Problems with upload of File:OPL MCL Branch.jpg
I was attempting to delete this image but that does not appear to be possible. I have loaded the same image three times in order to get the copyright information put in correctly. I am new and do not fully understand how to edit the tags of an image I have uploaded. With the current image uploaded, I have put in the correct copyright information so File:OPL MCL Branch.jpg can be deleted. Hi,
Thank you for your attention to the photo added today by the above name. Because the photo is an album cover it complies with Wikipedia Non-Free Use Policy I thought. Is this not the case or how can I better tag this album cover? I am confused what you are asking me to do. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

Wiki Commons sourcing
In a sandbox, I tried to create an image for use in a grid found on 'Confederate States of America'.
Other states are included, not Virgina's (and some others). When you click on the image of the flags picured in the grid, it links you to a Wiki Commons site. Virginia's is at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Flag_of_Virginia.svg . There, it is said the image is in the public domain because the image was registered with the USG before 1923.
have have gone through maybe four Wikipedia tutorials and guides. one online said that using a wiki commons source, one could put it on the desktop and upload it from there. I have not been able to upload an image from wiki commons, but the framed box has been generated and a hot link, not the image...
I have no idea how I may have created a stand alone flag off in the internet ether...I thought the flag would be in the image box I created in the sandbox...but it's not there...(She's not there, The Zombies, 1964) TheVirginiaHistorian (talk) 17:25, 21 August 2010 (UTC)

Reply: License tagging for File:Bullets 8 (with captions).jpg
I felt it would be easier for people not very (or perhaps completely un-) familiar with what bullets look like. Being mildly dyslexic, its easy to make a mistake trying to match a caption to an item in a pic.
As for the license: I took the picture from an existing one that already existed on the page for and is found here:
. The photo was taken by an editor and given to wikipedia under the GNU license. I couldn't find a choice in the drop-down list of licenses that matched it and, as I wrote, I really got quite confused trying to place my captioned image on the article in question (Gauge). I had intended to add the tags the creator used but I could find no way to edit the page in order to add them once I'd uploaded the file.
Also, thanks for pointing me toward the place to get help. I've been an editor for 5+ years now but I've done very little with photographs/video etc.
Thanks for creating the bot; helpful.

- You should probably have a look at Wikipedia:File copyright tags. Since you grabbed the image from Facebook, the image is not free of copyright unless declared so by the copyright holder. Therefore, it probably needs to be used under terms of fair use here, and you should probably use {{Non-free fair use in|Premakeerthi de Alwis}} and supply a fair use rationale. --Hammersoft (talk) 17:43, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi - you left me a note to say I don't seem to have said "where the image came from or who created it".
I have tried to add this information already and I think it is on the file - but the placing might be wrong. The wizard for uploading did not seem to allow me to choose the right things which was Book/Journal cover - Public Domain.
I have added a note "it was produced in 1818 which means it is now in the public domain"
And in the template under source - it has this http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=Voc3AAAAMAAJ&printsec=frontcover&dq=editions:Voc3AAAAMAAJ&hl=en&ei=KiCVTMSABYz_Oe_QiIkJ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=6&ved=0CEEQ6AEwBQ#v=onepage&q&f=false

Hola Hammersoft. Is the bot confused by {{pd-textlogo}} type templatery, or am I? See File:Pitt Colonials.png. One of us is for sure. Angus McLellan (Talk) 23:21, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
- You've left the "owner", "website", and "source" fields of the {{logo fur}} template empty, you haven't filled out an {{information}} template, and there's no freeform text on the image description page. The bot's been told that an image tagged with {{PD-textlogo}} requires a source, and there's nothing there that the bot would recognize as a source. --Carnildo (talk) 01:26, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
- Yabbut logo_fur has reasonable default values for those fields. I don't think the bot should rely on there being text in them. I'm still not clear on whether pd-textlogo is supposed to be accompanied by information (which would always have those populated) or by logo_fur (which wouldn't always). Angus McLellan (Talk) 15:21, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
- From the bot's viewpoint, either template will work. From a human standpoint, I'd prefer an {{information}} template, since the image isn't being used under a claim of fair use. --Carnildo (talk) 20:23, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
- More work :-( But it's a fair point. Thanks, Angus McLellan (Talk) 23:24, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

Unsused FUR with rationale for one more articles
In one case the image code had been deleted from the article by a vandal, the image was tagged and deleted and then was unavailable for the article. Possible mitigating steps:
- leave a message for the uploader
- Leave a different tag on the image page - specifiying the article(s) needing checking.

Notification
This bot doesn't seem to have notified me about tagging my file File:HunterPortrait.jpg for deletion. Also, I am not sure the tag is accurate, since I have used the {{PD-art-life-70}} template, so providing information about the current copyright holder doesn't seem relevant. I have, however, added information about the artist.--KorruskiTalk 11:25, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
- 1)You have a nobots tag on your talk page. Try tailoring it to only opt out of some bots if you want others.
- 2)Goddamnit, I had one like that the other day. Please fix this error ASAP so I don't have to block this bot. Magog the Ogre (talk) 11:33, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
- Addendum: oh it's already blocked . Magog the Ogre (talk) 11:35, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
- Strictly speaking, asking for the "copyright holder" is incorrect, but the bot identified a genuine problem: you did not provide source information. Hello, and thank you for the alert. Help: ImageTaggingBot trashed licenced images.
How do I keep the ImageTaggingBot from trashing work?
I created the following images, and I included the correct copyright information, but the ImageTaggingBot trashed the links.
- File:Pulse-doppler ambiguity zones.png
- File:Pulse doppler signal processing.png
- File:Waveguide.png
I don't want to put the images back because I will just be fighting with a piece of software.
What has to be done to stop software from automatically trashing things?
I hope this finds everyone well.

