Hello Bearcat...

I really need some help on my article on an individual who is a member of the Latch Brothers. I felt it pertains and is part of the lineage of my previous article. I am still learning and this is only my second article. I would love any help on this.

Sincerely,
Kurt Nardone

Hey Bearcat,

as you disapproved of the original Upload Cinema page, here's an attempt to make it shorter and strictly factual. All information was taken and translated from the Dutch Upload Cinema wiki. Hope this is more to your liking. Davidovitsj (talk) 09:47, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for adding cat to Macs Joy article. I only started the page to get rid of redlinks in the Brave Inca article (although it meets notability) and haven't spent as much time on it as I should have. Tigerboy1966 (talk) 09:59, 9 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Apparent mistaken categorization

Hello. I noticed that you put Canadian Yeshiva & Rabbinical School in an "Orthodox Yeshivas" category. The school is explicitly not Orthodox; it should be listed as non-denominational. Could you correct this? I am not as familiar with the categories and their use as you are. (Keep up the good work). Thanks, Mzk1 (talk) 12:52, 9 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Awa Marie Coll Seck

Thank you for pointing this out! The correct version of her name is apparently the one using a hyphen, so I'll merge the info in the article I created by pasting it to the existing article on Awa Marie Coll-Seck. I will probably do that later this evening. Is there a way to delete the old article (the unhyphenated version that I created) after I've finished with it?

A barnstar for you!

The Minor barnstar
THANK YOU SO MUCH for removing the transcluded space under the So You Think You Can Dance template/navigational bar. I have been working on the Tabitha and Napoleon D'umo article for a while and before your edit there was a space in the external links section between the SYTYCD bar and the SYTYCD Australia bar which was very annoying. I tried fixing it myself to no avail. Then you came along with your simple edit and made it all better. Keep up the great work! // Gbern3 (talk) 14:17, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of King Apparatus for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article King Apparatus is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/King Apparatus until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Archetypal (talk) 20:36, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is this a bit much?

Hi Bearcat, I was wondering of you could take a quick look at this edit[1] and give me any advice on how to handle it. The same edit has been made a couple of times already, I cleaned up per WP:MOS, only to have the editor put it back in and for some reason think the grammar is acurate. I was going to clean it up again, but because of the attack made in edit summary, I just reverted, pointed out that it didn't come close to manual of style policy. I left a message attempting to explain some of the problems. Editor is calling others stupid and liars, and claims he will just put it back in whenever other editors remove it. Because of this, I figure the text will be back soon, and would like to know how best to handle someone like this. Was I wrong to revert because of the MOS errors? I would also think there is some BLP problems here also. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. Cmr08 (talk) 00:49, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bearcat, to follow up on my earlier post, after another personal attack, I've decided to let others deal with him. I cleaned up the text per WP:MOS, but I doubt that editor will allow the correct formats to remain. If you still want to check this out, maybe a message from an experienced editor would convince him that wikipedia has a manual of style policy, but if you wish to disregard the above message, that's fine with me. I think I may have jumped the gun on getting you involved anyways, as there has only been a few edits involved. Cmr08 (talk) 04:44, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Palermo, Ontario

Hi,

I've undone your redirect at Palermo, Ontario in favour of rewriting the article. I agree that the article at that point in time made no assertion of any notability, but Palermo is an actual former village until 1962 when it was amalgamated. There's not a lot of information available online about the former village, but I've splapped some basic info and history down with references. If there is any issue with this rewrite, please let me know. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 20:16, 22 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article List of Gullah Gullah Island Episodes has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Redirect making sense

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. 76.110.64.213 (talk) 18:54, 24 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Merged article history

