You can lead a horse to Wikipedia, but you can't make him edit constructively

I archive every 100 comments, don't ask me why.

Hilarious...

This hoax SPI report seems to be really hilarious for some reason.

Question

Hey Abce2. Do you know User:Bongwarrior off Wikipedia? Because I'm just wondering, do you know if anything's happended to Bongwarrior? I know that people take Wikibreaks often here and all but he hasn't edited anything since August 23 and it seems odd for Bongwarrior to go this long without editing. I also cannot see any sign of him retiring or having a Wikibreak. I'm only asking because Bongwarrior is my favorite administrator, you were one of the last editors to comment on his talk page, and because I have a bad gut feeling about his absence. I trust that you're not the cause of this, I just thought you might know something. Thanks and get well.--The LegendarySky Attacker 07:54, 6 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No idea. I've been waiting for him to help me review an article, then he said he was going to eat, and that's the last I saw of him.Abce2|TalkSign 18:17, 6 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, yes, I was actually wondering that a few days ago. It's not usually unexpected for people to disappear for a few weeks during the summer - going on vacation, for example. However, it did seem odd that he said he was off to have dinner and disappeared for two weeks... hopefully he'll be back sooner rather than later! ~ mazca talk 20:07, 6 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent editing history at User_talk:69.213.86.67 shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war; read about how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

Hi Abce2, this is just a quick reminder to be more relaxed about IPs whitewashing their own talk pages. Nothing good will come from edit warring with them over such a banality, admins are supposed to read the page history anyway, and it's generally a good idea to give problem editors plenty of rope to hang themselves with. Hans Adler 18:55, 6 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I can agree with what Hans Adler said here. Reverting anything more than three times can cause ... complications. Why run the risk when you can just report the 3RR violation and have an admin deal with it? — Kralizec! (talk) 19:37, 6 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about that, it's just I've got a habit, (which I am trying to break), of not letting the vandal or troll have last laughs. I know that's exactly what the may want, so that's why I'm trying to get rid of the habit.Abce2|TalkSign 23:54, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah but in this case you became the vandal. Appology accepted though. No big deal. --68.41.80.161 (talk) 02:37, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Noloop case extended

As a party to the Noloop arbitration case, I'm leaving you this note to let you know that I've extended the deadline in the Noloop case for the posting of the proposed decision. You now have until 13 September to present further evidence, or start presenting evidence. I've explained further here. If you have any questions, please ask there. Carcharoth (talk) 00:49, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Technically they can ask me to stay of their talk page. I don't have to listen, but I think it's more polite to respect their wishes. That said, I went ahead and replied, reasons why in the message. This is just a mess. I want to help them to understand what's going on, but talking to them feels like a cranky old grandmother who keeps repeating, "What? Why are you here? Speak up! You're a poor excuse for a physical therapist! Why, in my day...", etc. A little insignificant (talk) 15:14, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If editing "constructively" means forcing myself to some non neutral Administrators' opinion, then I am sorry I cant do that. Anyway I dont consider Wikipedia as a free encyclopdia anymore, I found this [1]. Which fits very correctly to the real picture. Since you were the one to communicate to me, and I am simply respnding back , but hahaha go ahead and tell some admin to block me again. I dont have any respect left for you anymore . It would be far wiser of you to just walk away and leave this person alone. Nothing good will come from baiting him/her. Parsecboy (talk) 00:35, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I was just asking if the user wanted to talk about the issue, but later I realized that wouldn't work. But I wasn't baiting. I was trying to sort things out. Sorry. Abce2|TalkSign 00:56, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sometimes it's just better to let things go. Wikipedia's a pretty big place, it's always easy to find something else to edit :) Parsecboy (talk) 01:03, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Crud, just put a talkback notice, then I read the thing on the top. Was I baiting? Abce2|TalkSign 01:03, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No problem :) Given the back-and-forth on the AIV talk page, it seemed to me like it might have been. But you have convinced me that it wasn't your intention. I wouldn't worry about it. Parsecboy (talk) 01:06, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks. Today I've had more that my fair share of vandals and trolls and others, so I may be a little stressed out. Sorry for hogging all of them. :) Abce2|TalkSign 01:09, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Doesn't bother me any :) That's one of the problems with doing a lot of R/C patrol and such, you can get stressed from all the negativity you see. Sometimes it's nice to get out in the "fresh air" of Wikipedia and work on an article :) Parsecboy (talk) 01:12, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's strange how I end up in stuff. Really strange. Oh well, I'm going to go edit some articles, hope I don't get involved in an edit war, and live another day. Abce2|TalkSign 01:15, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

School notabliity

In addition to the general WP:N, some often look to parallels in Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies), seeing schools falling under that category. There's also the Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools/Article guidelines that may be of a bit more assistance. Skier Dude (talk) 04:38, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A wider search might be more helpful in finding 3rd party coverage - [3] Skier Dude (talk) 04:50, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Most of the stuff there is 'closings and cancellations', student awards, obituaries & the like. A quick scan of the first 30 didn't show me anything that would be usable to support notablitity. Skier Dude (talk) 04:59, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Google news & Bing are the best sources... sorry, can't think of anything else. Skier Dude (talk) 05:03, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The list is Wikipedia:Reliable sources - the issue is getting the reliable source (i.e. newspaper) to speak of something that makes the institution notable. So, the newspaper talking about school closings wouldn't cut it, as it doesn't establish notability. So, it's a combination of the source that speaks to the notability of the institution. Skier Dude (talk) 05:10, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Great. Just great.

