    Got a script for MOS:DATERANGE?

Hey friends, does anybody have a quick fix-it local javascript to adjust date ranges per MOS:DATERANGE? I'm looking at List of programs previously broadcast by NBC and I see a lot of stuff that doesn't conform. 1961–1964 should be 1961–64. Things of that nature that take into consideration all of the specifics of MOS:DATERANGE. Thanks. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 03:48, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure that's fixable by script. Consider the following sentence: "John Smith (1950–2010), the son of James Smith (1910–1960), was the first chairman (1989–1991), followed by John Jones (1991–1995)." The first two date ranges should not be abbreviated because they are YOB-YOD ranges (and the first also spans a century change), but the second two should be. Knowing the context is impossible for a script. BencherliteTalk 10:32, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Cyphoidbomb: Everything Bencherlite said is correct, there's no way an automatic script would work for all pages, but because we know this page doesn't have any YOB-YOD ranges we can let AWB loose on it. I've written a find and replace routine in AWB and it looks like its worked OK. The only things it missed were the oddities where the show had multiple ranges, but there's only a few of those, so doing them by hand should be easy now the bulk of the work has been done. I've checked the page over and can't see any errors, can you give it a once over and let me know if you spot anything. - X201 (talk) 11:16, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Bencherlite and X201: Very good points and I appreciate the edification. Thanks for doing the bulk changes X. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:14, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hon. Lalith Athulthmudali P.C ( Sri Lanka Minister)

    Dear Wikepedia,

Late Lalith Athulathmudali was a relative of mine and a friend. He did not go to Harvard as Your Page had written. He obtained Masters Degree from Stanford Univesity USA. Please research and change your page

The article's current information is sourced, albeit by a source with unclear fact-checking (rootwebs). Please provide an independent reliable source for your information and post your suggested change at the article's talkpage. (The affected articles would be Lalith Athulathmudali and List of Harvard University people, if someone else wants to research this request). GermanJoe (talk) 12:45, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
So far, all three references I've found say Harvard: the Asian Tribune states "He passed his Barrister- At- Law from Harvard University"; Charisma: Lalith Athulathmudali, a fiftieth year volume says "Three years later at Harvard University he got his LLM with an "A" Average. The thesis he wrote at Harvard in now among its Permanent Collection."; and War Or Peace in Sri Lanka reports a telephone conversation with a friend, who says, "How the hell can you do that, if despite your education at Royal, Oxford and Harvard you use a string of epithets ..." Clarityfiend (talk) 10:38, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Here's a stronger reference. Worldcat lists his thesis, "The law of defamation in Ceylon : a study in the inter-action of English and Roman-Dutch law.", and the entry says Harvard.[1] Clarityfiend (talk) 10:43, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Professor Dr.-Ing., Dr. h.c. mult, Dr. E.h. mult, Hon Prof. mult. José Luis Encarnação

This is not the place for a draft article

José Luis Encarnação was born in Portugal, passed there the school “Escola Salesiana do Estoril”, and is living in the Federal Republic of Germany since 1959. Since 1975 he was a full professor of Computer Science at the Technische Universität Darmstadt (TUD), Germany, and the head of the Interactive Graphics Research Group (TUD-GRIS). Since October 2009 he is Professor Emeritus of the TUD. From 1987 to 2006 he was the founding director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics (IGD) in Darmstadt and retired from the Fraunhofer in 2006. He founded in 1999 the INI-GraphicsNet, an International Network of Institutions for R&D and Applications in Computer Graphics, today a network of legally independent but closely networking and cooperating research entities in Germany, Italy, Panama, Portugal and Spain, that signs since 2010 as a holding under the new name “GraphicsMedia.net GmbH”. Professor Encarnação was in 1980 one of the founders of EUROGRAPHICS, the European Association for Computer Graphics, from 1980 to 1984 its first chairman and from 1985 to 1991 the chairman of its Professional Board.

