I suggest we add the following info about pollution either in the introduction, or in 7.1

Pollution is the largest cause of of death in developing countries. [1]Exposures to polluted soil, water and air (both indoor and outdoor) killed 9 million people in 2012. 8.4 million of them in low- and middle-income countries. Worldwide, pollution kills one in seven people. [2]

Please either edit, remove, or cite the last sentence of the History section, i.e. "but at that time the pollution was comparatively small and could be handled by nature." The language appears to be casual and simply an author's opinion. Microscone (talk) 18:30, 26 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format. However, you do bring up a valid point, so I have added a {{fact}} tag to the end of that statement. —KuyaBriBriTalk 19:25, 26 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

In the section Cost of Pollution:

In 2005 pollution abatement capital expenditures and operating costs in the US amounted to nearly $27 million [1].

Change $27 million to $27 billion to be consistent with the reference. SkyMind (talk) 08:18, 10 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Done, thanks for spotting that. Gulumeemee (talk) 09:33, 10 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

AIR POLLUTION

Introduction smoke billowing from the smoke stacks Air pollution is a mixture of natural and man-made substances in the air we breathe. It is typically separated into two categories: outdoor air pollution and indoor air pollution.

Outdoor air pollution involves exposures that take place outside of the built environment. Examples include:

Fine particles produced by the burning of fossil fuels (i.e. the coal and petroleum used in energy production) Smoke from factories and industries Noxious gases (sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, chemical vapors, etc.) Ground-level ozone (a reactive form of oxygen and a primary component of urban smog) Tobacco Smoke Indoor air pollution involves exposures to particulates, carbon oxides, and other pollutants carried by indoor air or dust. Examples include:

Gases (carbon monoxide, radon,CFCs, etc.) Household products and chemicals Building materials (asbestos, formaldehyde, lead, etc.) Outdoor indoor allergens (cockroach and mouse dropping, mosquitoes etc.) Tobacco smoke Mold and pollen In some instances, outdoor air pollution can make its way indoors by way of open windows, doors, ventilation, etc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shabnam sk (talkcontribs) 05:22, 13 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please change cause to causes in the first line Sabab Safwan Chowdhury (talk) 13:59, 28 November 2018 (UTC) Pollution is the introduction of contaminants into the natural environment that causes adverse change[reply]

Not done. The subject of the verb "cause" is "contaminants", not" introduction ". You could probably make a case either way, but there's no need to change. –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 14:11, 28 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Pollution as Trespass

Has the concept of pollution as a form of trespass been developed? Conceiving trespass as unwelcome encroachment onto another's property, it seems clear that most forms of pollution are acts of trespass. Because trespass is objectionable, and pollution is a form of trespass, pollution is objectionable. Thanks! --Lbeaumont (talk) 19:35, 3 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

well, I guess that would depend greatly on where in the world you are. Not only is trespass defined in different ways in different legislations, but pollution, or the lack of it, are also differently enshrined in law. In England and Wales, for example there is a common law right to have water in any stream or river passing through your curtilage in its natural quality and quantity. In theory thefore pollution is actionable without any reference to trespass.  Velella  Velella Talk   19:48, 3 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I recently obtained two relevant and reliable references on this. See: https://law.lclark.edu/live/files/13154-rhymesfinal-for-websitepdf and http://columbiaclimatelaw.com/files/2019/06/Adler-2019-06-US-Climate-Change-Litigation-in-Age-of-Trump-Year-2-Report.pdf I hope this is helpful.
