Admin

[edit]

I'm an admin now just to let you know. Is it ok to delete my user subpages at any time without giving notice by the way? Also, does this count for deletion my own images? --Thorpe | talk 02:36, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sprotects

[edit]

Please remember to list each protection, such as List of social networking sites you make at WP:PP, since it makes it much easier to keep track. You might consider unsprotecting this one since the anon is clearly now editing around it, and it restricts other, innocent editors unnecessarily in the meantime. -Splashtalk 03:20, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings FireFox,
I wish to offer my gratitude supporting me on my recent nominaton for adminship, which passed with the final tally of 65/4/3. Hey Firefox, i've finished the experimental structure for making a reformed version of NPA through the ideas of Esperanza as a whole, I was wondering what you thought about my process for it, as well as the idea overall. karmafist 08:40, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Firefox! Hopefully it can become a first step towards real reform in the policy process everywhere on WP. Please add anything you'd like to that, the seed of that is my idea, but all of the bark, branches and leaves will come from Esperanza as a whole. karmafist 11:18, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

List of Internet Slang

[edit]

Hello there. Maybe I'm missing something really obvious (I often do), but can you please tell me what was wrong with this edit. Thanks, →FireFox 18:21, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sure thing, there are two reasons actually. Although it is an acronym, it does not really fit the albeit vague definition of internet slang. That, and it does not return any hits on Google that I can find, so it appears to be an extremely non-notable acronym as well. Best regards, Hall Monitor 18:27, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oscar images

[edit]

Hey, I just wanted to ask your opinion about something. 81.240.202.11 has been making some useful additions to List of Academy Award winning movies, but this user has also added an non-free image removed to many pages in a format that doesn't seem to be useful to pages such as Pulp Fiction, Kramer vs. Kramer, and L.A. Confidential. The image is set at the top of the page, is left-aligned, and is not explained, but beside that, there are categories to describe things like that. I left a note on his talk page, and he has since stopped adding the images, but he also hasn't responded, so I'm asking you for your opinion on the matter. Thanks, JHMM13 (T | C) 20:28, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there FireFox, I was wondering if the above user, Qwertysoup (talk · contribs), was either a vandal or a very clueless newbie? If you look at his contributions, one of his most recent edits was nominating himself for adminship. I'm thinking he's a clueless newbie considering his only edits are edits to the sandbox and Wikipedia:Hangman. But I suggested also vandal as a description because of this edit. I also think he's just editing as this is a forum on some website rather than an encyclopedia. Instead of making contributions to articles, which he has only made 4 article edits, he is just self-promoting himself. Could you look into this? SWD316 talk to me 01:01, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I did have myself a good laugh. I don't think he should be blocked for over-experimenting with Wikipedia but the removal of his fake Wikipediaholic test score and deletion of his very early RFA would be nice. :-) SWD316 talk to me 20:57, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

for reverting vandalim to my userpage. When you're not busy, mind leaving a message with any ideas why I can't keep connected to an IRC channel? I don't have a firewall or anything like that stopping it, I don't know what's wrong. Have a feeling it has something to do with the nick? Any suggestions would be appreciated. --ViolinGirl 02:00, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, am I grateful for your help. I'll have someone watch when I get disconnected. That would probably help. It's SO annoying! What's an excess flood? It could be the internet connection, my router is pretty touchy. But, I'm not sure, since once I finally get connected (and stay connected), I usually can stay connected for a long time. And, I do use ChatZilla, so no hope there. :) I have registered my nickname, as well as I could tell to from the directions I got. That was a very confusing procedure, but I think I've got it. :) I talked for 45 minutes to a ChatZilla expert and they couldn't figure it out either, thinking it probably had something to do with freenode or maybe the channel? A final note is that it always says "no mode" at the top. Tito told me that was unusual. Anyway...if that inspires you to any more solution ideas, let me know, but nonetheless, thanks, and maybe I'll try the ChatZilla person again to see if they can dream up any other reasons why I'm having this problemo. :) Cheers!--ViolinGirl 15:56, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not at night, its just for the days, 8am-4pm. I live close so i can go home.

I don't support the Wikipedia Review, but I do browse there, because they do manage to point out some actions or break some stories. However, one of the things I did spot reported there was a block on the Username Jimbo Jones. Now, I understand why users would be blocked for impersonation or having an outright offensive username, however, I don't see why Jimbo Jones would be blocked. He obviously isn't impersonating Jimbo Wales, it's a character off the Simpsons. I know that it'd be pretty irrelevent now, as even if you unblocked him, I doubt he'd return. I'm not likely to create a sock account with the word "Jimbo" in, but I think people should be allowed to. - Hahnchen 15:15, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Commander Keane's userpage

[edit]

I'm not bothered by it, just curious. Why did the vandal write "commander keane <3 ali K". It's unlikely that they knew Ali_K was my sister, were you talking to them about her and me?--Commander Keane 13:47, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There appear to be two vandals who are removing information regarding Peter F Paul that is all documented and verified. hey firefox, not sure if this is the proper way to ask, but i was curious about the map change on the us civil war and red/blue state pages. i believed my map was historically correct (regard to territories, slave states) and used an appropriate color scheme both inoffensive and in line with public perception of the history (blue, gray etc.). i am a bit confused by the new map (kansas is pink? nevada became a state after the civil war). i have not revised the articles because i don't want to get into a useless revision war and because i'd like to learn why the change was made. thanks, ampersand. —Preceding unsigned comment added by ampersand (talkcontribs)

POV edits on Big Spring, Texas

[edit]

An anonymous user User:65.122.236.133 continues to revert this page to a version with a large hopelessly political-POV paragraph. While this user made a few statements on the talk page (and one, I believe, from an IP in the same range: User:65.122.232.3), the user continues to ignore pleas from User:Applejuicefool and myself to follow the WP:NPOV guidelines (see talk page). I was about to post a violation of the 3RR rule, except that the first of the 4 reverts was from the other IP address that's in the same range, so I can't say with 100% certainty (maybe 99%) that it's the same user. Thoughts on how to handle this? OhNoitsJamieTalk 18:24, 28 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the advice. I went ahead and posted the notice on the 3RR noticeboard. I'm not an admin (and it looks like my RFa is about to fail) so I can't block them myself. OhNoitsJamieTalk 18:44, 28 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.

