LOTD

There have been many recent proposals to attempt to get a List feature on the main page. This is a test that I am hoping builds up enough steam to make it to the main page. Many felt this method was very complicated and bureaucratic when I described it. I am hoping that seeing it operate will alleviate such opposition because it is fairly simple.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTD) 11:14, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

I imagine that if we are successful at getting to the main page all of the test winners would be eligible to be renominated since the real limit should be being on the main page once. We just need to get a significant level of participants who can speak towards the benefits of this system. Personally, I think if we can get over 20 regualar voters and nominators that would be a good beginning.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTD) 00:33, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Hello & Thank You

Thanks for the info about the vampire page! And I'll be sure to ask if I have a question. Thank you!!!;)

Lithgow Panther

Hi,

The entire text of the deleted article was:

"Phantom Cats also known as Alien Big Cats, British big cats, Phantom Cats, Gippsland phantom cat"

Best of luck if you wish to compose something sensible! Best wishes, Xoloz (talk) 02:53, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for the info Xolox. Cheers, Spawn Man (talk) 06:31, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

I tagged it for deletion, but can use your help dealing with the author. Thanks, Igor Berger (talk) 08:06, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

I've replied on the talk page. Spawn Man (talk) 08:22, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Just a little question

Um, if you really achieved so much as you say on your userpage, why didn't you submit an RfA already? -- Mentifisto 05:39, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

It's not all just about achievements - it's about knowledge, responsibility, trust and most of all, patience. I'd ruin everything if I just stormed off and nominated myself. Thank you for your concern, but I'm quite happy waiting. Cheers, Spawn Man (talk) 05:01, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, sidetracked

Huh? No, sorry, got sidetracked. Lead looks good. I have been a little, ummm, sidetracked (see my contribs...and arbcom). Plus I am frigging around with my computer which is taking alot longer than expected. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 04:49, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

That was only one, mainly the Open All Hours episodes...say you don't have any Ronnie Barker biographies/commentaries do you? cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 06:01, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Rick Roeber

I have done some work since you last visited Rick Roeber. Added notability how Harvard University recognized Roeber as a prominent BF runner. Talked to Dr. Daniel Lieberman. Study will be published in '08. Citation forthcoming. While a lot of the links to media notability were deleted by Grey Wanderer, it is still pretty clear that the guy has notability. The FOX News spot is TOTALLY about Roeber and not just a sidebar, and KC Star article is a lengthy article that appeared as the lead article in the Sunday Preview Magazine section. Thanks. --yarkoski1012 (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 18:12, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Telling porkies

OK, where I am pages load painfully slowly which makes doing anything with vampire a pain in the neck. Will look tongiht though as I have a couple of good ideas. I reckon we do pork next. I have some historical stuff and can focus on that, but would really appreciate it if you did some more modern stuff in it. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 05:13, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Crap, I hadn't realised you'd already made a theoretical origins subpage. That section is really important to teh understanding of vampires. I haven't got Word here - can you give a word count and I'll post something to WT:FAC to get consensus on size. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 05:40, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Update - Wikipedia_talk:Featured_article_candidates#Getting_carried_away_with_article_size_.28ooops.29_vampire_at_FAC. Lets' see what everyone says. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 05:45, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Please relax its ok - the reason why causes trumps extra detail in folklore is it is central to why folks believed in the things in the first place. I am sorry about this but it is the easiest way to keep all our hard work in compartmentalised potential FAs and GAs. Yes, you can nominate for FT later, don't worry. Gimmetrow has been involve in FAC for a long time so looks like we're in the 'black' zone now. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 06:25, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

PS: If you do a word count you'll see there is still alot of material on folklore. If you really want to shift emphasis again it is your call as you're the nominator and I'll try to help but I reckon this is the way to go. The Barber book focusses almost entriely on theoretical stuff with folklore attributes interspersed throughout. It looks really good this way. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 06:27, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