Professor Encarnação holds a diploma (Dipl.-Ing.) and a doctorate (Dr.-Ing.) in electrical engineering from the Technische Universität Berlin (TUB), where he completed his Ph.D. studies as a holder of a scholarship of the Gulbenkian Foundation. In 1967, he started his career in Computer Graphics at the TUB and at the Heinrich-Hertz-Institute in Berlin. Before moving to Darmstadt in 1975, he held research and academic positions at the Heinrich-Hertz-Institute in Berlin (1968-1972) and at the Universität Saarbrücken (1972-1975). He had since 1975 several offers to assume professor and research positions in USA, Portugal and Germany, which he declined. Instead he remained in Darmstadt, where he founded between 1975 and 2009 at Fraunhofer IGD (1987), the INI-GraphicsNet (1999) and several Start-Ups. Professor Encarnação is author or co-author of more than 500 Publications in reviewed International Journals and Conferences and was the responsible advisor or co-advisor of more than 200 doctoral thesis in Computer Graphics and related areas. Some of his doctoral students (around 40) assumed professor positions in prestigious universities in Europe, specially in Germany.

From 1995 to 2001 he was an elected member of the Senate of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (FhG) in Munich and from 2002 to 2006 he was a member of the Advisory Board (Präsidium) of this German Association for Applied Research. From July 2001 to October 2006 he was the chairman of the Fraunhofer ICT Group (Information and Communication Technology Group consisting of 17 institutes with about 3,000 employees and a total, joint budget of ca. 200 million EUR in 2006). From 2001 to 2007 Professor Encarnação was a member of the EU-Advisory Board (called ISTAG) for the EU 6th and 7th framework programme for the ICT area. He was chairman of this board from 2002 to 2004 and its vice-chairman from 2005 to 2007.

Besides several honours, he was awarded with the German Federal Service Cross in 1983, with the German Federal Service Cross First Class in 1995 and with the Big Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2006. The country of Portugal honoured him with the “Ordem Militar de Santiago de Espada” in 2001. The German Federal State of Hesse awarded to him the “Hessischer Kulturpreis” in 2000. He was awarded from 1991 to 2014 in recognition of his technical and scientific achievements with several honorary doctorates (Dr.h.c. and Dr.E.h.): from the Universidade Técnica (IST) in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1991; from the Universiät Rostock, Germany, in 1996; from the Universidade do Minho, Portugal, in 2002; from the Nanyang Technogical University in Singapore, in 2008, and from the Technische Universität Berlin, Germany, in 2014. In 2001 he was elected full academy member of the “Berlin-Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschaften” (BBAW, the former Leibniz Academy) and in 2002 he became a full academy member in the German Academy of Sience and Technology (acatech).

For outstanding professional, technical and scientific achievements with a strong impact in science and industry he received, among other awards, the Karl-Heinz-Beckurts Award in 1989, the Steven A. Coons Award from ACM-SIGGRAPH (USA) in 1995, the Konrad-Zuse-Medal by the German Computer Society (GI) in 1997, the Fraunhofer Medal from the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft in 2001 and the Golden Honorary Medal of the Universität Rostock in 2012.

Professor Encarnação is today active as a Senior Technology and Innovation Advisor to Governments, to multinational companies, to Research Institutions and Organisations and to Foundations. He is strongly involved in the development of Research Agendas and Innovation Strategies for Socio-Economic Development, specially in Emerging Economies, and is also very active in and strongly contributing to the ICT and the ICT related activities of the Academies (acatech and BBAW).

This is not the place for a draft article, so I have collapsed its display. You need to read WP:Your first article, and WP:Autobiography. When you do produce a draft article (hopefully on another subject rather than on yourself) you need to understand that notability must be demonstrated by references to published reliable sources independent of the subject. A draft can then be submitted through the AFC process which allows it to be reviewed. --David Biddulph (talk) 13:17, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict)The above text appears to be a copy of this document. If you would like to write an article on José Luis Encarnação you can begin at Wikipedia:Your first article as David Biddulph suggests, however please keep in mind what David Biddulph said about multiple independent reliable sources discussing Professor Encarnação in detail in order to establish notability per WP:GNG. The document you have copied can be used as a source, but it cannot be copied verbatim as it is here. Good luck. -Thibbs (talk) 13:22, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Today I tried to edit this page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_online_dating_websites and I wanted to add the info about my site too, as it is actuality on-line dating site too, but my attempt was declined as for: Reverted good faith edits by Alisa Mas (talk): No Wikipedia article = no entry in the list. So, I understand that we have no article, this is the reason we can not be in the list?

So, we want to contribute and place an article, but I can not see how I can do it? Would you please help?