In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: EA-welcome (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. Also see the proposed programs page for many new proposals and old ones that need more discussion ;)

Hi Firefox. I know you're an admin, so I was wondering if you could help out.

An anon user (69.233.11.34) has been repeatedly vandalizing the Tony Stewart page. Nothing major, mind you but enough to cause disruption.

I, along with another user have left about four warnings on his/her talk page, yet they continue to vandalize that page. I've issued a final warning, but as I am not an admin, I can do nothing to block this user. If you could assist this situation in someway, it'd be appreciated.

Encyclopedia vs 'Encyclopedia'

[edit]

82.143.162.72 17:29, 4 February 2006 (UTC)Whoever put the quotation marks around the word 'encyclopedia' in the Wikipedia entry seems to be improving the article, and does not seem to deserve having their edits undone. Wikipedia is more of a message board. I would describe any self-appointed profession in quotes. For example, the people who write the articles for the BNP's website are 'journalists' in quotes rather than simply journalists, a practice also noticed in the media. I would suggest the quotes should go back again.[reply]

Calling Wikipedia an encyclopedia is after all like calling the internet community of Lovely (cf. the BBC's website) a country, rather than a 'country'.

82.143.162.72 17:37, 4 February 2006 (UTC)Re. your reason for removing them: If they were put back but outside the square brackets (so the link wasn't broken), could they stay put?[reply]

Blocking

[edit]

Hi there FireFox. I've blocked a few of the PhilWelch vandals (I now see that the page has been protected), since his IP kept changing, I carried on the warnings and blocked on sight. Now, is that against policy? I'm a newbie admin, I think its ok, but not entirely sure. Thanks Banez 17:31, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wonders if admin rogueness is a good thing. Thanks for the info, I'll try to be a little more conservative with my blocks...Thanks Banez 17:37, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image Tagging Image:MGScricket.png

[edit]
Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:MGScricket.png. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use GFDL to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. SoothingR 19:48, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. There is no source for the image. Have you created the image, did you take it from a website? The image description page is not clear about this. It has a short description on what it depics, it has a license...it perfectly follows the guidelines on those things. However, there's no source on the page. As Wikipedia:Uploading images states; the summary should include "brief description of what the image is, its source, and what license you are uploading it under". Otherwise..cya on IRC.SoothingR 19:55, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Unless that the photographer for that Maidstonian-magazine doesn't want you to upload this picture, yeah, sure, remove the tag.SoothingR 20:05, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New vandalisms from 199.247.128.250

I'm not sure what's standard operating procedure here. 199.247.128.250 seems to drop by about once a month or so to make minor juvenile vandalisms. Another Esperanzial note...

[edit]

Hi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been ammended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".

The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.

Yours, as ever, Esperanzially,

Cleanup note

[edit]

Hi. Thank you for doing clean up in articles. However, I would like to note that doing an edit for the sake of putting categories on separate lines, like here is, I believe, not that urgent. It also obscures one's watchlist, which causes more work when tracking articles. I would suggest that the AWB framework be used only for more substantial edits, and that the edit summary used be more relevant, indicating the specific task done in the given article. Wonder what you think, you can reply here. Thanks. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 19:44, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would prefer to reply here, if that's ok with you. About AWB then... I don't know if you use/have ever used AWB before, but changing the edit summary for each individual edit takes a long time and is very tedious. When you select to cleanup a certain category of articles, you don't know exactly what you're going to be cleaning up for every individual article. AWB is, amongst other things, designed to "perfect" articles, making sure that the Manual of Style is followed closely. So, if two category's are included on the same line, AWB is designed to correct this in accordance with the Manual of Style, as far as I am aware. If you want to ask about this more in general, or to ask why AWB is designed to correct minor edits like that, then I suggest you leave a message on the talk page of here, so the developer(s) of the browser will be able to answer your query, and much better than I just did. Thanks! FireFoxT ♥ 20:01, 14 February 2006

I tried to say that it is not worth the trouble modifying articles for edits like inserting a newline between categories, which has no effect on the page layout. That is to say, if you do decide to use AWB on a given article, I think it should be if you saw a typo, or wanted to fix a missspelling; meaning something which will make a difference in how the article looks like, and then it is fine if it fixes other things along the way. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 21:11, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I will comment at Wikipedia talk:AutoWikiBrowser. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 21:13, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup

[edit]

