Ebionites 3 arbitration case opened
You recently offered a statement in a request for arbitration. The Arbitration Committee has accepted that request for arbitration and an arbitration case has been opened at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Ebionites 3. Evidence that you wish the arbitrators to consider should be added to the evidence subpage, at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Ebionites 3/Evidence. Please add your evidence by October 1, 2013, which is when the evidence phase closes. You can also contribute to the case workshop subpage, Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Ebionites 3/Workshop. WikiCup 2013 September newsletter
In 30 days, we will know the identity of our 2013 WikiCup champion. Cwmhiraeth (submissions) currently leads; if that lead is held, she will become the first person to have won the WikiCup twice.
Sasata (submissions),
Hawkeye7 (submissions)—who has never participated in the competition before—and
Casliber (submissions) follow. The majority of points in this round have come from a mix of good articles and bonus points. This final round is seeing contributions to a number of highly important topics; recent submissions include Phoenix (constellation) (FA by Casliber), Ernest Lawrence (GA by Hawkeye7), Pinniped, and red fox (both GAs by Sasata).
The did you know (DYK) eligibility criteria have recently changed, meaning that newly passed good articles are accepted as "new" for did you know purposes. However, in the interests of not changing the WikiCup rules mid-competition, please note that only articles eligible for DYK under the old system (that is, newly created articles or 5x expansions) will be eligible for points in this year's WikiCup. We do, however, have time to discuss how this new system will work for next year's competition; a discussion will be opened in due course. On that note, thoughts are welcome on changes you'd like to see for next year. What worked? What didn't work? What would you like to see more of? What would you like to see less of? All Wikipedians, new or old, are also warmly invited to sign up for the 2014 WikiCup.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to reduce the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Two enthusiastic admins both protecting Ethics
Hi Ks0stm. I didn't change your Pending Changes setting on Ethics on purpose — I think we must have been fiddling with the protection panel simultaneously, see the timestamps. My semi is apparently what's currently in force. Please change it if you like, any way you like. Bishonen | talk 20:37, 2 October 2013 (UTC).
- I'll just stick the pending changes back on there for the one month in addition to your short semi-protection. Should work fine that way. Ks0stm (T•C•G•E) 20:38, 2 October 2013 (UTC)
I-470 photos
See commons:Category:Kansas Turnpike. I don't have a whole lot I-470 related, but there's at least a few photos (including the terminus). One of those and something from free I-470 would probably be good for balance, if you can scrounge one up. —Scott5114↗ [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 17:36, 4 October 2013 (UTC)
- I'm sure I can get a picture of the free section next time I'm in Topeka (when I'm there I frequently travel between Wanamaker and I-70), but at this point that won't be until December. I'll have a look through the category and see if any of the pictures of the turnpike portion are suitable and I'll also consider trying to get a photo of the turnpike portion when I'm next in Topeka. Manning sanctions in Sexology?
Hi, Ks0stm,
I was looking at the Sexology case and found sanctions for Editors involved in the Manning case to be listed here Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Sexology#Sanctions. While both topics can involve gender, none of the parties are the same and so I don't see what the connection is. Liz Read! Talk! 18:20, 5 October 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Liz...sorry for the lateness of the reply; I've been away this weekend. The reason users involved in the Manning dispute can be listed under the Sexology case is Sexology case remedy 4.1, which authorizes standard discretionary sanctions in part for all articles related to transgender issues; this includes the Manning article and related articles. Suppress diff
Hey, hope you don't mind me reaching directly out to you, but I'm going to say this diff really needs to be suppressed. Thanks for the help! — MusikAnimal talk 18:28, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
- No problem...Revdel'd. It doesn't quite fit with the criteria for oversight in my opinion and revdel should suffice. Ks0stm (T•C•G•E) 18:32, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
- Works for me, but to what degree then would oversight be needed? I suppose what I read was not exactly a direct threat, but the context in which the subject was placed I felt was a bit aggressive. What comes to mind for me is what has happened to a few poorly judged individuals on Twitter in the past. What are your thoughts? — MusikAnimal talk 19:45, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
- To me it qualified as RD3 and RD2, however I did not feel that it rose to the level of the oversight criteria. To me, the line would have been crossed had the edit also included defamation/libel BLP issues, but to me it fell short of that standard. As for the threat, I'm not convinced that that requires oversight, but if you feel that it does I would be happy to start a discussion on the oversight mailing list if you want. October 2013 Upper Midwest tornado
I saw your endorsement of the deletion and have considered moving the article to October 3-5, 2013 tornado outbreak, which is a plausible redirect for a merge, which seems likely at this point. What do you think? TornadoLGS (talk) 20:23, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

Suppressing an edit
Hi Ks0stm, can you suppress one diff so that it is not visible to others? I do not want anyone to see someone's personal information on this diff. Please also suppress this diff and this diff. Thanks. Jianhui67 talk★contribs 11:55, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

User 98.197.200.120
Hello! A week ago you blocked this user for 60 hours, then removed a nonsensical rant from their talk page. They have now posted the same nonsensical rant on their talk page again. Looking at their history, they have been here since January and that is all they have EVER done: posted capital-letter incoherent rants, in Spanish or Spanglish, about Queen Sardigna and Queen Mary and Jesus Denazaret. I wondered if you might consider a permanent block since the account has never been used for constructive purposes. Thanks for taking a look. --MelanieN (talk) 19:47, 15 October 2013 (UTC)
- Never mind! I see that they did it again, after the block expired, and got blocked again, this time for 2 weeks. If they do it again I will consider going to AN/I and asking for a permanent ban. --MelanieN (talk) 17:54, 22 October 2013 (UTC)

Congratulations to everyone who has been successful in this year's WikiCup, whether you made it to the final rounds or not, and a particular congratulations to the newcomers to the WikiCup who have achieved this year. Thanks to all who have taken part and helped out with the competition. While it has been an excellent year, errors have opened up the judges' eyes to the need for a third judge, and it is with pleasure that we announce that experienced WikiCup participant Miyagawa will be acting as a judge from now on. We hope you will all join us in welcoming him to the team.
Next year's competition begins on 1 January. You are invited to sign up to participate; it is open to all Wikipedians, new and old. Brainstorming and discussion remains open for how next year's competition will work, and straw polls will be opened by the judges soon. Those interested in friendly competition may also like to keep an eye on the stub contest, being organised by Casliber. The WikiCup judges will be back in touch over the coming months, and we hope to see you all in the 2014 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement!
