Not just you, I think you'd find that most feel like this. I reckon I can speak for at least 10 others, some of whom are on the Sinatra thread, who've drastically changed the way in which they contribute to Wikipedia, based upon the bullying, troll-like behaviour of others, some of whom you are seeing on the Sinatra talk page. Uğur Şahin nationality

Hey AngryHarpy, thanks for your edits on Uğur Şahin - his nationality seems to be turning into a bit of an edit war. I've posted a thread on the talk page and it'd be good to get some discussion going (if even necessary - the guidelines on the topic seem clear to me but I'm open to being wrong). --Tserton (talk) 11:57, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

Hi Tserton, thanks for telling me. I'd actually already seen your message on the talk page and only reverted the IPs in anticipation of a consensus from that. Other than that, I've really got no horse in this race and concur with your reasoning. AngryHarpytalk 12:02, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

You need to understand that you can't simply remove a section without offering an explanation aside from claiming a lack of reliability in the sources like that, you have to be more detailed and seek a consensus on the article's talk page first! As it stands, your disruptive editing will most likely net you a temporary block in the near future. AngryHarpytalk 06:46, 12 November 2020 (UTC)

Hi, just to be clear: I didn't revert your edit based on any concrete gripes with your argument, whatever it may be, I reverted it because it cluttered up the prose. If you have any issues with this paragraph in specific, the right place to take them would be the article's talk page. You can't simply insert random commentary into the text and expect to not be reverted, you aren't grading an essay here. AngryHarpytalk 13:30, 14 November 2020 (UTC)

An Issue

I have recently reverted an edit AND disabled a reference on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:History/Ed_Du_Bois_III as there was a report stating that the link from Reference 6 led to a p#rn site and as such, I request that the reference stays down until the report is solved. I cannot check the report due to me being at work. I am just warning you so you don't end up reverting it. Damien Swann (talk) 11:35, 25 November 2020 (UTC) Damien Swann (talk) 11:37, 25 November 2020 (UTC)

Hi Damien, that's quite alright, your edit summary should be sufficient to prevent any premature reverts in cases like this. I also just bit the bullet for you and clicked the link, for me it simply leads to a blank page. For the future, it would be better if you commented out references like this, as your current method simply breaks the ref tag and inserts the text into the prose, arguably making it more visible than before. Cheers! AngryHarpytalk 11:45, 25 November 2020 (UTC)

Hi, correction: I only reverted your first edit, the second reversion was done by User:Materialscientist. It's quite possible that either one or both of us have made an error in judgment, but a new user rapidly changing and editing the contents of a page will always rouse suspicion, even if you're acting in good faith (which I assume you are). I see that your most recent edit to this page was reverted by an anti-vandalism bot which is usually pretty good at detecting bad edits, so I'd advise you to just take a step back at this time in order to familiarize yourself some more with the the rules on here—I've left you a welcome message on your talk page that should help with this. Good day! AngryHarpytalk 10:00, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

I was told the edit I made was not neutral

When in matter of fact the only reason I had made any edits on this article is because they were not neutral. There is exactly 0 lyrics where Tom Macdonald speaks about being anti gay or a white nationalist, not to mention the whole section about his "Corona Virus Song" is made explicitly to paint him in a bad light and uses citations that arent even linked properly. One of them is literally just a website that lets you listen to the Quaran....The other one is a blogger from Dallas with a Twitter following of 50 and a web page that could be better made by a 3 year old, therefore not only is his opinion null and not to be stated as a fact, but his article doesn't even mention the part where Tom would have "... received criticism for factual inaccuracies, misleading verses, and weak analysis**. There are no factual inaccuracies or misleading verses being discussed in the aforementioned article, the only claim the professional blogger makes about Tom Macdonald is that he uses some pseudo science in it, while not even willing to mention one thing in the song that would prompt him to think that way. Therefore just slander and/or subjective opinion of someone who is not an expert or even intermediate on the manner. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:569:7E47:1200:79D9:7FB3:8B:EF7 (talk) 11:14, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi, while it may well be that this article is not without issues itself, you can hardly expect edits calling anyone a "pathetic parasite" to be deemed acceptable by anyone. Please rephrase your concerns in a more orderly manner (like you did right here, more or less) and take them to the article's talk page. AngryHarpytalk 11:19, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