Sometimes when extra vertical blank space (more than one line) separates paragraphs in an article, I delete the extra ones. But a blank line between a section heading and the first paragraph of the section does not alter the appearance of the article and does make it easier for the editor to read. I don't think you should be spending effort on deleting those. Michael Hardy 21:44, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To me, a welcome should mean something. It should mean that hi, I'm going to watch out for you, and in a way, watch over you. Half guardian angle, half conscience. Not wiki stalking, checking contributions or anything, but at least watchlisting the talk page, to interviene in case the person gets into, or starts causing trouble. In a small way, it is, or should be, about an experienced person taking some responsibility for a (potential) newbie. But maybe that's just me. Regards, Ben Aveling 17:55, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yours with the largest amount of respect possible under the circumstances, which is in fact very small indeed,--Someone who thinks User:Ed g2s is getting to big for his boots (talk) 18:03, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If I find that you haven't got permission to block me, I'll tell your mummy and daddy, who might give you a chocolate ban. Sorry, permission is a long word for a young person. It means that you are allowed to do something, if you've got permission.--Someone who thinks User:Ed g2s is getting to big for his boots (talk) 18:10, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In reply to your second "last warning", I must inform you that if you can't understand the concept of something being last, then you'll probably fail GCSE English, if you're taking that.--Someone who thinks User:Ed g2s is getting to big for his boots (talk) 18:16, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Block of Aiden

[edit]

Hi Firefox, I noticed you blocked User:Aiden for 3RR, but I don't see where the violation has occured. Would you take a look again? I think maybe you've mistaken him for someone else? Also, 48-hours would be a bit excessive for someone who has no previous record of this kind of violation. --MPerel ( talk | contrib) 16:57, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I see now that it is from List of people known as father or mother of something. Still 48 hours is excessive for a first offense. Would you consider shortening this at least to the standard 24 hrs? --MPerel ( talk | contrib) 17:05, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I see the violation at Islam now also. Well, the two articles really involve the same people on the same disputed topic. I actually disagree with Aiden's edits in both those places, but still, this is his first offense and my experience with him is that this is not his usual behavior. So, for a first-time block, I hope you do consider reducing the time. Of course if he returns to edit warring, the longer block would be warranted next time. Thanks for your consideration. --MPerel ( talk | contrib) 17:32, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

re Keetoowah Nighthawk Society

[edit]

I am the author of the original content and original article on Wikipedia concerning this closed religious society, and I am the only authorized webmaster for the Original Keetoowah Society website at www.keetoowahsociety.org

This "Waya Sahoni" person is a noted wiki disrupter named Jeffrey Vernon Merkey

see http://www.netshaq.com/cgiproxy/nph-proxy.cgi/011100A/http/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Accuracy_dispute

and see

http://www.netshaq.com/cgiproxy/nph-proxy.cgi/011100A/http/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeffrey_Vernon_Merkey

Merkey is a non-member of The Original Keetoowah Society who is attempting to control all content on this article.

Merkey claims to have been born near Oklahoma City, on "Cherokee lands" when the only "lands" the Cherokee Nation actually owns is the Arkansas Riverbed and a few acres around the Tribal Complex in Tahlequah. The Nation has a jurisdictional area of several counties in Northeast Oklahoma.

Merkey is a peyote user who lives in Utah and claims to be postng from Texas. The use of Peyote is part of Cherokee religious culture.

Jeff does not use peyote and has stated such in many public sources. Waya sahoni 21:11, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Original Keetoowah Society is a closed religious society, of which "Waya Sahoni" is not a member. One must be born into the Original Keetoowah Society to be a member of that society. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Blueotter (talkcontribs)

Original Society? So just how many Keetoowah Societies are there? I was under the impression there was only one. Waya sahoni 21:11, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This user is writing in second person with a counter culture organization which is not Federally recognized. His materials fail WP:RS and his website lacks academic credentials from either the Cherokee Nation or the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians. This person is posting WP:NPA and reverting edits to outlandish "Hopi" indian materials which are outside of the Cherokee culture. I am also not Jeff. This User:blueotter is a persistent vandal and POV pusher in that article. Waya sahoni 21:08, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #1

[edit]
Reach out is a program aimed at allowing users to bring issues that they have had in Wikipedia to a listening, sympathetic and caring audience:
"No one can know how we feel if we do not say. We cannot expect to get understanding if we do not ask for it. No one will dispute that sometimes life's issues are too much for one person. It is fair to say that sometimes Wikipedia's problems fall under the same heading. This is a place where you can bring the bruises that can sometimes be got on this project for attention."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Note from the editor
Welcome to this new format of the Esperanza Newsletter, which came about during the last Advisory Council meeting - we hope you like it! The major changes are that each month, right after the Council meeting, this will be sent out and will include two featured programs and a sum up of the meeting. Also, it will be signed by all of the Advisory Council members, not just Celestianpower. Have an Esperanzial end of March, everyone!
 1. Future meetings are to be held monthly, not fortnightly as before.
 2. Bans and Access level changes (apart from autovoice) in the IRC channel are to be reported at the new log.
 3. In the IRC channel, there is going to be only one bot at a time.
 4. The charter requires members to have 150 edits and 2 weeks editing. Why this is the case will be clarified.
 5. A new Code of Conduct will be drafted by JoanneB and proposed to the Esperanza community.
 6. The NPA reform idea is to be dropped officially.
 7. Charter ammendments are to be discussed in future, not voted on.
 8. The Advisory Council is not going to be proposed to be expanded by the Advisory Council themselves, if others want to propose it, they will listen.
Signed...

Prince article

[edit]

Hello Firefox. My username is JediCarlos and my IP address is 158.97.80.160. I added the Trivia section and at least one other user besides me has added information to this Section as can be seen in 06:17, 4 April 2006 Matharvest m (→Trivia - formatting). Any idea why the Trivia section is being deleted? Is there anything we can do about it so the Trivia section does not get deleted again? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 158.97.52.43 (talkcontribs)

Hello Firefox. My username is JediCarlos. Ericorbit left me this message:

Hello JediCarlos. Regarding the Prince page, there is currently a question about whether the trivia section has relevence to that article. Please do not re-add that section without first contributing to the Prince Discussion page. Thanks. -- eo 18:15, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

I replied Ericorbit with this message:

Hello Ericorbit. My username is JediCarlos. I have read the message you sent me and I would like to know if you can help me since I don't know how I can contribute to the Prince Discussion page to talk about the Trivia Section. Do I need to create a new section? Any advice you can give me? Thanks!

