Hi Airplaneman, I hope you are well and not too busy. Could you check if everyhthing is ok please with the Being Born Again Couture article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Domenico.y/Being_Born_Again_Couture_Fashion_Show? Can you tell me if there is further adjustments to make? This would be much appreciated. Also, I've edited a few wikipedia articles since then and I am getting the hang of it. Thank you again. Hi Airplaneman, I have taken out all the advertising of the Being Born Again Couture article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Domenico.y/Being_Born_Again_Couture_Fashion_Show. It still says from before I edited it "This article is written like an advertisement". I will take it out of the page now, because it is not written like an advertisement any more. If you have any questions, please reply to this message. Thank you so much. Deleted Article: Florian Hutter

Hello Airplaneman, This was my first article, and I spent a lot of time learning how to enter the information and resources, and I felt proud that I was able to create the article. I am sorry that my article on Florian Hutter was deleted. I am having trouble understanding all of the guidelines and I think I need some help. Was my article totally wrong, or was there anything I could have done to edit the article and prevent deletion? Any guidance that you could provide to me would me of great help. ~ ~ ~ ~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by MarkBruno (talkcontribs) 22:44, 26 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The deletion of my article was on 12:25, 24 January 2011.

Hello again Airplaneman,
I hope that I am writing correctly here.
As an administrator, can you userfy the page "Florian Hutter" for me and email a copy to me?
Thanks again!
Mark Bruno 18:54, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

Hello Mark. I apologize for not responding more quickly. I will certainly email you a copy; in addition, you can find the article at User:MarkBruno/Florian Hutter. I find that spitting out a bunch of policies in your face while trying to advise you on how to write the best article possible and help it survive is both tedious for me and overwhelming for someone new to this site. Therefore, I will userfy it for you and we can improve it together. I'll try to point you in the right direction while helping you edit the article and answer your questions. I'm busy in real life and actually a bit stressed too, so Wikipedia isn't my priority right now (nor is it ever :p – I just have more time for this place sometimes than other times); however, I'll try to respond in a timely manner. Happy editing, Airplaneman 21:35, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

OK, Thanks! No apology necessary! and - thanks for userfying the page and thanks for the email!

Unable to make changes to an existing article

I would like to make some changes to the Wikipedia article on the drug Naltrexone. I feel these changes are necessary because Naltrexone, which was formerly for the management of alcohol dependency alone, has now been approved for the treatment of opiate addiction. So I would like to add a full section on its new, broader uses in addition to some other minor changes. However, I am unable to edit the article text. The article does not seem to be protected so I'm puzzled. I'm guessing there's something that I'm not aware of. Can you please advise me on how I should proceed? If you would like to see my proposed changes, just let me know. Thanks!Michael Leeman (talk) 14:10, 27 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm... I was able to edit as an IP and as a sysop, so I'm not encountering the problem you had. It's puzzling, and I think there's something about the article that I don't know as well. Try purging your cache or restarting your browser/using a different one. If that doesn't work, you can just give me the text and I'll insert it on your behalf. Airplaneman 15:35, 27 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much! I'll try your suggestions above and get back to you if I encounter further problems.Michael Leeman (talk) 17:41, 27 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again for your suggestion! I restarted my browser and was able to edit the Naltrexone article. Can you please look it over and let me know if it looks okay? The main thing I changed was to exand "Opiate Addiction" and make it its own section (rather than a sub-section of "Other Uses") since Naltrexone is now approved for treatment of opiate addiction. (I also removed some info from the "Alcohol dependence" section as there was no source for it and I believe it to be incorrect.) Thanks. By the way, it was extremely nice of you to offer to insert the text for me. I greatly appreciate it!Michael Leeman (talk) 21:20, 27 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome; I'm glad it worked! Your changes look good and they contribute positively to the article, so no complaints there ;). Airplaneman 06:40, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much! I am very grateful for all your help!Michael Leeman (talk) 20:55, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Another template

I'm having a problem with yet another template. (Template:Infobox NASCAR race) The image part is showing up like it is there, when theres not an image. (Review: Atlanta 500) Do you know how to fix this? --Nascar1996 21:30, 27 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think I figured out the problem: you have the "includeonly" around the logo template, but you don't have a function that hides the coding from showing up when there's no logo displayed. Because the template is deployed in so many areas, I don't want to mess with it. However, I will ask someone more familiar with template coding to take a look to see if they can devise a permanent solution. Airplaneman 06:32, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you are correct. I fixed it, with the added bonus that it won't try to show logos that don't exist. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 08:23, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Topic deletion

Morning Airplaneman.