False and misleading information on the Mai Kadra massacre

Dear Sir Madam,

I come across that you are involved in writing and editing the story of Mai Kadra massacre. I appreciate your effort to reach the world this historical and unforgettable tragedy. I am concerned that the information from some of the international media are truthful and legitimate. It seems that you don't have deeper knowledge what was happened and what was going on in the country. To understand this and figure out the right information, it is critical to understand the situation from the complexity perspective of the country and even it is important to have at least 30 years back history of the country. Unfortunately, most of the international media become victims (knowingly and/or unknowingly) of the strategic and systematic propaganda of the TPLF and its fabricated information. So it is important to differentiate between the fact and fake news (false information). The amnesty international and the independent Ethiopian human right commission have investigated the situation from the place and provided documents (reports) to the world, so I think, it is better to consider those information as source and to get the fact what happened in Mai Kadra. The TPLF had systematically deployed its supporters to Sudan and some of the so called "Samri" youth group who conducted this barbaric massacre had fled to Sudan, after the defeat of the TPLF loyal force by the Ethiopian army. These groups joined refuges camp in Sudan and disseminated false information to the international media and that is why I said above, it is critical to have a deeper knowledge of the country and its history, at least the last 30 years. By the way if you are able to find pictures taken from the refuge camp, some groups were hiding their faces with dishes. And BBC has also figured out some of the fake news by TPLF (https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-54985545)

I hope that you will figure out the right information and perhaps you get to know the systematic strategy of TPLF, how it manipulates the international media.

Brett Toth

Hi, you deleted my changed about Brett Toth ascending. The Toth surname is one of the most common surname in Hungary, and I'm his second cousins Tóth Máté. My and his great-grandfather is the same person. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:4C4E:181B:8A00:94E5:368B:151C:A8B8 (talk) 12:11, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

I see. To be frank, I also reverted this change in particular because the English was pretty dodgy—a better way of phrasing this statement would be "He is of Hungarian descent, as his great-grandfather was born in Hungary"—but you'll still have to find a reliable source to back this up, even though I don't doubt the truthfulness of this claim. Linking to List of Hungarian Americans won't be sufficient, even more so since this article doesn't mention Brett at all, but if you can find something better, feel free to add it back. Celine Dion "queen of power ballads"

Celine Dion is the queen of power ballads, she has been dubbed like that, she's known for that nickname too, why did you removed it from her Wikipedia? I put reliable and important sources Moonlight Entm (talk) 22:43, 7 January 2021 (UTC)

Moonlight Entm I explained my reasons for reverting in the edit summary right here, but I'll gladly do so again and in more detail. Firstly, the Daily Mail is not, in fact, a reliable source, as it was actually the very first publication to be deprecated at WP:DEPS (your other source is fine, though). Secondly, I don't think it's necessary to add this information to the lede paragraph, especially since a similar informal title ("Queen of Adult Contemporary") is already mentioned there. I'd recommend you instead find a place for this sentence in the Cultural impact section, which already has a paragraph of various publications declaring her to be the "Queen of" various things. Have a nice day, and thanks for following WP:BRD! AngryHarpytalk 06:26, 8 January 2021 (UTC)

Well Daily Mail is a famous newspaper in the U.K., but since it's her main title it should be there and not "Queen Of Contemporary" cause Celine is hugely known as "The Queen Of Power Ballads" first, however I don't consider daily mail as an a unreliable source, however i totally get your point Moonlight Entm (talk) 00:50, 9 January 2021 (UTC)

Vin Diesel page

It is wrong to publish his signature. Fraud is a real thing! 8allgreat (talk) 13:08, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

8allgreat – I assume you're complaining here because I'm currently the most recent editor of Vin Diesel, but I don't really have a horse in this race. It is true that the inclusion of signatures, especially those of living persons, is a bit of a contentious topic, see for example the essay Wikipedia:Signatures of living persons, though I would assume that Vin Diesel has given thousands, if not tens of thousands of autographs during his career, rendering any arguments of fraud and breaches of privacy moot. Do feel free to raise the issue again on the article's talk page at Talk:Vin Diesel, though. AngryHarpytalk 13:55, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

Unfortunately, best course of action would be just to wait for an admin to block him rather than continuously revert his edits. Just a waste of time for now.