Editing article

[edit]

Hello Firefox. My username is JediCarlos.

Ericorbit sent me this message:

Hi JediCarlos, I assume you know how to view a discussion page (the "discussion" tab located at the top of any article). Once there, you can edit a discussion page the same way you would edit any other article... put your text below the part you want to respond to. Just make sure you sign any comments you make with four tildes 158.97.52.43 20:42, 5 April 2006 (UTC) and this will automatically append your name to the comments so people know who left it. You may also want to check the "history" tab to look at the "edit summary" text that people use when editing a page. With regard to Prince, there was a question about the validity of the "trivia" section as the contents seemed rather vague and need further explanation. This is why your addition was repeatedly removed - as you kept adding it without contributing to the coversation. Feel free to leave any comments there and all editors can come to a conclusion about the trivia. -- eo 20:28, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have a question Firefox. Before I proceed as Ericorbit has told me, I guess I need to wait until the block for username JediCarlos and/or IP address 158.97.80.160 expires 18:14, 6 April 2006 right? Thanks

Webpage information

[edit]

Hello Firefox. I would like to add the following information to the Official sites subsection of the External links section in the Prince article:

 • www.emale.com Now links to NPG Music Club - Prince's official site, but originally it had another information. This webpage is mentioned in the song Emale from CD number 2 of the Album Emancipation (1996).

Is it ok if I do this? Waiting for your response before doing so. Thanks!

Webpage of January 9, 1998

[edit]

Hello Firefox. I would like to add the following information

 • Love 4 One Another Now links to NPG Music Club - Prince's official site, but originally it said in its main webpage: welcome to the playground of the new power generation: the definitive place of gathering 4 all who love life, love God, lovesexy...a place where music, poetry and positive vibes can be shared freely without fear of retribution and every page offers a new awakening...a collective conscience of unity, love and truth so great every human will want 2 join. This site is the bginning of a webwide effort 2 change the vibration of the world...love 4 one another, the ticket... live, the ride... dig if u will a venture inside.

Again, I guess it is ok if I do this and waiting for your response before doing so. Thanks!

Two different Domain Names in DNS (Domain Name System)

[edit]

I see your point of view. But domain names npgmusicclub.com and love4oneanother.com have different administrative and technical contacts in the WHOIS database. Originally this webpages had different information (including www.emale.com) and I saw when they were linked to npgmusicclub.com so my point of view is that they should be included since originally they were different webpages.

What do you think of this explanation? Waiting for your response. Thanks!

Adding information

[edit]

I understand. I am going to add it now and wait to see what happens. If another user deletes it, then I will try the Prince Discussion Page and not add it again until we get a consensus.

I will ask for your help Firefox to see how to reach a verdict though. Could you help me with that? Waiting for your response. Thanks!

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #2

[edit]
The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date:
"Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed. Sadly, these editors often leave the project. As Esperanzians, we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. A project the size of Wikipedia has thousands of editors, so there are plenty of people out there who deserve recognition, one just has to find them. The object of this program is not to flood editors with Barnstars, but to seek out people who deserve them, and make them feel appreciated."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Information
Welcome to the second issue of the new format Esperanza Newsletter - we hope you still like it! This week, it was delivered diligently by our new dogsbody. MiszaBot (run by Misza13): any execution complaints should go to him. Content comments should be directed at the Esperanza talkpage. Thanks!
 1. The next elections: Approval voting as before and, also as before, an previous leadership member can run. Please submit your name for voting in the relevant section of this page. Voting starts on 2006-04-23 and ends on 2006-04-30. There will be three places up for grabs as KnowledgeOfSelf is leaving Wikipedia. Please see the previously linked page for full details.
 2. The Code of Conduct is now ready for extensive discussion! Specific comments should go to the Code of Conduct talk page, discussion of having one at all should be directed to the main Esperanza talk page.
 3. The current process for accepting proposals for new programs has been deemed fine. All Advisory Council members and the Admin Gen are to endevour to be bold when viewing discussion. If they feel that consensus has been reached, they will act accordingly.
A plea from the editor...
The propsed programs page is terribly underused! Please leave any comments, good or bad, on the page, to help us determine the membership's thoughts on the ideas there.

Your talk page has somehow been added to my watch list, apparently as a result of whatever you did to reverse the unauthorized move of Jimbo's name in other languages page. Bit of a tricky situation about the article PS3Forums. If you go to the article for deletion page you will no what I am on about! Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Donkey punch (third nomination)

[edit]

