What is the song "One" by Metallica about?

I can't figure out the lyrics. Is it about a guy who is suicidal? That's the best I can figure out. Please don't yell at me for not knowing. MalwareSmarts 01:37, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is an article about it, One (Metallica song), while it doesn't say exactly what the song is about, it does talk about the music video (which is very creepy). In answer to your second question, the Naga Jolokia pepper holds the Guinness world record for the hottest pepper - scoring 1,001,304 on the Scoville scale. 86.21.74.40 21:11, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The 'Peruvian Death Pepper' has been ascribed to the Rocoto post Garfield inclusion. From DeWitt's "The Chile Pepper Encyclopedia":
The rocotos are renowned for their pungency, and there is a Peruvian expression about them, "llevanta muertos", meaning they are hot enough to raise the dead. According to chile expert Dr. Jean Andrews, in the town of Huanta, Peru, rocotos are described as "gringo huanuchi", "will kill a gringo" They are highly aromatic and flavorful in addition to their heat. The ripe pods are used fresh because their thick flesh makes them difficult to dry. They are often stuffed with cheese or sausage then baked."
Hope that helps. 86.21.74.40 21:27, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kane character

I remember there was a movie about a boy named Kane and he was fond of medieval stuff and he had to take of this kid, who couldn't walk and died of choking on his school lunch, and whenever they are together, everybody thinks they are like a knight sitting on the horse. I think this is The Mighty. The Wikipedia article is just a stub, but the movie poster shows the two kids together, and they do look like a bit like a knight on a horse. The movie's IMDB entry gives more information. One of the boys has the surname Kane. --Richardrj talk email 11:17, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I concur, though I haven't seen the movie, I have read the book, Freak the Mighty and that is how I remember it, although I am not sure about him choking on a sandwich, not sure they said how he died in the book, with 'Killer Kane' being very fond of the round table tales. A hit song with sax solo?

Hi,I'm searching for a song from the 80s or perhaps even from early 90s. It is sung by a male, with different sax riffs are the most recognizable parts of the song.

they are like:

daadadadaa daaaa daadadadaa daadaa daadadadaa daaaa daadadadaa daadaa daadaa daadaa

d and a are not musical notes, but its like humming. This song still widely being played on shopping malls etc. The song is slightly fast, perhaps has bongos too and the saxs repeat after the singer finishes a stanza. And the song is not careless whisper by wham. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.201.75.148 (talk) 16:43, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Elusive Garys Mod 10

Steam is the only place you can buy Garry's Mod 10 -- no-one else will have it. It's available on its own here, for US$10 through Steam. You might have been confused because it's not called Garry's Mod 10, just Garry's Mod, but that is the 10th version.

Grendel's Father

In Beowulf, who is Grendel's father? Hrothgar said something along the lines of "he is of no threat to men" and later it seemed to imply that Hrothgar was Grendel's father. Is he? Who/what is?

The lack of knowledge of Grendel's father adds to the horror. In Anglo Saxon and Germanic culture ancestory and lineage was extremely important to people. For example characters in literature are constantly described in the context of their family tree, as in "Beowulf son of Ecgthow". The fact that Grendel lacks that context makes him seem even more alien, and thus increases his terror.

Searching the name of a singer

Hi: I am looking for the name of a black singer who recorded an album in the late 70's or early '80s. He sang "A song for you" written by Leon Russel. In the following page there is information about this song:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Song_for_You

There are several names mentioned in this article of artists that interpreted this song but none of them is the one I am looking for. In the cassete photo cover I had once in my hands (the one I am looking for) you can see a man (presumably the singer) in a super elegant white suit, a fancy huge old car behind him as well as a woman in a cocktail dress, all of the photo mostly in yellow, white and black color. In this album there is another song ("Woman" must be the name of it). The soul rhythm and the voice of this singer are amazing. I hope someone knows his name and/or the album's so I can get it again. Thanks. José Jones.

The All Music Guide is full of errors and omissions. My own entry has me conflated with another musician of the same name. It's not even close to the quality of imdb. The Blood Crystal (The Admiral & The Princess) animated short

I'm looking for a specific animated short/feature to add to my collection that I vividly remember---but can't seem to find. It goes a little something like this: it starts out with a grandmother telling her grandson a story to help pass the time while a creey fog hangs over their beach home. The story (in the story) is about an admiral who captains a ship called "The Blue Heron", and he is in love with the princess of the kingdom, and vice-versa. Now the king, the princess, and her royal nanny all possess magic powers which they use to rule fairly and gently. The vizier, however, has other ideas. He possesses something called the Blood Crystal, which he uses to make the admiral try to kill the king during his birthday celebration. When that fails, he turns the admiral into a blue heron, to keep him silent and out of the way.