Well for the most part they've edited each article only once and seem to have stopped for now anyway, so where's the harm in reverting? AngryHarpytalk 09:07, 17 February 2021 (UTC)

Default Sort

Hi! :) FYI: I undid a couple of your edits [1] [2]. IMHO one is wrong, the other's useless. However, thank you for all your other efforts -- in the beginning, we've been neglecting the defaultsort template in bios. 凰兰时罗 (talk) 15:55, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

凰兰时罗, oh yes absolutely, how embarrassing – that ship must've slipped through the cracks, and with the other one you'll have noticed that I was just trying to undo my own screw-up, but it certainly can be removed altogether. I do try to keep my errors to an absolute minimum, but at the end of the day we're all human ;)
I did notice a pretty significant number of biographies with no proper sort key recently and intend to keep going after the newly created ones via the link on my User page even after I get tired of doing more than a hundred of them per day. I wonder if there'd be a more effective way of making people aware of the feature, as I see even editors considerably more seasoned than myself forget them from time to time. AngryHarpytalk 16:38, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
Well, when you kindly add these templates to people's articles they become aware :), so all is good. (that's how I became aware at some point :))) )凰兰时罗 (talk) 17:57, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

Elias Lieberman (labor lawyer)

AngryHarpy: May I ask a quick technical question? Since there is already an entry for Elias Lieberman the poet (contemporary, too), does it work to have two entries with the same "default sort" – or do the categories below or some other mechanism keep the two identities separate? Sincerely - Aboudaqn (talk) 19:24, 13 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Aboudaqn, you absolutely may! I generally follow the advice laid out in WP:NAMESORT, where it is stated that The sort key should mirror the article's title as closely as possible, while omitting disambiguating terms. This page also mentions exceptions to this rule to force correct collation, though I am frankly not sure what exactly this is in reference of. It may have something to do with doubly disambiguated article titles – for example, XYZ (footballer, born 1992) and XYZ (footballer, born 1997) – but yes, I'm actually not so sure myself, so I actually have to thank you for bringing this to my attention.
In this case, however, things are a little easier. As both the poet and the labor lawyer have passed away in 1969, we coincidentally wind up with a perfect example of what actually happens in a case like this, that being category sorting defaulting to the article title as a secondary key. If you check right here, you'll see that despite the fact that they share a sort key, they are still in the correct order. Hope this answered your question! AngryHarpytalk 19:47, 13 March 2021 (UTC)
Most enthusiastic, polite, clear-spoken, knowledgeable Wikipedian I've come across since I started: thank you! Apparently, you are anything but an angry harpy!  ;) - Aboudaqn (talk) 03:20, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

Possible Vandalism

Whilst monitering Recent Changes, i encountered a change that i am unsure of. here is the link (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:MobileDiff/1013559614) and please tell me if you think its vandalism or not DamienSwanntalk 09:09, 22 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Damien Swann, I don't see any major issues with this edit – all the IP did was swap one infobox template for another while preserving (as far as I have checked) all contained information. The only questionable part is adding the parenthetical disambiguation to the sortkey ({{DEFAULTSORT}}), which WP:NAMESORT doesn't recommend, but that's a minor complaint at best.
Be aware that you absolutely shouldn't go around and accuse people of vandalism willy-nilly, as WP:VANDAL lays out some very strict criteria for what that term can actually refer to. AngryHarpytalk 09:21, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
I understand this and i came to you as i wasnt sure, i did not want to revert a legitimate change mistaking it for vandalism DamienSwanntalk 09:09, 22 March 2021 (UTC)

The disambiguation page

Hello AngryHarpy, Can you tell me how to edit and add "Wu Jianmin (democracy activist)" to "the disambiguation page" ? Thank you. --Jujiang (talk) 11:56, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Jujiang, I certainly could, but there doesn't appear to be a disambiguation page for Wu Jianmin – the primary article Wu Jianmin is about a Chinese diplomat, and Wu Jianmin (disambiguation) doesn't exist and would be unnecessary, as Wu Jianmin (democracy activist) is the only other article about an individual with this name that we have on here. The link you included in your post only leads to Wu Jianmin (diplomat), which is a redirect, not a disambiguation page.
I've gone ahead and added your article to the hatnote on Wu Jianmin here, hopefully that's in line with what you were trying to accomplish. AngryHarpytalk 12:07, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for your advice and editing. I mean how to edit or create a disambiguation page about "Wu Jianmin" like "Wang Dan"? Thanks. --Jujiang (talk) 12:22, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
Jujiang, that would be quite simple – you've evidently already worked out how to create new pages, so you would simply navigate to Wu Jianmin (disambiguation) and create it there by, for example, using the source of Wang Dan as a template. However, I must reiterate that a disambiguation page is really not necessary in this case, as there are only two articles on people called Wu Jianmin on this project. I would personally advise against creating it. AngryHarpytalk 12:29, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
I see. Thank you a lot, AngryHarpy. --Jujiang (talk) 12:35, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

