Bawls Guarana is a highly caffeinated soft drink containing natural Guarana flavor and a relatively high amount of caffeine, amongst other ingredients. BAWLS products are owned by BAWLS Acquisition of Miami, Florida.

Packaging

BAWLS Guarana is packaged in a trademarked cobalt blue, non-slip, glass bottle, while BAWLS eXXtra comes in a clear bottle. Both containers are covered in approximately 122 bumps to increase the traction of the container in an individual's hands, and BAWLS Mints feature 207 artificial bumps on the tin, with no texture. The bumps also add to the distinctive look of the BAWLS bottle. In early fall 2006, the bottle design underwent a small change that increased the size of the words "BAWLS" and "Guarana." An alternate packaging sometimes available at paintball fields has multi-colored "paintball splatters" and is sometimes called "PaintBAWLS."

Aside from being available in glass bottles, it can also be packaged for shipping overseas to U.S. military APO's/FPO's. The "Military Gift Pack" or "M-Pack" consists of the 16oz aluminum cans rather than glass bottles in order to save money on shipping and reduce the risk of spoilage. Cans of BAWLS are designed to imitate the bottles by having 59 white circles using a color changing ink as they become cold.[1]

Product Line

Cherry Bawls

BAWLS Guarana

The original flavor. This product comes in the Trademarked 10oz cobalt blue glass bottle and a 16oz can.

BAWLS Guarana Exxtra

Bawls Guarana Exxtra (formerly Bawls Guaranexx) is a sugar-free version of BAWLS Guarana that has double the amount of caffeine. It is sweetened with sucralose. This product comes in a 10oz clear glass bottle and a 16oz can.[2]

BAWLS Cherry

On May 1, 2007, Bawls released BAWLS Cherry, is an extension of the original, but with cherry flavoring. This product currently comes in a 16oz can. The can is red with white circles that change to blue when the drink is cold. Additionally, BAWLS Cherry is sweetened with high fructose corn syrup instead of corn syrup like the original flavor.

Work is currently in progress to put BAWLS Cherry into the Trademarked glass bottle as their other products are. The original intent was for the glass to be red, but red glass was found to be too expensive.

BAWLS G33K B33R

A guarana spiked, high-caffeine root beer called "G33K B33R" is the newest flavor of BAWLS. It comes in the Trademarked 10oz bumpy glass bottle, similar to the original BAWLS bottle, except it is brown. This product was released on April 1, 2008 online and in select stores.

BAWLS MINTS

BAWLS Mints, consist of the same content as the regular BAWLS drinks, only in a candy form. They replaced a previous similar product called "Bawls Buzz" that had a different formuation. They are small blue tablets, and are carbonated, giving an effect similar to that of Pop Rocks though much milder. Each mint contains about 1 mg of caffeine "via Guarana & pure caffeine." These candies can be put into a bottle of Bawls to rapidly release the carbonation of the drink and mint to produce a large head of foam which often overflows. This is called a "Fizzing Blue Bawls." BAWLS Mints can be found at ThinkGeek.com. Bawls Buzz was featured on Food Network's Unwrapped.[3]

Guaran - Tea'd

It has been noted that (from the makers of) BAWLS has been working on a new tea product. The flavors in consideration are Original, Legendary Lemon, and Monkey Mango. Here is an art conception of the bottles.

SnoBAWLS

SnoBAWLS is a frozen version of BAWLSs containing similar flavoring and caffeine content. (SnoBAWLS contains 120 mg of caffeine per serving.) SnoBAWLS is available at 7-Eleven locations in the following metro areas:[4]

Culture

BAWLS has been targeting consumers in urban areas such as New York City, Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis, and Kansas City as well as gamers and different kinds of sports, such as motocross, BMX and paintball. BAWLS also sponsored 24-Hour Comics Day, and gave away cases to comic stores holding the event.

BAWLS has also been featured in Run Like Hell as a health item in vending machines, and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel which replaced the series' signature drink, Nuka-Cola.

Caffeine content

For "regular" formula, a 10 oz. bottle of BAWLS contains 64 mg of caffeine and a 16 oz. can has 103 mg of caffeine; a 16 oz. can of BAWLS "Exxtra" contains 150 mg of caffeine. For reference, a 12 oz. can of Coca-Cola usually contains 34.5 mg of caffeine.[5] An 8 oz. serving of brewed coffee generally contains between 60 and 120 mg of caffeine and a 16 oz. can of Monster Energy contains 160 mg of caffeine.[6][7]