After the king leaves on an errand of mercy---or something like it---the vizier uses his Blood Crystal to take over the kingdom and imprison the princess and her nanny. He also ensures the king will never return by imprisoning him in an eternal fog, using the Blood Crystal. And every time he uses it, his power makes his bones glow red for all to see, spreading throughout him. Unbeknownst to the evil vizier, the nanny has used her magic to transform the princess into a heron-like bird (don't remember the exact name of it) to help her escape. The princess and the admiral fly to where the king is trapped, and together guide him back. During the big fight scene---with lots of magic being used, of course---the admiral seizes the blood crystal from the vizier and shatters it, which means the end of the vizier.

Unfortunately the blood crystal was the only thing which could change the admiral back into a human; now that it's gone, he's a blue heron forever. Hearing this news, the princess makes one last request of her nanny, "You gave me wings once---I have need of them again." She chooses to become a bird and remain by her admiral's side. The grandmother finishes the story by speaking of how 'he now rules the sky as he once ruled the sea'. Just then, the grandfather arrives home, tells of how he was hopelessly lost, and how two birds guided him back home. The grandson sees them fly past the window and he recognizes them---"The admiral and the princess!!!" And the story ends with the family reunited and watching the birds as they gently fly away.

Any information anyone can come up with will be sincerely appreciated.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 150.216.105.152 (talkcontribs)

Deliberately *bad* singing and/or *bad* music

We once encountered a casette (tape) that had various songs which sounded almost normal to anyone with no ear for tone tune etc, but were actually a big joke/novelty because the singers would go out of tune, the music would go out of time or tune, and I found this absolutely hilarious. It would be fun to invite people over and play it as background music to see if they would notice. Some would, and would be extremely critical about the artists.
We since lost the tape, and ever since I've been trying to find other novelty music like this.
I'm not necessarily talking about parodies of songs, I'm talking about novelty music -- anything where the singers deliberately sing out of tune some or all of the time for the purposes of singing out of tune.
Rfwoolf (talk) 16:42, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

One example that I heard recently was on a community radio show, where at the end of the show they always play this song with this couple that sing something about "Til we meet again" "So long" "Goodbye", almost opera-tically, over-the-top, out of tune. The male singer than prattles something about "...our mortle coil. Funny 'ol chap Shakespeare was".
I've tried to google these lyrics but can't find any such song. Rfwoolf (talk) 16:44, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It reminds me of Pete and Dud's song at the end of Not Only... But Also. DuncanHill (talk) 17:39, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've looked it up on youtube and a few seconds of the song appear at the end of the clip - thanks!. That's the sort of thing I'm looking for, although I'd say this one is rather obvious. It would be especially nice if I could track down what was on that cassette where it was a lot more subtle. :) Rfwoolf (talk) 17:56, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Here's the Pete Cook and Dudley Moore song on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=po_hBvMxf1k
Rfwoolf, I've tried some Google searches using terms such as "intentionally bad singing subtle tune syncopation cover" etc., with all sorts of variations, but haven't had any luck finding something like what you describe (although I found three versions of Pete & Dudley singing "Goodbye"). Do you remember the names of some of the songs on that cassette? That might make it easier to track down. 152.16.59.190 (talk) 07:57, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much for trying! The cassette wasn't mine, but I do remember the main singer was female, and she would sometimes try to reach a high note and almost croak it, or the music would speed up unnecessarily, and the lyrics were sometimes funny but you had to be listening. I don't have any other information such as names, and to be honest can only remember the one song. I'm also pretty good at searching on google, and last time didn't find anything, probably because the results are all diluted with irrelevant stuff, as music searches usually are. I was hoping that either some wikipedians would know of some examples, or that there was some articles on it Rfwoolf (talk) 09:27, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to ask a few family members who might remember something about it. Rfwoolf (talk) 09:32, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PS3 and HD

