ArbCom 2018 election voter message

Hello, GenQuest. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

December 2018 GOCE newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors December 2018 Newsletter

Hello and welcome to the December 2018 GOCE newsletter. Here is what's been happening since the August edition.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the August blitz (results), which focused on Requests and the oldest backlog month. Of the twenty editors who signed up, eleven editors recorded 37 copy edits.

For the September drive (results), of the twenty-three people who signed up, nineteen editors completed 294 copy edits.

Our October blitz (results) focused on Requests, geography, and food and drink articles. Of the fourteen people who signed up, eleven recorded a total of 57 copy edits.

For the November drive (results), twenty-two people signed up, and eighteen editors recorded 273 copy edits. This helped to bring the backlog to a six-month low of 825 articles.

The December blitz will run for one week, from 16 to 22 December. Sign up now!

Elections: Nominations for the Guild's coordinators for the first half of 2019 will be open from 1 to 15 December. Voting will then take place and the election will close on 31 December at 23:59 UTC. Positions for Guild coordinators, who perform the important behind-the-scenes tasks that keep our project running smoothly, are open to all Wikipedians in good standing. We welcome self-nominations, so please consider nominating yourself if you've ever thought about helping out; it's your Guild and it doesn't run itself!

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators; Reidgreg, Baffle gab1978, Jonesey95, Miniapolis and Tdslk.

Information icon Please do not delete or edit legitimate talk page comments, as you did at Talk:CAF Confederation Cup#Merge with CAF Cup. Such edits are disruptive, and may appear to other editors to be vandalism. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. Matthew hk (talk) 22:55, 3 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Special:Diff/810931526. Brio-En made a comment almost a decade ago before your thread on the possible merge, but did not express it was a vote, which you added the support wording for him, which is outside normal page formatting or unsign matter (even typo, usually are forbidden to correct for others). Special:Permalink/844111154. Right before your close, he use alternative account Brio to made another vote of support, thus, for such thread, you may ping the user, but not refactor the comment from just comment to clear vote, and it was a bad close i already talked about. Matthew hk (talk) 06:40, 9 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
My bad. I was going through old merge requests and cleaning up. Pretty sure I read that one as 2018, not 2008. Those requests will sometimes sit for months, so April wasn't t0o far out of normal. Now, ten years is a different matter. :-) GenQuest "Talk to Me" 06:56, 9 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You added the comment in 2017, so not that possible to misread as 2018. Also, no sure about other project, but posting stuff in Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Nominations for deletion and page moves, would usually generated enough discussion to close (either clear consensus of yes/no, or no consensus / clear stalemate and then cooled down thread), but that thread no one even noticed. Matthew hk (talk) 08:42, 9 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Not impossible, as that is exactly what I did. As a major contributor to the Wikipedia:Proposed mergers, I am often dealing with messages a upto a year or more old, and have to put them into an order that makes sense to the discussion. I just misread this one as it was already under a Merge sub-header. Sorry again. GenQuest "Talk to Me"

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited John Wayne Gacy, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Dupe (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver).

I would have thought that as a member of Project Kindness and as a libertarian you would have allowed me a red link in the Hope Diamond as the way that I prepare for writing new articles. But that’s what I get for thinking, I get to be wrong. Carptrash (talk) 16:25, 16 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Why was I blocked from making Accurate changes to an article? I am sorry for wanting Wikipedia to be a more accurate environment, but I thought that was the point of the matter. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Darthsevere (talkcontribs) 19:59, 6 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You need to cite those kind of changes that you made to the band articles. Adding "...He is also Famously Related to the great Business man and ninja Joshua Severe of Ohio and his Son Tyler Severe (neurologist)..." is just plain vandalism, which will always red-flag your account for further scrutiny around here. Regards, GenQuest "Talk to Me" 20:20, 6 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I was about to delete, when I noticed has has been an MP, so notability is not an issue; promotionalism is, of course, but I rewrote it. Could you help keep track to see it is not restored? DGG ( talk ) 01:50, 8 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@DGG: Sure. I missed that addition. GenQuest "Talk to Me"

What are you doing??

