Some Wikipedians have formed a project to better organize information in articles related to Pink Floyd (including individual members' work). This page and its subpages contain their suggestions; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians. If you would like to help, please inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list there.
Pink Floyd are one of the most successful and influential bands of the last 50 years. While the Pink Floyd article itself has achieved featured status there are dozens or hundreds of other Pink Floyd articles which still require a lot of work. In addition, there is a shortage of fair-use images, poor referencing, and a large number of redirects and stubs which need expansion. It is the goal of this project to unite the many Pink Floyd fans and Wikipedia editors to improve the myriad of Pink Floyd-related articles. For more information on WikiProjects, please see Wikipedia:WikiProject and Wikipedia:WikiProject/Best practices.
In order to track our progress as a community, whenever you perform some notable work on the following goals and projects please add a note on the talk page letting us all know where we are on our goals.
If you feel that you can make a positive contribution to the project, become a member by joining the list of members. If you don't know what to write or where to begin, or if you have doubts or ideas on how to improve an article, please address the project's discussion forum.
Goals
The goals of this WikiProject are:
To improve Wikipedia's coverage of Pink Floyd, by improving articles related to the subject.
Watch out for vandalism.
Tasks
If you are wondering where to start, take a look at these tasks:
Try to expand all songs stubs if possible. Some song stubs cannot be expanded (For example Main Theme on the More Soundtrack). Echoes (a good article) may be a suitable reference point of what to cite and include.
Expand all canonical studio albums to at least Good Article status. Expand other album articles (all).
Personally invite quality editors working on Pink Floyd articles to join the project.
Bibliography
In accordance with Wikipedia policy, facts and assertions should be attributed to verifiable, reliable sources wherever possible (see WP:V and WP:RS).
The Project's preferred method for this is inline citations using the <ref> tag. There are two ways to do this:
One way is to put the book in the "references" section:
*{{cite book|last=Schaffner|first=Nicholas|title=Saucerful of Secrets|publisher=Sidgwick & Jackson|location=London|year=2005|edition=New|isbn=0-283-06127-8|ref={{SfnRef|Schaffner|2005}}}}
With citing the book in the article:
{{sfn|Schaffner|2005|p=77}}
The other is to cite books with the page number, without placing the book in the "references" section
*{{cite book|last=Schaffner|first=Nicholas|title=Saucerful of Secrets|publisher=Sidgwick & Jackson|location=London|year=2005|pages=116–117|edition=New|isbn=0-283-06127-8}}

XXXtylerXXX--"I'll be doing some moderate edits for this WikiProject. The Floyd bug has bit me, and I'll be contributing more as time goes on.
Theaterfreak64--"Ticking away the moments that make up the dull day" isn't my favorite Floyd quote, but it pretty accurately describes how I utilize Wikipedia.
ASDFGHJKL--"I have become comfortably numb looking for pigs on the wing so not now john I gotta get on with this!" Strike that, "The sun is the same in a relative way but your older. Shorter of breath, and one day closer to death."
Ummagumma23 - "its awfully considerate of you to think of me here"
XMaddogWolfx Haven't you heard it's a battle of words. The poster bearer cried. Listen son, said the man with the gun. There's room for you inside. -"Us and Them"
S1312 - "The lunatic Is In My Head" -"Brain Damage"
Douglasr007 - I guess I'll get the WPFloyd template out there on the songs, anyone can help me if they want to. Scratch that. I guess reading the whole WP is a good idea before doing anything.
AfterFX (talk) - "When cometh the day we lowly ones, through quiet reflection and great dedication, master the art of karate, lo! we shall rise up, and then we'll make the bugger's eyes water."
Careful With That Axe, Eugene|Talk - "...and if you survive 'til 2005, I hope you're exceedingly thin; for if you are stout then you'll have to breathe out, while the people around you breathe in..."
Sister Morphine - "....and after all, we're only ordinary men"
Mk5384 (talk) 06:14, 3 June 2010 (UTC)- I hadn't planned on joining here, but one user's crusade to rid this encyclopaedia of Pink Floyd song articles has led me to reconsider.[reply]
