Enable gadget

Hi Kaldari, would you be so kind to enable a gadget here? See this topic. Thank you, Multichill (talk) 11:34, 14 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ryan, did you have time to have a look at this? Multichill (talk) 20:04, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry it took me so long to get around to this. See Wikipedia:Gadget/proposals#Direct imagelinks to Commons. Kaldari (talk) 18:46, 21 October 2012 (UTC
Ryan, please, no talk page hopping, I'm running low on bunnies.
Thanks for placing that there, it never ceases to amaze me how bureaucratic this Wikipedia is ;-) Multichill (talk) 20:22, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Notability and indiscriminate collection of information

Hi, this is regarding your recent edits at Gangnam Style and Gangnam phenomenon.

From what I understand from WP:GNG, an article could be considered as notable if there is a significant amount of reliable, 3rd party sources covering it. I think this could be the case for Gangnam phenomenon, because it seems that there have been journalists and authors from different publications and national newspapers around the world that have used the term, I think it could be considered notable, in my humble opinion.

Also, I believe a few sections found at Gangnam Style could be considered encyclopedic, especially the part about celebrity tweets. Several third party sources have claimed that celebrity tweets have been the main reason for the song's success, for example, The Wall Street Journal says that T-Pain tweet "sent [the video] to the stratosphere" and Der Spiegel wrote that the singer owe's his success to Katy Perry's tweet, etc

Taken as a whole, this could be a relevant section that may explain the song's success outside its home country. Also, as per WP:WORLDVIEW, I thought it could be a good idea to include opinions from sources outside the English speaking world, perhaps the list could be shortened a little to exclude some smaller countries, but I think it might be unfair to remove it completely. I think the song's reception in some significant countries such France, Germany, China, India, etc could be included, in my humble opinion.

Also, I have to admit that I've only been editing Wikipedia since 2 months ago, so please do let me know if you have suggestions on how to better integrate all the above information into the article (Other than just long strings of text) -A1candidate (talk) 19:42, 15 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Grave of Téviec FPC

I have an update on Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Grave of Téviec, in which you commented, which may be of interest to you. Please take a look! Prioryman (talk) 20:33, 16 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Reply to your Question re: Valerie Solanas on my talk page

Hi. I don't know whether this is the correct way to reply to a question you put on my Talk page. I sent you an email with the information you requested. Perhaps, if this is not the correct way to reply, you could shoot me a note giving me the information. I cannot find it anywhere.

Thanks very much, Robyn42 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Robyn42 (talkcontribs) 14:10, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Unclosing RFC? Highly disruptive!

This goes way beyond WP:BOLD. Just because you're an admin, doesn't give you a right to modify a duly closed RFC. I understand that you dispute that "duly", and that is your right - in a discussion on the talk page, not by de-facto imposing your will. To me, the high-handedness here clearly shows judgment unbecoming an admin. Homunq () 23:15, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Disruptive? I was just correcting what I thought was a mistake. If the RfC is closed, where is the closing statement? I don't see any evidence of it being closed (other than that template). Kaldari (talk) 00:14, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
OK. The closing statement is on talk. I realize this is irregular and perhaps improper (though WP:AIR applies I think), but things have proceeded significantly and in my opinion productively on the basis of that RFC being closed, so I would ask you to revert your un-closing. Homunq () 02:24, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Reverted. Kaldari (talk) 21:30, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm trying to figure out why WP:AIR applies here. Perhaps that's not the link you intended? -- RoySmith (talk) 01:09, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Um... WP:IAR. In that, closing an RFC that is obviously going nowhere is not a reason to call in airstrikes. Homunq () 18:04, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summary label

Since you previously commented on what to do with the thing, here's a heads up that I've opened a new discussion regarding it. Any input you may or may not have now would be appreciated, regardless of what you said previously. -— Isarra 06:48, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Solanas GA review

There are comments on the talk page we have to address. Just FYI. Cirt didn't inform you, it appears. SarahStierch (talk) 17:20, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Breakroom proposal

Hello, I noticed that your oppose rationale contradicts the proposed rules for the BR. If you have the time, please take another look. I think you'll see that "slamming" someone who is not actively participating there would be prohibited. Anyway, this negative aspect already occurs regularly at user talk pages. Cheers! ~ GabeMc (talk|contribs) 21:54, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the clarification. I've amended my comments. Kaldari (talk) 01:12, 25 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Pakistan "famous" articles

Thanks for helping clean one up earlier. Just an FYI I've generated a much larger list at User:Legoktm/Pakistan/Famous in case you're interested. Thanks, Legoktm (talk) 07:03, 25 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Why I'm Not An Administrator

Thank you for your recent question on my UserTalk page. The only reason I am not currently a Wikipedia administrator is because nobody else has nominated or approved me for administratorship, but I am still willing to accept such an opportunity. --TommyBoy (talk) 08:11, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Takes Naga

Hello. Bikol Wikipedia is planning to hold Wikipedia Takes Naga this coming November 24, 2012. We will be using this http://toolserver.org/~contests/startahunt.php Thanks. --Filipinayzd (talk) 09:16, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Would you mind looking at something?

