Indian hip hop is mainly performed in the Hindi language and Punjabi language. Although hip hop has not taken root in India many musicians of Indian origin are entering the hip hop industry abroad.

Bollywood Hip Hop

"Right Here Right Now" song from Bluffmaster has very good hiphop style beats.

Tamil Hip Hop

As mentioned above, tamil hip hop is still not that popular in tamilnadu yet. But it's getting popular with tamils living abroad.

Yogi B and Natchatra- Though he/his music group is malaysian, it belongs to the indian diaspora. Poetic_Ammo was the name for the original group. Their latest rap mix for the classic tamil film song "madai thiranthu" is a major hit.

A.R.Rahman He has tried to give a taste of hiphop beats to Tamil movie music now and then. Examples are: "Petta Rap" song from "Gentleman" "Style" song from "Sivaji" "Endrendrum punnaghai" from "Alaipayuthe" has a small rap segment.

Growing Hip Hip Culture

Indian hip hop is a blend of traditional musical elements with hip hop music and is achieved by using various Indian languages, incorporating percussion (tabla, dhol etc.), other instrumentation (sitar etc.). Mainstream hip hop talent including Dr. Dre, Rakim, Fergie, Kelly Rowland, Nelly Furtado, Timbaland and others have incorporated elements from Indian hip hop. Being a global phenomenon, is perceived differently by the major branches of the Indian diaspora. Indian Americans often adopted hip hop at an early age and made it an important aspect of their "American identity". Conversely, Indian Britons were first exposed to hip hop as an American export. Overseas Indian have helped increase the popularity of hip hop back home in Indian.