Hi Bearcat, since you merged the history of my draft userpage and the live Elonka Dunin article, would you mind posting a note of explanation at Talk:Elonka Dunin? Since I'm an admin, I'm trying to be very respectful of policies here, and as it stands, it may look to the casual viewer as though I edited my own bio, even though I did not. This might cause problems for me in the future, so I'd like to make sure everything is properly documented as to my involvement (or lack thereof). Hello, Bearcat … I just stumbled across New York Music Awards (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), and if ever there was an article in need of cleanup, this is it … I mean, nothing but links to Google Books and explicit URLs of Wikipedia pages? I noticed that you added some categories to it, and right now I'm in a don't give a damn mood, otherwise I'd take a hatchet to it, or more likely flag it for deletion (if only to attract attention for Some Other Editor to {{Rescue}} it) … anywho, I thought that you might like to take a crack at making it a keepable article. The article Deanne Crothers has been proposed for deletion because, under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Lashologist Council of America

I deleted this entry and you restored it. Please take a closer look. The LCA is not an independent regulatory body; it is an amateurish, anonymous website selling over-priced videos that has been hashed together with a bit of spin to make it appear as some kind of an industry organisation. The entire Wikipedia entry on the LCA reads like a marketing blurb and references only the LCA website or its press releases. The "organisation" (it is really a company) has absolutely no recognition from any cosmetology organisations or companies to speak of. Neither of its founders named in the Wikipeda article appear to exist. Wikipedia does a disservice to its reputation by keeping entries like this on its books. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.179.129.114 (talk) 07:26, 9 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I deleted a prior incarnation of this article under a different name. Since then, it has expanded and the subject now appears to meet some of the WP:BAND criteria. The version you deleted, I had declined to delete because I felt it met the inclusion criteria, so I tagged it with multiple issues instead. I'm inclined to restore the article (also the talk page discussion on renaming should continue), but I wanted to know your reasoning for deleting it first. ~Amatulić (talk) 15:32, 10 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply on my talk page.
Notwithstanding the obvious COI and puffery language, which are easily corrected, I declined to delete because I examined the sources before tagging the article with multiple issues:
All those sources were in the article, and all were described. An artist needs to meet only one of those to qualify for an article. Would you reconsider? The article certainly needs cleaning up, but I don't see its problems as meriting deletion (not like the original versions that I deleted). ~Amatulić (talk) 00:29, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You're missing an important point: WP:BAND is quite explicit about the inclusion criteria. They are objective, easily verifiable criteria. The guideline is also explicit that only one needs to be met for inclusion. Some of those criteria cannot possibly be supported by sources about the subject, because they are themselves lists (placing on a chart, air play rotation, nominations).
If you disagree with that notability guideline, the place to get it changed is over at the village pump. I am frankly surprised that you would interpret those sources above as insufficient when they clearly meet the inclusion criteria (regardless of whether HMMA is a "major" award). ~Amatulić (talk) 17:37, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Bear in mind also that WP:BAND also says that failing to satisfy the notability guidelines is not a criterion for speedy deletion. Claims of notability are made in the article, disqualifying it for speedy. There was no valid basis for speedy deletion per WP:CSD#A7; if you can point it out to me I welcome being corrected.
This really should have been taken to AfD. At the very least, the article should be restored so that process may take place.
Odd... the FMQB chart is updated every Tuesday. I could swear I saw his single on it when I first checked it. Now it isn't there. Unfortunately archive.org hasn't crawled it at all this year. ~Amatulić (talk) 19:05, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bearcat, I hope you are well. My name is Matthew Roth and I'm a Storyteller working on the 2011 fundraiser with the Wikimedia Foundation in San Francisco. In past years, we've relied on Jimbo to carry the bulk of the fundraising weight and he's done very well helping us hit our yearly funding targets. This year, however, we're broadening the scope and reach of the fundraiser by incorporating more voices and different people on the funding banners and appeals that will start running full-time on November 7th. We're testing new messages and finding some really great results with editors and staff members of the Foundation. You can see the current progress of the tests here. I'm curious if you would want to participate in an interview with me as part of this process? The interviews usually last 60 minutes and involve a number of questions about your personal editing experiences, as well as general questions about Wikipedia and its impact in the world. Please let me know by emailing mroth (at) wikimedia.org. Thanks! Matthew (WMF) 22:32, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Bearcat: Several people have been involved in my new article. As I stated on my talk page for the article, whoever moved it to it's own page after acceptance, moved it to the wrong page: to "Discography" instead of "discography." I asked for help in learning how to move the page, then someone did it for me. The there is the problem of the double-redirect on the main Sergio Franchi page. I corrected the redirect it to where the discography page now resides at "discography." Then finally, the discussion page is at "D" amd the discussion at "d" is blank!!! Congratulations!