Best regards, Alisa Maskadynya — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alisa Mas (talkcontribs) 14:01, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You can find information on writing articles at Wikipedia:Your first article, but you should be aware that writing about your own company is likely to fall afoul of our Conflict of Interest policy. If you would like to request that an article be written about your company then you can do so here. Please remember to include links to reliable third-party sources with your request in order to establish the notability of the topic. Good luck. -Thibbs (talk) 14:06, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

    CRISPR PAGE

JYTDOG had a patent section that was inaccurate and defamatory. When I posted the CORRECT AND ACCURATE and non-defamatory information today, JYTDOG took it down, maintaining the inaccurate and defamatory information. I have again corrected the CRISPR page by TOTALLY ELIMINATING the defamatory and inaccurate patent information with the correct and accurate information, namely:"The laboratory of Feng Zhang and The Broad Institute have been GRANTED ELEVEN US PATENTS pertaining to CRISPR: US 8,945,839; 8,932,814; 8,906,616; 8,895,308; 8,889,418; 8,889,356; 8,871,445; 8,865,406; 8,795,965; 8,771,945 and 8,697,359. The laboratory of Feng Zhang and The Broad Institute also have TWO FURTHER ALLOWED US APPLICATIONS: US 14/226,274 and 14/105,017. The laboratory of Feng Zhang and The Broad Institute also have A GRANTED EUROPEAN PATENT: EP 2771468. The laboratory of Feng Zhang and The Broad Institute also have AN ACCEPTED EUROPEAN PATENT APPLICATION: EP 14170383.5. ALL TOLD, AS OF THE END OF FEBRUARY 2015, THE FENG ZHANG LABORATORY AND THE BROAD INSTITUTE HAVE HAD FIFTEEN ALLOWED PATENT APPLICATIONS PERTAINING TO CRISPR (11 granted US patents, 1 granted European patent, 2 further allowed US applications, and 1 allowed European patent application). The University of California / University of Vienna / Doudna / Charpentier group has two pending patent applications: US 13/842,859 and EP 2800811. These two pending patent applications claim priority from US 61/652,086, filed 25 May 2012 (P1); US 61/716,256, filed 19 Oct 2012 (P3); and US 61/757,640, filed 28 Jan 2013 (P3). There are numerous Third Party Submissions against US 13/842,859. There are numerous Third Party Observations filed against EP 2800811. One of the Third Party Observations cites the allowance in US 14/226,274 because in that allowance of the Feng Zhang laboratory / Broad Institute patent application, the US Patent & Trademark Office stated that P1 and P2 of the University of California / University of Vienna / Doudna / Charpentier group are NOT ENABLED as to working the CRISPR-Cas system in eukaryotic cells. The US Patent & Trademark Office issued a similar statement that P1 and P2 of the University of California / University of Vienna / Doudna / Charpentier group are NOT ENABLED as to working the CRISPR-Cas system in eukaryotic cells in the allowance of Feng Zhang laboratory / Broad Institute patent application US 14/105,017. Another of the Third Party Observations filed against EP 2800811 cites a paper filed in US application 14/318,933, a Harvard University patent application that has as one of the named inventors George Church, because in that paper it is asserted (on behalf of Harvard University and inventors including George Church) that P1 and P2 of the University of California / University of Vienna / Doudna / Charpentier group are NOT ENABLED as to working the CRISPR-Cas system in eukaryotic cells." IT IS ASKED THAT THE FOREGOING TEXT BE MAINTAINED ON THE CRISPR WIKI PAGE AS IT IS ACCURATE AND CORRECT AND NON-DEFAMATORY WHEREAS THE PREVIOUS INFORMATION BY JYTDOG WAS WRONG, INACCURATE AND DEFAMATORY. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.81.220.63 (talk) 18:55, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You replaced sourced material with unsourced, & you also deleted a number of sections from the latter part of the article. Your edits have therefore been reverted. If you can provide references to published reliable sources to support the material you wish to ask, please try again, or preferably discuss the matter on the article's talk page. - David Biddulph (talk) 19:18, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The problem with your edit last October was that you added <ref name=undefined /> at the top of the page. This was corrected for you in this later edit. The error message contained the words "help page" in blue, indicating that they were a wikilink, in this case to Help:Cite errors/Cite error references no text. --David Biddulph (talk) 19:47, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

How do I change the name of an article?

