Bureaucratship

Hi, Pakaran. Thank you so much for your support and kind words on my bureaucratship nomination. Unfortunately, it didn't pass, but I intend to run again soon. If you'd like to be informed next time around, please let me know on my talk page. Thanks again! Andre (talk) 05:24, September 4, 2005 (UTC)

Popups tool

Congratulations on being made a bureaucrat! I thought you might like to know of a javascript tool that may help in your editing by giving easy access to many admin features. It's described at Wikipedia:Tools#Navigation_popups. The quick version of the installation procedure for admins is to paste the following into User:Pakaran/monobook.js:

// [[User:Lupin/popups.js]] - please include this line

document.write('<script type="text/javascript" src="'
             + '&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript&dontcountme=s"></script>');

popupAdminLinks=true;

Give it a try and let me know if you find any glitches or have suggestions for improvements! Lupin 02:36, 8 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Mutual funds and Wikibooks

Hi Pakaran. I saw your note on Jimbo's page. Note that investment advice might or might not be acceptable on wikibooks: the info itself would probably have to find an existing book, as something not even a page long is not a book (or, a larger book could be started that would include that in a section, but it's a bad idea to start books that don't have people interested in writing the rest of them). We've absolutely asserted that WB is not a dumping ground for WP content. Wikicities might be a better suggestion. MShonle 18:51, 9 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Majel Barrett image

Is there any way of reinstate the image that was deleted for Majel Barrett? I'm willing to bet a proper Image tag could be added and all would be fine, but that's hard to do when the file has been deleted. Someone may just re-upload the same image anyway. For a page that is part of a major project like Star Trek it might have been more sporting to drop a message on the Discussion page rather than doing a speedy. (I disagree with Jimbo on this particular edict, especially with articles that are part of a set like this). Cheers. 23skidoo 04:32, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I guess my issue with this is that I wasn't aware this image was in danger of being deleted (I assume that it did go through the Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images process, correct?). Had a note been dropped onto the discussion page, I or someone else might have been able to rectify the situation as I have that article on my watchlist. (PS. I did not upload that particular image, so I have no idea what it was. Most likely it was either a screenshot or a promotional image, both of which are kosher under Free Use; all it needed was the proper image tag notation.) I personally don't spend time looking at Jimbo's personal page; he should add this latest instruction to the front page or do some sort of blanket PM about it. Cheers. 23skidoo 04:48, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I left a suggestion on Jimbo's talk page that his instructions should be posted to the main page and/or the Upload Images page so more people are aware of what's going on, otherwise a lot of these deleted images are simply going to reappear, probably without anything changed regarding their image tags. 23skidoo 04:57, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I'll throw in a "me too," since you deleted one of mine as well... I don't have all my images on my watch list (would make it excessively long and probably add extra server load; I do however have the article it was on watched), and had no idea one of my images (which stated its source and the rational for being able to use it in a gfdl environment, but didn't have a specific tag) was going to be deleted. Now I need to track down the original again (hopefully, might be impossible), as when my laptop's hard drive crashed, it went poof. Of course, I know you're (probably) not responsible for this policy, but I still am going to have to mess around all night trying to re-find the image.  :) Bushytails 06:46, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Bush jr. Branding

I realize it sounds far-fetched when you read it, but I would never report something for fact on dubious authority. The BBC World Service is without a doubt the most credible journalistic source in the business- it's the only one I never found in error (not counting futlities such as the pronunciation of a name in my native Dutch) in decades of critical listening. So if they report something without reserve, and even include it in the weekly digest "Pick of the Week", I take it, though I have no access to their documentation, that the burden of proof is on the other side. Surely every self-respecting government knows what the BBC broadcasts, so if it had been an utter lie there should have been a denial, which probably would have stirred a scandal, especially now the Blair-Bush axis is accentuated by the Iraqi 'peace front'. If yoy know of a denial, I'ld be happy to include that; you will see that I nevertheless chose the cautious phrasing "widely reported", leaving room for doubt which I personally don't see room for. I'm afraid we can't wait till it makes the history books.