Just curious, but you closed this as a speedy keep 21 minutes after it opened. That seems rash, so I thought I'd ask why, as no explanation was given. Steve block talk 21:00, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Adolf Hitler article gets vandalized often. Should we delete it because someone inserts vandalism? -- ( drini's page ) 21:01, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Are we discussing Adolf Hitler? Thought not. Moving on, you still reckon 21 minutes is a fair crack at the whip? I'm also concerned you don't feel that you should explain such a speedy decision when you make it. How many afd's an article has should never really become a bar to having one more. Steve block talk 21:25, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
One of the votes was by a main contributor to the page who was also engaged in a revert war with the nominator, so I hope you'll agree that can be discounted, which leaves two speedy keep comments, coming in 10 minutes after the page was nominated. I wouldn't close that as a speedy close on the first day, let alone after 20 minutes. I'm concerned you don't feel the amount of time an article has been listed at afd matters, because that can lead to admin abuse and gaming the system. I can't se any reason how you can state there was an obvious consensus in a debate that had been open 21 minutes. Say the first three votes had read speedy delete. Would you have closed it delete? I'm also concerned you don't seem to see an issue with not explaining the speedy close. I'm also puzzled you see it as a bad faith nom, in the first sentence the nominator outlines three policies the article may breach. That's not a bad faith nomination. Steve block talk 21:40, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate you are going to bed, I probably should too, but whilst it is fresh in mind, what I was trying to get across is this: you closed without explanation after 21 minutes without explanation. That seemed rash to me, so I asked you why. I still think 21 minutes is way too soon to be closing a deletion debate, and I'm a little troubled, if you'll forgive me for saying so, that you don't think you need to explain a close of that rapidity. I wasn't looking for the reopening of the debate, as much as wanting to point out that I felt a reason should have been given by the closing admin. I hope that clarifies things on my end better, and I apologise for not being clearer on that from the off. I think the Adolf Hitler thing just got up my nose, I can't see how it is at all relevant, and I apologise if I let that colour my tone. Steve block talk 22:08, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Also, you're quite right, I've seen speedy's on just one vote before. The difference was, this didn't look a speedy to me. And speedy delete's are easier to understand, because a reason is given in the deletion, a speedy keep is harder to understand if no reason is given. See to me, that this article may violate three policies and has had two deletion debates already makes it contentious and perhaps not a speedy keep. But that's me. Like I say, I think I was more thrown by the 21 minutes and the lack of a reason, because it didn't look a no-brainer. Steve block talk 22:23, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I think the consensus is that you had it right off the bat first time. Sorry for the way this went down. Steve block talk 18:37, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Aye, seems a good plan. Apologies once again, and take it easy. Next time I come round here shooting my mouth off, feel free to ignore me. Steve block talk 18:44, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This strikes me a terrible thing to suggest to blocked people. "It doesnt matter that your blocked. Our enforcement means nothing. Just make a new account." ---J.Smith 10:57, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #3

[edit]
The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Wikipedia better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service.
This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
The Stressbusters are a subset of Esperanza aiming to investigate the causes of stress. New eyes on the situation are always welcome!
Note from the editor
As always, MiszaBot handled this delivery. Thank you! Also, congratulations go to Pschemp, Titoxd and Freakofnurture for being elected in the last elections! An Esperanzial May to all of the readership!
 1. Posting logs of the Esperanza IRC channel are explicitly banned anywhere. Violation of this rule results in deletion and a ban from the channel.
 2. A disclaimer is going to be added to the Esperanza main page. We are humans and, as such, are imperfect.
 3. Various revisions have been made to the Code of Conduct. Please see them, as the proposal is ready to be ratified by the community and enacted. All members will members to have to re-confirm their membership after accepting the Code of Conduct.
 4. Referendums are to be held on whether terms of AC members should be lengthened and whether we should abolish votes full stop.
 5. Admin Coaching reform is agreed upon.

VandalProof 1.2 Now Available

[edit]

After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. As always, your suggestions for improvement are always appreciated, and I hope that you will find this new version useful. Happy editing! --AmiDaniel (talk) 02:21, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Block

[edit]

Hi! I hope you do not find this message in the least bit offencive, it is intended as a well-meaning critique.

I e-mailed you an abbreviated version of this message, but received no reply. I don’t normally like to complain, but regardless I am, to say the least, disappointed with the way you handled this situation.

Obviously, I am well aware why I was blocked and I apologise for that, I didn't realise the rules on bad language were so strict and I will make every effort not to blow a fuse in future.

Firstly I would like to protest for being blocked for "unprovoked attacks". This is clearly not the case. Having removed the image on two or three occasions (which was restored by a number of users), I think OneSixOne then contacted me through his unsigned log-in address encouraging me to "go to war over" over the dispute. When challenged to provide a reason for his actions, the user simply mimicked what I had said in a further attempt to provoke me. He continued to remove the image after I issued a reasonable, well meaning comment on the Michael Jackson Talk Page. Frankly, I consider the continued and unjustified removal of the image provocation enough, without the above.

I realise my talk page records a few conflicts, but I can assure you I do not use bad language (or "personal attacks") without justification. I do find it hard to maintain my temper when a vandal is interfering with my work and clearly trying to annoy me. It is not even as if I flew off the handle in this particular case. When I have done before and, where clearly provoked, I have received a polite but stern warning. I always make a point of apologising once the issue has been resolved. In fact I came to you in order to end the situation before it came to more aggressive words being exchanged, but I'll deal with that below.

Secondly, I would like to protest against the way you employed your status as admin (at least in this instance). I realise to raise the issue of "respect for ones elders" is somewhat tempestuous, but at the very least I would thank you not to talk down to me as I would not do the same to you. Of course I am aware that the issue I came to you with in the first place was childish, but if it weren't for childish users like OneSixOne, we wouldn't need admin.

While I accept my use of language was contrary to some admins policy (though I regret I cannot accept childish - I'm Northern for Compo, Foggy & Clegg's sake!) the matter still stands that I came to you, an admin, with a genuine problem and you have taken no steps to resolve that problem. I understand the nature of the complaint was somewhat childish, but then I'm not the one removing the picture am I? To criticise - and indeed punish - me for attempting to correct the situation is a shocking misuse of the powers that were bestowed upon you in good faith.

A similar misuse of powers occurred in a transaction between us yesterday, where I attempted to remove the block notice. I was unaware that I was not free to remove message from my own Talk Page, and believed a vandal was behind the restorations. When I looked into the matter further I discovered that it was you and that rather than explain what you were doing and why you would rather I left your post, you chose to simply threaten me with blocking again. I did not even discover this threat until another user pointed out your reasoning. Frankly, prior to this I was prepared to remove the note a third time and would presumably have been blocked.

