Welcome—ask questions about how to use or edit Wikipedia! (Am I in the right place?)

account problem (how to make that more concise?!)

    Hello, Wikipedia folks,

    I am a many-times-a-day Wikipedia user, and rarely a (very) small-time donor...

Sometime – I'm not sure, but probably within the past two years – I was blocked, only because my IP was in some range related to someone else who was blocked. As I recall, I was told (there was some conversation about this; ah yes, I remember now, I appealed, and the appeal was denied) that the block would be lifted after 6 months.

Presumably you will see that at this moment I am logged in as "kenthuhuong again", the creating of which account had something to do with that block – I don't remember the details of how that came about. Also, I have not used that account (or any other account!) since that time, long ago, however long it was. (Now there happens to be an error in an article, an error I would like to react to, perhaps edit.)

Oh, yes – when I was blocked, it was with the username "kenthuhuong".

At this time, I cannot log in with “kenthuhuong” – but the result is ambiguous, since it only says “Incorrect username or password entered. Please try again.” However, presumably the problem is with the username, since using “Forgot your password?” (Reset password) does not result in email getting sent to my email address (which I had typed, but just deleted! reading again the instructions “Do not provide...  :-)

On the other hand, if I try to create a new account with the old username “kenthuhuong” the system responds

The username “Kenthuhuong” is too similar to the following username: KenThuHuong. Please choose another username.

In other words, at some level, in some way, the original account or some trace of it still exists...

I have been reading quite a number of pages about usernames... including “Start fresh”... but at this moment, I am unable to find anything about renaming an account – “kenthuhuong again” to “kenthuhuong” – which I assume I would be unable to do anyway, given the message I report just above.

This seems to be the classic “you can’t get there from here”?

All I want to do is to end up with one and only one account, with username “kenthuhuong”! Is that possible? how?

‘nuff already – hope you can help me!...?

No, one more thing, please? If the problem as stated above can be solved – or even if I just end up with "kenthuhuong again" – I might then want to rename whatever account I do end up with. How can that be done?

    Thanks, and best,

    – Ken (aka kenthuhuong) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kenthuhuong again (talkcontribs) 01:49, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Kenthuhuong again: Capitalization matters in usernames, except for the first character which is automatically capitalized. There is indeed no User:Kenthuhuong but there is a User:KenThuHuong. Their edits are at Special:Contributions/KenThuHuong. Is it you, can you get that account working, and are you OK with the capitals in that username? If the anwers are yes, yes, no then log in as KenThuHuong and see Wikipedia:Changing username. You cannot get kenthuhuong or any other name with lowercase first leter. PrimeHunter (talk) 04:51, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@PrimeHunter:OK, thanks, PrimeHunter / Jens Kruse Andersen! Yes, "KenThuHuong" works just fine now... but finally, is there any way to get rid of "kenthuhuong again"? Yes, officially speaking here, I would like to do that, like that to be done!--KenThuHuong (talk) 06:59, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@KenThuHuong: Accounts cannot be deleted. They can be renamed but you can just stop using the account. PrimeHunter (talk) 07:55, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@PrimeHunter:OK, Jens, thanks again. And yes, I'll just stop using "kenthuhuong again"... wanted to rename it, but I see that I myself can't do that? ...never mind! Oops... only now I recall that wanting to do that rename, I'm logged in as that!  :-( ...no more!  :-)

    Vandalism help request from Hassanbeem

I have noticed some vandalism at [[Deutsche Internationale Schule Pretoria]]. That is, two users, "Firebobby" and "Emerson Crose," both of whom only edit that particular page, are adding inflammatory and negative information, without relevant citations about the school. I edited the "Racism & Controversy" section to have less hearsay and be more objective on 3 August 2021, but "Firebobby" subsequently deleted my changes and added more inflammatory content.

I believe both of the aforementioned editors are not sticking to the principles and ethos of Wikipedia, but are using the platform to try to harm the school's reputation (for whatever reason known possibly only to them and the school.) I have no personal connection to the school, but bullying, misinformation and "fake news" irritate me.

Would an editor please assist me in looking at it and fixing it if necessary? Thank you, Hassanbeem (talk) 07:29, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I've no view about "inflammatory", or the editors' motivation, or the truth of the allegations. But I've deleted several unreferenced paragraphs. Maproom (talk) 09:23, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How can I move a page back to its previous state?