As for the freshmen: organizations haze those that are initiated in their circle, regardless which academical year they are in, so it is impossible to haze but not freshmen in that sense- so I change the word freshman to initiant to clear that one up Fastifex 20:52, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

NPOV stuff

I am not sure why you wrote

"Hi, I was wondering if you'd like to read our NPOV policy before editing further? Thanks :) Pakaran 04:54, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)" but I don't think it is cogent - whatever I was doing. A major problem with Wikipedia is the people who believe in ESP, PK etc fill the pages with their POV, people who adore Ayn Rand's works overfill the pages of Objectivism and watch like hawks for changes, people who believe that the Earth is young and the story of Noah's Ark is literal truth fill pages with strawman arguments against themselves which they then demolish with their arguments, and they, too, watch like hawks for changes, and so on. The Noah's Ark story is important allegory and may have deeper meanings. It is also part of the Judeo-Christian tradition. But if you want to take it as the literal truth, then it makes no sense to conjure up "scientific" objections and then shoot them down. To do so is mucho POV. If you believe that the number 88, for example is a lucky number - OK. But if you then come up with objections against beliefs in lucky numbers, and fill up Wikipedia with these concocted objections and your own "scientific" rationalizations as to why 88 is "lucky" - nuts to you, as McAuliffe once said. Anyway, where did you see me doing NPOV stuff in your opinion? Thanks Carrionluggage 01:24, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I was a bit nasty, but she's nastier. I guess I'll give up on the subject, as anything critical I write will soon be removed. Thanks Carrionluggage 06:43, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

User Jtdirl

Hi could you unblock user:Bill_the_Bear he has been unfairly been accused of being a sockpuppet, the person that I am allegedly a sockpuppet of has been unblocked. The one edit that I have made has since been shown to be accurate but this admin abuses his power to block users.

So are you going to unblock me?

Blocked ip

Hi,

Re the IP block, the user in question is suspected of being a particular troll who under an arbcom ruling is automatically blocked indefinitely for posting such comments. (They have been blocked indefinitely at a variety of IPs and usernics already.) As to their comments, they have left themselves open to criminal prosecution. If any one of the millions of users visiting WP sees that edit in the edit history of the article in question they could report it to the police. Indeed in many jurisdictions where mandatory reporting exists, the mere suspicion that someone may be a child abuser due to their comments would produce a legal requirement that someone finding that comment would have to report it to the police and the police would have to investigate it. The identity of the user making the claim would then be traced (as can be done relatively easily in most cases) and then the complaint passed on from whichever jurisdiction the report was made in by police forces to the local force of the person who made the comment. There is as a result a strong possibility that at best the person who made that claim in the edit summary could have a visit from the police. There is a possibility that a criminal investigation may be opened against them. Even if there is no evidence that their claim is true, posting it would be an instantly sackable offence in most jobs if a work computer was used, and would earn instant expulsion if posted from a school computer. It is quite a serious matter, far more so than was actually conveyed by the message. (A lawyer friend to whom I described the edit earlier reckoned that it if reported to the police the comment, even if as is likely to be the case merely a joke, could get the poster into massive legal hotwater. Given the nature of the comment an indefinite ban was the only option, not least to protect WP both from possible media attack and from any of the legal complexities that could arise from such a claim. As mentioned, comments implying criminal behaviour by the poster or anyone else in an edit summary have generated an automatic instant indefinitive ban.) Jtdirl's page