You also failed to block OneSixOne for his "personal attack" on me, which appears a bit hypocritical. He also removed the picture again. This IS vandalism and should be dealt with.

All in all I would like to apologise for my part in these regrettable proceedings (so for I an tell, the use of the word "cunt", and trying to resolve a situation involving vandalism), but I would urge you to consider your own role and the role of OneSixOne (vandalism, provocation, "personal attacks").

I hope we can resolve this situation. I intend full well to work my way onto your "Wikipedians I like" list and, for what it's worth, good luck with your exams. Cheers--Crestville 13:36, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Big Brother UK series 7

[edit]

Hello there,

I got the message of the 3 Revert rule. Does this also place user:'9cds' in this position too?

He insists on reverting ALL of my updates to the page as if it were his own. If you read Mine and 9cds talk pages, please can you evaluate the situation.

It is all about Big brother pictures... He has added the wrong logo and insisted that I am in the wrong when it is quite clear which is the official logo from the official big brother website http://www.channel4.com/bigbrother and whether I can add the pictures of the contestants, which is perfectly viable according to the rules on their site for this:- http://www.channel4.com/bigbrother/about/fan-rules.html

Ever since I touched the page, and created another page in ignorance which he removed and redirected to his... I saw that he hadnt added any of the material that I had on the merged pages... I tried adding them in addition to his page and he said they were irrelevent and removed them.

I am in a battle with this guy that I don't even know because he thinks that the page is his to rule and accept and deny people's legit changes.

He has nominated all of my files for deleteion as well!

If you could please do something about him, that would be great.

I shall look forward to your return.

Thanks for any help

I'm sorry, but why did you close this AfD? It started today. Please consider re-opening and allowing to properly close. Thanks. --badlydrawnjeff (WP:MEMES?) 21:21, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Regardless of when an AfD starts, it can be closed at any time to an administrator's descretion. On this AfD we had a concensus to delete (with some speedy votes) and so it was closed early, and the article deleted. Thanks, — FireFox (UTC) 21:24, 27 May '06
What consensus? The page was only up for less than a day, instead of the 5 its supposed to, so it's tough to say as such. Secondly, can you point out where admin discretion factors in according to process? --badlydrawnjeff (WP:MEMES?) 21:27, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AfD of Pat Price

[edit]

I'll have to ask how you came to the conclusion regarding your close on Pat Price. It appears straight votecounting was taken into affect rather than the arguments presented, many of which (such as three who claimed that there wasn't anything verifiable about him in defiance of evidence to the contrary, and one who cited a non-policy, non-guideline, non-sensical essay in his justification, which makes no sense given who he is. Given that he's mentioned in 25 books on remote viewing and appears to, in fact, be a notable crank and meets our standard guidelines, I'm just curious as to your rationale, thanks. --badlydrawnjeff (WP:MEMES?) 13:23, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If I had closed purely on votecounting, it would probably have been closed no consensus, with 6 deletes against 4 keeps. The AfD had already been relisted, and had therefore been open 10 days and needed closing. I read through the discussion and came to my 'conclusion' of deleting based on the information given by everybody, including you, and coming to my own desision. I don't really know how to explain the closure of an AfD - I closed it how I did because that seemed the most sensible thing to do. — FireFox 13:38, 28 May '06
I don't mind that you closed it, I am simply curious as to how you came to the delete decision. Since you admit that straight vote counting would have gotten a no consensus, and (at least by my view) not much was offered in terms of a reason to delete, I'm simply wondering what you used as a sensible interpretation. --badlydrawnjeff (WP:MEMES?) 13:54, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
What made "delete" the most appropriate? I ask the question because i'm sure that there was a thought process going on regarding the close when you did it. --badlydrawnjeff (WP:MEMES?) 14:03, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
FWIW, Jeff has now listed this at WP:DRV, at which you may want to comment... Joe 16:47, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the closing, please note that I co-nominated the mirror World_Air_Forces and the redirect Largest Air Force. Please delete those articles as well. Thanks. --Mmx1 01:06, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My warning

[edit]