I must apologise. I did not realise when starting a new topic to write about that I had saved it to go live. In my haste to log off my pc I thought I had saved the work so I could come back to it later not actually posted it up.

Am I free to start the same topic again? Thank you, TWBPL. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Twbpl (talkcontribs) 08:17, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello TWBPL; no need to apologize - if anything, I should apologize for responding so late. I deleted the article because it was tagged under WP:A7, which says that the article didn't assert notability. What we can do is I'll restore it to User:Twbpl/Tyne and wear bus preservation group where you can work on finding plenty of reliable sources to prove that the topic has significant coverage/notability; I can help you with formatting, complicated policies, and whatnot. However, I must warn you that if the subject does not meet the notability guideline, it may be listed for deletion again regardless of what we do. I know it's frustrating; it's happened to me before. However, if you would like, we can proceed! How does that sound? Airplaneman 06:36, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone help me, please?

Thank you very much, Airplaneman! I emailed DESiegel as you suggested but no response at all as yet. Could you please help me finish my page instead? And if not could you suggest someone to help me, please? Thanks a lot for your help Magiko (talk) 16:10, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

UPDATE: Dear Airplaneman, DESiegel has contacted me and is willing to help. Thank you very much for providing me with his email address - it made all the difference. Thanks a lot and very best wishes to you! Magiko (talk) 12:00, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2011 January newsletter

We are half way through round one of the WikiCup. Signups are now closed, and we have 129 listed competitors, 64 of whom will make it to round two. Congratulations to The Bushranger (submissions), who, at the time of writing, has a comfortable lead with 228 points, followed by Zanzibar Hurricanehink (submissions), with 144 points. Four others have over 100 points. Congratulations also go to Greece Yellow Evan (submissions), who scored the first points in the competition, claiming for Talk:Hurricane King/GA1, Principality of Sealand Miyagawa (submissions), who scored the first non-review points in the competition, claiming for Dognapping, and United Kingdom Jarry1250 (submissions) who was the first in the competition to use our new "multiplier" mechanic (explanation), claiming for Grigory Potemkin, a subject covered on numerous Wikipedias. Thanks must also go to Jarry1250 for dealing with all bot work- without you, the competition wouldn't be happening!

A running total of claims can be seen here. However, numerous competitors are yet to score at all- please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. The number of points that will be needed to reach round two is not clear- everyone needs to get their entries in now to guarantee their places! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Template 4 at TFD

I'm not sure why this is being continuously relisted. I see no serious delete votes, and several keep votes, with most recommending expansion of the practice to the other single digit templates. Is there something I am missing in the discussion? Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 06:56, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, there might be something that I am missing. I couldn't determine consensus after watching it (albeit not closely) for a while. However, after a closer read, I do indeed concur that there aren't any serious delete votes and two strong arguments for keeping this template. Undoing this relist is a possibilty, and I'm tempted to do that to fix my sloppy work—unless there's some policy/guideline that I'm not aware of that discourages this. Thanks for bringing this up, Airplaneman 07:10, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
And it has been relisted again. Please just close it and put it out of its misery. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 02:53, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Being Born Again Couture Fashion Show article

Hi Airplaneman,

Thank you for your comments. In http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Art_School, it "is written like an advertisement" according to administrator "Unt123" in "May 2009" and it was not taken down since. I would like to request that my article be put up again - I shall edit out all the advertising jargon. Where is it please? What could I do to improve the quality of the wikipedia article as well? Thank you. 14.200.69.191 (talk) 14:06, 2 February 2011 (UTC)Domenico.y[reply]

Hi Domenico; may you please point me to the comments I made? As for the National Art School article, here are the edits that Unt123 (talk · contribs) made. They aren't an administrator, having made three edits total. Instead, another user tagged the article here in May 2009. It indeed reads like an advertisement. Phrases such as "With a prestigious alumni and diverse history" should be weeded out. Furthermore, the article isn't referenced. Those are needed to back up the information presented. #5 at WP:NOTADVERTISING explains in detail how the article should be rewritten. Regards, Airplaneman 17:07, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks - I didn't explain myself clearly, I apologise for that. In http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Being_Born_Again_Couture_Fashion_Show, you deleted it because of "(G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion)". I would like to request that the "Being Born Again Couture" Wikipedia page article be put up again and I shall edit it again to remove all advertising jargon out of it. The "Being Born Again Couture" page is referenced correctly, in my opinion - what do you think of the references? Any tips as to how I improve the article please? Your help would be appreciated. Thank you very much, 14.200.69.191 (talk) 15:27, 3 February 2011 (UTC)Domenico.y[reply]