Someone has moved a page and renamed it, how can I undo this and return it to its previous state.

I tried simply undoing it through file history but received this warning "The edit appears to have already been undone. You may have attempted to undo a page move, protection action or import action; these cannot be undone this way. Any autoconfirmed user can move the page back to its previous location, and any administrator can modify or remove protection."

    Can someone help with this?

    I also can't see a Move button to move it myself again Am.sloan (talk) 11:29, 9 November 2021 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Am.sloan (talkcontribs) 11:29, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

As your account is not autoconfirmed, you can't move an article. In any case you ought not to revert a move unless it was clearly in error, as that could be regarded as move-warring. You can use Template:Requested move on the article's talk page to explain the move you wish to make. --David Biddulph (talk) 11:37, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Choice of language doesn't work

    Hello!

I chose my preferred language as English, but any and every time I access the Wikipedia, perhaps because my location is Brazil, probably because of my IP number, it always shows me in Portuguese. How can I Gert it to English as a prime choice?

    Thank you VERY MUCH!

Ecelso Zanato — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ecelso Zanato (talkcontribs) 12:17, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Zanato. English Wikipedia (which has different content, not merely a different language, to pt-wiki) can be accessed at en.wikipedia.org - however, google translate and similar extensions may attempt to change the english text to portugese. Those will need to be handled by you on your browser as we can't control them Nosebagbear (talk) 12:30, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Notability based on an essay

Is there a history of consensus on whether it's appropriate to keep or delete an article that pass WP:NMEDIA, but does not pass WP:N? As far as I can tell it's the only SNG listed as an essay, and generally I don't place much weight on essays. TipsyElephant (talk) 14:17, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, TipsyElephant. The nutshell of that essay says "There is significant coverage in reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject" and that is pretty close to the WP:GNG. Can you clarify the problem that you see? Cullen328 Let's discuss it 18:50, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Cullen328: I'm not sure if it's considered canvassing, but I opened an AfD for an article and I don't think there are sources out there that demonstrate WP:GNG, however, the primary argument to keep is WP:NTV/WP:RPRGM. I'm genuinely curious whether an argument to keep based solely on the SNG is valid, and if it is I'd be fine with speedy closing it. I know you could just check my edit history or AfD stats so maybe I've already overstepped, but is it okay to direct you to the AfD? TipsyElephant (talk) 21:02, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Cullen328: so obviously the consensus was keep, but is there a history of consensus concerning notability based on the essay? Invoking WP:RPRGM doesn't appear to always guarantee a keep such as in the case of this AfD that I participated in, but perhaps the SNG was not applicable in that circumstance? TipsyElephant (talk) 19:38, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
TipsyElephant, I still do not see any significant divergence between the essay and the General notability guideline, so I do not perceive a problem here. If you can point to a case where an article clearly failed GNG, but was kept because of this essay, then that would be a concern. As for placing weight on essays, it depends on which one. Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle is neither a policy or a guideline but it enjoys very wide support. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 22:08, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I’ll note that while this editor says here “generally I don't place much weight on essays,” in their failed AfD Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Tech Guy they in fact cited the essay WP:INHERIT as justification for the AfD. It’s as if they just wanted the article deleted by grabbing at any written WP:SOMETHING to support their desire even if situational ethics is obvious. The nom needs to understand that, like written rules in real life, most if not all rules are subject to wide interpretations, exceptions and adherences usually based on common sense. It’s time to move on. Oakshade (talk) 21:16, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Making a Wikipedia page for a living person

I want to make a Wikipedia page for a person who is still alive, he is a singer, songwriter, and once was an artist from Nashville for the past 60 years, very well known by the old timers but they are slowly dieing off and he will be gone soon too. The world should know his story. And all the songs he's written and people he's worked with Lucybug Dil (talk) 19:35, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the thing you need most is sources. They don't have to be online, they just have to exist.WP:YFA is a good resource for getting started. Beeblebrox (talk) 20:19, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    high school football national championship

When it reads "not listed in older sources" on the teams in the late 60s to the late 70s,do you have those lists? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:2D80:978A:0:84A4:FCA6:6867:8BF1 (talk) 19:48, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You haven't told us what article this is about, and you haven't signed your post, so it's difficult for us to figure out what you're asking about. But my guess is that "older sources" refers to the older of the sources cited in the relevant article. Maproom (talk) 21:29, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How to deal with incomplete AfD as an uninvolved user