Joyce Greer and Ignaz Friedman

You state in your post about Joyce Greer that she and her husband went to New York and she studied with Ignaz Friedman. Friedman was in Australia at this time so she couldn't have studied with him in New York — Preceding unsigned comment added by 49.197.159.96 (talk) 00:22, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi, I've taken the liberty to copy this message over to Talk:Joyce Greer de Holesch. I'd assume you're right since Friedman did play his last concert in Sydney in '43 and died there in '48, but I'm not an expert on the matter. AngryHarpytalk 04:31, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

Sorting medieval names

I see you've been doing good work adding some missing DEFAULTSORTS. However, can I just alert you to the fact that medieval names are always sorted on the given name when the second part is a geographical origin. The Chaucer in Geoffrey Chaucer is a genuine surname, but Geoffrey of Monmouth, Chrétien de Troyes, Dietmar von Aist all need to be sorted on the first element — the second part is not a family name (and need not be permanent). Have a look at the list of Minnesingers, for example.--Pfold (talk) 10:39, 12 April 2021 (UTC)

Pfold, oh derp, I did originally know this, but it seems to have temporarily escaped my headspace here. Thanks for the correction! AngryHarpytalk 10:42, 12 April 2021 (UTC)

Eva article

Allow me to tell you more or less privately that I've been informed by friends that several fan factions are attempting to use WP's articles for a waifu war. We had to block the articles on the fan wiki for a while, and to a degree it happens periodically. I'm not in this particular dispute, though, but I know they don't want to talk it out as the ones inserting "former"it are from a particularly militant grouping. These accounts were also mostly created to fight for it (and they have openly discussed it on a certain imageboard). I'd rather not get pinged. FelipeFritschF (talk) 05:42, 14 April 2021 (UTC)

FelipeFritschF, oh for crying out loud, are we still doing this in 2021? Sounds like a WP:RFPP is about to be in order, but I'll wait for their reaction to my proposal first. Thanks for the info. AngryHarpytalk 05:48, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
There are arguments to be made that she isn't being entirely truthful considering the rest of the film (tsundere, after all) and more than one of her VA's recent comments reinforce this, etc. I'd rather it just be neutral, but I know the "former" camp isn't acting in good faith, but rather to troll. *edit, I switched them out. "former" wasn't in the original edits, they are putting it in. FelipeFritschF (talk) 05:51, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
Got it. Whatever's the most appropriately neutral option works for me. AngryHarpytalk 05:57, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
Also, if you've got the time, can you take a look at a dispute I've mentioned on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Anime and manga? It's been going on for a while and after many other months of a couple hundred productive edits in the other edit article I don't like that things are at an inpasse now. There's a copyedit probably happening very soon, too. I've asked some editors inside and outside but considering the quite large talk page and esoteric knowledge required they don't necessarily want to get involved even though they agreed. I have a somewhat short summary of the situation there, regardless. For that matter, I'll try to get the other Eva movie articles into better shape in the future, as that's stuff I've known for years but isn't in concentrated in any wiki. Thanks anyway. FelipeFritschF (talk) 06:14, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
FelipeFritschF, well if you want my opinion, the reason you didn't receive any answers from the WikiProject probably comes down to your post not making it immediately obvious what kind of feedback you're asking for, apart from general statements of affirmation. I'm inclined to agree with what Smeagol 17 said on their talk page; from the perspective of a middlingly knowledgeable onlooker, you do look like the more reasonable party here, and a more formal venue like WP:DRN might be worth a shot [EDIT: Just noticed you said that you already tried that]. Needless to say this is a tricky situation, but if you can conclusively and concisely prove to someone who is completely unfamiliar with the overall topic that certain statements are in fact only supported by fancruft, you should be able to find support. Sorry I couldn't come up with something more original to say. AngryHarpytalk 07:59, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
Well, thanks for reply. I'm still not sure how to go about it, unfortunately the talk page is massive enough as it is so anyone that takes a look at it, even if it's just my later summary, feels understandably intimidated.FelipeFritschF (talk) 22:02, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
FelipeFritschF, I'm gonna be honest, unless someone seriously oversteps their bounds with conduct that's sanctionable under a more general rule, you two are probably going to be left to figure this out on your own. Esoteric is a good word for this – I consider Eva to be one of my all-time favourite things, and I can't truthfully bring myself to really care about this, imagine how it would be for a complete outsider. AngryHarpytalk 04:46, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
sigh Well, do you think my little list in section break 2 is concise enough or should I make it shorter? I asked at WP:3O as well, but if you or someone else you know of could quickly chip-in that'd be good. FelipeFritschF (talk) 02:42, 18 April 2021 (UTC)

Trying to edit Wiki entry for Sri Lanka Basketball Federation (SLBF)

Hi Angry.. thank you so much for watching out for the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sri_Lanka_men's_national_basketball_team page and reverting my edits.