Executive Director's Barnstar
Bearcat!, it is with enormous joy that I award you the Executive Director's Barnstar, which I give out every now and then to celebrate editors who are making particularly significant contributions to the Wikimedia projects. I'm particularly proud and happy to give it to you because you're a fellow Canadian, and because you are the first Wikipedian I ever "recognized" on the wikis, way back in 2006.

At the time, I was working for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and my then-boss Richard Stursberg had asked me to investigate whether it made sense for the CBC to create a Wikipedia for Canada -- essentially, a wiki that would be run by the CBC, documenting Canadian culture and history. My research found that the English Wikipedia already offered terrific, comprehensive coverage of Canada, and so a CBC wiki wasn't necessary. In the course of doing that research, you became the first Wikipedian who was identifiable to me, because you were making important contributions to Wikipedia's coverage of a multitude of Canada-related topics, including the article on the CBC itself, as well as topics such as Jack Layton, the Charlottetown Accord, Mr. Dressup, the Crash Test Dummies, Sears, the Rhinoceros Party, the Nickel Belt, the Munsinger Affair, Tim Hortons, and countless other topics. Thank you so much for documenting Canadian culture and sharing it with the world!

Since you registered in 2003, you've worked on 27,617 articles, including creating 14,401 new articles. You've made more than 534K edits, with a total add/remove count of more than 2.9 million bytes. (I know this because the Community Department at the Wikimedia Foundation has been playing around with data, aiming to identify the most active editors on the English Wikipedia, and you are one of them.) I have no idea how you've managed to do this volume of work: it's really extraordinary. Thank you for everything you've done, and continue to do, for the Wikimedia projects. You are providing a huge service for hundreds of millions of Wikipedia readers, and particularly for Canadians, and anyone interested in Canadian culture :-)

If you, or anyone reading this, wants to nominate an editor for the ED Barnstar, please feel free to do it on my talk page. Sue Gardner (talk) 01:58, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article River Oaks, Ontario has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Completely non-notable neighbourhood of Oakville, Ontario. With no information in the Oakville article, a redirect would just confuse a reader. Article created by a now blocked sockpuppet.

Fatima Mansions saga

Things seem to be going from bad to worse. Left a few notes at User talk:89.100.150.198. Wonder if you could help out. Will understand though if you've run out of patience on this. Best. RashersTierney (talk) 20:26, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

George Butterworth (psychologist)

Hi there. I've just cleaned up George Butterworth (psychologist), which was an article contributed by a new user using the Article Creation Wizard. However, the text submitted was copied from the source provided, which is a problem (I've just deleted the revisions that are copyright violations, and left the original editor a note). I'm also leaving notes with those who edited the article since its creation, as I want to try and work out what went wrong here. I've been told there was a big backlog at new pages patrol in September and October (may still be one for all I know), so maybe that was it. You moved the page and added a review tag. I think others removed that tag, but it should still have been caught earlier really. Anyway, hope you can provide some insight into how to avoid this happening again. RECNET

Hey Bear, looks like RECNET is back offline and will be until November 20, 2011. The following message appears when you search for anything via the cdbs.recnet.net website:

Due to the REC facility move, the following services are temporarily not available:

Broadcast Query (FMQ)
LPFM Channel Search
Encroachment
Scoreboard
ASPEN
Media Ownership
FMFIND

We are estimating that these services will return on or before November 20, 2011.