I have observed a page Anil Deshmukh that was PROD'd, but the PROD was removed in favor of an AfD. Since, the page was tagged with an AfD nomination; however, the user who tagged the page with the AfD nomination did not create an entry at AfD. There is currently an entry made by a user contesting the deletion, but the page at AfD did not exist until then. Furthermore, the page isn't listed on AfD under a specific date, which makes it very hard to find the discussion other than from the page. Should the AfD be a procedural keep for being incomplete? Should the AfD be (re)listed on AfD to allow for discussion? Should the AfD tag be removed from the page? I saw some editors with adding and removing the tag and I didn't want to interact there without knowing the proper procedure. snood1205(Say Hi! (talk)) 20:33, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If I see a messed-up AfD like that, sometimes what I'll do is file a pro forma nomination myself (i.e. just nominate it with Twinkle and override the existing AfD notice). jp×g 22:42, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    Makes sense, thanks! I'll do that. snood1205(Say Hi! (talk)) 22:51, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How can I know how many page views species articles on English Wikipedia recieve per month?

Hi all I'm working on a partnership with a large natural history organisation and I would like provide them with some metrics to give them an idea of the scale of readership of Wikipedia. If anyone is able to help me by giving me a metric of how many page views English Wikipedia articles on species receive per month I would really really appreciate it. I've tried using categories to get page views but I can't work out how to only get species articles, assume that there are a few infoboxes which could be used to identify species articles.

    Many thanks

    . John Cummings (talk) 20:39, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@John Cummings: our sister site, Wikidata, is a structured database of objects. If an object points to both a Wikipedia article and a Wikispecies article, then it's probably what you want. You can construct a Wikidata query that will return a list of all these objects and the Wikipedia article for each of them. If you are a trusting soul you might get a pretty good list with a query for all objects that have Wikipedia articles and also have the "taxon" attribute. My guess it that your client may be interested in other language Wikipedias, Wikispecies, and maybe even in Wikidata itself in addition to the English Wikipedia. It will be easier to generalize your results by creating new queries if you start from Wikidata. -Arch dude (talk) 21:02, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Arch dude thanks very much for your reply, I know roughly how to make a query to find all species articles but it times out and I've no idea how to transfer that into getting a pageviews stats for those pages. For clarity I'm not being paid by them, I work for Wikimedia Sverige. John Cummings (talk) 21:06, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@John Cummings: Sorry, no. I thought from your question that you already had a way to get the page views given a list of pages. I have no idea how to do this. If I were to start from scratch on my own I would build a Python program to run on my computer to make one HTML request per page on the list. There is almost certainly a better way to do this using a script or 'bot running on the server. Perhaps ask at VPT? -Arch dude (talk) 21:18, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much Arch dude I've asked there, my assumption is there's some way of getting a list of pages that use Template:Taxobox Template:Speciesbox etc (not sure how to get a list of those boxes) and then somehow make that into a pagepile and then remember which tools can run pageview queries from that. I think that there is simply no way to do this with categories, its just too messy. My assumption is it will be at least a few % of all Wikipedia traffic so will be 100 of millions of views per month. John Cummings (talk) 21:29, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@John Cummings: How big of a list are we talking about? I have a couple ways for determining pageview counts for large numbers of articles, but obviously 100 is going to be different from 100,000. I would be willing to assist in writing some software to measure this if it's the latter. jp×g 22:43, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much for the offer JPxG, I need to work on identifying the articles first, my assumption is 100,000s, but probably not 1 million. Thanks again John Cummings (talk) 18:42, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Article talk page query

