Ada Lovelace Day:
24-Hour Global Edit-a-thon
12 October 2021
Welcome to WikiProject Women in Red (WiR)! |
---|
Our objective is to turn red links into blue ones. Our project's scope is women's representation on all language Wikipedias (biographies, women's works, women's issues, broadly construed). Did you know that, according to Humaniki, only 19.94% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women? Not impressed? Content gender gap is a form of systemic bias, and this is what WiR addresses. We invite you to participate, whenever you like, in whatever way suits you and your schedule. Editors of all genders are equally and warmly welcome at Women in Red! |
- Welcome!

Given the success of our presentations at Wikimedia and the need to attract more contributors to write about women and their works, on 12 October on Ada Lovelace Day we are organizing a round-the-clock online recruitment drive, including inspiring presentations and extensive support around the globe. We are planning three or more two-hour on-line events in Australia/New Zealand, Europe and the United States, which will be focused on encouraging new contributors and inexperienced editors to create their first article about women.
By means of simply presented exercises in the basic features of Wikipedia editing, we hope to see newcomers embark on their first creative assignments. A week later, on 19th? October, we will review results to date and offer advice for the future. Those of you who have not yet dared to create new articles will finally be guided on the road to success, both through these events and by personal mentoring.
More precise details of the on-line presentations will be included as they evolve.
