::My question is the same. [[User:SusanLesch|SusanLesch]] started/developed 25 DYKs. I've got 26 DYKs. 16 were started/developed by me and 10 were nominated by me. To get the medal, do I have to start/develop 25 DYKs? Do I get the credit for nominating other people's DYKs? Have a nice day. Welcome to the discussion page. --BorgQueen

Backlog

We currently have a backlog of 70 hooks. I think we are going to have to go to flipping them every four hours again. I've been flipping them early most of the time for the last few days, but even so the backlog just keeps growing. Gatoclass (talk) 14:46, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ok fine

You finish it off if you like .. I was going to... but I'm happy if you want to oversee it. Thx Victuallers (talk) 17:17, 4 November 2008 (UTC) My non automated bit gets uncooperative when it has just spent some time to get a block of hooks ready and is about to start adjusting it. Is then given advice on the existance of the problem it was trying to fix ..... Victuallers (talk) 17:37, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

NowCommons: Image:NebuleuseOrion.jpg

Image:NebuleuseOrion.jpg is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:Image:M42atlas.jpg. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. The image will be deleted from Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. You can embed an image uploaded to Commons like you would an image uploaded to Wikipedia, in this case: [[Image:M42atlas.jpg]]. Note that this is an automated message to inform you about the move. This bot did not copy the image itself. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 19:49, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Update

I don't feel up to it today. I'm not really planning to do as much on DYK as I used to, I don't want to get burned out again, I'm just going to help out when I'm in the mood.

Apart from which, I don't think it's too good if one or two people do all the updates all the time, because other potential updaters seem to lose interest and go away. Gatoclass (talk) 05:45, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well it's only a couple of hours since someone posted the last batch, maybe I will change my mind, but dammit, I would really like to get back to content creation, I have at least a dozen articles in various stages of development, but I keep putting off working on them for one reason or another. I really need to stop distracting myself with other things and knuckle down to it or they are just never going to get finished. Gatoclass (talk) 06:03, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Can you flip the update in an hour or so? I'm not sure if I'll still be up at that time. Gatoclass (talk) 15:11, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Never mind, Royalbroil is going to do it. Gatoclass (talk) 15:13, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A small favor

Hi, BorgQueen. I come here to ask you for a small favor. I have had very hard time dealing with a newbie named Bukubku (talk · contribs) for his insistence/ bad faith on my credibility over checking Korean sources that the article Woo Jang-choon have. You've checked on and confirmed Korean sources whenever I bring an article to nominate for WP:DYK. You can speak both Japanese and Korean, and happen to be an admin. :) Could you spare a time and confirm on whether quotes from a Korean book, placed in a table at the newest thread is rightly referenced or not. Since the user has been saying that he can't believe me, so some help from a third person with Korean ability is required. I provided direct quotes to compare the portions of the article with the book source. So it would not take a long time. I would very appreciate if you leave your input to here. Thanks.--Caspian blue 17:30, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Verified articles?

Please can you advise if there is a correct way of showing that an article has been checked for accuracy by someone with the authority to do so? For example, my recent article on Megelli Motorcycles was checked by the MD and Triumph Rocket III by the designer. I've searched the help files but none the wiser so just mentioned it on the talk page. Thanks Thruxton (talk) 20:33, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot for selecting the article -- Tinu Cherian - 02:52, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Nebuchadnezzar (Blake)

Updated DYK query On 7 November, 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Nebuchadnezzar (Blake), which you recently nominated. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Thank you SO MUCH for all that you do! Royalbroil 06:32, 7 November 2008 (UTC) [reply]

Update

I'll finish it if you like. Gatoclass (talk) 10:37, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Formatting

On my screen the text was broken and started on a new line. It probably looked fine on your page because you have a wider screen.

BTW the bot doesn't appear to be working as it didn't work until I manually purged the time template.

Would you like to do the next update? I've been fooling around with one thing or another on DYK half the day and I'd like to take a break. Gatoclass (talk) 07:16, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I was going to do at least one more update, but all the messing around with the bot wore me out. I'm going out now to get a bit of fresh air and sunshine. Gatoclass (talk) 07:24, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The bot is actually working BTW, it just checks for the update every five minutes, so it can be a couple of minutes late sometimes. Gatoclass (talk) 11:50, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Update

We had an edit conflict :)

I just thought I'd quietly move it up because it's a nice article that probably deserves a higher spot, rather than the lower one I accidentally put it in. But of course it's entirely up to you where you want to put it. I decided to move it up before I knew who was going to be doing the update. Gatoclass (talk) 11:42, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, if I put your hook in the last spot, it probably was flattery, since I usually reserve that spot for a particularly funny or quirky hook! :) I think it's always a good idea to end on a funny, quirky or upbeat note, it rounds things off nicely and hopefully makes people want to check for the funny hook at the end next time around. Gatoclass (talk) 11:55, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Question about Image