An Issue With the Article on Hamburger

Beginning the 18th-19th Century segment, there is this statement: "In the late 18th century, the largest ports in Europe were in Germany." I do not believe this statement is accurate. In the late 1700s and early 1800s, England, at least to my knowledge, was the most powerful navy in the world. At the time, it was engaged mainly in war with France. Also, in the early 1800s, England opposed Napoleon, and Germany was under the power of Napoleon, then. I do not see how Hamburg, etc., could be called a largest port in Europe at the time, for England would surely have blockaded it, esp., re: Napoleon & France. There is no mention of German ports in the reading I have done re: the British Royal Navy of the time. England was more concerned about blockading the French ports of Brest, Toulon, etc.

If the article meant "late 19th Century," then fine. But, I think the statement, as it stands, is inaccurate. This may be a very minor point in the article, but it does betray a certain inaccuracy of history, which many people gloss over and is a reason for much of current world problems, due to ignorance of or ignoring of, history.

Page protection for Georgians

Thank you for fulfilling my protection request but it appears that instead of semi-protection for 6 months, you placed a full protection. It will be nice if you could correct that. Thanks --ComtesseDeMingrélie 02:15, 3 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks; fixed. Airplaneman 02:34, 3 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for setting the semi-protection on the page. Do you think you could reset the protection reason to "Persistent addition of non-notable artists"? The addition of the redlinked/wrong-linked artists are in good faith, so are really not vandalism. Thanks. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 03:59, 3 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That's the problem. I'm convinced that more than half the aircraft mentioned at WP:WikiProject Aircraft/Missing articles aren't even notable. Using Google books doesn't give me enough to make it DYK-able. Oh well. The main issue is that most of those listed there are prototypes that they only built, like, 3 models of. Public Policy questions and suggestions

Hello Airplaneman,

I was wondering if you could help me decide, or give me any feedback, on some articles that I'm reviewing as potential victims for the public policy initiative. I have chosen 6 of them so far

I was just wondering if they are applicable to public policy- they should be since I got them through the "assessment" tab. Also which ones you think would work best. Are there any that you think I should work on since they need a lot of help? Things like that. Thanks mentor! Julietabulie (talk) 22:49, 12 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Julie! I made some formatting tweaks to your post above (view the changes here)—I think that's how you wanted your post to look like. As per the talk page guidelines (read about them at Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines), my tweaks are acceptable (what's not acceptable is changing the meaning of posts, etc. etc., but that's just common courtesy and most don't even consider doing that). If you don't like me messing with your posts, just yell at me :p. These changes also present a good opportunity for me to help introduce you to more aspects of Wikitext formatting, similar to HTML, which will help you when you write articles. When I first joined 3 years ago, I learned through trial and error as well as by watching others, and I found that effective. For your post, specifically, I added bullets (see Wikipedia:BULLET#Bulleted lists for a detailed explanation) and links (see Help:Link). OK, enough rambling, and onto the articles you mentioned!
All of the articles you mentioned seem to be in the scope of public policy. I am certainly no expert on public policy, but they seem applicable. As for which one I think would work the best: pick one that perks your interest the most, one that turns you on and makes you want to EDIT IT!!!! Or just one that you really want to know more about :). If all six are extremely interesting, I'd start with Seed and Grain Loan Act because it needs the most help in my opinion. It's barely a paragraph (which means there's basically no content) and contains no references. All of the articles could use a good makeover: expanding, copyediting, formatting, and additional quality references. Another factor you could use to help choose which article to work on is one that is the most closely related to what you're currently studying in class. Cheers, Airplaneman 02:37, 13 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. If you haven't yet, add this page and others you want to keep tabs on to your Watchlist (more on them at Help:Watching pages) by clicking the star near the top of the page to the left of the search bar. Check your watchlist and you'll see recent changes to the pages you have watched. Airplaneman 02:42, 13 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oh wow! Thanks so much for all of your help and input! I do not mind you fixing up my posts in the least! I am thinking about the Seed and Grain Loan Act since it really does need quite a bit of help. I will definitely keep you updated on everything. Thanks again! Julietabulie (talk) 03:18, 16 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Problem child

