If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on "capel manor house" requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Removing Speedy at "capel manor house"

[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for taking the time to contribute.

I'm a bot designed by another Wikipedia editor, and I'm here to help you with our deletion process. I noticed that while working on an article recently, you removed a speedy deletion template that tagged it for deletion. Don't get discouraged! Deletion discussions happen on Wikipedia all the time.

If you don't want the article to get deleted, please click here.

The link will take you to the talk page, where you can explain why the article should be kept. If you have any questions about this or need help with editing, you can ask at the Help desk.

We really hope you'll stick around to help make Wikipedia better! Thank you, - SDPatrolBot (talk) 22:12, 10 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself, as you did with "capel manor house". If you believe the page should not be deleted, you may contest the deletion by clicking on the button that says: Click here to contest this speedy deletion, which appears inside the speedy deletion notice. This will allow you to make your case on the article's talk page. Administrators will consider your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. - SDPatrolBot (talk) 22:16, 10 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Quick mini-survey about your editing experience

[edit]

Hi Gyles82,

You are one of a number of users who recently received a message from SDPatrolBot. I'm curious to hear about your experience with the speedy deletion process and how you feel about the message you received. Specifically, I'd like to know...

  1. Was the message clearly written?
  2. Was it helpful in communicating what you should do to save your article from getting deleted?
  3. Are there any changes you'd like to see made to such messages in the future that you think might make them more effective for new users?
  4. Any other observations you'd like to make about contesting a speedy deletion? How did you find the process overall?

If you'd prefer not to answer in a public space, you can feel free to email me your response (mpinchuk@wikimedia.org), and I'll be sure to keep it private unless you indicate otherwise. Your observations and suggestions are really valuable for helping improve the new editor experience on Wikipedia, so any feedback you can give would be appreciated immensely! File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:House from front autumn reds.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.

If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.

Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 19:16, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia cannot accept material copied from elsewhere without a formal copyright release. Assertion of permission to use material is not enough.
Also, even if the copyright issue were resolved, the promotional tone of a company or personal website is likely to be quite unsuitable for an encyclopedia article, which requires a neutral point of view. Wikipedia is not a noticeboard for the display of publicity material written for other purposes.
Article subjects need to have notability, which is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." There is more detail at WP:Notability (people), and good advice on how to write an acceptable article at WP:Your first article. JohnCD (talk) 19:08, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Helaine Blumenfeld, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Abstract (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

File permission problem with File:Remy Blumenfeld, London, 2011.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Remy Blumenfeld, London, 2011.jpg, which you've sourced to www.facebook.com. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:38, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from MadmanBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Jared blumenfeld, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://ejleadershipsummit.org/program.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.) Notification of automated file description generation

[edit]

Your upload of File:Capel manor house, south east elevation.jpg or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for violating copyright policy by copying text or images into Wikipedia from another source without verifying permission. You have been previously warned that this is against policy, but have persisted.

Please take this opportunity to be sure you understand our copyright policy and our policies regarding how to use non-free content. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may request an unblock by first reading the guide to appealing blocks, then adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  MER-C 12:56, 19 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

{{unblock|1=I understand the reason why I was blocked: Although I did correctly attribute the text on Dadie Rylands, I used too much of the source material. This was because there were no other sources on this important C20th figure. However, I have learned from my mistake and I will not make this mistake again. I would like to be permitted to contribute to Wikipedia.}}Gyles82 (talk) 17:01, 4 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I could be wrong, but I don't think you quite understand the copyright problem. In academia, the use of large quotations appears to be OK. Here, it isn't. Direct quotes must be very short, and clearly marked as quotes. They are best avoided altogether unless there is a need to use the particular wording. Sources are for linking to, so that readers can verify information posted here. They are not to be quoted wholesale, even if attributed to the source. This is because of Wikipedia's licensing under CC-BY-SA 3.0 and the GFDL for reuse by anyone anywhere. Text that is not licensed this way should be not be imported into articles, and even close paraphrasing is best avoided. Peridon (talk) 20:18, 4 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

{{unblock|1=You are not wrong. I did not fully understand this copyright problem until now. However, I assure you that, thanks to this incident, for which I take full responsibility, I do now understand the problem. I will not quote wholesale in future.