I am working with the Sri Lanka Basketball Federation (SLBF), to begin with, we would like to change the title of the page to "Sri Lanka Basketball Federation (SLBF)" and then move on to high quality page. We are looking to revamp our entire online presence.

I am new to editing Wikipedia, but I am generally ok with HTML and a bit of PHP and so on... so I should be able to catch on quickly, if you would be so kind as to guide me to some helpful YouTube tutorials.

Thanks much! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikicon1975 (talkcontribs) 14:16, 19 April 2021 (UTC)

Wikicon1975, well first of all, Wikipedia is not the place for any organization to "revamp their online presence", no matter the intent. I'm sure the SLBF has their own website, and that's exactly where any marketing or publicity campaign is going to stay. A move of the article above to any other title would also be immediately reverted, so I'm not going to tell you how to do it.
You have done the right thing by informally disclosing your conflict of interest, but you would still be very well advised to read through WP:COI. As far as the creation of an article for the SLBF is concerned, that may well be in the cards – however, you will have to go through the Articles for creation process, where your work will be closely examined for compliance with key Wikipedia policies, such as neutrality and verifiability.
For any other questions you may have, I recommend the Teahouse. AngryHarpytalk 14:53, 19 April 2021 (UTC)

Lucario298, Sr Pelo

Thank you so much! I have a question. Would Fandom be a reliable source? Muchos gracias! Yo tengo una pregunta. Es Fandom fidedigno? Lucario298 (talk) 20:25, 6 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi Lucario298, unfortunately not. Fandom, much like Wikipedia, is a project consisting entirely of user-generated content and won't be accepted as a reliable source; see also WP:FANDOM. You can still use Fandom pages like this one as a starting point for finding real sources, but as a fair warning, I don't think it's too likely that you'll get an article on Sr Pelo to a point where it will be allowed to stay published here – in a quick search, the most recent somewhat legitimate mention of him I could find was in reference to some minor 2019 Twitter drama. If you want to keep developing the draft, however, I encourage you to take it through the Articles for creation process. I have just re-added the AfC template to the draft to help you to do so. Have a nice day! AngryHarpytalk 04:46, 7 May 2021 (UTC)

Cerberon-900, if you feel like it's ready for mainspace, you're free to just move it there yourself! However, you should be aware that Russia Today is not considered a reliable source on this project per WP:RSP, so if you can, you might want to replace that one with something else. Ramón Mercader

Hello AngryHarpy. There has been recent controversy at Ramón Mercader about some factual claims, in particular about the status of his Order of Lenin award and about his relationship to María Mercader. I noticed you recently created the article on Caridad Mercader and thought you might be better equipped to evaluate these claims than me. Feel free to take a look if you have the time. Rublov (talk) 12:55, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi Rublov, that's an understandable assumption, but to be perfectly honest, I only saw her redlink and more or less spontaneously decided to give her an article based on the lead of the Spanish GA + appropriate sourcing back then, but unfortunately I'm not an expert by any means. You might have noticed that the same editor you've been engaged with at Ramón's has also taken to expanding Caridad's article in a questionable way (unsourced, unlinked, ungrammatical) and was recently reverted by another editor here.
I will go ahead and revert their recent edits to Ramón, as none of them offer any justification, let alone source, safe for their very brief comment on Talk where they claimed that the Italian Wikipedia supports some change they made, which you definitely don't need me to tell you is insufficient. AngryHarpytalk 14:16, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
Also hot damn, that log you're keeping is almost Hammersoftesque! :D AngryHarpytalk 14:23, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for weighing in on Ramón Mercader‎, although I fear that our counsel has not been well received. I'll take one last stab at constructive dialogue later today. And yes, my log was partially inspired by Hammersoft's example. I like being able to look back and account for all the time that I've spent editing Wikipedia. Rublov (talk) 18:40, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi AngryHarpy, Just wanted to thank you for all of your work on my articles! T. E. Meeks (talk) 11:53, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