    Hi Wikipedia team,

Hello @Bobowikibobo:, see Wikipedia:Extended image syntax for a complete description of image parameters. WP:CAPTION contains useful (but quite lengthy) guidance about caption usage and formatting. GermanJoe (talk) 04:33, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
A quicker and simpler way is to open any Wikipedia section containing a similar caption in your edit window to see how it's done. You could then paste the relevant section into your sandbox and edit it to insert your own image and caption.--Shantavira|feed me 09:29, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

    Question about patent citations

am trying to ensure that footnote / citation 106 in CRISPR Wiki page includes 'US Pats 8,945,839; 8,932,814; 8,906,616; 8,895,308; 8,889,418; 8,889,356; 8,871,445; 8,865,406; 8,795,965; 8,771,945; 8,697,359; US apps 14/226,274; 14/105,017; EP 2771468; EPA 14170383.5' as the actual patents and patent applications are the best evidence, most direct citation for the proposition; the article cited as footnote 106 is inaccurate, unsupported hearsay and at best a secondary citation -- not a primary citation (as again the actual patents / patent applications are the direct source, best citation, and allow the public to understand best the proposition and evaluate for themselves the patent landscape ... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 37.205.61.203 (talk) 16:30, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

As you have been told before, the place to discuss the changes with other editors is the article talk page. SHOUTING in the section heading here (or elsewhere) will discourage, rather than encourage, readers from reading what you are saying. --David Biddulph (talk) 16:34, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

    Saving the USS Ranger (CV-61)

    Off-topic

Good afternoon to how this my concern.

I'm part of a group that is trying to save our ship from being scraped. The government sold our ship for 1 penny, yes 1 whole cent!

The group SOS Save Ranger (Last Chance) has people that will donate millions of dollars to save our mighty ship. but the government is saying no to us. We want our Carrier the USS Ranger to become a museum in Long Beach, Cali. Our ship is the last of her kind the first angle deck carrier and the last of the super carriers her sister ships are being cut up now in Brownsville, Texas. Our ship means everything to us and that is why I am writing to you, to ask for your support to get the message out to the Chivers across our great country and world to tell the government to put the Ranger back on the Donation list. That is all we want is to get her back onto the donation list so we can make her a museum so people can see what a super carrier looks like inside and on the flight deck and deep down in her hull.

    https://www.change.org/p/the-united-states-navy-please-save-the-uss-ranger-from-being-demolished

Please go to this web page and sign our petition so we can save her.

Thank you for taking your time to read my note.

Though the message that you posted may well be a worthy cause, it doesn't belong here. This page is for editors of Wikipedia to ask questions about how to edit this encyclopedia. It isn't a noticeboard to promote worthy causes. I'm sure that you can find many websites & social media outlets where your message would be appropriate. Hello, I am having a terribly difficult time figuring out if the draft I wrote has actually been submitted for Review to be published. I have pressed the Submit for Review button multiple times but al always brought back to the same page that asks me to Save again. Please help me figure out 1) if my draft is submitted and 2) if it is not, how can I submit it!

Hi @Indigo Education Company: Your draft is currently not submitted for review. When you click the green "Submit for Review" button, you need to then scroll down and save the page (via the "Save page") button as you would any other edit. That being said, I noticed your username appears to represent a company - usernames on Wikipedia need to represent you as an individual, not a company or any other organization. I'll leave you a message on your talk page with more details on how to fix this. Thanks! ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 23:10, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Nor should it be submitted in its current state. While it has no references to reliable third-party sources, it will certainly be rejected. Maproom (talk) 23:59, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I see that (despite the advice above) a draft has been submitted for review, with "references" being one press release and two LinkedIn pages, but no reliable sources. WP:MODERNPLACENAME