Yes, there is a request that Az-Zeeb should be merged into Achziv, but editors have not showed a great enthusiasm for it. And then you go and unilaterally move it? Bad move, Huldra (talk) 22:14, 9 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Huldra: Not liking the pointy question. I am working from the project merge que and following protocol. The discussion regarding this merge has been open since Aug of 2017. The two articles describe the same place—pretty much a no brainer where the merge requests are concerned. The only reason it has not been done so far is due to the complexity of the merge. If you didn't want the merger to happen, then YOU should should have voiced your concern on the article talk page AND gathered consensus there to remove the merge from the que so the Merge Project members are not wasting hours on a Saturday morning working on a difficult merge only to have it arbitrarily reverted. GenQuest "Talk to Me" 23:17, 9 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry that I came across "pointy", but to me this is a no-brainer: if you look at Az-Zeeb, you will see that for "current locations" we have Gesher HaZiv Sa'ar...in addition to Achziv. So how can we merge 1 article into 3? Answer: we cannot. Yeah, I should have done more to end the merge talk, but that got lost among the 7000+ articles I have on my watch list, Huldra (talk) 23:26, 9 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Reversion of merge proposal

I reverted your merge proposal on List of named storms (Z) as no discussion was created for it. Please understand that this is an SIA article that is solely for the purpose of navigation. I am splitting the list of U-Z up to make it easier for users to find storms. It works better having the storm names larger and separated by horizontal lines (level 2) than smaller and without any lines (level 3). If you still want to merge the article, please create a discussion. NoahTalk 20:22, 12 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Edit warring at Lori Loughlin

I don't know if you're trying to make a WP:POINT, but you must stop edit warring on the article Lori Loughlin. Please take a look at Template:Infobox person to see how to handle presentation of children in the infobox. Your next revert will be reported. GoLatvia (talk) 14:03, 16 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You will notice that I actually backed off after my second revert, you did not, and it is you who did not respect 3RR. You should probably read that guide. It seems that you are the only one trying to make a Point, as I really don't care; I was just trying to make the article better following what has become standard practice, and moved on. Apparently you can't, but it's all good on my end. GenQuest "Talk to Me" 19:21, 16 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Glad it's all good. I just went by the instructions in the template along with how it's implemented in Wikipedia (as I showed examples in this edit summary). Sorry if I appeared to act as if I own the article. 22:45, 16 March 2019 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by GoLatvia (talkcontribs)

March GOCE newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors March 2019 Newsletter

Hello and welcome to the March newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since December 2018. All being well, we're planning to issue these quarterly in 2019, balancing the need to communicate widely with the avoidance of filling up talk pages. Don't forget you can unsubscribe at any time; see below.

January Drive: Thanks to everyone for the splendid work in January's Backlog Elimination Drive. We removed copyedit tags from all of the articles tagged in our original target months of June, July and August 2018, and by 24 January we ran out of articles. After adding September, we finished the month with 8 target articles remaining and 842 left in the backlog. GOCE copyeditors also completed 48 requests for copyedit in January. Of the 31 people who signed up for this drive, 24 copyedited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Blitz: Thanks to everyone who participated in the February Blitz. Of the 15 people who signed up, 13 copyedited at least one article. Participants claimed 32 copyedits, including 15 requests. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Progress report: As of 23:39, 18 March 2019 (UTC), GOCE copyeditors have completed 108 requests since 1 January and the backlog stands at 851 articles.

March Drive: The month-long March drive is now underway; the target months are October and November 2018. Awards will be given to everyone who copyedits at least one article from the backlog. Sign up here!

Election reminder: It may only be March but don't forget our mid-year Election of Coordinators opens for nominations on 1 June. Coordinators normally serve a six-month term and are elected on an approval basis. Self-nominations are welcome. If you've thought of helping out at the Guild, or know of another editor who would make a good coordinator, please consider standing for election or nominating them here.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Miniapolis, Baffle gab1978, Jonesey95, Reidgreg and Tdslk.

Mergers

Thanks for carrying these out – I keep track of new requests and tag them, but I never know whether I should act on them or leave it to the proposer or interested parties.

One thing though: I think you've slipped up when merging G. M. C. Balayogi Athletic Stadium... you've left the article without a talk page, because the talk page now also redirects to the main article. Richard3120 (talk) 15:15, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome @Richard3120: Acting quickly on the low-hanging fruit is a direct way to reduce the backlog, so I go for it always in that situation. Only occasionally am reverted, but at least that, too, is an answer regarding if the merge should proceed. I knock out the rest when I can, but try to encourage the proposers and debate attendees to do the tougher ones, but you know how that goes. I stay away from most of the ones in which I have participated in the discussions, however.
I realize the problem with that article. Somehow, when doing the move without redirect, the drop-down menu changed to "Talk" from "Article". (Fat fingers on my part I suspect.) I didn't catch it til after I had created the new article. So now I'll have to transclude it or fix some other way. I'll figure something out. Thanks for the input, and the help on merging, by the way. Regards, GenQuest "Talk to Me" 12:53, 29 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