T. E. Meeks, you're entirely welcome! I assume you're referring to my adding default sort keys to your new articles, that's actually something I do for all new biographies that still lack them (well, at least for those where I feel confident enough to make that call) as it's a very small thing many people tend to simply forget while in the midst of actual content creation. So I'd like to get right back atcha and say thank you for your awesome work! AngryHarpytalk 12:04, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
Should I be adding default sort keys to my articles when I write them? Is there some guidance about how to do this? I don't really understand them. T. E. Meeks (talk) 00:59, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
T. E. Meeks, it's really quite easy, especially if you're mainly sticking to modern-era English people. You can find the relevant guideline at WP:NAMESORT. AngryHarpytalk 06:48, 14 May 2021 (UTC)

How can my articles get more popular?

How do articles get popular because I dont know how to make my articles intresting Please do help me JessyScience (talk) 06:40, 27 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi JessyScience, I will admit that this is a somewhat unusual question. Popularity plays no role in whether an article is of high or low quality, and likewise, editing on Wikipedia itself does not enroll you in any popularity contest. But you've done a good thing by asking about things you don't yet understand, rather than just editing away and potentially getting yourself into trouble. Generally speaking, Wikipedia can be a very unapproachable platform for newcomers like yourself, as there are many – mostly written, occasionally unwritten – rules that you can't possibly be aware of at this point.
I recommend that before you start looking at how to create your first article, you go through The Wikipedia Adventure, which you can access by clicking this link. The Wikipedia Adventure is a beginner-friendly way of introducing you to the basics of our project and will help you get your bearings and find things to do around here. Hope I could help you! Abraham Rajchmann Merging References

Hi @AngryHarpy: You need to be more careful when you work with references. Just diving in and looking at them, without actually reading them, is not the way. scope_creepTalk 10:13, 3 June 2021 (UTC)

Scope creep, huh indeed, I should've noticed the different page numbers. Guess I've seen too many duplicated webcites from new editors recently, so I'll chalk it up to operational blindness, sorry.
But besides that, I think {{sfn}}-tags would be the superior choice here, no? But I'll leave it to your discretion. AngryHarpytalk 10:22, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
You do a mountain of those default sorts which is a good work. I didn't think it was anything else. No. Sfn are a pain in the jacksy. They're is no support in the environment for them and they must be done manually, all checked manually, which is a pain in the neck. I did try the sfn thing for several big articles a wee while ago, but the work is hard going and this won't be a big article. Now if there was a script that I could run at the end that convert the refs, that would be really cool. scope_creepTalk 10:35, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
Fair enough, I have always found them to be perfectly usable myself, if a little cumbersome, but you're right in that it matters very little in short articles. Take care! AngryHarpytalk 10:43, 3 June 2021 (UTC)

Hello, I would like to create a brand. I recently created one but I receive an deletion notification. Need a guide on how to do it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Klausseekme (talkcontribs) 10:44, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

Hello Klausseekme, Wikipedia is neither the place to promote your business nor to "create a brand", which is why I tagged your sandbox for deletion. If you think that this impression was due to a fixable error in communication, you may refer to Help:Your first article for a guide, as well as the Articles for creation-process. Be aware that any article you create that does not fulfill our requirements on notability and verifiability will be rejected. AngryHarpytalk 09:54, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
Klausseekme, I should also note that if you have a conflict of interest and / or are being paid to make edits, you must disclose this. I noticed that you already tried asking a few other editors at their talk pages without receiving an answer, which I realize must be frustrating. For future reference, giving you the benefit of the doubt and assuming that you really are here not just to promote a business, the Teahouse would be a better place to ask, as it is frequented by a large number of experienced editors. Default Sort

Hello again! I've been trying to add the DEFAULT SORT to my articles and it was somehow deleting the reference list. Although the ref list showed up on my computer when I looked at the article, other people commented that it was missing. Do you have any idea what I was doing wrong? I stopped adding the DEFAULT SORT to avoid this problem, but I feel bad leaving it for other people to do. Thanks! T. E. Meeks (talk) 11:54, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