We apologize for the interruption at this time.

For the most current information regarding our facility move:

REC Home Page - http://home.recnet.com
REC on Facebook - http://facebook.com/recnet

Not sure how you want to handle this, but if you are taking suggestions, I would consider having the {{RecnetCanada}} hidden (from inside the template code, not each individual page), so that the code remains on the pages, but is out of sight until the RECNET move is complete. I will keep an eye on the site and let you know when they go back online. - NeutralhomerTalk08:10, 7 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Organizations based in Victoria

Hi Bearcat, User:Me-123567-Me wants to contested deletion about the category title Category:Organizations based in Victoria The organization based in Victoria does not include the province name, every category does contain Victoria, British Columbia to include the province name. So, could you write a message to User:Me-123567-Me is about the category "Organizations based in Victoria" The only category title is people confused so many Victorias. So write a message to User:Me-123567-Me and at the category talk page Category:Organizations based in Victoria#Contested deletion cause User:Me-123567-Me already write a message contesting the category. So do it immediately. Thanks. P.S. I already create Category:Organizations based in Victoria, British Columbia category to include the province name. Steam5 (talk) 04:24, 9 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm disappointed the history didn't go with the old category to the new one. It's unfair. Me-123567-Me (talk) 05:05, 9 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Recnet (broadcasting)

Hi there, just thought i'd like to let you know that the recnet.com website is down for a week or so, so if you notice any of the recnets missing near the bottom of each radio station articles (example: CBO-FM) that's why. When the recnet is up and running again, the links will reappear on the radio/television station articles. I had created two new radio station articles today for new radio stations in 89.7 FM Port Hope, Ontario and 107.9 FM Prescott, Ontario. These stations were approved today (November 10, 2011) by the CRTC. Webfan29 (talk) 16:00, 10 November 2011 (UTC).[reply]

Port Moody–Westwood

Hey Cat, I was about to move back the article to hyphen the correct title Port Moody-Westwood. And there was an error message not to move. And some user already move and use the incorrect type of dash, that is an en dash (–). All of the British Columbia provincial ridings uses hyphen symbols on every riding name for e.g. Vancouver-West End. Could you move the article "Port Moody-Westwood" to it's correct title "Port Moody-Westwood". The article Port Moody-Westwood uses small information and the article is a stub. No requested move needed. If you read my message, go to the Port Moody-Westwood article move it correct title. OK? Thanks. Steam5 (talk) 18:58, 14 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mari Maseng

It's irrelevant what you think or want her name to be. Please stop rewriting history. There's a redirect for people who are confused as to what her name is, which is Mari Maseng. See her own use, media use, and everyone else's use. That's her name. She is married to George Will, but it doesn't necessarily follow that she has to use his last name. Is that clear? Perhaps the rules are different in your country, but that's how it is in the U.S. Wikipedia uses the most common name for article titles, not someone's whimsical choice. 75.60.19.247 (talk) 23:21, 14 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If I had known Admins do whatever they're asked with no questions asked, I might be tempted to ask all of you to jump off the nearest high cliff. Please revert the name. If you don't have time to check out a change, imo you shouldn't have time to do it. I am furious that here she is, in the headlines, and Wikipedia looks clueless. Again. I see no discussion on the article's Talk page, and I see no request on your Talk page either. Did someone request it in some chat room and you thought that was sufficient? 75.60.19.247 (talk) 23:28, 14 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Marc Levin

