Abhimanyu Sindhu aka Captain Abhimanyu (born - 18 December 1967) is a popular Indian Jat politician, Journalist, Educationist, Activist and Philanthropist belonging to the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).[1]

His academic credentials include Bachelor of Commerce, LLB[2], Postgraduate diploma in Mass Communication[3] and a 2-years Owner's/President Management Program from the Harvard Business School, at Harvard University.[4]

He served as Captain in the Indian Army for 6 years. After which he was selected for the prestigious Civil Services of India (ICS) (Hindi: भारतीय प्रशासनिक सेवा) but he chose not to join to pursue philanthropic and social service work.[5] He is the founding proprietor and Editor-in-chief of the Hindi daily Hari Bhoomi.[6][7]

Abhimanyu Sindhu holds or has held several prominent BJP party positions including the BJP National Spokesperson, BJP National General Secretary, BJP General Secretary of Haryana, BJP's in-charge of Punjab state, & BJP's co-in-charge of the state of Uttar Pradesh campaign during Indian General Election, 2014.[8][9][10][11][12][13]

In 2004, 2005 and 2009, as Bhartiya Janata Party's candidate, he has contested several elections as Member of Parliament, India (MP) to the Indian Lower House of Parliament Lok Sabha from Rohtak Lok Sabha constituency.[14][15]

In 2004, 2005 and 2009 he also contested the election for the position of Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) as BJP's candidate from Narnaund in Haryana Vidhan Sabha constituency.[16][17][18][19][20][21][22]

He is also the President of Haryana Archery Association[23] and Associate Vice President of the Archery Association of India.[24][25][26]

Academics

In 1986, Captain Abhimanyu did his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak.

In 2005, he also completed LLB from the Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak.[27]

In 2007, He did his Postgraduate diploma in Mass Communication from the Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar[28]

From 2013-20016, he pursued the Owner's/President Management Program, a three year part-time executive management program from the Harvard Business School, at Harvard University.[29]

Career in the Indian Army

In 1987, he joined Indian Army and passed out as Second Lieutenant on 5th March, 1988 to serve in 7 Mechanized Infantry Regiment (1 Dogra) as a Commissioned Officer.

During his Army tenure (1987-1993), he did Young Officers Course (Infantry), Mechanical Infantry Course, Guns and Missiles Course, and Elite Commando Course.

In 1989, he was awarded Special Services Medal (Desert).

Career in Civil Services of India (ICS)

In 1994, he was selected for the prestigious Civil Services of India (ICS) (Hindi: भारतीय प्रशासनिक सेवा) but he chose not to join so that he can serve the nation through philanthropic and social service work.[30][31]

Career as Journalist

Capt Abhimanyu is the founding proprietor and Editor-in-chief of the Hindi daily Hari Bhoomi[32][33] newspaper in Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and parts of Delhi and Odisha, which is the 11th largest Hindi Daily in India, as per IRS 2012 (Indian Readership Survey) Q-IV (AIR), with average issue readership of 13,30,000 readers and a total readership of 42,03,000 readers. [34]

Work as Philanthropist & Educationalist

With a working experience of more than 27 years in different fields from defence to business, social activities to media as a journalist, sport administration to being an educationalist and now a full time political activist, Capt Abhimanyu believes education is the key solution to core problems of the country and for this purpose he established Indus Group of Institutions and is actively involved with the management of Delhi Public Schools at various places.

He has also helped in establishing Gurukuls in various regions of Orissa, Uttarakhand, Haryana and Chhattisgarh – through his family supported organizations Param Mitra Manav Nirman Sansthan and Sindhu Education Foundation. The organizations particularly promote girl’s education and provide help to children of weaker sections by giving them scholarships free books and uniforms.

Work for Sports Promotion

He is also a sports enthusiast who enjoys biking and horse riding.

He is also the President of Haryana Archery Association[35] and Associate Vice President of the Archery Association of India[36][37][38]. For promotion of the sports of Archery, he organizes annual national-level Archery sports competition in Rohtak Haryana.

Captain on India’s Political Radar

Capt Abhimanyu is the most dynamic face of BJP in Haryana and his role in strengthening the party in Haryana is of paramount importance and widely recognized.[39][40]

1990s

In his political career spanning over 16 years now, Capt Abhimanyu has left lasting imprints on people’s heart by virtue of his hard work and dedication. He is a foot soldier and comprehends socio–economic issues at the bottom of the pyramid with great simplicity. He has worked extensively in rural areas through the sun and scorch and enjoys immense popularity among rural and urban masses. This has enabled him to generate solutions which can be easily delivered to the public.

In 1997, he joined the senior BJP leader Shri L. K. Advani’s Swarna Jayanti Rath Yatra and mobilized milling crowds for the cause. During Lok Sabha elections, he was the Election agent and Co-ordinator of Swami Indravesh in 1998, the BJP candidate from Rohtak. He was Election agent and Co-ordinator of Dr Sahib Singh Verma, former Chief Minister of Delhi; and successfully managed the entire election campaign of the biggest Lok Sabha constituency of India, Outer Delhi in 1999.

2000 to 2005

In 2003, he assisted the member of Election Management team with his inputs for Vidhan Sabha elections in Chhattisgarh.

In 2004, he has the unique distinction of organizing two rallies of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, one of the most adored Prime Minister of India, at Jhajjar and Rohtak within a span of one year between 2004 and 2005.

In 2004, he contested from Rohtak Lok Sabha Parliamentary constituency as BJP's Member of Parliament, India (MP) candidate against Shri Bhupinder Singh Hooda, the then state congress President. The contest created a major political furore as Capt Abhimanyu finished second with 1,73,800 votes and the Indian National Lok Dal candidate lost his security deposit. [41]

In 2005, during by-election to Rohtak Lok Sabha Parliamentary constituency, he contested against Depender Singh Hooda- son of Shri Bhupinder Singh Hooda Chief Minister, Haryana as BJP's Member of Parliament, India (MP) candidate and finished second.[42]

In 2005, Captain was appointed as the General Secretary of Haryana BJP unit in 2005[43].

In 2005, he also contested and lost the election for the position of Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in Legislative Assembly of Haryana as BJP's candidate from Narnaund.[44]

2005 to 2010

During 2007-2009, Captain Abhimanyu conceptualized and steered many innovative campaigns like Deenbandhu Prerna Rally, Jal Adhikar Rally, Bijli Khoj Rally, Vijay Sankalp Yatra, Save Democracy Rally, Ram Sethu Movement and Jhajjar Vijay Sankalp Rally to name a few. His innovative ideas and rallies captured the imagination of top BJP leaders like Shri Rajnath Singh, Shri Narendra Modi, Shri Venkaiah Naidu, Smt Sushma Swaraj, Shri Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Dr. Raman Singh and Shri Murli Manohar Joshi, who addressed these rallies held in different parts of Haryana from time to time.

In 2008, he campaigned extensively in Rajasthan Legislative Assembly of Rajasthan and Delhi Legislative Assembly of Delhi elections.

In 2009, he contested and lost the election for the position of Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in Legislative Assembly of Haryana as BJP's candidate from Narnaund.[45][46]
