"Sweet Love"
Song

"Sweet Love" is a song by American recording artist Chris Brown. It was produced by Polow da Don for his upcoming fifth studio album, Fortune (2012). The song will be released digitally on April 17, 2012, as the second single from the album. Musically, "Sweet Love" is a slow jam R&B ballad that revolves around Brown asking his lady to get naked so they can make sweet love. The song received mixed reviews from critics and has so far charted at number 90 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

Background and composition

"Sweet Love" was produced by Polow da Don.[1] On March 28, 2012, Brown announced via Twitter that he would be releasing two new singles from the album Fortune: "Real R&B and Hip Hop coming soon! "SWEET LOVE" next single(R&B). "TILL I DIE" next single(rap) ft @BigSean and WIZ KHALIFA!".[2] He then posted a link to a stream of "Sweet Love" later that same day.[3] The black and white single cover was posted online on March 30, 2012, and shows Brown sitting on the floor staring up at the legs of three females.[4] Rap-Up magazine called the cover "grown and sexy".[4] "Sweet Love" will be released digitally in the United States on April 17, 2012.[5]

"Sweet Love" is a slow jam R&B ballad.[6][7] The instrumentation of the song is provided by synthesizers and a drum machine.[6][8] According to Nadeska Alexis of MTV's Rapfix, Brown sings in a falsetto tone, which she found to be reminiscent of Michael Jackson.[9] Amy Sciarretto of PopCrush likened the tune to Justin Bieber.[8] Lyrically, the track is about Brown asking his lady to get naked so they can make sweet love.[10] In the chorus, he harmonizes: "Oooh baby let's get naked / Just so we can make sweet love / All these sensations got me going crazy for you / Inside on top of you / Grinding inside and out of you /Baby I know what to do / Let's just take our clothes off".[9][10]

Critical reception

Nadeska Alexis of MTV's Rapfix commented that "Breezy keeps the sexiness at an all time high throughout the tune with explicit lyrics that, in theory, could easily win any girl over."[9] Contessa Gayles of The Boombox described "Sweet Love" as "baby making music".[7] Amy Sciarretto of PopCrush commented that "its that sexy of an R&B jam" that could "easily woo Rihanna back."[8] A writer for Fuse TV described "Sweet Love" as a "sexy" song that is "basically auditory pornography".[11] Joseph Patterson of MTV UK called it "classic Chris Brown and is definitely one for the lovers."[12] Robbie Daw of Idolator gave the song a mixed response and felt that it "isn't really the most innovative offering" they've heard from Brown.[10] Daw concluded that "the track is (pardon the pun) breezy enough to keep radio programmers pleased this spring."[10] Melinda Newman of HitFix criticized the production because she felt that "the synth drum beat totally overwhelms and clashes with the ballad."[6]