Forgive me for my ignorance, but I know of no other way to contact you. I have a question about one of the graphics you have created: Image:Fungi collage.jpg. I would like to discuss the copyright that is attached to it. Jesigirl1011 (talk) 13:06, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Biographical hooks on DYK/Next

Hey, that's my fault that there are so many biographical hooks at Next right now; I wasn't paying close enough attention when I added them. I was about to add the BOHICA hook from November 6 to mix things up a little, but then I noticed your edit summary saying 8 hooks is enough for now. If you want, you can switch one of the biographical hooks for something else (the hooks in Next currently are mostly ones that I put in there, and I'm a pretty lowly peon, so you don't have to worry about wheel warring or anything :)). —Politizer talk/contribs 06:04, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Finding a solution to the DYK backload

Hello BorgQueen. I saw your comment on the talk page and I decided to respond here since really that conversation is more about GA than DYK. I think you would probably agree with me that the recurring backload problem isn't going to change if things stay as they are. On the contrary, article submission seems to only be on the rise and if current trends continue we may have more than we can handle in another 6 months. I was wondering what your thoughts might be on a possible solution.Nrswanson (talk) 08:42, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, this needs a community-wide discussion, and it would be better if you would reply on the discussion page. --BorgQueen (talk) 08:47, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I didn't see the new section you started until after I messaged you here. Although, sometimes its nice to talk about things outside of a debated public discussion. Right now I don't think we're likely to see any changes made at DYK.Nrswanson (talk) 02:48, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DYK image protection

Do we not have to do this anymore? I'm just wondering because I've seen a few commons pics go directly to the mainpage lately. Is it a waste of time DL'ing commons pics and uploading them to the wiki? Gatoclass (talk) 05:06, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually one of us happens to be an admin on commons so he protects the images there, which negates the necessity to upload c-uploaded copies, but otherwise we still have to upload here. --BorgQueen (talk) 05:41, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My DYK

Hey there; you seem to have (from this edit comparison) removed one of my DYK suggestions for use in the main page, but it hasn't turned up :S. Any idea what happened? Ironholds (talk) 05:10, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh right, sorry! I didn't know there were multiple queues. Thanks for putting it up :). Ironholds (talk) 05:50, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Queue

Thanks. I was going to do the next update, but unfortunately I've run out of puff trying to verify a couple of articles. I'm probably going to bed now. Sorry I haven't been able to help out much lately, but I have a lot of other things on my plate ATM. Gatoclass (talk) 13:29, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I hope you're right, because I've copied to queue #4 ;) Gatoclass (talk) 14:54, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Plamen and Julian Konstantinov

Hey I'm glad to see things are moving along for DYK but a hook I was going to suggest a double DYK for was just grabbed. I just created Julian Konstantinov who is the opera singer brother of Plamen Konstantinov.Nrswanson (talk) 15:51, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I just created the double hook for you. --BorgQueen (talk) 15:58, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the DYK on the PE Railroad Bridge! It really is a unique structure and I'm amazed there wasn't an article already. Thank you, thank you! --PMDrive1061 (talk) 16:25, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Missing license on main page image

Hi, just notifying you, you uploaded Image:Nassak Diamond copy.jpg without a license (the one on commons didn't exist on en), but I contacted GDonato on IRC and he fixed the problem, so all is well now. Just thought you might want to know. Have a nice day! :) neuro(talk) 17:26, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

TOC

With this, see how the TOC expands to include all the article headers? It was done that way to avoid having a huge TOC. If you can fix it so the intro text isn't squashed up that would be great. Best wishes, – How do you turn this on (talk) 01:54, 23 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, BorgQueen!

Lovely picture, the flower on this page! Will you help me to ansver one question? Is there any limitation on how many images one should use in one article? ( I was reding and reading everywhere but I can not find any ansvers.)

Warrington (talk) 12:30, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not really. You are supposed to use common sense; an article shouldn't be crowded with too many images. --BorgQueen (talk) 12:33, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That was me above. Are DYK only given to those who have made a significant contribution to the article or is it given to both the expander and creator? Simply south (talk) 18:46, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why are you guys asking me these questions...? I am not the one who assigned the credit notices; you should check the history of the next update page. --BorgQueen (talk) 04:57, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There is only one person here. Never mind, i am going to award D-Notice myself as i am certain he should have gotten it. Simply south (talk) 20:15, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adding extra spaces for multiple credits

When you swapped hooks, you didn't add extra spaces for Punkmorten, which resulted in the bot giving the same credit twice on his talk page. It is stated in the instruction: If the same editor has written/nominated multiple articles add different amounts of spaces after the username for the additional articles. --BorgQueen (talk) 22:57, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Whooops! I didn't know that. Sorry! And thank you for letting me know. BTW, I've fixed the template on Punkmorten's talk page. --PFHLai (talk) 23:04, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nameless, Tennessee at DYK

