==Criticism==
===Phone freeze===
Some users have experienced unexpected freezes and restarts with HTC EVO 3D.<ref>[http://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/73278?start=30]</ref> Various reports that the phone freezes frequently on idle or immediately after the phone waking from sleep. Few believe that the problem is caused by firmware version installed on the phone, and a factory reset should solve the issue. Most of the users who are having the issue had no luck doing a factory reset of the phone, as the freezes continued to occur with any sign of reduction in its frequency.
===Random restart===
Some users experience random restarts while using the phone and often times the system are unable to recover from these restarts as it loops in the Sprint welcoming logo cycle.<ref>[http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-3d/363924-random-rebooting.html]</ref> It is reported that the infinite loop issue can be fixed by pulling out the battery and putting it back in to perform a proper power up of the phone. However, the fix does not stop the random restart issue from occurring in future uses as some believes that the issue is associated with the heat generated by the battery which forces the motherboard to perform safe restart.
A senior member in xda-developers.com forum claims that he has found a possible permanent fix to the restart issue. He claims that he has solved the issue by reformatting the SD card, wiping phone cache and flashing to a [[ROM]].
===Battery Life===
Some users have complained that the battery life for the HTC EVO 3D have not improved from its predecessor, [[HTC EVO 4G]]<ref>[http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-3d/333120-battery-life-battery-options-12.html]</ref>. Some reports the battery life is poor as it often times does not last for a full day under normal usage (emailing, calling, texting). Experts explain that its 3D shooting/recording and high CPU frequency (Dual-core 1.2 Ghz) is responsible for its short battery life, and it can be improved significantly by reducing the use of 3D or flashing to a rooted ROM to perform CPU frequency under-clocking<ref>[http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1141221]</ref>.

The HTC EVO 3D (also known as HTC EVO V 4G) is an Android smartphone that allows for the creation and viewing of 3D content through the use of two 5 MP rear-facing cameras and a glasses-free 3D-capable 4.3" qHD touch screen. In the United States, the EVO 3D is available on the Sprint and Virgin Mobile networks. Several GSM variants are also available in Canada, Europe and Asia.

History

Sprint announced the HTC EVO 3D during CTIA in Orlando, Florida, on March 22, 2011. On May 2, Best Buy employees received permission to start receiving pre-orders for the HTC Evo 3D, but only if a customer who was not planning on buying a currently available model specifically requested it.[citation needed]

On May 19, 2011, information was leaked on various websites of a possible June 4 release date for the phone. The leak appeared to originate from an internal Radio Shack email.

On May 24, 2011, it was confirmed that the Evo 3D has been locked down with a cryptographically signed bootloader, recovery, and kernel image - thereby most likely foreclosing custom roms such as CyanogenMod. On May 24, 2011 HTC released a statement via Facebook, saying that they are reviewing their bootloader policy. On May 26, 2011 Peter Chou, the CEO of HTC, announced on Facebook that "we will no longer be locking the bootloaders on our devices." [5] Since this statement, a bootloader unlock method for this device, as well as other locked devices, have become available via HTC's developer website, HTCDev.com.

A Radio Shack ad leaked the price for the Evo 3D at US$199.99 with 2-year contract or $600.00 and $499.99 without contract, with a trade in credit on the HTC Evo 4G or Evo Shift of $100.

A second Radio Shack ad leaked on June 1 indicated that the Evo 3D will be released on June 24, with pre-orders ending on June 24. It maintained that the Evo 3D will be $100 off with the trade in of either the HTC Evo 4G or the HTC Evo Shift 4G

On June 6, 2011[6], Sprint officially announced that the HTC Evo 3D will be available on June 24, 2011. Internet retailer Wirefly posted a video review of the HTC EVO 3D on June 6, 2011. It was also reported the phone would be available worldwide, and in Canada on the Rogers network.

On July 27, 2011[7], Vodafone UK announced that it will not offer the HTC Evo 3D citing delays and has removed it from its coming soon page.

A spokesman for the company states:

"There’s been speculation recently regarding availability of HTC EVO 3D.
We can confirm that due to delays in the launch of the HTC EVO 3D, we no longer intend to include the device in our smartphone range. We’ll be contacting any customers who registered their interest shortly.
We realize this might come as a disappointment, but we’ve got some really exciting handsets in the pipeline. Keep an eye on our coming soon section for all the latest information about the products coming to Vodafone."

The EVO 3D has since been released in Australia as of September 2011 by both Telstra and Vodafone using GSM/3G networking.

The HTC India, has launched the EVO 3D on March, 22,2011 MRP Rs.35,990 ($673 approx.)[8]

Also on January 12, 2012 HTC Software Update 2.17.651.5 fixed the device clock issue (GPS-disciplined rather than UTC, hence 15 seconds fast, like in the EVO 4G).

On April 4, 2012,HTC Evo 4G LTE, the direct successor to the HTC EVO 3D, was announced and it can be preorder on May 7th from Sprint. Its next generation will feature upgrade Android 4.0 ICS operating system, 1.5 GHz dual-core professor, 1GB RAM and 16GB of internal memory with no external memory and removable battery support

On April 21, 2012, shortly after the announcement of its successor, HTC Evo 4G LTE, Sprint officially announced that the HTC EVO 3D is no longer available for sale in its online store

On May 8th, at CTIA 2012, it was reported by Engadget and The Verge that, starting on May 31st, Virgin Mobile USA would begin selling the EVO 3D (under the name HTC EVO V 4G) to it's customers at $299.99 sans contract. [9] [10] The Virgin Mobile version will be sold running Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS), with HTC Sense version 3.6 running atop of the OS, making it the first prepaid handset to launch with Android 4.0.

Features

The HTC EVO 3D stays true to its previous EVO’s classic outlook while introducing many more refined features. The front of the device is designed nearly identical to its predecessors, HTC EVO 4G, HTC Evo Shift 4G and HTC EVO Design 4G. However, the rest of the appearance of the phone looks completely renovated, as it adds camera shutter button and 2D/3D control switch on the side. In addition, on the rear you’ll find its most innovative feature, the two 5.0 megapixel cameras to capture 2D/3D photos and videos up to 720p. In addition, there are some minor changes in positioning to its volume button and miscroUSB port, and the microUSB port doubles up as microHDMI.

Processor and Memory

The EVO 3D is powered by the Qualcomm MSM8660 chipset which contains dual Snapdragon Scorpion microprocessor, each clocked at 1.2 GHz and an embedded Adreno 220 for improved graphic performance. It also features 1GB of RAM which allows a smoother experience while pairing up with its powerful dual-core Snapdragon processor.

It is also the first mobile phone which features naked eye 3D display technology. The phone is capable of switching between 2D / 3D for gaming as well as image viewing.

Camera

This EVO features two rear-facing 5 megapixel cameras capable of capturing videos and photos in 720p and dual LED flash which can be turned on to helps to illuminate objects. The device also features a single 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera for video conferencing and taking portrait photos and it can be used in some other applications on the market.

Storage

The EVO 3D features 1GB internal storage and a pre-installed 8GB Class 2 microSDHC card. With the microSD slot which is feature across the EVO generations, it allows user to expand further up to 32GB.

3D viewing

The naked eye 3D viewing technology is newly introduced to the mobile device market, and many users have reported poor viewing angles and some have experienced eye strain and headaches after extensive views of 3D images on the phone[11].
