Veeragattam is a village(mandal) located in Srikakulam district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.[2]
Geography
Veeraghattam is located near the Vatttigedda river. It has an average elevation of 83 metres (272 ft). Talavaram is the largest sub-village in this mandal. At present Veeraghattam was under Palakonda division. This small town is surrounded by vast fields and hills which attribute to the climate and scenic beauty of this place.Villagers from the places around Veeraghattam run small scale businesses in this small town, thus the village attracting a lot of crowd. Also, there are some tribes which come from nearby forest areas to sell vegetables and fruits for livelihood. The town has an active group of people conducting various social activities like blood donation camps for active engagement of the locals. The place almost situated close to the Orissa state board also has a good number of people speaking from the neighbouring state. The town has attracted strong Christian establishments like Christian missionary schools, Montessorie for providing free education to the needy.
Demographics
As of 2011[update] census, Veeraghattam had a population of 14,315. The total population constitute, 6,911 males and 7,404 females —a sex ratio of 1071 females per 1000 males. 1,427 children are in the age group of 0–6 years, of which 741 are boys and 686 are girls. The average literacy rate stands at 70.89% with 8,638 literates, significantly higher than the district average of 61.70%.[1][3] Owing to the tropical climate, agriculture and small scale business is the major occupation of the maximum population. There is no railway transport to this location , the nearest railway station is Parvatipuram at a distance of 27 km.
