I decided to apply your request by removing forced widths in all countries competing at the 2012 Summer Olympics. I changed the table format for decathlon and heptathlon in Athletics. Thanks for your help on my weightlifting question. I wasn't sure that was the right place to ask, and since you seem to know a lot about the Olympics, I was wondering if I could ask you another question, about wrestling (both Greco and freestyle).

The Olympic project talkpage is always a good place to start, even if nobody there knows the answer we can probably point you towards someone who does. "TO" as it's used here for the match between Mkhitar Manukyan and Şeref Eroğlu. I have never seen that on a wrestling page before, where it's almost always supposed to have the amount of points scored. --TheShadowCrow (talk) 02:22, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

  • I have nine more Olympians left. :D I'm trying to set a program up to see if I can't monitor in some way if the Australian media plagiarises the articles during the Olympics. They have a history of doing that. If you're feeling adventerous and wanting to work on content, User:LauraHale/Paralympians is my list of Australian Paralympians I'm wanting to work on. As I'm hoping to get to London with press credentials for this, I'd like to get them all to DYK. Doing good coverage on both the Olympics and Paralympics, and then doing a great job covering it on Wikipedia on the main page DURING the Paralympics while publishing thing on Wikinews DURING the event should make it easier to get higher level media credentials again for more people in the future. --LauraHale (talk) 12:31, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

I've got about 7 left for the female Olympians, which should be blue by tomorrow. (Then a weekend spent reviewing. Saturday, I'm hoping to get another 10 to 30 DYKs reviewed.) I've got a few unreviewed, the main one that's likely to get ignored is Template:Did you know nominations/Annie Lush, Kate MacGregor, Lucy MacGregor. There are a couple of others between the 11th and 13th sections but they are all for single articles so someone should get around to reviewing them without too much problem. Multihook nomination means most reviewers will pass. Advantage is you'd have 10 QPQs done for use as rules allow peeling off each article as its own QPQ. ;)

It's nice to see a range of cronies heading here to put me in my place. If trying to ask a genuine question about a user's edits and getting thinly veiled threats and out right abusive comments in return counts as harassment then I think the community might need to reassess its thinking and suggesting I'd be blocked for this is laughable. Cronies, nice. When you asked it and he removed it, that should have been the end of it. Per WP:BLANKING, a user is allowed to remove something from their talk page and another user is not allowed to readd it. The only exception is vandalism, and that wasn't the case. You continued to readd a post to his talk page in violation of WP:BLANKING to make a point. Yes, you can be blocked for that. You have been given a warning (above) and you have stopped the harrassment, so you won't be going to ANI...for now. Great Britain men's national wheelchair basketball team

If you're writing articles about the Great Britain men's national wheelchair basketball team, there are now pictures of team members. For two of them, there are interviews (which should appear as Wikinews articles soon). Lots of Paralympic articles have no pictures so a few with pictures would be good. :) Related Chinese women, German women and Japan men are also all Paralympic bound. --LauraHale (talk) 22:01, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

I won't go wading in at the DYK nom but I think in this case the family information is valid; noting that her siblings also compete in sports to a high level is encylopaedic. There is a balance to be struck on results; important results, such as win or medal position in any significant race along with Olympic/World Championship qualification and finals, should of course be summarised in prose (possibly in addition to a list/table of lesser results). Personal bests and other minor results can end up looking a bit messy in a short article (not so bad if they're dotted amongst large chunks of text e.g Usain Bolt); on this particular article it might have been better to have them in a list, though I think convention is to have that list in the infobox not in the body of the text (again see Bolt's article) - Basement12 (T.C) 09:35, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

Did not advance on most Olympic events

Basement12, I have a favor. I would like to put template for "did not advance" in most events. I choose "no" template since it depicts elimination of a contestant or an athlete. Is it okay with you? Without color makes me confused. Thank you. Raymarcbadz (talk) 14:20, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

Per WikiProject Olympics guidelines the boxes should not be coloured. Adding the template to grey them out makes it far too easy to confuse with rounds that don't exist for that event; we need it to be clear that the athletes were knocked-out of the competition. Simply putting a centre aligned "Did not advance" is the way to go - Basement12 (T.C) 14:30, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