Who exactly is the warning from? Last time I checked, Xyrael originally posted it, not you. Not to sound rude or anything, but unless you asked or told them to post a warning on my talk page, I'd rather you didn't get involved, otherwise you're going to confuse me. --JDtalkemail 17:15, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to confuse, my aim was to act as a neutral third party in the debate, and to (hopefully and with good faith) illustrate that more than one person is against you. Hope that cleared things up, and thanks for querying civily. --Xyrael T 17:18, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I already know more than one person is "against me", but you don't need to make a point of it. Nothing I said was meant to be uncivil, but if that's the way it's all being received why doesn't the person on the receiving end actually try to sort it all out, rather than continually post warnings on my page? --JDtalkemail 17:23, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I picked your name at random from the list of admins, and have come to ask you to please delete a page, so I may move another in its place. So, because both articles are identical, and I want credit for creating the original article (SBC (1984-2005)), could you please delete the page SBC Communications so I can move (SBC (1984-2005)) into its place? If I alternated my signature everyday, I wouldn't only change the color, I would change the name, one day "The King of Kings", the next ..who knows? ;-) -- from The King of Kings 18:28, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Good luck with exams. ;-) Mind telling me in what? -- from The King of Kings 18:33, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Not to be nosey, but how much longer until your summer break? -- from The King of Kings 18:37, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Cool more time to spend with Wikipedia past exams, eh? ;-) Darn, a month of worrying for exams, you got more guts than me. ;-) What a coincidence, I got out in mid-May too. But my school had to be a dick and made us take exams during our final days. Our technical last day was May 12, and we finished exams on May 19. It sucked studying for all those exams at one time :( But the good thing is I got an A on the one of them (I'm a B-C student so for me that was good). ;) All the best with your exams. Oh and thanks. -- from The King of Kings 18:52, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You can do it! I'm sure it look cool enough eventually, I have faith in you. ;-) -- from The King of Kings 19:02, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
*Moe's brain starts to sizzle* Gah.. to confusing. Must... *beats head against wall* :P -- from The King of Kings 19:13, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
:P Tee hee, fried brains. Personally, I find mine to be scrambled. :p -- from The King of Kings 19:21, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, what just happened, you signed but nothing showed up? Looks like your work has just begun :( -- from The King of Kings 19:31, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Not to add insult to injury, but the dot (•) doesn't pick up well on some computers. One time I added the dot and it looked like an HTML code or something. But your signature is special believe me. ;-) -- from The King of Kings 19:40, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thats almost perfect. :P Could I make the suggestion of making it into one big userspace template and just using the template to sign with? -- from The King of Kings 19:54, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't really know how to explain it, but maybe I'll give it a go. ;-) Ya know how you susbt all the templates and it turns out to be this one massive block of text? Well, maybe instead of making a sig, make a userspace template sig (I think thats what you're doing), but when that is finished, make another userspace template to place the signature in to condence the sixe of the sig on talk pages. Did any of that make sense? -- from The King of Kings 20:02, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Mind if I try to test out a few things in my userspace and see what the result is when I do it? -- from The King of Kings 20:22, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the semi-late reply. :( I'll get on it. In a little while I'll tell you what I came up with. ;-) -- from The King of Kings 20:30, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've got it!!

[edit]

Ok try this:

In your preferences type:

<span style="color:#3971DE">Fire</span><span style="color:#3971DE">Fox</span> 21:43 25 July '06

Make sure Raw signature box is checked

I believe it not being checked was one of the problems you had. The FireFox/Sig2 has the template FireFox/Sig in it so when it subst's, it only leaves the second template which contains the sig. The problem I got first the template not substituting right and then the timestamp thing. The thing with the Current date and everything was confusing :-(

Another important thing is now you only have to type three ~~~ to make your sig and timestamp.

If you type in three tiles it should turn out like this:

 1. REDIRECT User:FireFox 21:12 09 June '06

Make sure not to merge or delete User:FireFox/Sig2 or User:FireFox/Sig.' Hey, I even got the daily rotating sig in. ;-) The only potential problem I see arriving from this the template inside the template will never get substitiued, which would be a lot of links after a while, but I guess thats a problem for the future. ;-) Hope this helps -- from The King of Kings 21:12, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm.. that is a problem isn't it. I'll try looking into what another editor did. -- from The King of Kings 21:36, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, whenever you get back ask me how I'm going along with it so I can update you. ;-) -- from The King of Kings 21:41, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

HAHAHA I GOT IT!!

[edit]

I took me another hour, but I got the exact way Haza has his signature. I had to restart your other sig subpages though. Now it substitutes it and everything is great! (Although, I still like my original idea with the template inside a template :()

Copy and paste the following, lengthy code to the nickname box on My preferences:

— <span style="color:#62AC65">Fire</span><span style="color:#62AC65">Fox</span> 21:43 25 July '06

Sorry for making your talk page long width-wise. ;-) But, this is neat. I finally was able to do this kind thing (assistance to an user, not only a user but admin), that was actually of use. ;-)

You basically don't need User:FireFox/Sig anymore because all you need is the code in your signature box and the other subpages and you'll be fine.

If you type three ~~~ it should turn out like this now:

FireFox 22:52 09 June '06

Copy and paste the code into the box and tell my how it is. Hopefully this shall be the end of your signature search. ;-) -- from The King of Kings 22:54, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. :P -- from The King of Kings 18:20, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

They are your names.

[edit]

That's how some found my site; I even sign my Usenet Posts with that full name. Do some research before you bother sending me any bullshit. Or do I have to say bullpoopie here?

--G-Spot 11:18, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I actually defend myself and the truth.

[edit]

You could go after this entire database as being unreliable here and there; admins will never admit their failures because they control the power, but. I am a watch dog, I don't need this, I can web master; I can write articles on the outside. --G-Spot 12:25, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

That's sensable, millions of other searches are not, even massive ad searches like Yahoo and Google and Pay-Per-Inclusions as well no doubt. Mass Market is fine I guess, I am defending not attacking just in case it needs spelling out. --G-Spot 12:36, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Scroogle Scraper"

[edit]

Who banned Scroogle, Google Watch, Wikipedia Watch, etc... outside URL links? What happens to them? Google to Yahoo to Jayde Search are okayed links, but Scroogle is spam? Criticism of this is spam?

Cults have been described as groups where criticism of the Leaders (or Administrators in this case) or Group can not be criticized. That seems to exist here, especially with the smap policy.