Hmm... This looks like an example of the "sneaky vandalism". And this is the accusation. This behavior is indeed concerning, and in this case rather annoying. BilCat warned them not too long before you posted this at User_talk:序名三#Civility and we'll see how that works. For now, I'll keep an eye on him and see what happens; I don't think any good will be done by giving him additional warnings right now; It'll just get him angry. Hello Domenico; I apologize for not responding to your previous post. The article, in an attempt to claim notability (I'm assuming), which it does, reads like an advertisement throughout, with phrases such as "10 top Australian fashion designers" and "The annual Couture show is the first of its kind on such a large scale". The "about" and "famous australian personas" sections especially read like an advertisement. These need to be rewritten in a more neutral tone. The references seem alright (I don't have time to go through them individually right now). I've restored the article to User:Domenico.y/Being Born Again Couture Fashion Show for you to work on it; I'll try to drop by and help as well. Regards, Airplaneman 06:01, 19 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Airplaneman - I think I have taken out all advertising - can you please check to see? I would be very grateful. Thanks again. 68.173.118.70 (talk) 21:40, 22 February 2011 (UTC) Domenico.y[reply]

Ew the new MW is messed up. Urgh. Anyway, I was looking over the Annabeth page, and the Film section seems to befilled with lots of OR. Any idea where there may be sources for those statements? Brambleclawx 15:59, 19 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yea, I know, what's up with the new MW? Many of my scripts aren't consistently working anymore, including Twinkle :/. Those references, in my experience, are hard to find. Really hard to find. Have you considered asking over at WP:FILM? They may know some good places (I don't). Sorry I didn't help much here, Airplaneman 05:49, 20 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm back in monobook for the time being. Airplaneman 03:31, 21 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Er... (still haven't read the actual books), when was it revealed that Luke was one of Annabeth's first half-blood friends? Brambleclawx 22:30, 21 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
While I'm here, check this out. Warriors is taking up quite a bit of that list. =) Brambleclawx 02:38, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't read the books in a while, either. I am pretty sure it was in the first book that Luke was revealed to be one of Annabeth's first half-blood friends. However, it's mentioned more than once, and the story of Percy Jackson as a whole has been mushed into one big plot line in my head, with no definitive splits between books in the series... and the hot articles list is pretty cool :). Looks like the Warrior cats are taking over. Airplaneman 12:18, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Userify request

Could you userify that article about the Hastings museum? I think it has possibilities as a full article (as I noted here) and would be more than willing to do the work it needs to bring it up to par (which when I read it appeared to just be adding references...it didn't look very spam-like). If you could, please userify it to User:Ks0stm/Sandbox 2 (just remove everything that's already there except the header). Thanks in advance, Ks0stm If you reply here, please leave me a {{Talkback}} message on my talk page. 16:11, 21 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I will. I just finished reading your post and Bencherlite's comment at RFPP and will give the article another try. Airplaneman 16:14, 21 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ah your opinion

Hello again; its nice to see you more active than during the winter. I have a question, what do you think of the 2011 Gatorade Duels article? It seems like there may be something missing, but I'm not sure. I would like to get the article to GA status. Thanks. Nascar1996 16:26, 21 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey! The article looks pretty good overall. I want to give it a good read-through when I have the chance. Do you think there should be an infobox? Airplaneman 19:50, 21 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Since there are two races, it would require two, and if I added them, the infoboxes would be too big. I tried that. I'm surprised by that because I was planning to put it in the 500 article, then I noticed the lap-by laps, so I decided to put the information there after the first duel, so I was busy working on that last minute change. Now I'm almost done with the 500 article, I just have to finish the post-race and fill in the intro. Nascar1996 20:16, 21 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, will you please the profanity from this edit summary? Thanks (I was way to mad when this happened). Nascar1996 21:09, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I would, but I'm not going to use the tools to help you cover up something you don't want others to see. I'm not sure it meets the "grossly insulting" or any other criterion present at WP:CFRD. As you said on Moriori's talk page, I think it's best to just learn from it and move on in this case. Airplaneman 22:48, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You are an admin, and should know all the processes, but could someone create protect all of the races until three days in advance so they won't be created too early? I'm wondering, after the F1 project are beginning to be concerned with WP:CRYSTAL. That guideline is partially confusing to me to begin with. Nascar1996 00:27, 23 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think there should be consensus found before doing something like this. 3 days is an arbitrary time. Why not 2 days? 4 days? I think the best course of action is to encourage others not to create pages too far in advance (due to, as you said, crystal ball concerns as well as notability issues). I find this as unnecessary at the present time. Airplaneman 15:20, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Okay I was wondering since I seen that thread on WikiProject F1. We have three articles that should not have been created, 2011 Ford 400, 2011 Emory Healthcare 500, and the 2011 Coca-Cola 600, which are all more than 3 months away, as well as the 2011 Sprint All Star race. Should these be deleted? I created 2011 Budweiser Shootout article way to early, and it was nominated for deletion twice, both times not deleted. There are particulary two or three editors who may create a race article, both who normally I don't see edit a lot. We created the next race held this Sunday, yesterday or the day before because this user wanted to create it for DYK before someone else created it. I really wanted it to be created today, but... Nascar1996 20:29, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Question: Can you create an article, and redirect it, then when it happens nominate for DYK? I only need to create one DYK to become get the triple crown. Nascar1996 00:09, 25 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hasting museum