I'm going to setup archiving at Talk:Scorpions (band). There're many "Fair use rationale for Image" sections, can these sections be deleted first, or do they also need to be archived. The reason I'm asking, I've also been removing "External links modified" sections as they come up, per this RfC. - FlightTime (open channel) 01:11, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wow that certainly is a lot of them. I think removing them is probably fine, they are all quite old, and both the bot that left them and it's operator were banned a long time ago. Beeblebrox (talk) 01:18, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Beeblebrox: Thanx, I just noticed that. I was hoping another RfC wasn't an answer - FlightTime (open channel) 01:22, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    I think this is a perfect application for WP:IAR. Beeblebrox (talk) 03:26, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
A bit late here - but worth noting that nothing has to be archived. You can remove anything from a talk page, however, thing that are useful to have links to (such as regular suggestions and discussions) should be retained. Everything is already archived by the talk history, so there is no deletion. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 14:41, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    BlackTea (talk) 09:30, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello BlackTea! If you are in fact Geoff Garrett, I would recommend reading Wikipedia's guidelines (and recommendations against) autobiographies and An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing before editing that article again. Wikipedia is an independently-edited, volunteer-run encyclopedia, not a who's who, directory, or many other things. Just speaking for myself, if I came to an encylopedia to look up a notable scientist, I wouldn't be particularly interested in the subject's family life – they may be important to the subject, but unless the family were notable for some other reason, these details don't belong in an encyclopedia. ClaudineChionh (talkcontribs) 09:44, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@BlackTea: Building on the discussion we had on your talk page in February, since you have a conflict of interest, you must declare it on your user page. You should no longer edit the article about you. Instead, you may post suggestions on the article's talk page Talk:Geoff Garrett with the {{request edit}} template, or use the Wikipedia:Edit Request Wizard. Thanks! Userspace draft

Hello there! Is writing a userspace draft in user page (not in user subpage) condidered NOTWEBHOST violation? Vitaium (talk) 10:35, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The guidance about what you can put on your user page is at WP:UPYES. That doesn't include article drafts, which should use the WP:AfC process or go in your sandbox. Note that some people think that their User pages and sandboxes will be indexed by search engines but that isn't the case. So using WP as a webhost is pretty pointless. How do you tell if someone is a new user?

    Or and admin or ....

I am supposed to not bite them, but who are they? Wakelamp d[@-@]b (talk) 10:41, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Wakelamp one easy way is to navigate to your special preferences area and on the "gadgets" tab, activate the tickbox for "Navigation popups" under "Browsing". This does a lot of useful things when you hover over a link. On talk pages, for example, it immediately gives information about a User when you hover over their signature. So I can tell that you have made 961 edits since 31 August 2009, for example, which hardly makes you a newbie. And none of us should be biting anyone! Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:59, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
True. I am not a newbie :-) I don't bite anyone - and I normally say it's not appropriate if I see it, Regardless of whether they are a newbie or not, but It would be nice to know. I avoid any topic with conflict because it is often full of angry people, mentioning how many edits they have done.
    Wikipedia:Civility is dead :-)
I assume there is no way of telling who is an admin? Wakelamp d[@-@]b (talk) 12:44, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    There's a script for that. ClaudineChionh (talkcontribs) 12:50, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The same navigation popup does that: see for example the @Beeblebrox link / signature just below the November 10 section header. You also get indication of gender if people have set that in their preferences. Mike Turnbull (talk) 12:54, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
"User rights" is one of the options in the menu at the foot of the contributions page, and you can see there whether a user is an admin. --David Biddulph (talk) 17:05, 10 November 2021 (UTC):[reply]

@Wakelamp: Hi there! Another way to tell if a user is new is to look at their contributions. Many admins include their admin status on their user page. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 16:42, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This is correct, as the term "Pre-Columbian" refers to the era before the arrival of Christopher Columbus and other Europeans. The name "Columbus" is spelled with a "u" in English, even though the country is spelled with an "o". -- John of Reading (talk) 15:08, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Complaint about "Opinion polling for the next Ukrainian parliamentary election" page

Dear Wikipedia representatives, I think it would be appropriate to block the user Ofihet for provocation. Articles about opinion polling in Ukraine have always contained the following order of parties: from the most popular to the least popular. This order is a certain means of influence, but such objectivity. While the above user changes the order only in favor of pro-Russian parties. This is a constant provocation and it demotivates many editors, including me, to be on this site. References and WP:NACTOR

how much does an article need reference to be at least a decent article? And also how does the WP:NACTOR works? Like does the actor have to be in a be project or in a big role? And is it really important? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mac O'Donnell (talkcontribs) 18:29, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Verifiability tells you why it's important to add sources to articles and how you can identify reliable sources. NACTOR seems pretty clear on what counts:

Has had significant roles in multiple notable films, television shows, stage performances, or other productions; or Has made unique, prolific or innovative contributions to a field of entertainment.

