Japanese Events in London

Hello there,

Would anyone be able to tell me of either some regular events or of a calendar of sporadic events promoting Japanese language/culture/etc in London? Or of some where simply people can go and meet Japanese people. I have just moved back to the UK after 2 years there and am really keen to make some new Japanese friends.

Any ideas?

Classical song with hammers in the background

Please forgive the manner in which I ask the question. What is the name of the classical song with hammers? It has a very slow tempo and goes something like this: Da - da - da - dada - dada - dada - dadaaaaaaaa - da. Every few seconds you hear the "dong" of the hammer and bell in the background. They've played it on commercials and old cartoons about someone working very hard. I don't know why, but I have the song stuck in my head. It's strange because I haven't actually heard the song for years. --Ghostexorcist (talk) 05:04, 8 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The "Anvil Chorus" from Il trovatore by Giuseppe Verdi. --Jayron32 05:17, 8 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, I don't think that's it. It goes da-da-da-da-da-da-daaaa-daaaa-daaaa-daa-daa-(goes higher)daa-daa. Unless this isn't what I'm thinking of.
Maybe it is "In the Hall of the Mountain King" from the Peer Gynt Suite by Edvard Grieg.

Top Gear

I've only seen about a dozen episodes of Top Gear and really like the show. I've been wondering though... Have any of the three guys ever failed a challenge and resorted to driving the much dreaded Volkswagen Beetle? And just out of curiosity, is there anywhere online, other than the iTunes store, where I can download/view episodes? I've been getting my episodes from iTunes but they only have a couple seasons/series. Dismas|(talk) 01:00, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah James May had to use a car owned by Carla Brunai or someone like that to compete in a snow circuit race as his car didn't cope with the conditions or something... It wasn't a Beetle that time, but another type of car that has a cult following and the owners club complain whenever they use it as they always ridicule it...
And yes, they dropped a piano on it again... Gazhiley (talk) 10:14, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Dave" is a cable channel on freeview, sky, VM etc that used to be UKTVgold2 back in the day... They are basically a BBC repeat channel, although independantely owned as far i know... The show pretty much wall to wall bbc shows from the past year or so, and often multiple episodes back to back - Top gear is a regularly shown programme, often with about 4 episodes a day... There is a page on Wikipedia but i can't remember how to link to it - It's called "Dave (Tv Channel)" Gazhiley (talk) 11:37, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Dave it is. It was either the wife of the president of France or the wife of the president of the Morris Marina Owners' Club (French branch, presumably) that owned it previously. I believe it was left deliberately vague for humour; decide for yourself which is most likely. Vimescarrot (talk) 14:57, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ah! I see. Thanks again. Dismas|(talk) 15:19, 10 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
"Cable channel on freeview"? Freeview is digital terrestrial radio, cable is TV through fibre optic cables - you can't have a cable channel on freeview, that's a contradiction in terms. --Tango (talk) 22:54, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Music festival?

How can you find the information about music festival? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pthaipetkul (talkcontribs) 03:27, 10 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

First, I would identify the name of the music festival you're talking about. Failing that, I would determine the location of the music festival. Then I would use Google to search for either the name of the festival (e.g. "bumbershoot"), or for the location of the music festival, along with, perhaps, the words "music festival" (e.g. "seattle music festival"). Multiple-piano classroom in Fame (2009 film)

Are there actually music classrooms (like at a High School of Performing Arts) with rows of pianos on which the pupils are seated in pairs and play four-hands in unison? Shape of My Heart

Hi. Please point me to the correct article. I remember a song that has the following lines:

I know that spades are the swords of a soldier
And clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds ...
But that's not the shape of my heart
That's not the shape, shape of my heart

Now what song is this? There's an article on a song that has this title, but that's definitely not it. It has to be one of the other songs with the same title. I also don't remember the entire line involving diamonds and some of the words may be wrong because I'm writing this from memory. Thanks. ~AH1(TCU) 01:27, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I put "spades are the swords of a soldier" into Google, and it came up with this Sting song:

I know that diamonds mean money for this art
But that's not the shape of my heart

Is this the one? →Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 01:31, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I was reading about misanthropy a while back, and there was a section showing examples of misanthropy in Pop Culture. One of the categories gave examples of songs misanthropic in nature, such as "Do the Evolution" by Pearl Jam and "People=Shit" by Slipknot. However, when I went back to the article, that part of the section was gone. What happened?

Hi. Here is one portion of the song:

Wah can't we beh friends
Oh, wah can't we beh friends
Oh wah can't we beh fri-ends
Wah can't we be friends

I don't know the title of the song, nor the genre, nor when it was written. I've spelt some words the way they are pronounced in the song ("wah" for why, "beh" for be, and "friends" is pronounced frayends, and it's possible that this comes from the soundtrack for a certain movie. Song in “The Invention of Lying”

Can anyone tell me the name of a song from the move “The Invention of Lying”? It plays during a montage scene in the middle of the film and is mostly a woman whispering/singing over a heavy, repetitive organ line. There’s also a xylophone part which gets louder towards the end. I can tell you it’s not the Electric Light Orchestra theme, this song is much more subdued.
