Kylie Minogue concert chronology

KylieX2008 is a concert tour by Australian pop singer and songwriter Kylie Minogue which is in support of her 2007 album X.

Rumours of Minogue taking the tour to Oceania, Asia, and America have popped all over the international media, with no date or venue having been confirmed and no other territories having been officially announced by Minogue or EMI so far.[1][2] According to the El Mercurio newspaper, Minogue will perform in Chile, with additional dates in Argentina and Peru to be announced soon. [3] Argentinian entertainment company, Fénix Entertainment Group, confirms that Minogue will play in Argentina, in mid-November 2008.[4] Adding further excitement, Minogue told the Sunday Herald that she will being her tour to Australia for a limited number of performances.[5] The tour was officially sponsored by Nokia.[6]

About the Tour

After months of speculation, it was announced through Minogue's official website that the "KylieX2008" would commence in Paris, traveling all over Europe.

By way of introduction, Minogue stated:[7]

I am putting together a show that is going to be a new and exciting experience for both the audience and myself. The eclectic mix of sounds on X is affording me an opportunity to explore and develop a new live show that will be fresh, exhilarating and innovative. After two celebratory tours, X will be a look to the future but will definitely include favourites alongside the new. I can't wait to share it with you next year.

While rehearsing for the tour, Minogue released several behind the scenes videos on her website. Concurrently, she released "X" in the United States and took time from her busy schedule to promote and film two "for the fans" music videos for the third single, All I See (including an acoustic rendition). The videos became a viral sensation.

As the tour began to sellout all over Europe and the UK, many fans speculated that Minogue would bring her tour to Australia and Japan. While promoting her ITV special, The Kylie Show on "Sunrise", she stated: "I just want to have in my head more solidly what the tour will be and if I can manage what I have so far, I would love to come back [to Australia]".[8]. It was later revealed that Minogoue would bring a limited numbers of shows to her home country, stating, "The reason I hadn't confirmed dates in Australia is I really didn't know what I was getting into[...]But now I know". [5]

Minogue visited a wide range of European countries, including United Kingdom, Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Russia, Romania, Bulgaria, Sweden, Switzerland, Greece, Turkey, Luxembourg, Latvia, and Spain. Many of the territories had never seen Kylie touring before.

About the Show

As with the "X" album, the tour rippled the "new wave" theme, made popular in the 80's. The show was divided into seven themes with the addition of an encore. The set consisted of three-tier stage. On the left and right, mini-stages were made available for the band and background singers. The main stage was very simple and minimalistic, with lighted video floor and gigantic video curtains as the backdrop Throughout the course of the tour, the show was changed many times to accommodate Minogue's health and slight experimentation from her production team.

Xlectro Static

A futuristic video for the song, Speakerphone, opened the show. Minogue emerged on a giant hoop in a purple Spiderwoman dress (changed to black later in the tour). Minogue performed her hits "Can't Get You Out of My Head" and "In Your Eyes" alongside a new song, entitled "Ruffle My Feathers".

Cheer Squad

In the second act, Minogue and her dancers appear as American cheerleaders. Themed as a high school pep rally, Minogue performed "Heart Beat Rock", "Wow" and "Shocked" in the style of a cheer.

Beach Party

Minogue began with "Loveboat" and included her version of the Barry Manilow hit "Copacabana". During the Paris show "That's Why They Write Love Songs", a tribute to the many romantic show tunes of the 40's and 50's, was also performed, having been dropped since then. Minogue closed the act with the celebratory "Spinning Around".

Xposed

Dressed as an erotic bellman, Minogue appears on a giant skull performing "Like a Drug". She later performed "Slow", "2 Hearts" and only in Paris "The One".

Naughty Manga Girl

On this act, Minogue appeared on stage in an outfit inspired by Japanese Manga characters, performing "Come Into My World", "Nu-di-ty" and "Sensitized". This segment opens with a video of the rare single "Sometime Samurai", which shows Minogue in a kimono dress.

Starry Nights

Minogue appears in blue satin gown and premieres another new song, "Flower" and a ballad version of "I Believe In You". The act ended with "Cosmic" for several dates, but the track was later dropped.

Black Versus White

Minogue appears as a 19th century coachman, performing "On A Night Like This", "Your Disco Needs You", "Kids", "Step Back In Time" and "In My Arms". The act begins with a black and white theme and progresses into color as the energy of the songs progresses.

Encore

Minogue re-emerged on stage in a Cher-esque evening suit performing "No More Rain". Many songs were added and swapped around during this act including, "The One", "Love at First Sight", "I Should Be So Lucky" and some dates the acoustic rendition of "All I See".

  • "Cosmic" was removed from the set order after the 9 May performance in Stuttgart
  • "Your Disco Needs You" was added to the set order at the 10 May performance in Frankfurt
  • "I Should Be So Lucky" was added to the set order at the performance in 17 May in Bucharest.
  • The set order in Zurich was altered to: Xlectro Static, Cheer Squad, Starry Nights, Beach Party, Xposed, Naughty Manga Girl (with the video being the last performance in this act), Black versus White and Encore
  • "The One" was performed impromptu/acoustically during the "Encore" section in Oslo and Stockholm. The album version was performed on the 27th June while the Freemasons Remix was performed on the 29th June. Being Minogue's fourth single from X, the song has become a regular in the set order.

Ticket Sales

Due to large public demand, several additional dates were slowly added since the tour announcement. Tickets for the original eight shows of the UK leg sold-out in just thirty minutes, and Minogue went on to sell tickets for more than twenty five shows in England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. The six shows at the Manchester Evening News Arena made Minogue the all-time most-featured artist at the venue.[10][11][12]

Critical Reception

The tour received rave reviews from many critics throughout the UK and Europe. Many called it Minogue's best tour to date. Many critics thought the show could not compare to her previous tours. [13] [14]

Channel 4's newest venture, 4Music, premiered "KylieX2008" on August 15 2008. The show was billed as the highlight of the station's premiere. Additionally, it is believed a DVD is currently in the planning stages, however no further information has been released by EMI Music Group.