According to WP:MODERNPLACENAME, when dealing with a geographical location in a historical context, we should use the name from the relevant time period. Is there a similar policy/guideline etc that deals with how non-geographical names are used in the same situation? Hack (talk) 08:01, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Have you seen Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Proper names? In general we use the name most commonly used by English speakers. Rojomoke (talk) 10:29, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That doesn't really address my question. It just links to the policy I linked. Hack (talk) 12:41, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
For people, see Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Biographies#Changed names. I don't know whether there is a general guideline for all types of names. Do you have something specific in mind? PrimeHunter (talk) 13:09, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It's for football season articles where a club or a league has changed names. Was hoping there was something documented. Hack (talk) 13:17, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I know nothing of how we do this in association football articles, but with major US sports we use the contemporary name, not the name used today. See 1920 World Series, where the losing team is referred to both by their official name of "Brooklyn Dodgers" and their nickname of "Brooklyn Robins" (reflecting contemporary use of both terms), but never by today's name of Los Angeles Dodgers. Alternately, see Super Bowl III. It refers to the losers as "Baltimore Colts", only using "Indianapolis" to refer to what was then the future, and the winners are mentioned as being part of the "American Football League", with today's name, "American Football Conference", again being used as a term for future events. I don't know a general guideline but for sports teams and leagues I would use the contemporary name with a piped link or redirect to the right article. You didn't specify a football code but I guess it's soccer. Then Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football is the place to ask. Oh, I see you have already discussed it at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football#Competition naming. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:58, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Create a redirect. For example: Girl Guides of America is an early name of the Girl Scouts of the USA and appropriate for use in that context. --  Gadget850 talk 14:44, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

How to change a Wikipedia page name

    Hello

Could someone instruct me on how to change a page name.

This is the page I would like to change http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Extreme_Sport_Challenges_Association

I would like to change the name into the World Youth Organization

Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dragonfly009 (talkcontribs) 10:19, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You can just use the move link at the page, however you should see Help:Rename and Help:How to move a page pages before you do that. --CiaPan (talk) 10:23, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Note that changing the name to that of a non-existent supposed 'charity' will not affect any decision made as a result of the current AfD discussion. [2] AndyTheGrump (talk) 02:14, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

    Getting hex triplets from images

Is there any way to get the hex triplet of part of an image without doing it yourself? Two years ago, File:Napoleoniceurope.png was modified by changing the color for Norway and two other states, but its use at Franco-Ottoman alliance (find it with a CTRL+F search for "Napoleon came in direct contact") still reflects the old color. Since {{legend}} relies on the hex coding, I'd like to change it from #0070FF to whatever shade of brown it is now, but I don't know how to get the computer to find the current color's hex triplet, and I don't trust myself to guess accurately. Nyttend (talk) 13:19, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Through his conquests (here, Napoleon's empire at its greatest extent in 1811) Napoleon came in direct contact with the Ottoman Empire.
      French Empire
      Conquered "Rebellious" States
      Conquered "Allied" States
The first result [3] of my first Google search get image color seems to work fine. I dowloaded the image and got the colors shown here. There are also tools which work in browsers without having to download first. Try extension get image color. People at Wikipedia:Reference desk/Computing may know good tools. I've just reverted a couple of entries over at List of hooligan firms as they were unsourced, and one of the contributors has come back with a source which happens to be Facebook.

I was going to just revert again, as FB is not (usually) a reliable source, but a quick glance shows that many of the firms are supported by facebook pages. Given the nature of the topic - football hooliganism - FB is probably one of the better ways of identifying such firms, and if I revert the recent addition, I'm morally bound to do so to the rest of the entries as well.

Any other opinions? Chaheel Riens (talk) 17:01, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Facebook does not pass WP:RS. Mlpearc (open channel) 17:05, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Not always true - as I pointed out above: "Self-published or questionable sources may be used as sources of information about themselves". Still, thanks for commenting. Chaheel Riens (talk) 18:30, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The problem here is that you have no idea whether a particular facebook page is self published. Many are published by enemies of the individual or group they claim to represent. Do hooligan firms even have an organization or established leader who can speak authoritatively in the name of the firm?