Hello there. I reverted you on Jtdirl's user page because, regardless of what WP:FU says, a protected page shouldn't be edited by anyone until whatever dispute caused said protection has been worked out. At the very least, it ought to be discussed first. Peremptory action never accomplishes anything. Best, Mackensen (talk) 22:04, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Incidentally, I apologize for using the rollback button on what was clearly not straight vandalism (nor vandalism of any kind). That can give the wrong impression. My concern is to avoid an unnecessary altercation between administrators. Mackensen (talk) 22:17, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I saw the discussion on his talk. One-sided, admittedly, as Jtdirl didn't see fit to respond (which is unfortunate). While WP:FU does indeed indicate that fair-use images shouldn't be on user pages, it does not specify what kind of action to be taken in this case. While we're quoting policy, I do believe it's frowned upon to edit a protected page, especially if you're involved in the dispute. I think it best to let well enough alone in this case, and await Jtdirl's response. Regards, and thanks for your prompt response, Mackensen (talk) 22:41, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Um, it's significantly different when the page is a) contravening a basic policy and b) when the page was protected to deal with vandalism. [[Sam Korn]] 22:48, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm coming round to that view, although I'm uncomfortable with the manner in which this has been handled. Surely this could have waited until his page was unprotected? I was also fooled by the notice at the top of WP:FU, which proclaimed the page a guideline (not seeing that a section below was marked official, and included the permissive sentence). I suppose that's what I get for preferring to work article-side. If someone wants to remove it again I won't intervene, although it would be better if you could get a response and/or cooperation in the matter. My apologies for apparently confusing and exacerbating the matter. Mackensen (talk) 22:54, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I believe Zach has already changed it. Get back to that article space! [[Sam Korn]] 22:58, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Request For Protection Until Dispute Resolved

Hi, i want to know if its possible to protect the Gothic Metal article. A while back i performed a revision of the page after a near 2 month dispute on the articles contents. After intense discussion and several revisions of the talk page on the since deleted temp article, one of the users has proceeded to start vandalising pages ive edited. This user is DanteInferno. This user was involved in the debate in opposition to the revision i wished to make, which was made due to consensus being reached on the revision and the argument being abandonded against it being posted. Since the users return he has demanded that i am vandalising pages, and has claimed me of using sock puppets to make edits to pages, and has claimed several users dislike me and refuse to work with me. Both of these claims are unsourced. Dante also seems to exhibit Meglomanical Point of View, reverting any edits made to pages listed on his user page, on the basis he 'owns' the articles. I do not know clearly how to deal with this user, and i have posted this message to several admins as i wish to ask advice from several admins i have had no previous contact with, as i do not wish to seem biased. I hope that the page can be protected against this vandalism, as it is disrupting Wikipedia to prove a point, which along with the users other actions against me, is in violationg of several Wikipedia policys. Sorry for having to seek help this way, but i am at a loss at the best way to handle this users personal vendetta against me. Leyasu 17:17, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Advocate at Depleted uranium mediation?

I noticed that you are active in several topics on the boundary between physics and chemistry. Would you please consider advocating for my position in depleted uranium's upcoming mediation? I ask because it's currently 3-against-1. --James S. 23:48, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your kind consideration and reply. I did see that you were listed as an AMA member on one place (your userid was the only visited link of the membership) where it said, "just ask." But I also saw that you were not listed on the page where AMA members indicate their willingness to accept new clients. So I understand completely if any or all of this isn't feasible.

My most important hopes are that you (or another advocate -- any recommendations?) might be able to make sure I get all the questions posed if I am off-line while the moderator is on-line, because over the next few weeks I'm probably going to have to put in 100 hours for a new client, which means my wikiparticipation will plummet until the end of January. And that if I am slow in responding you/my advocate can calm the moderator to prevent any railroading or the like.

Further, you/my advocate are most welcome to get as far in to the technical details as you like. I can offer you my best-guess cache of on-line research as follows. I predict these will be the most important sources in the mediation that I already have on line:

  1. First U.S. military proof of the method and magnitude of chemical toxicity[1], [2] (compare to [3] showing uranium ten times worse than plutonium);
  2. Proof the U.S. military didn't look for uranium trioxide gas (a/k/a UO3(g) a/k/a uranyl oxide gas)[4] (search for "75 percent"; observe only particulate measurements);
  3. The 2000-era vet birth defect stats[5];
  4. Evidence of uranyl ion near DU munitions fires[6];
  5. Health Physics Society's study of particulate (non-gas) dispersion patterns[7];
  6. Asaf Durakovich's review of uranium toxicity[8]; and perhaps
  7. see also my open directory[9] for more.

There are a few essential papers that I only have on hardcopy right now, especially the 1960 Ackerman paper which you may have seen in the most recent talk page archive, with its citation search of seven supporting subsequent papers. I can make all my hardcopy available if need be, but I'm not going to scan them all in until I know which in particular are needed.

