Referencing errors on Julia Möller

[edit]

Reference help requested. Please, somebody be so kind and correct the archive-url error here: Julia Möller. Thanks! --Fadesga (talk) 00:31, 5 December 2016 (UTC) Thanks, Fadesga (talk) 00:31, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Fadesga: it has been fixed by Maineartists. If you're interested, you can see what was changed at [1]. --Gronk Oz (talk) 02:10, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Moving A wikipedia page

[edit]

Hey! So I need to move a page from my sandbox to an actual page, how do I go about doing that? Rebekah — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rmccann15 (talkcontribs) 08:32, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Rmccann15, is this about User:Rmccann15/sandbox? If it is, there would be a problem with moving it, as Wikipedia already has an article on Pinus virginiana. Also, parts of your sandbox version have been copied, without attribution, from that article, technically a violation of copyright. If you could let people here understand what you're trying to do, I'm sure this can be sorted out. Maproom (talk) 08:48, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I see that Rmccann15 is a student on a course. Another student on the same course, EnsleyHydroSib, is working on a draft article at User:Hydrocotyle sibthorpioides. I don't blame the students, who are doing good work; they're just doing it the wrong way. Someone needs to have a word with whoever is in charge of this course. Maproom (talk) 09:02, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I see that EnsleyHydroSib moved their sandbox to the non-existent username (probably intending to move it to a userspace draft). I moved it to a userspace draft. —teb728 t c 10:17, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Try reading the various answers which you have already been given on your user talk page at User talk:Alice Wonder pekhwar#Wikipedia is not a live chat service. Referencing errors on Cabinet of Donald Trump

[edit]

Reference help requested. please help on the reference issue. Thanks. Thanks, Israeltefera12 (talk) 13:28, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Israeltefera12: Your edit (diff linked in the heading of this section) removed some content about candidates no longer in line for cabinet posts. As it happened the removed portion contained the definition of a named reference (the part beginning <ref name="Politico-cabinet-in-waiting"> and followed by a {{Cite news}} template) which is used many times in the rest of the article. So at all other positions where that reference name was invoked using <ref name="Politico-cabinet-in-waiting" />, the system was left without details of that reference. Hence the red error message. One bot informed you on your talk page, and shortly afterward another bot rectified matters automatically. So no worries, just something to look out for when removing text containing references: Noyster (talk), 20:30, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Help:Cite errors/Cite error ref no input

[edit]

I added the title of a new (2014) book on the Bread and Roses Strike. I don't understand what is still missing re: >ref. can someone fix this for me? yes, I made a contribution to Wikipedia the last 2 years. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LindaStern (talkcontribs) 13:53, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the empty <ref></ref> tag which you accidentally added to 1912 Lawrence textile strike. Maproom (talk) 14:17, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Missing or empty |title= (help)

[edit]
Resolved

I am trying to edit this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vincenzo_Botta

And I received the error message: Missing or empty |title= (help)

I know what this is, and the sort of thing I need to do. I have consulted the Help link., But it just isn't clear. I could do with an example of what I supposed to do to create a title.

Thank you.

John Cooper — Preceding unsigned comment added by Spycoops (talkcontribs) 14:58, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It looks as if the appropriate title of the book which you are using as a reference is "New York City directory, 1882/83". --David Biddulph (talk) 15:06, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It has been fixed by Trappist the monk. Eagleash (talk) 15:11, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

What type of page protection?

[edit]

I was going to request protection for Ashwath, a disambiguation page, because it seems to be suffering repeated vandalism. Should I request semi-protection or pending changes? Thanks, Leschnei (talk) 15:52, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think the level of vandalism is high enough to request any protection at all. However, for that type of vandalism, if there were more of it, I would go with semi-protection. As a disambiguation page it shouldn't need to be altered frequently enough to make pending changes worthwhile, and all the vandalism so far is unregistered people, so semi-protection should be adequate. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 15:56, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I'll keep an eye on it and see what happens. I've noticed that this type of vandalism seems to come in waves on any particular page. It caught my eye because some of the edits deleted the legitimate content. Leschnei (talk)

Copyvio on talk page

[edit]

Template:Copyvio-revdel says "This template is intended to request Revision deletion of portions of an article's history" - I cannot find an equivalent template for talk pages.
Am I reading the instructions too literally? or have I missed a talk page equivalent ? (Talk:Taj Mahal if there is a passing Admin) - Arjayay (talk) 16:21, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Despite using "article" in some places in its documentation the template can be used for any page (the same as RD1 criterion). Ruslik_Zero 16:46, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Unable to determine why the page was deleted, deletion logs missing

[edit]

Hello! I was working on a page for Mushroom Wars 2 game, when, after a claim on the copyright violation of the image I was using (the image created by the artists of our studio), all the text was deleted as well. I cannot retrieve it in the revision history and I'm missing deletion logs. Could you please advise me on what the reason for deletion is and how can I restore it?

Thank you, Ksenia Shneyveys

P.S. In less than 2 months after its launch, the game has over 1000000 downloads and a lot of reliable sources that can reference the game. It is it is a separate game within a series, as it differs greatly from all the Mushroom Wars games, I believe, it deserves a separate wikipedia page.