So, I'm looking into getting an HDTV primarily for my PS3. It's gotta be a small one though (space and cost restraints), and as such pretty much has to be 720p resolution. So here's my question, and please forgive me if this is like a really obvious stupid question; I know very little in the realm of HD, and don't trust the sales clerks entirely, as they're probably just gonna try to sell it to me. So, and I hope I'm wording this right, I know that PS3 can support up to 1080p, correct? So, does that mean that if I get a 720p resolution HDTV, will all my PS3 games play in 720p resolution, and play with the enhanced picture that entails? Thanks guys! DoomsDay349 02:41, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's basically correct. PS3 games that support at least 720p will display at 720p if that's what your display supports. However, there may be some games that aren't really at 720p. The PS3 should be capable of rendering such games in a 720p output signal, but that's not the same thing as "the enhanced picture that entails". While I don't have PS3-specific examples, this has occurred with a few 360 games (Halo 3 most notably) where the game developer has compromised true 720p support for better framerates or the like. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see similar compromises on the PS3. — Lomn 14:44, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Some games play better in 720p since it isn't as high resolution as 1080. For example, Lair got worse reviews when played in 1080 because the frame rate was more erratic. Also most games only support 720p and are uprezzed to 1080 when played on 1080 screens. So except for limited cases, playing in 720p is the same or better than 1080. --24.249.108.133 (talk) 19:32, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Walt Disney

Hi. I have been known to have a good ear and apparently it's for reasons such as this one. I am listening to a lot of music lately and all of it is pretty much the same when it comes to beats and bass. But Disney, on the other hand is different. How come disney music different? For example, you hear a lot of magical sounds in the music. Plus the bass is more of a live effect as if it was done by a bass chelo.Jwking (talk) 21:03, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

To answer this question, we'd really need to know what the other music you've listening to is. Otherwise, it's hard to say what's different :) Can you give a little more guidance? Skittle (talk) 23:55, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps because Disney's music might be done by a live orchestra with little editing, whereas almost all other music is looping and editing. This is just a guess though. Oh! I also thought about something, I heard something about them trademarking a specific music note or something, I forget where I picked this up. Obviously I doubt they would have a specific music note, but perhaps a series of notes in succession could be strongly copyrighted. I wonder if anyone knows something about that? It also states that a song by Olivia Newton-John was the first song played on WMJX. This is incorrect. The first song played was "Do you believe in magic?" by The Lovin' Spoonful. I know this because I was the first Director of Programming of WMJX and I pushed the button that started that song. I also have a recording of this event.

Hi Jack, from another Jack. You are more than welcome to edit the article to improve it; do you have a published citation that backs up your version of events? Cheers -- JackofOz (talk) 23:05, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Welcome to Wikipedia Jack. Both the statements you're objecting to have no sources - so if you can point at a source that tells a different story then by all means change the article to the correct facts. Is there an official history of the station? Or perhaps contemporary newspaper accounts? Exxolon (talk) 23:07, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

what are the most important similarities and differences between theatre and movies?

please help! quickly! this is not homework! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 166.121.36.232 (talk) 06:28, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, one would hope this is stating the obvious, but one is played to a live audience and the other is pre-recorded. I'll leave it to you to work out which one is which :) --Richardrj talk email 09:18, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm... both are scripted, one is live the other is recorded and edited, in movies the audience's experience is more controlled because the camera can show exactly what you want the audience to see. Movies can be available on different mediums: DVD, cassette, TV, cinema etc whereas theatre can only be seen live at a venue. Rfwoolf (talk) 09:24, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wondering why it was deleted...

Hey all! Awhile back I made a page highly detailed about the lead singer of band Dead Poetic. The singer's name was Brandon Rike, and I am wondering why it is not existing at this moment. Thank You. --Playjex (talk) 22:08, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

it appears that it wasn't actually deleted, but turned into a redirect to the article for the band. Another editor seems to have decide that your article was not needed. If you go to [6] and click where it says "history" in a little tab at the top of the page you will see a list of the edits made to your page. Hope this makes sense and is helpful to you! DuncanHill (talk) 22:12, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks man. Think I should make the page again, and if so how would I do so? I am fairly common to the Wiki controls but I use www.uesp.net. Thank You very much. --Playjex (talk) 22:24, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Television shows

