40, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

I see from Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/JJBot 2 that you have approved this Bot account, however you did not list it at Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/Approved. Does the Bot require a flag? WjBscribe 11:09, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Yes it does. I just never got around to listing it there. Soxred93 | talk count bot 18:36, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

I've listed the Bot and flagged it. I strongly recommed that you list approved Bots at Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/Approved immediately after approving them so that records are complete and flagging happens in a timely manner. WjBscribe 23:58, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

UAA reports

Hi. I saw that you reported Hvf8th (talk · contribs) as a random username and blockable. I don't think it's random... it reads out loud as "have faith". But even so, since people remember things like telephone numbers, surely there must be some sort of minimum length before random can be considered confusing and blockable, don't you think?

Anyway, I was just thinking that in order for us to expect admins to take our UAA submissions seriously, we really have to make sure that we are correct when we assert a given username needs an immediate block. All the best. MKoltnow 02:30, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

You are correct, I never realized that. On a license plate, I might have noticed it, but I wasn't expecing it here. I'll try to keep an eye out for that now. Soxred93 | talk count bot 02:32, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Thomas Hatto

Not so sure about changing the db-bio on Thomas Hatto to a prod; there's no explanation of what this mysterious "Youth Offending Team Project" actually is. Ditto for Katie King-Smith. Suspicious they both attend the same school *shrug* --Blowdart | talk 17:22, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

I put the prod on instead of the A7 because it gave some indication of notability. "He is most notable for the Youth Offending Team Project." While it does not explain what that is, it gives some assertion of notability. Soxred93 | talk count bot 17:24, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
I'd say it fails under "the requirement for verifiable objective evidence to support a claim of notability". Heck that could have been a school play, but oh well we'll just have to agree to disagree. --Blowdart | talk 17:47, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:ACDClogo.svg)

Thanks for uploading Image:ACDClogo.svg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 09:50, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Black Lamb image

Thanks for the warning, but I was right in a middle of editing in the rationale when your edit screed it up.

I only just up loaded it. Please give somebody a little more time to do the edits next time. Stephen Day (talk) 23:05, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

That's ok, just try to do it on the first edit next time. Thanks for the notice. Soxred93 | talk count bot 23:06, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
Thing is I generally fine it easier to add in after I've uploaded the image. Since it takes me less than a minute to do the edit most times, there hasn't been a problem until now. Stephen Day (talk) 23:17, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

What constitutes an Orphan.?

Hi there,

i'm a relatively new editor in Wikipedia.

your bot tagged one of the pages i created as an orphan, and i've added many links in related pages in the time.

I need to know these,

  • How many links are required by minimum to remove the "orphaned" tag?

thanks,

Swraj (talk) 19:13, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

1 link. It does not automatically remove the template once you add links. Soxred93 | talk count bot 21:12, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

what shud i do to remove that?

Thanks 4 the reply,

What shud i do / be done o remove the notification ?

Edit the page, and remove the part that says {{orphan|January 2008}}. Soxred93 | talk count bot 13:16, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