Hi T. E. Meeks, could you please link to an example / an article where people noticed this happening? AngryHarpytalk 11:58, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
T. E. Meeks, nevermind, found it in your contribs – Alexandra Thomson. What happened here must be incredibly confusing to a new-ish editor, and it's also slightly comical, so I'll try to explain. First, UnaToFiAN-1 added the {{References}}-template to the article in this edit. Now, unfortunately for them, {{References}} isn't the template that's used to produce a list of references, it's a maintenance template that you usually place at the top of an article to indicate an issue with it (in this case there not being any references). You understandably took this to indicate that they did not see any references and removed the DEFAULTSORT tag as a possible cause. UnaToFiAN-1 eventually came back to replace the original template with the correct one – {{Reflist}} – leading you to believe that, indeed, DEFAULTSORT must have been the problem all along. By and large just a series of unfortunate events.
So, to clear up the confusion: No, the DEFAULTSORT tag didn't cause your references to disappear, the other editor simply used an incorrect template. What you can do in the future is place the {{Reflist}} template directly below the References section header yourself. Per default, footnotes appear at the bottom of the page even if you don't put the template there; however, this template allows you to actually control their placement. If there is anything you do want to place below your list of references, for example an External links section, just put it below the template.
Hope I didn't get too lengthy on you here, but I do feel like an unusual misunderstanding requires an unusually comprehensive explanation. Take care! AngryHarpytalk 17:05, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
Thanks! One more question: so exactly where would DEFAULTSORT go? I have never used {{Reflist}}. I just cited the footnotes in the article and they appeared at the bottom. Do I add DEFAULTSORT after {{Reflist}}?
T. E. Meeks (talk) 18:22, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
T. E. Meeks It goes above the categories and below everything else, including the reflist. AngryHarpytalk 18:24, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
Thanks, you've been very helpful.

Kim Polese edits

Hi AngryHarpy, Thanks so much for reviewing and copyediting the updates/edits I made on the Kim Polese page. There are a few places where you either reverted the copy back to what it was before my edit, or erased it. I'd like to request that some of my edits be reinstated because they are correct and what is published now is incorrect. Below are the specifics:

1 My edit is this: . ...CrowdSmart, Inc., a company that helps organizations reduce risk and make better decisions by combining the best of human and artificial intelligence in an AI-enabled collective intelligence platform.

1 You reverted the copy to reflect the earlier descriptor -- a technology-based seed stage investment company. However, CrowdSmart is no longer a seed-stage investment company. The business model is a software products company -- an AI-based SaaS platform for decision making for new initiatives of all kinds.

1.Here are 2 links -- to LinkedIn and the CrowdSmart website - wwww.crowdsmart.ai that will confirm the facts:

CrowdSmart LinkedIn page

CrowdSmart website

_________________________________ 2. You put back the copy about ClearStreet, Inc., which is incorrect. -- Polese is also Chairwoman of ClearStreet Inc., a company whose products and tools help employers and their employees reduce their healthcare spend.

2.In truth, she left ClearStreet in 2015. Source is Ms. Polese's personal LinkedIn page - https://www.linkedin.com/in/kimpolese/ ___________________________________ 3. I recommend adding the following sentence regarding current possitons below as a sentence between CrowdSmart and ClearStreet:

Polese serves on the board of the Long-term Stock Exchange and is an adjunct facility member at the University of California. Here is a link to the Long-term Stock Exchange website and its list of current board members: https://ltse.com/blog/long-term-stock-exchange-announces-board-of-directors/

__________________________________ Finally, I am confused as to why inclusion of section below -- Polese's inclusion in the 2018 documentary, Silicon Valley: The Untold Story. I recommend its inclusion because it is a fact-based, well-known film about the early days of the Silicon Valley tech boom. Ms Polese was a major force in CA who pushed forward emerging technologies that are everywhere today.

In 2018, Polese was featured in the documentary, Silicon Valley: The Untold Story. ]

Thanks for your consideration and please let me know if you have any questions. Best Lisa Lisasheeran (talk) 22:54, 23 July 2021 (UTC)

Hi Lisasheeran, thanks for reaching out. Normally, the best place to discuss this would be at Talk:Kim Polese, so I have left a brief note there in case anyone else wants to weigh in (though I honestly don't expect it). I've also left a template message on your own talk page regarding your conflict of interest with this article and how to properly declare it.
As for your proposed changes, I think they're all reasonable and have implemented them. The sources aren't all great – company pages fall under WP:PRIMARY, and IMDb is user-generated, so I found a news article that confirms her inclusion and inserted it as a reference instead. LinkedIn (per WP:LINKEDIN) is also usable for the verification of career details. So, while some more independent coverage would be nice, I don't have any major concerns within the context of the information in this article. I didn't use your proposed description of CrowdSmart Inc. as a company that helps organizations reduce risk and make better decisions by combining the best of human and artificial intelligence in an AI-enabled collective intelligence platform because it goes a tad too far in terms of sounding like promo-fluff (if you're interested, WP:PUFFERY gives a pretty good overview on some kinds of commonly used phrases that should be avoided), but other than that, I think I've covered it all. Please let me know if you have any questions, and have a nice day! AngryHarpytalk 09:12, 24 July 2021 (UTC)