Belosnegova (talk) 16:45, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You do not have any deleted contributions. Ruslik_Zero 16:49, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
We have an article on Mushroom Wars, but not yet one on Mushroom Wars 2. Were you editing without being logged on to Wikipedia, or using a different name? It is usually safest to use WP:Articles for creation or your own sandbox when working on an article, but even there, you need to be very careful about copyright. Naming a new BLP

[edit]

I'm starting an entry for someone named Eva Chen but I'm not sure how best to disambiguate the title from the existing Eva Chen. The Eva Chen for the entry I'm working on has been editor-in-chief of Lucky,[1] beauty director at Teen Vogue,[2] and now is head of fashion partnerships at Instagram.[3] Any thoughts on what an appropriate parenthetical title would be? (I can provide more sources if it'd be helpful.) Thanks much. Innisfree987 (talk) 17:41, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Eva Chen (editor) would seem to cover most of her notable career, including her most prominent posts to date and even "Fashion at Instagram". She also uses it as a self-description in various social media profiles. -- zzuuzz (talk) 17:57, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Kappa Alpha Theta

[edit]

The Kappa Alpha Theta page in Wikipedia says it is the 1st sorority and was founded in 1870 with its 2nd chapter also created in 1870. The Pi Beta Phi page in Wikipedia says it was founded in 1867 and its 2nd chapter was founded in 1869. That clearly makes Pi Beta Phi the 1st sorority and the Kappa Alpha Theta page is wrong according to both Pi Beta Phi AND Wikipedia. Pi Beta Phi says they have done all they know to do to get Wikipedia to correct its records so I'll try on their behalf.68.45.26.74 (talk) 18:20, 5 December 2016 (UTC)Ronald Kovener References are from Wikipedia as state above.[reply]

Kappa Alpha Theta says it was the first Greek-letter women's college fraternity. Pi Beta Phi says that it was founded in 1867 as I.C. Sorosis, the first national secret college society of women to be modeled after the men's Greek-letter fraternity. I don't see an inconsistency. --ColinFine (talk) 18:48, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'd love to get involved in this. :) The Statement about Kappa Alpha Theta is referenced to Hank Nuwer's Wrongs of Passage which I'd count as both a Neutral and knowledgable source. The only place that I think that you could get a Better source would be Baird's Manual of American College Fraternities. And I've worked my wayback through the last 2.5 years of edits on Pi Beta Phi and haven't seen anything change significantly in their claims. And I haven't seen anything significantly to change on Kappa Alpha Theta. Not sure what Pi Beta Phi national meant there. So as ColinFine said, as long as Kappa Alpha Theta's claims use "Greek Letter", they seem OK...Naraht (talk) 20:10, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Mark Damazer

[edit]

Apologies - I have tried to edit my entry - Mark Damazer - but am getting a red type error note . I have never done this before ...Could you advise ? Best — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mark Damazer (talkcontribs) 20:38, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I have fixed the error and added a reference. We would very much like to keep the article accurate, but you might want to avoid editing an article about yourself directly (see WP:COI). -- zzuuzz (talk) 20:58, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Unfortunately your edits have been reverted as they placed external links in the text. If you were intending to place references, you should place them between ref tags thus <ref>'ref content'</ref>. However please do not place 'bare URLs'; you need to use one of the templates found at WP:CITET, completing as many fields as possible. Furthermore you should not be editing any pages with which you have a connection. Please see WP:COI for more information. You should really place requests for edits to be made at the article talk-page and always include a reliable source. Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 21:03, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
In the meantime zzuuzz has reinstated & formatted the references. Eagleash (talk) 21:06, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Splitting: should important content be duplicated in both pages?

[edit]
Resolved

I'm currently working on Studio Ghibli and I'm looking at splitting the works section into List of Studio Ghibli works. Disregard the fact that most of it is unreferenced cruft. I assume that most readers would only want to see the list of feature films, so I would leave it there. Should I then duplicate that list into the new article? It would be weird to have List of Studio Ghibli works without the feature films, but I also want that list on the main article. Isa (talk) 20:56, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Probably have some listed in the main article, with the complete list in the new article. See Miramax#Filmography for an example, and look at other studios also. RudolfRed (talk) 23:53, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@RudolfRed: Most of the other studios have crap lists with no dedicated list pages. I guess I'll just copy the table verbatim from Studio Ghibli#Feature_films and put it in the secondary page. Isa (talk) 02:29, 6 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Marking resolved. I'm watching both Ghibli talk pages if there's a problem. Isa (talk) 02:44, 6 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Should the words "the hon." be in bold - I am not sure. Please fix if needed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Srbernadette (talkcontribs) 22:37, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I've created a draft for Superstition Meadery and need an editor to review for a move to (article): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Superstition_Meadery — Preceding unsigned comment added by Devinejp (talkcontribs) 22:41, 5 December 2016 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Maineartists (talkcontribs) [reply]

Are you editing with two different accounts? There's something odd going on with the page you mentioned. Aside from it having already been moved to mainspace, the only editor of the page is Devinejp. Anyway, it does not seem to currently be in appropriate shape, so it would probably be a good idea to return it to draftspace or userfy it. Dustin (talk) 22:53, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
There seems to be an anomaly caused when Maineartists moved a separate post to another section (?)... and sinebot getting confused, see the page history. Eagleash (talk) 23:03, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Eagleash: I somehow didn't notice that there were two Sinebot-added autosignatures above. Thank you for pointing out the problem. Dustin (talk) 23:32, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Entirely my fault, Eagleash & Dustin  I mistook the second post as a different user. Revert back to before my edit. Thanks. (and my apologies again). Maineartists (talk) 23:34, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The proximate cause was Srbernadette not signing their post so when it was moved sinebot got confused. Eagleash (talk) 23:43, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