Hi Ryan, would you mind looking at Talk:Derek McCulloch? Several editors are reporting that it's taking a long time to save edits, and to load the page after saving -- 40 seconds plus (for me). It's becoming a bit of a nuisance because a few of us are trying to discuss a contentious edit. Can you see anything on the page that might be causing it? 3. Conradh na Gaeilge Grapple X (submissions)
  4. Scotland Casliber (submissions)
  5. New York City Muboshgu (submissions)
  6. Wisconsin Miyagawa (submissions)
  7. Minnesota Ruby2010 (submissions)
  8. Michigan Dana Boomer (submissions)

Prizes for first, second, third and fourth will be awarded, as will prizes for all those who reached the final eight. Every participant who scored in the competition will receive a ribbon of participation. In addition to the prizes based on placement, the following special prizes will be awarded based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, the prize is awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round.

Awards will be handed out in the coming days; please bear with us! This year's competition also saw fantastic contributions in all rounds, from newer Wikipedians contributing their first good or featured articles, right up to highly experienced Wikipedians chasing high scores and contributing to topics outside of their usual comfort zones. It would be impossible to name all of the participants who have achieved things to be proud of, but well done to all of you, and thanks! Wikipedia has certainly benefited from the work of this year's WikiCup participants.

Next year's WikiCup will begin in January. Currently, discussions and polls are open, and all contributions are welcome. You can also sign up for next year's competition. There will be no further newsletters this year, although brief notes may be sent out in December to remind everyone about the upcoming competition. It's been a pleasure to work with you all, and we hope to see you all in January! J Milburn (talkemail) and The ed17 (talkemail) 00:30, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator Nomination

Thank you for nominating me for administrator. What if anything do I need to do in order to formally accept it? --TommyBoy (talk) 09:41, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just write a brief acceptance statement below my nomination and answer the questions at Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship/TommyBoy. Once that is done, let me know and I'll post it for comments. Kaldari (talk) 09:43, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Done. --TommyBoy (talk) 12:48, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your additional advice regarding my administrator nomination. Per your suggestion, I have updated the e-mail setting on my User Account. Incidentally enough, I had a previous discussion with another user regarding user e-mail back in May, 2011, but was unable to update my settings at the time. With regard to your other suggestion regarding I plan to do if granted administratorship, do you think I should amend my previous answer? --TommyBoy (talk) 20:51, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If you feel like there are other ways you could use the admin tools, yes. If not, your existing answer is fine. I only mention it since Risker is of the opinion that the main reason there are so few admin promotions these days is because we don't really need more admins for vandal fighting, but that's just one opinion :) Kaldari (talk) 21:10, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Per your suggestion, I have amended my answer on what I plan to do if granted administratorship. --TommyBoy (talk) 23:01, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

TommyBoy at RFA

Care to mention some of the other usernames appearing in the queries that produced TommyBoy's name? More RFA nominations would be greatly appreciated :-) Nyttend (talk) 22:39, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, I didn't save the list, but should be fairly easy to regenerate. Let's see how this one goes first :) Kaldari (talk) 22:53, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have unblocked this editor, in part because you have expressed a willingness to help by mentoring them. I've told them they need to come here for instructions, and that before they do anything that might be questionable (like add external links), they should ask you or myself first. Thanks for your willingness here, and hopefully we can move forward with this editor, in a productive way. Dennis Brown - © Join WER 18:39, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kaldari, Thanks for believing in me and giving the opportunity to redeem myself. At this point, I think I’ll just spend a couple of days going over Wiki rule and stay away from editing (with the exception of you talk page). I’m probably to traumatized to read a page for fear of doing something wrong. Dennis recommended a few pages and I’ll start with those. Thanks again. I know promises are pretty common in cyberspace—but I won’t let you down. Carlang (talk) 21:35, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