Simple and plain is exactly the point and why the MOS was drawn up as it is after much discussion on the use of colours; i'm not entirely convinced that using the template for "Bye" is necessary (on a related note there is no need for that to be capitalised as "BYE"). Your bold claims about what sources show

Per this edit summary, "remove suggestion that NI is included in team name. per all International Olympic committee sources this is not the case", I'll ask you again on your own talk page, given your muteness elsewhere, where is the source from the IOC that explicitly states that the name of the team is Great Britain? If you cannot produce the source, then it's pretty clear you are engaging in improper original research, because you're argument boils down to 'look at the sign they carried in the opening ceremony' or 'look at the title on the IOC webpage', which is of course utter intellectual garbage if it contradicts things like the BOA's own explicit statement that Team GB is the Great Britain and Northern Ireland Olympic Team. I've no issue with you using IOC usage as the basis of a Manual of Style for various tables/articles etc, but in the places that specifically talk about the team name, or where the use of the BOA's own terminolology is relevant, but where you've been busily rewriting facts and removing sources you apparently just don't like, this is unnacceptable. I agree the team should by every right be named Great Britain and Northern Ireland but factually speaking it isn't, and that is an issue that will always, rightly, cause debate. Liar. Not one source has been provided that states the official team name is Great Britain. The only way you could argue that's not the case, is if you didn't understand English, which may be the case infact as in those sources given, you even provided a news source that actually supported my position, not yours. I disregarded the previous discussions, as they mostly contain further nonsense of that sort. You can't list any sources, just examples of usage and a whole lot of original research, that's why you don't. And yet here you are, shamelessly arguing that I'm the disruptive one. You're abusing Wikipedia to misinform the world, specifically going against the expressly stated position of the BOA, based on nothing but your own ignorance/arrogance/incompetence. Most Medals by Olympiad

I just spent hours looking for this information, knowing I had seen it on August 1. I understand that the Olympic committee wants to avoid declaring a "winner", but Wikipedia is a place for information. The list of most medals by Olympiad is essential information. Wikipedia lists the medal counts on each individual olympics page; putting the information in one place is nice and convenient. Sorry, I understand that some people may want to see that info but, as for similar requests for e.g. totals of medals won by the EU or a medal table using weighted rankings for medal colours, there is no basis in reliable sources (in particular those from the IOC) for producing such. We have to draw the line somewhere; if this goes in then why not also include the country with the most top ten places? Top twenty? - Basement12 (T.C) 01:20, 6 August 2012 (UTC)

I guess I see your point, but I still think that total medals and total golds is a clear place to draw the line. Medal weightings are totally not uniform and shouldn't be posted, but most medals and most golds is just fact and is a pretty standard barometer (not a slippery slope). Can something be done about IngagedRedBird constantly changing the 2020 Summer Olympics article? This user apparently believes the Games have already been awarded to Madrid. (Plus the giant Madrid flag is annoying.)    → Michael J Ⓣ Ⓒ Ⓜ 23:14, 15 August 2012 (UTC)

Controversy section: 2012 Olympics

I am seeking advice on possible solution to avoid an edit war, since you have been active in the editing of the page and also advised me on my talk page. As you know the page protection has just been lifted and again a section (Women's cycle team sprint) was removed. I've posted my comments in the talk section with the intention of editing the piece (with new sources to support why it's a controversy). Getting Wikimedians to the Olympic Games

Hi. I am part of an effort to get Wikimedians access to the 2016 Summer Olympics as accredited reporters and photographers. Part of this effort includes covering the 2012 Summer Paralympics. Two Wikimedians have credentials to attend these games as reporters through Wikimedia Australia. As English Wikipedia does not allow original reporting, this is largely through Wikinews with a project page found at Wikinews:Paralympic Games. That's usually a good way of doing it, I often resort to doing so. United States at the 2008 Summer Paralympics and Great Britain at the 2008 Summer Paralympics are both listed as GAs and are quite thorough so they're good ones to follow - Basement12 (T.C) 12:28, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up on the pictograms on the Brazil 2004 page. Went back through and corrected all the other ones I put in there in EVERY country before Brazil. Will do my best to follow the guidelines that you linked to, which I was not aware existed. JDBear (talk) 03:26, 21 August 2012 (UTC)
