Trafalgar Cemetery challenge

This Sunday is the Battle of Trafalgar commemoration day - there will be an annual commemoration event in Trafalgar Cemetery in Gib. It would be great if we could get a 5x expansion done in time for the article to be ready for DYK for that day. Could you see what you can do with it? Prioryman (talk) 23:37, 16 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, good idea.♦ Dr. Blofeld 23:49, 16 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've nominated the article for DYK now; do you think you might be able to do one of the reviews at Template:Did you know nominations/Trafalgar Cemetery? Prioryman (talk) 06:53, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Tauá

An FYI that I thought and thought about the Tauá hook today, wrote an article tonight on Jovita Feitosa of Tauá, and went to do the double nom without realizing you had done the Taua already; added an ALT1 to your nom. Marrakesh

Thank you for your kind comments and the barnstar. But to continue my annoyance, I noticed you're squatting the Marrakesh article already at DYK when it is not yet completed. I had hoped to contribute to expanding the Marrakesh article too, esp. the history section, but because of that DYK nom, I'm forced to withhold my additions until you're done. Nvchar has made substantial additions today, I'm not sure if its exactly fair for you to pre-emptively take credit for his expansions. The name issue is also yet to be resolved. Can you remove that nomination until all this gets resolved? Walrasiad (talk) 20:48, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nvv has been away and has now returned so will be credited as will you too if you add to it extensively. I had to nom early because of the DYK deadline. If you view the DYK talk page you'll see I proposed to extend it to 10 days to allow big articles to be written..♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:42, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have added more than 10,000 ch. Hope it is now 5x. I will post another article for 5x expansion. Thanks.--Nvvchar. 22:59, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've been looking at some of the additions and see they need attention. The article is certainly improving in coverage but it must be frustrating for the GA reviewer to see such a lot going on. Never mind! Every little helps. --Ipigott (talk) 14:28, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Marrakech? Its not up for GA yet.I intend doing quite a bit more yet but its difficult to concentrate on it.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:40, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Tauzieher again

It's gone all quiet over at the nomination. Could you check my suggested alts against the article (and recheck the article if you like) and consider whether to reinstate the tick? Yngvadottir (talk) 20:50, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I dunno,it looks fine to me. I don't want to tick it and have somebody else turn up and point out errors, my good to go still stands!♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:40, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Then repeat the tick, saying which hook you prefer :-) It was just the hooks I had to call a halt on - the main one was based on a misunderstanding of the sources, and after my retranslation it should be clear it's not accurate. (I'd have crossed out the main hook, but I hadn't thought to look for a DYK nom.) Yngvadottir (talk) 22:00, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"The Man with the Golden Gun" in '69?

Hi; just responding to your edit in that article, but... I don't think EON would've gone to such great lengths with the Bond casting in '67-'68 were Roger Moore available. I also don't think they would've made screenwriter Richard Maibaum switch writing jobs after working three years at that point on the script for On Her Majesty's Secret Service (I'm relying here on info from The Making of On Her Majesty's Secret Service, by Charles Helfenstein, which uses a great amount of material from the Maibaum papers), and considering they'd already farmed out You Only Live Twice to Roald Dahl just so Maibaum could continue work on OHMSS... forgive me if I'm a bit dubious about the source. The fact that Helfenstein never mentioned a possible TMWTGG for that year when he'd gone into great detail about the scuppered OHMSS and Diamonds Are Forever plots makes me even more dubious... but I'm willing to listen to your argument in favor of it. Cheers. :-) Stolengood (talk) 23:55, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Its in the documentary I think about Roger Moore being approached in 1967-1968 after You Only Live Twice as Connery's replacement. They went to such great lengths for casting precisely because he wasn't available at the time, like Dalton wasn't in 1973 and Brosnan wasn't in 1986..♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:13, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Moore was mentioned in the book I'm referencing, by Harry Saltzman (think it was from an interview shortly after Connery announced he was leaving); he apparently raised Moore as a possibility, but then dismissed him in the same sentence because Moore would've been too connected in the public's mind with The Saint. As for the book you were referencing (if I'm going by the citation thingie, which states it a book and not a documentary), I haven't read it, but the one I'm consulting seems too thorough for me to dismiss out of hand, especially considering the revelations it brings from the Maibaum papers. Which should take precedence, do you think? :-S Stolengood (talk) 18:44, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Right now, I think it's the Kardashians, followed closely by the Jersey Shore crowd and Honey Boo Boo. The others you mention at least perform, except for Paris Hilton. And she's the punchline to a joke that was finished ages ago. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 14:25, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, well. Considering some talk show hostess asked Mitt Romney if he watched Jersey Shore or Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, instead of, you know, substantive policy questions...I despair. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 14:57, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, that. I just looked at it. Some nice ideas, I suppose - but I think it's far too clunky to see regular use. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 18:57, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Something different