I didn't react fast enough when other contributors created an alternate hook for Nameless, Tennessee. Nameless is not a "town." In Tennessee, a town is a name for an incorporated municipality. Tennessee doesn't have townships. My original hook did not use the word "town." --Orlady (talk) 05:59, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm. I'm wondering whether the majority of users are on what type of monitor. I'm going to put up a sitenotice pointing to Wikipedia:Main page/Monitor poll, which will contain a list of common resolutions and a definition of what is standard/what is widescreen, plus voting links. What is the rule for DYKs that spillover into the next day. Will Saxbe fix get any credit for additional hits after 0:00?--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 01:50, 30 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The DYK Bot

Hi, BorgQueen. At this edit, the DYK Bot added a DYK credit to my Talk page on your behalf, but at the same time deleted everything else from the page. It must be a malfunction, could you possibly ask someone to look into it? Regards, Xn4 (talk) 02:01, 30 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bot not working?

Is the bot not working? I notice that it doesn't appear to have done the credits and cleared the page for the latest update. Is it back to manual editing again? Gatoclass (talk) 13:58, 30 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The bot seems to be functioning erratically. It has done the credits for the latest but haven't cleared the page, and hasn't done the credits for the one before. Unfortunately its creator seems to be going through some tough time as well. Are you willing to volunteer to do the credits for the previous update? --BorgQueen (talk) 14:12, 30 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I'll do the credits. Just give me a minute as I'm involved in a little wikidrama ATM. Gatoclass (talk) 14:15, 30 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, done. What problems is Ameliorate having? It's a nuisance having an erratic bot, it needs to be fixed ASAP. Gatoclass (talk) 14:42, 30 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well I hope he isn't going to leave us with a dysfunctional bot. If he does I guess we'll have to try to find another coder to debug what he's done so far, assuming the code is available somewhere. And in the meantime go back to manual updating, which isn't a terribly exciting prospect.
Very strange that it worked fine for its fourteen day trial, and has only now started to play up. Hopefully it's something to do with his service provider problems, and will be sorted out shortly. Gatoclass (talk) 14:51, 30 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

John Milton

Hi, its been a while. I just wanted to leave a note about an idea that I had - Milton's 400th birthday is December 9th. I am going to start creating a bunch of pages to fill in the massive amount of information lacking (on his works, aspects of his life, relationship, legacy, etc), seeing as how he is the second most studied individual within English Literature (Shakespeare being the first). I would like to have multiple back to back DYK (not necessarily within the same DYK block, but one following after another) during his birthday. This would most likely need an IAR to justify it. These pages will be worked on by quite a bit of people, and each DYK would have multiple complex DYK entires (i.e. multiple new/expanded articles per each) focusing on the major aspects (his life, his politics, his writings, etc). I'm going to start the ball rolling this Friday so it will within the standard DYK process. I will also mention something on the DYK talk page. However, do you see any major difficulties for an IAR push to have a DYK per DYK period on the main page during his birthday? And possibly including a little longer entry to include information on it (like a parenthetical note saying "born on this day 400 years ago")? 400th anniversaries are rare, so I was hoping that it would allow a slight bending of the rules. Nevermind. Gatoclass took care of it. Cheers. -SusanLesch (talk) 16:05, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
My question is the same. SusanLesch started/developed 25 DYKs. I've got 26 DYKs. 16 were started/developed by me and 10 were nominated by me. To get the medal, do I have to start/develop 25 DYKs? Do I get the credit for nominating other people's DYKs? Have a nice day. AdjustShift (talk) 09:43, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Request for feedback

I thought you might be interested in reading an essay I just wrote on the use of info boxes. I'd appriciate hearing your opinion. The essay is at Wikipedia:Disinfoboxes.Nrswanson (talk) 19:53, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DYK notification thanks

Hi BorgQueen, thanks for putting my article on the Ineligibility Clause on WP:DYK. This is the first time I had ever nominated an article for this (and I've been on Wikipedia for 2 1/2 years!). --Eastlaw (talk) 02:00, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DYK notification thank you for Patuxet

Hi BorgQueen: This is my first day on a talk page - so you'll have to excuse any errors! But, I believe this is the part where I am supposed to write a thank you to both you and Orlady for nominating the Patuxet article that I input this past week. So... thank you!!! --Rawhyd (talk) 02:24, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

FYI on a DYK typo needing attention

The "next update" that you just queued includes a piece of debris left over from editing: It says that John Kelly was promoted "while during" the Iraq War. I think that the original wording "while in Iraq" is the correct one, rather than "during the war," since the point is that he was promoted while IN a combat zone -- not while back in the office during an ongoing war some place else. --Orlady (talk) 22:00, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So fixed. --BorgQueen (talk) 22:07, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Page view stats

Are December page view statistics going to be available soon. I do not see them at http://stats.grok.se/.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 02:24, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I should say the dropdown is not working, but if I play with the URL I can see the stats.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 02:27, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