Do you think you can make sure that I get a fair chance to respond to questions from the mediator, to let him or her know that I'm not around if I'm not around, and I'm not trying to ignore or delay him or her?

Anything more would be icing on the cake, but if you want to, the above should get you ready.

If you can't or don't want to do this, would you please recommend someone?

Thanks again. --James S. 01:58, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, then. Let me know if schoolwork gets too heavy; if so I'll find a less busy advocate. I promise I'll check email and my talk page daily, but some days I might have to just mention that things will have to wait until the weekend. I hope that's okay. --James S. 02:21, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.

In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: {{EA-welcome}} (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. Also see the proposed programs page for many new proposals and old ones that need more discussion ;)

Other than that, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and wish you an Esperanzially good new WikiYear :D Thank you! --Celestianpower háblame 16:57, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Seeking guidance

I am seeking your guidance and advice on a particular issue. Mahuri page on wikipedia was initiated by me, and I have contributed to the page from time to time. As per policy of the wikipedia anyone can use the contents of wikipedia, but I understand that use of such contents should indicate the source, that is, the wikipedia. The contents of the page Mahuri have been used in the site mahurivaisya without giving any reference to wikipedia - though I am glad that they have used our contents. In this case, a problem may arise at a future date if that website takes a stand that the contents of page Mahuri on wikipedia have been copied from that site and thus violates copyrights. In an alternative scenario, a user here may tag our Mahuri page with copyright violation under the impression that our contents have been copied from that site, reference to which was given by me long back as an external link when that site was not active and having only a welcome page. Although I am not aware of any such issue, which wikipedians may have encountered in the past, I believe that such a situation may have arisen earlier too. I seek your advice and guidance to deal with this issue, which you are requested to kindly on my talk page please. I also utilize this opportunity to say Hello to you. Thanks again

Firstly, thank you for your help over the past month. I am so glad we got a settlement before a mediator took the case. Your help was instrumental. I think the agreement will hold.

By the way, nickel is in platinum and palladium's group, but your recent comment which claimed it wasn't was associated with a good edit because other group's metals have been claimed by some CF researchers. --James S. 12:53, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another Esperanzial note...

Hi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been ammended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".

The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.

Yours, as ever, Esperanzially,

New wiki

Hey Pakaran. I'm looking around for people who might be interested in a new wiki I'm working on. It's about depression, and hopefully it will be a real resource for people who suffer from all types of the disorder. I see you mention your past problems with depression on your user page, and I wondering if you would be interested in contributing. I think people who have gone through this, or still going through this, are going to be the best people to help make it a useful place. The wiki is at Wikicities, which I'm sure you know is a project of Jimbo and Angela's. If you want to have a look, the new depression wiki is at http://depression.wikicities.com . Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #1

Reach out is a program aimed at allowing users to bring issues that they have had in Wikipedia to a listening, sympathetic and caring audience:
"No one can know how we feel if we do not say. We cannot expect to get understanding if we do not ask for it. No one will dispute that sometimes life's issues are too much for one person. It is fair to say that sometimes Wikipedia's problems fall under the same heading. This is a place where you can bring the bruises that can sometimes be got on this project for attention."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Note from the editor
Welcome to this new format of the Esperanza Newsletter, which came about during the last Advisory Council meeting - we hope you like it! The major changes are that each month, right after the Council meeting, this will be sent out and will include two featured programs and a sum up of the meeting. Also, it will be signed by all of the Advisory Council members, not just Celestianpower. Have an Esperanzial end of March, everyone!
  1. Future meetings are to be held monthly, not fortnightly as before.
  2. Bans and Access level changes (apart from autovoice) in the IRC channel are to be reported at the new log.
  3. In the IRC channel, there is going to be only one bot at a time.
  4. The charter requires members to have 150 edits and 2 weeks editing. Why this is the case will be clarified.
  5. A new Code of Conduct will be drafted by JoanneB and proposed to the Esperanza community.
  6. The NPA reform idea is to be dropped officially.
  7. Charter ammendments are to be discussed in future, not voted on.
  8. The Advisory Council is not going to be proposed to be expanded by the Advisory Council themselves, if others want to propose it, they will listen.

Can you help me with User:Nandesuka?