Thank you for your comments. The entry for Marc Levin was both sited and sourced before the first time you reverted. Also, although it may have looked like the proper encyclopedia entry, the information contained in it was not all correct. I was in the process of sourcing and editing at the time of your last revert. Please, edit rather than revert. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Teresa Gabry (talkcontribs) 16:21, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oh hey, I didn't even notice you were an admin earlier, but that actually helps re: your other edits on the CFNY-FM page. The external site links that you removed, I can understand the rationale but I hate to see them gone completely. Would it violate any Wikipedia policies if I were to re-insert them as references instead? Maybe not formatted exactly the same--many of them would probably survive as proper references by moving them to end of sentences. For instance--the statement I put in that the Josie's Top 20 lists are archived on the Edge website is now just an unverified statement. I'm just not sure where reference ends and frivolous link begins, is all. DigiFluid (talk) 21:38, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

StreetNet

Not that it is very important to me.... but as you deleted streetNET without even contacting me.... thus appearently the page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:PN has absolute no meaning to you, I can just tell you :

- If you are such a fine judge about content, then it might be a good think to discuss whatever before , at least someone will learn....

As you did not do that , I can just nominate you as a reference for Wikipedia.

Thank you very much for your efforts.... no need to answer, sure you will delete also this.

Goodwood Kartways

Hi Bearcat. You recently deleted the "Goodwood Kartways" page, claiming that it was self promotional. Goodwood Kartways has been a significant establishment in the karting community for well over 40 years, similarly to Mosport. Although the facilities are used for amateur racing, they have played a significant role in formulating known racers' careers as well as in recent years playing host to important events in the Karting community. Please let me know how I could have improved the article, as I had only begun working on it. I don't feel it deserved to have been deleted. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hartla29 (talkcontribs) 14:31, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Goodwood Kartways

Hi Bearcat. I appreciate your reply regarding my concern. I have taken your advice and started to compile articles that support the entry and attempt to make it more credible. I understand the comparison to Mosport may have been reaching, but I do believe that Goodwood has significance in the Karting community. Can it be undeleted so I can begin to add more substantial and supportive links? Any other suggestions would be welcome. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hartla29 (talkcontribs) 14:44, 23 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

St-Jean Chiefs to Saint-Jean Chiefs

Hi Bearcat, I was about to move the title "St-Jean Chiefs" to "Saint-Jean Chiefs" and there was an error message not to move. On the St-Jean Chiefs article, it shows little information and the article is a stub. No requested move is needed. So, go to the St-Jean Chiefs article and move the new title from "St-Jean Chiefs" to "Saint-Jean Chiefs" to match the related titles that has "Saint-Jean" for e.g. "Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu". Do it right away. OK? Thanks. Steam5 (talk) 01:23, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

weatherbase.com

Hi Bearcat, can you review this? Are these contributions a WP:COI? I see part of their website's business model is advertising. Also, it is my interpretation of their data sources that they create climate data for communities without weather stations, such as Wagner, Alberta through extrapolation based on proximity to other communities with weather stations. Is that WP:Speculation? Hwy43 (talk) 22:02, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Kirkman Finlay

Did you read the article Kirkman Finlay (philhellene) before putting this request at the bottom? -- PBS (talk) 12:10, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I take from your reply that the answer to my question it that was a no. I am interested your statement "every article on Wikipedia must be properly categorized with no exceptions", which policy includes that? Don't misunderstand me I don't doubt it exists, it just there are so many policies and guidelines, that it is quite possible to miss some. -- PBS (talk) 21:38, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

St-Jean Chiefs requested move

Hi Bearcat, I am going to make a propose requested move for renaming "St-Jean Chiefs" to "Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu Summum-Chiefs" for renaming the regular title "St-Jean Chiefs" is too short and this is to match the "Saint-Jean" related article titles for example "Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu" and "Saint-Jean Airport". So, go the St-Jean Chiefs talk page and under requested move The link is here. Talk:St-Jean Chiefs#Requested move And talk to User:DJSasso. I will see you at the St-Jean Chiefs's talk page. Hello Bearcat...

I really need some help on my article on an individual who is a member of the Latch Brothers. I felt it pertains and is part of the lineage of my previous article. I am still learning and this is only my second article. I would love any help on this.