    Ukraine polls

    Dear Wikipedia admin,

Feeling confused, as several Ukraine polls editors seem to have a strong bias.

Just to inform that opinion polls of Ukraine edited by block baby and Mr Gimein seem to be biased against a party that gathered second best result in previous elections (it regularly gets moved to third place with no justified reason apart from the possible preferences of the editor).

I see Wikipedia as unbiased source of information and therefore encourage you to explain these principles to block baby and Gimein in the hope that they stop acting biased. My explanations in my edits seem to mean nothing to them, so I kindly ask to keep an eye on their edits in the coming weeks to filter out biased information and/or block as I have no wish to argue with people who are unwilling to listen and read my comments.

You can see for yourself that my arguments are neutral and based on facts and reality regardless of preferences as I treasure neutrality of Wikipedia above all.

    Thank you very much!

Best wishes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ofihet (talkcontribs) 18:51, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I was just doing some minor editing: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Pentagon_UFO_videos&type=revision&diff=1054554720&oldid=1054543497

I was using the Visual Editor, which I normally avoid. Notice that the link "Congress" has been changed to "Congress", ie, now points to a different page. The problem is that I didn't make that change! I have no knowledge of, and no interest in, US Congress.

    1) Is this the result of a clash with another editor? I can see no evidence of that.

    2) I'm inclined to change the link back to the old link. Is that a good idea? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ghastlyman (talkcontribs) 19:54, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I also have no idea how that might have happened, but I don't see anything wrong with changing it back. (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this: ~~~~.) Rummskartoffel 20:46, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

VisualEditor has a feature to pick a new link target from a list of similar page names. It would take a total of three accidental clicks to make the change. My iPhone has done more in my pocket. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:01, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Donations and deletions

So I have tried to edit my father’s page but your monitors/editors keep deleting it and my stepmother gets to expand lies about my dad’s life since he died last January. If your site was operating fairly to everyone I would make a donation but why would I give money to an unfair site? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1000:B12D:5382:9164:2C10:8709:6613 (talk) 22:37, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry that your family is experiencing this conflict, but neither you nor your stepmother ought to be playing this conflict out on Wikipedia. No family member should be editing your father's Wikipedia article directly due to conflict of interest, and any content that cannot be verified will be removed. ClaudineChionh (talkcontribs) 22:43, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Hello, if an edit you have made is undone (reverted) the best place to raise a discussion is at the talk page of the article concerned. Volunteers here at the help desk do not typically become involved in content disuputes and without a link (the IP used to post here has only this thread in its edit history) cannot help much in any event. Please see WP:BRD for how to resolve disputes. Donations have no effect on what editors here at Wikipedia publish (or not) they go to the Wikimedia foundation which keeps the whole project running. If you do not want to donate that is absolutely fine, there is no requirement to do so. As information, if adding content to a biographical article, there must be available, published, reliable sources in support thereof. Please also read our page about editing where you have a connection to the subject at WP:COI and make any necessary declarations. You can then use Template:Request edit to suggest changes to the article. (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this: ~~~~. Or, you can use the [ reply ] button, which automatically signs posts.) Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 22:56, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Translation

Hello guys. I just translated an article from spanish to english following Wikipedia conventions and adding references, but haven't been able to publish it. I have already edited more that 10 articles in Wikipedia in Spanish. What should I do in order to be able to publish it? Would appreciate your help a lot. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dvd2021 (talkcontribs) 23:58, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Because your account on this project is not yet autoconfirmed you cannot create pages in article space. You can, however, mark it as a userspace draft and submit it to articles for creation. Beeblebrox (talk) 00:13, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dvd2021 welcome to Tea House! In order to create Articles, you will either need WP:AUTOCONFIRM status which is automatically granted once you've finished making 10 edits, you can request an article creation through Wikipedia:Articles for creation. While your experience and multilingual skills will likely be helpful, they do not confer special/automatic rights here in English Wikipedia. Additionally, some of the rules around Wikipedia:Notability and Wikipedia:Five pillars may differ, so please give them a read. If you have any questions you can ask here again or on my talk page. Happy editing! ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 00:14, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've moved your draft to Draft:Carolina Sanín. The draft has many references, but a large percentage of these are by Sanín herself. This looks suspect. I haven't read the draft, but perhaps some of the references (?) by Sanín aren't meant as references and are instead meant as explanatory notes. Explanatory notes are much better separated from actual references; you can use the "group" attribute for this. (Compare <ref> and <ref group="n">; and the corresponding <references /> and <references group="n" />.) -- Hoary (talk) 00:22, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Tag for "more opinions needed"?