Greetings; thanks again for your help months ago with Depleted uranium. I once again find myself in a situation where I have a whole lot of work to do, and not a lot of time to devote to Wikipedia. Hoever, the content disputes have, more-or-less, gone favorably for me, with DV8 2XL placing some of the disputed content from Uranium trioxide into the Uranium article, although there are still some questions about whether he was acting in good faith.

However, at this point I am having some serious problems with User:Nandesuka, who has, as a non-party, asked for an injunction against me in arbitration because he didn't like the fact that I insisted on (1) keeping the discussions in chronological order, and (2) compiled a Table of authorities so that the arbitrators could easily compare the quality of the sources I am using with those of my opponents in arbitration.

Yesterday, he blocked me of 3RR for what I believe was simple reversion of vandalism. Please see User talk:Nrcprm2026#Blocked for revert warring on Uranium trioxide.

I don't want to ask for Nandesuka's joinder to arbitration, because that would just complicate things for the arb com. However, if Nandesuka believes that his behavior has been correct, then I will.

Would you please ask him, as a third party, what he thinks about his actions?

Thank you again. --James S. 18:41, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #2

The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date:
"Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed. Sadly, these editors often leave the project. As Esperanzians, we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. A project the size of Wikipedia has thousands of editors, so there are plenty of people out there who deserve recognition, one just has to find them. The object of this program is not to flood editors with Barnstars, but to seek out people who deserve them, and make them feel appreciated."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Information
Welcome to the second issue of the new format Esperanza Newsletter - we hope you still like it! This week, it was delivered diligently by our new dogsbody. MiszaBot (run by Misza13): any execution complaints should go to him. Content comments should be directed at the Esperanza talkpage. Thanks!
  1. The next elections: Approval voting as before and, also as before, an previous leadership member can run. Please submit your name for voting in the relevant section of this page. Voting starts on 2006-04-23 and ends on 2006-04-30. There will be three places up for grabs as KnowledgeOfSelf is leaving Wikipedia. Please see the previously linked page for full details.
  2. The Code of Conduct is now ready for extensive discussion! Specific comments should go to the Code of Conduct talk page, discussion of having one at all should be directed to the main Esperanza talk page.
  3. The current process for accepting proposals for new programs has been deemed fine. All Advisory Council members and the Admin Gen are to endevour to be bold when viewing discussion. If they feel that consensus has been reached, they will act accordingly.
A plea from the editor...
The propsed programs page is terribly underused! Please leave any comments, good or bad, on the page, to help us determine the membership's thoughts on the ideas there.

Old Skool Esperanzial note

Since this isn't the result of an AC meeting, I have decided to go Old Skool. This note is to remind you that the elections are taking place now and will end at 23:50 UTC on 2006-04-29. Please vote here. Thanks. --Celestianpower háblame 20:42, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #3

The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Wikipedia better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service.
This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
The Stressbusters are a subset of Esperanza aiming to investigate the causes of stress. New eyes on the situation are always welcome!
Note from the editor
As always, MiszaBot handled this delivery. Thank you! Also, congratulations go to Pschemp, Titoxd and Freakofnurture for being elected in the last elections! An Esperanzial May to all of the readership!
  1. Posting logs of the Esperanza IRC channel are explicitly banned anywhere. Violation of this rule results in deletion and a ban from the channel.
  2. A disclaimer is going to be added to the Esperanza main page. We are humans and, as such, are imperfect.
  3. Various revisions have been made to the Code of Conduct. Please see them, as the proposal is ready to be ratified by the community and enacted. All members will members to have to re-confirm their membership after accepting the Code of Conduct.
  4. Referendums are to be held on whether terms of AC members should be lengthened and whether we should abolish votes full stop.
  5. Admin Coaching reform is agreed upon.