Hi, the userfied version lacks the article history, which messes up attribution. DuncanHill (talk) 16:55, 21 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ack, I was afraid of that. Since Kso0stm said I could remove everything but the header, I will delete the current sandbox page and re-userfy the article. Airplaneman 19:39, 21 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I don't think that's necessary. The edit history doesn't look substantial, and I've cross-linked the pages in the logs when userfying (see edit summary here and here). I know that's not ideal, but I don't want to mess up the history of the sandbox as well. Sorry about the confusion, Airplaneman 19:42, 21 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If it would make things work easier, it can be re-userified as a new subpage of my userpage. Ks0stm If you reply here, please leave me a {{Talkback}} message on my talk page. 22:46, 21 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mentoring students: be sure to check in on them

This message is going out to all of the Online Ambassadors who are, or will be, serving as mentors this term.

Hi there! This is just a friendly reminder to check in on what your mentees are doing. If they've started making edits, take a look and help them out or do some example fixes for them, if they need it. And if they are doing good, let them know it!

If you aren't mentoring anyone yet, it looks like you will be soon; at least one large class is asking us to assign mentors for them, and students in a number of others haven't yet gotten to asking ambassadors to be their mentors, but may soon. --Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 20:05, 21 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This will help editors in restoring confidence to the GAN process as well as actively improving, polishing, and rewarding good content. If you are interested in participating in the drive, please place your name here. Awards will be given out to those who review certain numbers of GANs as well as to those who review the most. Hey Airplaneman. Does this qualify for speedy deletion? I would U1 it, but since I didn't create it, I'm not sure I can. (a case of posting in the wrong place, and myspacing, for that matter, I think) Brambleclawx 23:12, 23 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please reconsider use of Pending Changes on Justin Beaver, given the ongoing RfC on use of PC, and the notice regarding its use, and...well, the fact that there is no consensus for using it, beyond a trial period of 2 months which was from June 2010. Please see WP:PCRFC and feel free to comment there.  Chzz  ►  23:51, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Chzz. I was under the impression that one was to use it sparingly and with caution. I felt that in this case PC would work best. Thanks for linking the RfC; I wasn't aware of it. There's nothing saying not to use PC so I've been applying it to articles as I saw fit since it came out. Am I missing something here? Airplaneman 23:57, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict) x 3