--G-Spot 14:52, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's just the spam blacklist that filters out certain URLs, as you are probably aware. It has nothing to do with me

[edit]

Still this must bring some suspicion to Wikipedia itself, who possibly breaks it's own rules, by picking on Wikipedia Watch am I right? --G-Spot 15:37, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

Thank you

Hi 49TL/Archive/2006, thank you for voting in my RFA which failed eventually at a result of (91/51/8). I do not plan to run for adminship until a later date. Once again, I will like to thank you for voting. --Terence Ong (talk | contribs) 14:30, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that you deleted the article ฅนตัดหญ้า. I don't have anything to do with the article, but I wanted to let you know that it's in Thai, and the Thai Wikipedia has an article under the same name at th:ฅนตัดหญ้า. I can't read Thai, but you might consider restoring the article and asking someone who reads Thai to translate it. Or you could post a message on the author's talk page asking him or her to try to translate it into English or find someone willing to translate the article. How are you, and hows the sig working for ya? — The King of Kings 19:51, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm fine, I've gotten back into action onto Wikipedia after having to leave after Tropical Storm Alberto, *sighs, this was supposed to be my vacation* Glad your sig is still holding up. ;-) — The King of Kings 19:58, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, My area was one of the hardest hit :( Thankfully anything that bad could have happened passed me, barely. The worst I ever got was during Hurricane Jeanne of 2004, my shed blown away, it sucked. Surpringly, the only thing that blew away was the shed, nothing inside of it. :D I sorta laughed at the shed flying in the air, but then I started to realize I had to leave my house to go pick up the stuff during the middle of the storm. :( — The King of Kings 20:11, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that Tsunami was no joke. :( The only thing I can do when it affects me it try to laugh it off sometimes, but sometimes gets to a point where I can't. — The King of Kings 20:17, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

BB TfD

[edit]

In all truth I'd rather the template were in use, but if all of one people think it shouldn't be used, then you may as well delete it. And as for 9cds's comment, why should he post on my talk page when I asked him not to unless it was necessary, and when it's likely to cause arguments or whatever? --JDtalkemail 15:44, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't say that anybody owned any pages, but if I'm not allowed to delete anything on my talk page that I don't want on there, then how am I supposed to not have him talk to me? ---JDtalkemail 15:51, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Is that including, or excluding, when 9cds does it to me? --JDtalkemail 15:53, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You say that ignoring people is "very bad etiquette and is severely frowned at", but when I complain to 9cds about ignoring me, I get personal attack and incivility warnings. --JDtalkemail 15:58, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's a surprise, considering you were the person that pointed out where I had apparently been uncivil: User_talk:JD_UK/A1#Talk: Big Brother UK series 7 --JDtalkemail 16:11, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
On that page, you pointed out this edit that I made. That's what I was referring to in my previous post. --JDtalkemail 16:21, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It doesn't seem uncivil; he managed to have the time to reply to other peoples' messages. And how does that message verge on a personal attack? --JDtalkemail 16:30, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Which it would appear he did... --JDtalkemail 16:32, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If my post "appeared" uncivil, which I don't actually see how, then I can understand why he didn't reply to the post; but that doesn't change the fact that he chose not to reply to my original post. --JDtalkemail 16:40, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't assume you were going to, and I didn't assume you did. I'm assuming there isn't a good reason for his not replying to my original message, and I couldn't care less, as long as I don't have to reply to any of his in future. --JDtalkemail 16:46, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Are there any repercussions for choosing to ignore somebody? --JDtalkemail 16:51, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, can really see myself being an admin... Anyway, okay then. --JDtalkemail 16:57, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Doubt that. (the nomination, that is) --JDtalkemail 17:03, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Okay then. --JDtalkemail 17:06, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting protection?

[edit]

Can something be done about the constant reversions of the Buzz Out Loud article. I removed a bunch of unessary links which were not needed and possibly spam and 2 anoymnous users (perhaps 1 under 2 ips) keep reverting it? Can something be done perhaps semi-protection? - Mike Beckham 23:24, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was trying to by contacting you. I have read the guidelines surrounding this and know 1 fanlink is ok but no more. - Mike Beckham 00:14, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Are you able to delete images I have uploaded at my request? If so, could you delete this one please? It's not being used on the article I uploaded it for, as I managed to upload a better one. --JDtalkemail 07:20, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

BB06 Table

[edit]

9cds and I are having another argument on Talk:Big Brother Australia series 6. I don't know if you want to get involved, or if you would even stay impartial or whatever, but he's insistent that the removal of the table on the article's main page must be. Could you try mediate it or whatever please? I'm trying my best to "stay civil", as you all keep putting it. --JDtalkemail 19:20, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

And on the subject, what was that last warning for? --JDtalkemail 19:21, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You didn't leave any warning on 9cds's talk page though, did you. --JDtalkemail 19:23, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for voting!
Hello 49TL/Archive/2006, and thank you so much for voting in my recent RfA. I am pleased to inform you that it passed with a final tally of (119/1/3), into the WP:100, so I have now been cleared for adminship and will soon be soaring above the clouds. I was overjoyed, shocked, and humbled by the tally, and, most importantly, all the support. Thank you. If there is ever anything you need, you know where you can find me. Take care.

Geoff Hurst article

[edit]

Re accidental deletion (as per User_talk:David_McCormick#Edit_to_.5B.5BGeoff_Hurst.5D.5D): Whoops, definitely accidental. Odd, I normally check afterwards too, but I must have been in a rush for some reason. Apologies, and will try to be more careful. (Question: Is the usual practice in discussions such as this to reply on your own talk page, under the comment written by the other person (as I first did), or to reply like this on the other person's talk page? I'm still a newbie really.) Thanks. David McCormick 17:59, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A short Esperanzial update

[edit]

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey. I don't think we have talked before but I'd like to ask you a question. I understand you a member of Esperanza. question about dealing with a vandal (bad-faith AfD nominator)

[edit]

Greetings; I left this note on the AfD discussion page for the University of Miami 2006 custodial workers' strike. "I would also like to hereby ask an administrator for advice on what to do if (when) DSJ2 nominates this article for deletion a third time without providing any new reasons, for I am sad to report that I expect this to happen. Thanks!" Universitytruth 13:09, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks much for the speedy reply. So we can send a user himself to deletion review? Cool. I'll be ready for that discussion, should it come up. Best wishes, Universitytruth 13:18, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