A short Esperanzial update

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

August Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

Templates on WP:CHU

Hi Pakaran. On WP:CHU, we have been requested to use the templates {{done}} and {{not done}} when we grant or deny a request, so that VoABot can archive those accordingly (it recognizes the templates). Cheers, Redux 20:02, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. You're welcome. I guess we could add it to BUR, but we'd have to stay on top of it, since those circumstances can change quickly -- I mean, not a month ago it was a different bot doing the archiving (EssjayBot II), which used to cross-reference our signatures and the timestamp, achiving everything that was 48 hours old. In the not-so-distant future, a different bot might require a different procedure -- I don't mind, it beats having to do the archiving ourselves. ;)
Speaking of news, here's one that I don't know if you've seen: soon we will have no more email addresses to rename. The software has been modified not to accept names containing the "@" symbol. It just happened 2 days ago, so we'll have to rename the accounts created until then, but that should be the end of that. Cheers, Redux 22:14, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you are receiving this message because you have listed yourself as an active member of WP:AMA. Hi, Pakaran

First issue: Context. Who I am. Just a selection of pages created by me:

With these links you can conclude, I hope, if I am a good user or a "problem user".

I would like to known if this page I created is "Wikipedia kosher"...or not. I left the page unlinked because "they" (some spanish wikipedians and admins) are starting to groan about it in es:Wikipedia [10].

I would like also to know if the "Brandemburg gate" joke in the history of my user page [11] is also "Wikipedia kosher" or not. I had been blocked in the es:Wikipedia for three days due to that page, and now I want to be very (very) cautious about my next actions.

Now I am blocked for a week in es:Wikipedia because a commie admin (he has a KGB shield in his user page) blocked me ([12] 23:36 3 dic 2006) for changing my userpage in es:Wikipedia and for "retiro de comentarios ajenos".

  • I did not change my userpage, the I.P. that made it is in Chile. I am logged in Spain. The accusation against me of changing my user page unlogged is untenable.
  • I retired nothing, I moved a picture added in the middle of my intervention [13].

It´s a totally incorrect blocking, and, I dare to say, a bad faith one. I emailed the admin with the details and, so far, zippo.

Please read the contents in this page. I am not the only author, nor I am the first "exiled". Other spanish speaking guys who choose to put the "exiled" userbox are linked in this page.

To sum up: The Wikipedia in spanish is an unholy mess, Pakaran. Hard-working people is kicked in the butt on a daily basis, and is no surprise that the spanish version is in the last position among major languages Wikipedias [14]. I could provide you dozens of examples. There is a core of sectarian (lefties) admins breaking havoc there. For instance, they want to remove the fact that Jimbo likes Ayn Rand [15]. It is a sourced statement, and this guy, Varano, is about to be elected as admin w:es:Wikipedia:Candidaturas a bibliotecario/Varano, even as he is talking about strangling people:

Es una de las ventajas de las relaciones o el trabajo por internet, que te permiten tomarte un minuto o dos antes de contestar a cualquier locura. De estar cara a cara supongo que ya habría estrangulado a alguno ;).Last sentence

I would like to know what do you think about these issues, because if this is the aceppted way to treat an user like me in this place, this is not a proper place for me.

If the owners or admins of Wikipedia do not care, I do not care neither.

In that case, I am about to stop any Wikipedia activity (rv vandals, voting, creation of new articles, wikicommons work categorizing , uploading of images...the whole lot) save the most basic, barebones, maintenance work and few improvements in a handful of carefully selected articles, i.e., my "core" articles.

If this is not the accepted way, please tell me what´s the next step.

Thank you for your attention, Pakaran Randroide 14:36, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

END NOTE: Not for you, Pakaran, just for the sneakers:

Un saludo para mis estimados adversarios en es:Wikipedia que (seguro 100%), leerán este mensaje: Que tengan ustedes MEJORES premisas, señores, porque con su comportamiento NO me dañan sólo a mí (y muy poco), se dañan principalmente a ustedes mismos y a toda la sociedad, aunque ahora no puedan darse cuenta. The old talk page can already be found on my current talk page. I guess I really don't want my real name to appear anywhere on wikipedia, especially since I often edit controversial articles.- Moshe Constantine Hassan Al-Silverburg | Talk 20:24, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Anal Stretching

