• The Ohio Historical Society will be releasing the love letters between Carrie Phillips and President Warren G. Harding, 100 years after the death of President Harding.
• 3 March - TIME Magazine will most likely celebrate its 100th anniversary.
• 29 October - 100th anniversary of the establishment of Republic of Turkey.
• 31 December - just before this year ends, on 12:31 PM and 23 seconds will be 12:31:23 12/31/23, using American date formatting.

Fictional events

• The Nintendo 64 game Perfect Dark takes place in 2023.
• In the movie Click, the main character (played by Adam Sandler) uses his remote control to fastforward himself through time -- however, the remote becomes automatic, and he is unwillingly sent to the year 2023. In 2023, he attends a wedding and is sent to a hospital after bursting an artery.
  • According to the movie, in 2023 the cars will be futuristic but there wont be any hovercraft as predicted in Back to the Future Part II. Also, people are predicted to use styluses more commonly on their computers than keyboards.
  • Because 2023 was set in New York, when the skyline is shown, two completed Freedom Towers can be seen (even though in real life, only one is planned to be made). This contradicts with an earlier part of the film (in 2023) when the main character is seen on a large TV screen and behind him is only one Freedom Tower.
• In the "Turing Option" book by Marvin Minsky and Harry Harrison the construction of a superintelligent robot is predicted in the year 2023.