Generally speaking, are TV shows filmed (in "real life") in the same order in which they are eventually broadcast on TV? I will divide that question into 2 sub-categories. (A) Is such the case in serial television ... (for example, broadcast episode # 58 of Friends would have been filmed in real life before they filmed what would eventually become broadcast episode # 59 of Friends) ...? (B) And -- what about TV shows in which the order is essentially irrelevent ... (for example, the Oprah Winfrey episode about post-partum depression being filmed / broadcast before or after the episode about Michael Vick being filmed / broadcast) ...? Thanks. (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 05:38, 21 November 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Err, I'm not 100% clear on what you're asking, but I will tell you that shows such as Oprah and Ellen are generally edited. Of course what you see is generally shown in the order it was filmed. Shows such as Friends however are not typically shot in sequence, especially if they're not filmed in front of an audience - it is much more economical in production to shoot out of sequence, especially if shooting takes place over more than one day. So I do believe live-stage sitcoms may be shot close to order of viewing. Does that answer your quesiton? Rfwoolf (talk) 06:49, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, you misunderstood my question -- which probably was not worded clearly to begin with. I am talking about taping different episodes of the same show ... not taping different scenes/sections of the same episode. So, let's take Season 10 of Friends as an example. What they eventually broadcast on TV would ultimately be called something like Episode 57, Episode 58, Episode 59, Episode 60, etc. (with whatever number system they might use). Generally speaking, is Episode 57 taped (in real life) prior to the taping of Episode 58 ... is Episode 58 taped (in real life) prior to the taping of Episode 59 ... and so on. Maybe a better way to ask the question is this: do we watch on TV the episodes in the same order that they are taped in real life? My guess is that, barring odd circumstances --- yes, they tape them in the same order that they intend to air them. But, I don't know --- so I wanted to check here. Then, consider the same question for a non-serial show like Oprah Winfrey. Would they shoot certain episodes in the same order that they intend to air them on TV? Or, is that type of show different, since one episode is independent and unrelated to any other episode. (That is, if aired Episode # 125 is an interview with Tom Cruise and aired Episode # 126 is a special about the Atkins Diet ... those 2 episodes are non-serial and non-related ... and their order is less relevant as to when they air on TV and when they are taped). So, what is the convention in either industry ... serial shows and non-serial shows? I understand that scenes within an episode may be shot out of chronological order ... but I am asking about taping completely different episodes altogether. Thanks. (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 08:24, 21 November 2007 (UTC))[reply]
One of the major factors that will affect filming sequence is whether any of it is shot on location. Obviously it makes sense to shoot all those sequences together regardless of the final order. The availability of other facilities and certain actors will also be taken into account. Of course the final running order can also be varied. Fans are still debating the running order of The Prisoner. See List of The Prisoner episodes where five different running orders are debated.--Shantavira|feed me 08:59, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Similarly, Firefly episodes were aired out of their intended viewing order, with the pilot Serenity not being shown until the end of the series' run. A show like Friends is probably shown is a similar order to filming, although on location scenes may be shot months before or after. Think outside the box 11:56, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In general, the answer is no. A series is often shot in a different order than it is aired.Thomprod (talk) 17:40, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Most broadcasted TV shows and episodes

One can easily find statistics and data on the TV broadcasts that were the most-watched in history. And Wikipedia has an article on such: List of most-watched television broadcasts. So, it is generally accepted that the final episode of M*A*S*H was the most-watched broadcast in TV history. Are there any statistics / data / Wikipedia articles / websites that have details about which TV shows have been broadcast most? Something along the lines of ... hypothetically ... these: the I Love Lucy episode in which Lucy gives birth to baby Little Ricky is the most broadcast episode in TV history ... or, The Brady Bunch is the most broadcast TV sitcom in history. Is there any source that would collect / publish such type of information? Ultimately -- my questions are: what is the specific / unique TV broadcast that has been the most repeatedly broadcast (... one particular show's particular episode that has been repeated the most throughout history ...) and what is the TV program / TV series that has been the most repeatedly broadcast throughout history? Thanks. (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 05:54, 21 November 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Since many television series are syndicated and later re-broadcast on many different stations and/or cable networks, it would be difficult to keep up with how many actual airings a given episode has had since its original broadcast.Thomprod (talk) 17:43, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

MicroKorg Layers

I was hoping that a Wikipedian synthesiser player would be able to help. I'm having trouble layering multiple voices on my MicroKorg.

I have read the manual.

Could someone please help?

Thanks.MJ Digs (talk) 09:36, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Errr, i believe you use the dial and select the first option ( voice I think ) and then use the 2nd of the smaller knobs to use numerous layers. 86.139.90.55 (talk) 19:22, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Using Guitar Hero III guitar with Rock Band

I have the PS3 version of Guitar Hero III and Rock Band. But I can't get Rock Band to recognize the GH3 guitar. The GH3 guitar is connecting to the system, but it's not active during the difficulty setting screen. Is there some secret to getting it to work? --24.249.108.133 (talk) 16:24, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Its probaly not going to work. Any smart company would make it not register so you HAVE to buy there extra products. Esskater11 16:53, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There's a problem with it due to the guitar not being compliant with the standards, or something along those lines. Full story here [7] - X201 (talk) 17:05, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