PPS: Totally agree vampire folklore is a bit all over the place, but was a bit rushed. Too much happening of-keyboard. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 06:28, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Ok, in the last 48 hours I've had (1) significant health shock for immediate family member (2) hard drive crash which is sorta fixed sorta non-fixed (3) broken pipe and no water and plumber (4) fuckups with Xmas presents (large digital piano and Yamaha claiming it'll take 4 weeks to get 20 pissy little screws from Japan FFS (5) plastering on a wall which cannot proceed due to aforesaid pluming problem and (5) hot as fuck here too. So, yes, I am on a bit of a short fuse but this relaxes me. I will see what tweaks I can do. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 08:19, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
OK, I'll leave you to summarise Greek and Mesopotamian (and take some key regional folkloric facts from the new folklore page if you want). Also I nominated a couple of things for DYK as they are noth new pages :) ...I'll see what I can do with Theories as it is very idea-dense as it is. I really don't think it can be pared down much and needs to be a significant size as it is about the origins of beliefs. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 01:13, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Stop Press!!

I've had a think about it and let me know what you think. The only way I can really think of bringing Theoretical Origins odwn a bit in size without sacrificing quality is by removing my psychoanalytic section. That bit is probably a bit esoteric but the rest is really core stuff. Would you be happy if we reinstated the trimmed bit I had there last with the psychoanalitic (hate spelling that word) on the sub-page? cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 01:21, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Listen - the theoretical origins bit is 1100 words out of a total of 9000 or so. Given this is an article about an imaginary creature it needs this much to avoid undue weight. It is not overkill. Like any article on a belief system to be scholarly or authoritative needs this. OK, I'll do the top stuff - not much to do and don't panic. It'll be OK. Take a break if stressed. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 04:14, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Re: Template help

Hm, define "assessment feature". ;-)

Current usage among different projects varies from the simplistic (a single class rating with no other functionality) to the quite complex ({{WPMILHIST}}!), and it's much easier to design towards a desired outcome from the beginning rather than adding in bits and pieces later. I'd be happy to implement any level of functionality for you guys, but it would help if you could be a bit more specific about what features you actually want.

(You might ask the rest of the project if they have any preferences, but that's entirely up to you.) Kirill 14:04, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Ok, done. You'll need to create the categories yourself, though. Kirill 00:04, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

Re the message you left on my talk page - just to say thank you, it's appreciated. - Shrivenzale (talk) 12:13, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Haha, thanks for the barnstar Spawn. I think it's the most poorly drawn barnstar I've ever received and, therefore, my favorite. Great work on the article. I wouldn't have even known where to begin on a subject like that. What are you and Cas doing next? --JayHenry (talk) 16:44, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Hmm, considering that all I did for that was comment briefly in the FAC (and maybe edit the article a very long time ago) this seems to be a bit of barnstar inflation... JoshuaZ (talk) 18:12, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I don't feel great about the mutilation of the article, but I feel we can get the folklore page up to FA then I'll be happy. Thanks for the barnstarcheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 22:08, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, as well! (Casliber, don't worry. The article may look mutilated to you because you know it so well, but when I reread it for FAC, it actually looked a lot better. No worries about mutilation at all. The same thing happened to me with Joseph Priestley - when we get too close, removing anything at a certain point starts to look like open-heart surgery.) Awadewit | talk 22:13, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
Just wanted to chip in my thanks and congratulate you all on a job well done. Rufous-crowned Sparrow (talk) 02:27, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
I hereby award Spawn Man the Vampire Barnstar for his excellent work improving Vampire to Featured Article status. Kaldari (talk) 17:07, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the barnstar. Glad my criticism was useful. Hope you didn't take it too personally :) The final product is top notch. Congratulations. I think you deserve the vampire barnstar far more than us! Kaldari (talk) 17:07, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Moto Racer cover.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Moto Racer cover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Project FMF (talk) 04:25, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Cryptozoology pages

Hi Spawn, sorry I didn't get back to you. I'm perfectly willing to work with you if you've mended you ways - in fact, let's start now.

I notice we probably hold similar views on cryptozoology, and I think the subject needs stronger directions and more critical editing. I think we could help each other out on cutting some of the crazy down to size, and try to give a clearer picture of what's possible and even plausible, and what's complete antiscientific bunk.

The List of cryptids article seems to be a good place to start.

This WikiProject is having a revival and is trying to determine the direction it will be heading in the future. Questions are being asked, and exciting things are coming in the future, including the bringing of 1345 and other year articles to GA and even FA status. You are listed as a member and are invited to respond to this roll-call by putting an asterisk next to your username on the members list to show that you are still active in the project. Thanks.