This: [1] I actually saw Junior Brown live at Ziggy's a few years back. One guitar playing son of a gun. A lot of Dick Dale type 60's surf type music and some 70s style rock, not that much actual country music. Very raw stuff and a very basic setup, just a short wall of Fender twins. If you ever get the chance, it is worth the ticket price, he tours all over in small venues. And yes, I love this one, too. [2] and [3] Yes, the bulk of my actual stage work was this kind of rockabilly, sometimes with a dobro and a '56 Harmony lap steel, and a touch more distortion. :) Dennis Brown - © Join WER 18:35, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"my Wife Thinks you're dead", wow that bass voice gives Trace Adkins a run for his money in deepness!♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:42, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oh yeah. He had a couple of big country hits, but he is doing the same thing he has always done, tour colleges and small to medium venues. I think it was a fairly cheap ticket and a relaxed, fun show, mainly cover songs and some really great picking. Dennis Brown - © Join WER 19:10, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've always wanted to visit one of the old school jazz/blues clubs in NYC or Boston like Birdland or Village Vanguard or something. In fact one of my deepest wishes would be to go back to the Golden jazz age in one of those cool clubs in NYC and watch/play with the greats. As Pat Martino said you can learn old jazz at universities and study their music but the environment in which jazz came to be, sadly just doesn't exist any more"!♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:14, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • About 10 years ago, I took the wife on a tour of Texas, my "homeland". On a Sunday, we found ourselves in Luckenbach, Texas, population 3. Spent all day pitching washers, eating roasted corn on the cob and burgers, drinking Shiner Boch, hanging with some Dallas Cowboys, at least a hundred bikers, plus people that varied from plumbers to bankers. A crowd of several hundred. There is a tree that everyone with guitars gathers under (near the dance hall that is closed on Sunday), and they just play song after song, each time different people come and go, all free style, all types but mainly country, old rock and gospel. Nothing electric, all of them quite good, just fellow visitors. Slowest day of my life, and the song made sense after that. Only two things in life that make it worth livin', are guitars that tune good and firm feeling women. Spending that day with the wife, the music, the entirely laid back atmosphere was an event as well. It is the only time in my life that I can say that I felt that time stood still. So good music and good times comes in all shapes and forms, sometimes it catches you off guard. Dennis Brown - © Join WER 20:04, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well done boys. My favourite quotation of all time, which I repeat ad nauseum, is that "truth springs from argument among friends". I don't believe you see the mettle of someone until you've disagreed with them, and see how that disagreement is resolved. Dr Blofeld and I had a somewhat acrimonious disagreement a week or so ago, but the next day we were back at work without any childish nonsense. The cancer here, IMO, is the constant vendettas. I have absolutely no problem at all with Dr Blofeld coming to my talk page to tell me what an arsehole he thinks I am, and I very doubt that he'd faint if I responded in kind. Malleus Fatuorum 20:20, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