Thanks for once again covering my back over at my talk page. I've blocked him for pretty much every applicable reason. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 22:42, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Amen. I do have to admit to getting a chuckle out of WPerdue's comment, so things aren't all bad. Geez, I explained what happened to both of those accounts, unblocked them both with my apologies and now we have this. I haven't blocked the other account since frankly, he hasn't done anything wrong. Sheesh. Anyway, thanks again. Don't know what I'd do without users like you here to help. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 22:46, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lucky me. At least I discovered that the other account is online; he answered my concern right away and I just answered him back. The engine sure does seem like a fabulous breakthrough and they have a running prototype, but right now, that's all it is. If Wikipedia were around in Edison's time, I can pretty much guarantee that a new article on his prototype electric light would have been deleted. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 22:57, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Autoblocks

Hey there. I'm working with the developer Werdna to try to resolve the autoblock issue. He wanted me to ask you what exactly you were doing immediately before and when you got the autoblock messages. Regards, NW (Talk) 00:54, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Abce2, did you visit the user page of the blocked user? I had the same problem, and noticed it happening to several others too, and it seems like what we all had in common (except I don't know if you did it) is looking at the talk page of the blocked user. I had you page watchlisted from my previous tweak of your page, and saw your unblock message earlier. I looked at ImHERgentleMAN's talk page to see what was going on, and when I went to post on ANI about you, I was autoblocked because of ImHERgentleMAN's block. So, if that's actually what's going on, I suggest you NOT look at a blocked user's talk page for a while! --Floquenbeam (talk) 00:56, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It didn't seem like a test to me, just a couple of school kids trying to promote MLK.Abce2|This isnot a test 04:42, 19 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Seems it was speedy deleted. ConcernedVancouverite (talk) 04:46, 19 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Probaly because it was going to be deleted anyway, so why would someone bother with changing templates?Abce2|This isnot a test 04:47, 19 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Quack!

It's so obviously him it's not even funny. He's gone. Thanks for letting me know. I'm going to ask for a quick CU to see which IP he's using; if it's Comcast, that'll give me that much more ammo. I am absolutely, positively going to lodge a complaint. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 22:12, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know. The age of this account makes me wonder if this nut has any other sleepers like this. I don't have time to file a CU, but I will, believe me. Thanks for all your good work. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 23:11, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I wonder when'll Bambifan finally run out of socks, and finally go bare feet to confess what he's doing is wrong?

Not me. This guy is out of Oakville, Ontario. Rather clever statement, though. I hope he does run out of socks someday. The truest definition of an idiot is someone who repeatedly does something pointless and expecting a different outcome each time. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 22:27, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed.Abce2|This isnot a test 23:22, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think he expects a different result, I bet he just does it to irritate us. How long's it been, about three years? If he became constructive, he'd probably be experienced enough for adminship by now. I'm not implying anything, psychos like that. Maybe he's an organization of Wiki-terrorists, a group of unemployed people with plenty spare time, who work together to annoy us. Nah. Lord Spongefrog, (I am the Czar of all Russias!) 16:53, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. Mind if I leave a semi-irrelevant comment here every now and then? It's just with Javert gone (and Vicenarian semi-gone) it's so lonely here :( Lord Spongefrog, (I am the Czar of all Russias!) 16:53, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't mind. But Bambifans a kid, so of course he's unemployed. But he probably wouldn't get adminship, because he has earned the distrust of the community.Abce2|This isnot a test 12:53, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I saw some discussion on the service award talk page a while back about a need for a new set of service awards so I have come up with this. I am open to just about any suggestion but please do not edit any of the templates themselves without getting permission from me first. Thanks!

Proposal to dismiss Noloop arbitration case

As a party to the Noloop arbitration case, I'm notifying you that I've made a proposal here to dismiss the case. Discussion is here. Carcharoth (talk) 03:19, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, but as a procedural matter, I've had to remove your comment or "vote" on the proposed decision page. That page is where the arbitrators actually vote, so only the arbs should post there. Your comments will be welcome on the talkpage or the workshop. Regards, Newyorkbrad (talk) 20:13, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ohhh...I get it. Sorry, I don't know much about it and the comment above yours confused me. Again, sorry. Abce2|This isnot a test 20:15, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not a problem. Thanks for your interest in the process. Regards, Newyorkbrad (talk) 22:33, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In light of the absence of Noloop (talk · contribs) and the indefinite block of WebHamster (talk · contribs), the two primary parties, this case is dismissed. If future problems arise (following the return or unblock of either or both editors), those problems should be dealt with by the opening of a new user conduct request for comment on the editor concerned. Requests for the Arbitration Committee to reopen this case would also be considered.

BMF

I understand, but if you look at the history this has been going on for DAYS non-stop. I am only undoing his edits because he has absolutely no right to delete them and provides no explanation when he does. It's not a "war", it's me deleting his removal of material that deserves to be there and is properly sourced by government documents and the persons own testimony, or his own words. I only recently started calling him stupid because it's VERY VERY annoying. I've literally probably undone at least 30 of his edits in the last 2 days. jlcoving (talk) 21:37, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I wasn't looking to excuse anything. I don't think it's that big of a deal I called a little child stupid a few times. I've done a lot to that article and pretty much added the bulk of information there as well as the sources and I don't like this person continues to do the exact same behavior with absolutely no explanation day after day. He's been warned numerous times that he will be blocked but that has yet to happen yet. I will go back to using the standard undo summary. Apologies. jlcoving (talk) 21:40, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