No, my friend, you are not missing anything. There is no clear remit on whether it can be used or not; that's the purpose of the RfC. Basically, nobody knows. It's your own choice; there's no policy against it, and there is indeed that wording in WP:PROT about the poll agreeing such-and-such. Although, that poll was clearly about a temporary continuation, with a hard-stop date. I don't know any more, I really don't. It's all covered in the (somewhat tl;dr) RfC. My personal view is in there too - which is, as there is no consensus for its use, the current usage is anachronistic, and our only way ahead is to remove it, then work towards a consensus for any future implementation.
It seems to me like we're using a consensus about a short trial as a justification for keeping using it some 8 months later.
I really don't know...and the choice is yours. I suggest discussion in the RfC though. Really, nobody has a clue what is happening, right now.  Chzz  ►  00:10, 25 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm all for the most simple and effective implementation against BLP-type vandalism, and I thought PC would do its job in this case (as 99–100% of the vandalism was from IPs/non-reviewers, it'd prevent those revisions from being published). I gave the RfC a 15-minute skim (if you can call it that) and revisited Beaver's article history. As the vandalism is consistently recurring, but not unmanageable, I was hesitant at adding long-term semi-protection (say, 3-6 months), which would offer a simple defense for the vandalism. However, I wouldn't object to the article being semi-protected over PC-protected; however, I don't think unprotection would be good at the present time because of the type of vandalism the page receives. I'm not trying to say that "I'll do whatever pleases you"; I'm just stating my relative indifference to the use of PC or semi-protection in this case. Therefore, if you think it'd be better, I'll semi-protect the article. Airplaneman 21:29, 26 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hm, well, I think it is interesting to note that the version from 28 Nov 2010 is identical to the current - ie, there have been 0 useful edits since then - just 30 useless revisions. :So I suppose we could conclude that in the last 3 months, semi would have been "better"? I don't know. Certainly no worse; we didn't miss out on any edits in that time.
But note, Airplaneman - I'm not on some massive "PC is evil" crusade, I'm really not. My view is, that PC shouldn't be 'on' at the moment - but that does not mean I think it is useless.
I know the RfA is getting long. It's a complicated subject. But at least, now, it is up for discussion.
So - in conclusion; I'm not asking for you to necessarily change it; I don't really mind. I simply asked you, and a few other (about 5) admins who'd recently used PC to have a chat about their decision - and it's kinda helped; I've learned some stuff.
And the RfC goes on. Despite the length, I do hope to see you there. Maybe we can make a 'summary so far' and archive some. I do think, in some time, the RfC will become clearer; I think we're making progress. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  17:12, 27 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2011 February newsletter

So begins round two of the WikiCup! We now have eight pools, each with eight random contestants. This round will continue until the end of April, when the top two of each pool, as well as the next 16 highest scorers of those remaining, will make it to round three. Congratulations to The Bushranger (submissions) (first, with 487 points) and Zanzibar Hurricanehink (submissions) (second, with 459), who stormed the first round. Scotland Casliber (submissions) finished third with 223. Twelve others finished with over 100 points- well done to all of you! The final standings in round one can be seen here. A mere 8 points were required to reach round two; competition will no doubt be much more fierce this round, so be ready for a challenge! A special thanks goes, again, to United Kingdom Jarry1250 (submissions) for dealing with all bot work. This year's bot, as well as running smoothly, is doing some very helpful things that last year's did not. Also, thanks to Bavaria Stone (submissions) for some helpful behind-the-scenes updating and number crunching.

Some news for those who are interested- March will see a GAN backlog elimination drive, which you are still free to join. Organised by WikiProject Good articles, the drive aims to minimise the GAN backlog and offers prizes to those who help out. Of course, you may well be able to claim WikiCup points for the articles you review as part of the drive. Also ongoing is the Great Backlog Drive, looking to work on clearing all of the backlogs on Wikipedia; again, incentives are offered, and the spirit of friendly competition is alive, while helping the encyclopedia is the ultimate aim. Though unrelated to the WikiCup, these may well be of interest to some of you.

Just a reminder of the rules; if you have done significant work on content this year and it is promoted in this round, you may claim for it. Also, anything that was promoted after the end of round one but before the beginning of round two may be claimed for in round two. Details of the rules can be found on this page. For those interested in statistics, a running total of claims can be seen here, and a very interesting table of that information (along with the highest scorers in each category) can be seen here. Hi Airplaneman. Are you still mentoring this user? He and this user both need to be made aware of WP:COI, WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY and WP:COPYVIO. The article Polo Piatti has recently been created for the sixth time, with large chunks of blatant and promotional copyvio from Polo Piatti's website, which I have now removed. It was cut and pasted into article space from User:Magiko/drafts/Polo Piatti by Zaza888 and then "reviewed" by Magiko [2]. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 16:35, 6 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Voceditenore, thanks for the message. I have helped him in the past, but I currently don't have the time to properly watch his edits and give him thorough and complete advice/guidance; I do feel guilty about not being able to do more. As someone who has tried to help him in the past, I would think that he would be feeling quite discouraged now, having devoted so much time to the article. However, notifying him about these (it may not be the first time - I can't recall) policies is pertinent and necessary. I'll make sure he's aware of these pages. Airplaneman 14:59, 8 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Don't feel guilty. There's only so much one can do. I see from his talk page that he had excellent and very detailed advice about the article from another editor, all of which he completely ignored. I'd have a little more sympathy, if he weren't editing on Wikipedia solely to promote himself. I'll keep the article on watch and remove anything that's totally out of line and in the meantime have tagged the article for the relevant issues.