    Problem in creating an article

I want to create an article on Easton, which is a township in Washington County, New York, USA. Apparently a redirect to Aston prevents me from doing so. I don't know what to do. deisenbe (talk) 19:25, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sufficiently familiar with how NY uses townships, but are they not equivalent to towns there? Is this what you're looking for: Easton, New York? Rwessel (talk) 19:35, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
And what is the exact title of the redirect you mention? Easton is not a redirect, and no redirects to Aston have "Easton" in the name. PrimeHunter (talk) 19:46, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
But in general, whenever somebody wants to create an article but is worried about existing similarly named articles or redirects, my advice is to create the article in Draft space and not worry about the name. When you eventually submit the draft for review and it is accepted, the accepting reviewer will worry about moving it to the right place and sorting out disambiguations and redirects. Deleting Administrator

    Hello,

I created a page that was deleted because of the following:

    18:33, 27 January 2015 Jni (talk | contribs) deleted page Draft:Gregory V. Jones (G12: Unambiguous copyright infringement of http://www.sou.edu/envirostudies/faculty/jones.html)

What I am unsure of is why? I created the referenced page (http://www.sou.edu/envirostudies/faculty/jones.html) and used my on photo on both. How does one create a wiki page without falling into this problem. Now if I create another attempt at this page I will run afoul of other issues. It says to "first contact the deleting administrator" however I do not see how to do this anywhere. Please help, I am a rookie at this.

    Lisa Lisa Sherrill (talk) 01:19, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The deleting administrator is Jni. You can contact them on their userpage, User talk:Jni. At the bottom of http://www.sou.edu/envirostudies/faculty/jones.html it says "All Content © 2012 Southern Oregon University 1250 Siskiyou Boulevard Ashland, OR 97520 541-552-7672" That means it can not be copied directly from there to here as it does not have a compatible license. -- GB fan 01:36, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The opening <ref> tag is malformed or has a bad name (see the help page).

    Carmen Reppel

As the husband of the person in question, I have made a few corrections and additions. I seem to have made a mistake in the coding; the matters seem minor but I cannot be sure. Could someone please help with this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pmaxmont (talkcontribs) 02:15, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I put nowiki tags around the ref tag in your section heading, because it was stopping your question from being displayed properly. I have also changed the url in your question to a wikilink. --David Biddulph (talk) 02:39, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You had put a full stop inside the tag <ref name="Aulmann". />, so I changed it to .<ref name="Aulmann"/>. — Preceding unsigned comment added by David Biddulph (talkcontribs) 02:52, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
And after that you had another error. You had removed the usage of the named reference <ref name="Soest" />, so I have put that back in. - David Biddulph (talk) 02:57, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

    suggestion about content display

Hi, Suggestion is about content interlinking . There are various interlinking of pages of wikipedia .Whenever I am reading any article , various blue color text which has separate links are given. It is tedious task for reader to go to that page and read the whole transcript which is just needed to understand the original one .Instead of that , if wikipedia could do like 'if I bring the cursor on the link , it should show the first paragraph of link content in yellow color box below the link.' It would be of enormous help to users. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 123.236.164.133 (talk) 07:37, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia has such a feature, though it can only be used by users with registered accounts. To enable it (once you have registered an account), go to your user preferences, select the "Gadgets" tab, and check "Navigation popups". Maproom (talk) 08:33, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

how do I reply to a message in talk, I cannot see where I write etc, many thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2015newbie (talkcontribs) 11:45, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Click on the [edit] link alongside the section heading. Indent your reply by preceding it with a colon (or with one more colon than on the message to which you are replying). Sign the message at the end by either adding 4 tildes ~~~~ or using the signature icon in the edit toolbar. --David Biddulph (talk) 12:31, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Problem with Wikipedia articles' images & PDFs

I hope this is the right location for my query.

I’m not using Wikipedia’s book-creator (PDF) because the book’s title is not there, when I get the book (PDF). I’ve reported the problem, to Wikipedia, but I only got (I guess, I’m not sure what it is) something that quotes (??) my question and that perhaps is an answer, in....German....

I’m using MozillaFirefox add-on “Print Pages To PDF” but there’s a Wikipedia-only problem. This Firefox add-on works very well with all websites, except Wikipedia. It does not reproduce (to PDF) the images contained in Wikipedia’s articles. The text is fine, the images are not there. As I said, the problem is only with Wikipedia, the add-on works fine with all other websites.

The issue began a couple of weeks ago. Has Wikipedia changed something with its articles’ images, lately??

I’ve checked and re-checked my computer, I’ve disabled other Firefox add-ons, other apps, etc, but the problem remains.

I’m not an expert, so I don’t understand if the problem is with the add-on, or with Wikipedia, or both.

In advance, thanks for your help In advance, thanks for your help BeginnerW (talk) 16:18, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