I found a paragraph which presents only a single opinion on a somewhat controversial subject (in chess#Growth). Is there a tag to say, "This needs more sources to represent the diversity of opinions on this subject"? I found Template:One source, but that is not quite what I am looking for, because that only mentions the number of sources, not the number of opinions. (There is nothing wrong with only one source if the facts are not disputed). Adpete (talk) 01:03, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind, I think I found what I am looking for. I was looking under verifiability templates, but there is also a whole set of NPOV templates. Adpete (talk) 01:15, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    @Adpete In general I am reminded of this guideline WP:WEIGHT and the very specific example tag Template:Globalize. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 01:17, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I thought Template:POV section would be perfect until I saw the guideline "Do not use this template unless there is an ongoing dispute.". So I am unsure what to use after all. Adpete (talk) 01:20, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm only commenting so as to follow this interesting topic. I thought personal "opinions" were not allowed as content at WP? Maineartists (talk) 01:35, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It is concerning the question of whether there has been "rating inflation" in chess; of whether a 2700 rating means the same strength in 2021 as it did in (say) 1980. I would say that expert opinions (often informed by facts) are allowable. Anyway, I have discovered that you can change the lead sentence in Template:One source, and I think that does what I want, so I have added it to chess#Growth. Wikipedia page is not coming to the main page

Hello! I have created a page in wikipedia for a singer named Pooja Prem..It has been 2 months and still it is in draft... how can I get it to the main page? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Pooja_Prem — Preceding unsigned comment added by Premkumar.kochi (talkcontribs) 12:51, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Premkumar.kochi: We are not interested in a rerun of the Seigenthaler incident. Every claim about a living or recently-departed person that could potentially be challenged for any reason what-so-ever MUST be cited to a strong, in-depth source the subject or surrogates didn't write that corroborates it or (if no such sources can be found) removed wholesale. This is a hard requirement when writing about living or recently-departed people on Wikipedia and is NOT negotiable. Your sources are not properly cited. —A little blue Bori v^_^v Jéské Couriano 12:57, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Remove a new line on top of Template:Infobox rocket

When I enable Wikidata on the template, suddenly there is a new line on top. I tried to remove Wikidata properties and honestly I have no idea why the new line is still there. Does anyone have any clue? CactiStaccingCrane (talk) 04:15, 12 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@CactiStaccingCrane: What do you mean by enable Wikidata? Are you describing the template page or some page using the template? PrimeHunter (talk) 04:57, 12 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@PrimeHunter I embedded Module:WikidataIB to the template, which supposed to be able to receive both manual and Wikidata input. It doesn't make a new line on top until I move the new template to Template:Infobox rocket. CactiStaccingCrane (talk) 05:00, 12 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, I think that it is fixed now. Thanks for assisting my troubleshooting. CactiStaccingCrane (talk) 05:09, 12 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How do I cite Google Earth?

    Italic titles

How does one make an article's title italic? Specifically, I believe Bazar de la Charité should be italicized. --107.15.157.44 (talk) 19:08, 12 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You can put the template {{Italic title}} somewhere in the article - preferably at the top. Make sure the article meets the Article titles policy. --ColinFine (talk) 19:16, 12 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    Thanks; (that falls under MOS:FOREIGNITALIC). 107.15.157.44 (talk) 19:25, 12 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
[Edit Conflict] Well, you could find out by looking at the title coding of the article on the TV miniseries Le Bazar de la Charité about the fire at that annual event. However, it may have been a deliberate decision not to italicise the title of the event's article, in contrast to the miniseries' title as is standard.
Have you studied WP:MoS#Italics and its relevant links, and weighed its subsections Titles and Foreign words against each other? To me, the latter's "However, proper names (such as place names) in other languages are not usually italicized . . ." suggests the title should not be italicised as you propose. If you still think it should, go ahead with step one of WP:BRD. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.205.225.31 (talk) 19:29, 12 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Done (before reading this post) -- also, since it was already italicized in the body of the article -- feel free to undo, if desired. 107.15.157.44 (talk) 19:34, 12 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