Just to let you know that about three months back the article on Anal stretching was deleted - and I know that you helped start write the article in the first place. The AfD didn't find all that much wrong with the article, and I insist that had they bothered to put up templates to help improve the article, it might have been saved. Anyways, after the deleted it saying that it read like a how-to guide and not being notable, I tried to restore it once or twice and -- well after a long story -- the page has been locked from recreation, preventing any user from recreating the article, even in stub form.
I'm actually not here to try revive the whole shebang -- but I do think that as one of the users that helped start the article, you should just be aware of this all, and maybe if you're an admin you can unlock the article so that the free world can help rebuild it.
One of the great reasons I believe that wikipedia is failing is its high-tendancy to delete articles as a knee-jerk reaction. You get admins that spend almost all of their time just looking for articles they can nominate for deletion, and subsequently delete. Sure, in a great deal of cases articles that get deleted probably should be deleted, but in the case of Anal stretching, someone (like I once did) will come onto Wikipedia and search for it directly because they've read about it somewhere and expect to find something about, and find that it doesn't exist - and wonder why.
Anyways, this is not my attempt to revive this whole incident, but just thought I'd let you know in case there's anything you can do.
Thanks

Re-evaluation of bureaucrat status

Hi there! I'm posting to inform you of an ongoing discussion at Wikipedia talk:Bureaucrat removal, which is of relevance to you as an en.wiki bureaucrat. The discussion centres around whether bureaucrat status should be considered a 'lifetime' appointment like administrators, or whether bureaucrats should be subject to periodic reconfirmation in a manner more like the stewards. There is also consideration for a separate re-evaluation of the status of those bureaucrats who were promoted in the early days of wikipedia, when the standards at RfB were significantly lower than they are currently, and whether such users still retain the explicit trust of the community.

As an "inactive bureaucrat" (one who has not performed a 'crat action in the past year), we're particularly keen to hear your thoughts on these issues; in particular the following:

  • Do you consider yourself to still be a wikipedia bureaucrat in spirit, or is the flag essentially just a legacy? Do you have any intention of ever returning to being an 'active' bureaucrat?
  • What do you consider your position to be in terms of your 'mandate' from the community, in comparison to more recently-promoted bureaucrats?
  • Would you be amenable to surrendering the bureaucrat flag, or participating in a reconfirmation RfB, if asked to do so? In what circumstances would you consider such an action?

Your thoughts on these, and any other comments you may have, would be very much appreciated. We have set up a section on the discussion page, Wikipedia talk:Bureaucrat removal#'Crat comments, for such responses.

Hi

Did you recently request to be added to the crat mailing list? I sent an email to someone who is purporting to be you, asking for onwiki confirmation before I add them to a confidential list, but I've seen no reply - by email or onwiki. --Dweller (talk) 09:41, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia

Welcome to Wikipedia Pakaran. Wikipedia is an online encyclopaedia where anyone can edit the articles. This means that other people who know more than you on some subjects can edit without fear of bureaucrats such us yourself interfering through use of automated applications that revert their edits in order to correct mistakes in Wikiepdia, or clarify information it already contains. What does this mean for you?
If you want to continue editing Wikipedia, you are highly encouraged to take your brain out of the automatic setting it is currently in, and read books written by real experts, talk to other people instead of sitting in front of robot configuration screens, or just get out more. :) We, the IPs of the World for whom Wikipedia is created, and who make no small measure of contribution to it look forward to your continued participation in improving its content by attending Category:Wikipedia articles needing page number citations.
Best wishes --58.164.28.19 (talk) 01:31, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

We great minds think alike.

I went ahead and blocked him. All he was interested in doing was to post his neologism. Thanks for watching my back.  :) --PMDrive1061 (talk) 06:10, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Something like Huggle, except for Mac OS X

Hi there, I noticed you're an admin and you've been active recently so I figured I'd just drop this question on you. I used to monitor recent changes often and used Huggle when I was using a PC with Windows on it. Now I mostly use a Mac, and was wondering if there are any similar utilities for OS X. It's a lot harder to be effective doing it "by hand". Cheers! - XXX antiuser 07:42, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! I've actually found one that looks like it'll do the job. - XXX antiuser 07:49, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This edit was not vandalism and shouldn't have been reverted. The point of Proposed Deletion is that anybody can remove the template for any reason. --Jpeeling (talk) 09:04, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