Hi there, the statement about Lara Johnson-Wheeler having studied at Bedales does have an appropriate reference – this link right here – so I don't have a reason to doubt that she actually went there. It's perfectly possible that she went to a City of London School for Girls at some point as well, but you'll have to find a reference for that, since we can't add it based on hearsay as per our guidelines. Hi, am a new editor on Wikipedia and I did some edits on E.T Mensah but it git reverted. Please can you tell me things i added that were not needed? And I need an advice on how to go around editing on Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Senogilgamesh (talkcontribs) 12:22, 17 August 2021 (UTC)

Hi Senogilgamesh, I reverted your edits at E. T. Mensah specifically because of a guideline called WP:NOTLYRICS; if you read the paragraph this link leads to, you'll see that a), Quotations from a song should be kept to a reasonable length relative to the rest of the article, and b), Most song lyrics published after 1925 are protected by copyright; any quotation of them must be kept to a minimum. In short, including the complete lyrics of a song in any article is rarely appropriate.
I have left a welcome message on your talk page (User talk:Senogilgamesh); it should provide you with some helpful advice and links. If you have any other, specific questions, you may also ask them here. AngryHarpytalk 11:39, 17 August 2021 (UTC)

Your CSD G13 question

Hello, AngryHarpy,

I was just circling back to Wikipedia talk:Criteria for speedy deletion to see how the discussion regarding CSD G13s was closed and saw your question about the bot that notifies page creators at 5 months that their draft is approaching the six month expiration date.

The answer to why there was a break in these notifications is that the notices were originally posted by User:HasteurBot quite consistently but the bot operator, Hasteur passed away in July 2020 and the policy when that happens is to disable a bot if the bot operator can no longer monitor its work. I started reviewing stale drafts in September 2020 and tried to get a new bot posting these notifications. One editor took on the project initially but he set up an opt-in system which was, frankly, ridiculous as most abandoned drafts are created by new editors who would not know that they needed to sign up to be notified. And this bot creator also stopped editing & disappeared and so my messages and emails got no response. Months past, I approached several editors about these notifications and didn't get very far. In the beginning of 2021, I finally thought to go to Wikipedia:Bot requests and made an appeal there and within a week, Firefly had adapted their bot to send out these announcements. I'm not sure why there was a break in notifications in 2019 because I wasn't involved in this area back then but this is why there were a 9 month period where there was no G13 notifications. I hope this answers your question. Liz Read! Talk! 01:11, 18 August 2021 (UTC)

Hi Liz, that does indeed answer my question, thanks for typing that all out. I didn't know about Hasteur since I only really became active in project space around the time he passed, that's very sad. It looks like we're about as future-proof as any process reliant on individual maintainers can be with Firefly, though. Thanks again for the extremely comprehensive answer! Hi Bogger, nice work! I've taken the liberty of moving it to Dresdner SC (volleyball) per WP:LOWERCASE and, for example, the precedents in Category:Volleyball team stubs. I'll see if I can add a little about non-football teams to the main article myself, when I have the time. AngryHarpytalk 13:04, 22 August 2021 (UTC)
Cool. I've also started disambiguating Dresdner SC wikilinks starting at [3]. It's probably not warranted to create a disambiguation page. -Bogger (talk) 13:11, 22 August 2021 (UTC)

Rollback granted

Hi AngryHarpy, after reviewing your request, I have enabled rollback on your account. Please keep in mind these things when using rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

For some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. You put the wrong picture. If you look at the photo bottom description it is actually Frambakken in Brumunddal. Those are two different hills. Brumundal and Fluberg/Odnes are 40 km apart. Sportomanokin (talk) 09:46, 29 August 2021 (UTC)

Most of the historic Norwegian ski jumping hills are/were located in a relatively "small" area around wider region of Oslo. Many of them close together, only kilometres away from each other. Sportomanokin (talk) 09:52, 29 August 2021 (UTC)
Sportomanokin, huh, thanks for the correction. I got it from no:Odnesbakken and admittedly didn't think to check beyond that. AngryHarpytalk 10:37, 29 August 2021 (UTC)