Hi,
I received your message about tagging the Slaughterhouse (group) logo. I cannot do it. I am new to Wikipedia. The group themselves released that image to be used in cases like this. Please could you fill the tag in yourself, or guide me on which tag to place there because I do not know what I am doing.

File:BonnieStoryPoster1957.jpg information
ImageTaggingBot tagged the file File:BonnieStoryPoster1957.jpg as needing more source and copyright information, but the items it requested were present under the heading "Source"; I padded out the info there, but if the bot didn't see it the first time around, it might not see it again. Apologies for the initial lack. Why was the "no copyright holder" tag applied to this image with the questions:
- Who created this image?
- Who holds the copyright to this image?
- Where did this image come from?
when all of these questions were specifically answered in the tag I applied to the image, which states "Private photo taken-by and owned-by former Alcor Life Extension Foundation President Mike Darwin who sent the photo to me requesting that it be used as the photo for Dr. Donaldson's Wikipedia page." --Ben Best (talk) 12:58, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

Non free, fair use images and licensing.
This bot left a message for me about File:Have Blue.jpg not having a license.
Non free, fair use images won't have licenses, they have non-free, fair use rationale. Perhaps the bot should check for this before leaving messages.
Also, I suggest the bot also leaves messages for previous uploaders of the same file. I did some clean-up work to the image and have no idea where it came from. The original uploader is far more likely to.
(Hohum @) 16:19, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
- The bot acted correctly. The image does not have a license indicating its license status. There is a non-free rationale, but that is not the same as a license. Please see Wikipedia:File copyright tags. An appropriate license tag has been added to the image. --Hammersoft (talk) 19:01, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
- Fair enough. Any merit in my second point? (Hohum @) 19:25, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
- Ideally, the bot would have left the message back when the person originally uploaded the file. For very old uploads, or for uploads that happened when the bot wasn't working, this won't be true, but in the majority of cases it is. --Carnildo (talk) 23:01, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

License tagging for File:CandidiasisDerm-57.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:CandidiasisDerm-57.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.
To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. Veins in the different countries, basically in Germany. Has died in 1945-1946 in USA. It bequeathed to the to the spouse to baroness Meylani von Nagel-Mussayassul to return a part of its pictures to Dagestan as a gratuitous gift to people of Daghestan. Its spouse has carried out will of the late. The part of pictures Mussayassul is stored in different museums of capital of republic Daghestan - Makhachkala, another in a museum in its native village - village Tchokh of Ghunib district of Republics Daghestans (RU). What else there can be questions? The artist was submitted Iran and its this picture was is written and exposed in Iran in 1935. Images for the CES, Hu Ge and Cecilia Liu pages
Hi, I received your notification about the image use policy. The Hu Ge and Liu Shi Shi pictures are originally owned by Netease, who have uploaded it onto Baidu Images (just like a Chinese version of Google Images)under a free license, in which anyone can take the pictures, but cannot edit and reupload it without stating the original author (Netease). So, if I note that the pictures came from Netease originally, the pictures are still useable?
As for the CES pictures, the one with the Chinese Entertainment Shanghai next to it was screen clipped by myself from it's official website CEIHK. The picture of just a white dragon on a purple background was one of several screen clippings I found on Baidu Photos, and there weren't any watermarks stating where it came from. I could state that I just took it from Baidu Images, which is exactly the same as stating it is from Google Images (the original author/site is not shown). Is there an alternative method to show that this is under a free license?
Also, how do I edit the picture details so I can insert the license information about the pictures? Thanks in advance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by HuoyuDMY (talk • contribs) 09:17, 23 February 2012 (UTC)
File:Redstone Inn.JPG
Uh, this one was uploaded for use in DYK from Commons. It had the info clearly visible in the Commons data. I suggest this bot be trained or modified to take that into consideration. Daniel Case (talk) 17:36, 25 February 2012 (UTC)

File tagging broken
On File:Slamet Rijadi.jpg, File:HIM Damsyik.jpg, and other fair-use images of people that I've uploaded, the bot seems to not see that there are sources listed. It doesn't seem to read this template well. On posters, like File:Sang Pencerah poster.jpg, the bot doesn't seem to realise that the links aren't necessary. I think it's hopelessly broken. Hell Bent for Leather
Hi, my record says this This is a poster for Hell Bent for Leather. The poster art copyright is believed to belong to the distributor of the film, the publisher of the film or the graphic artist.
Source The poster art can or could be obtained from the distributor
Isn't this the usual? I've noticed there's some complaints about the system?Foofbun (talk) 01:39, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
File:Ureca, Bioko Island Equatorial Guinea.jpg
Hello, I just saw a deletion notification on the file File:Ureca, Bioko Island Equatorial Guinea.jpg which whilst nothing directly to do with me looks to have all it's tags correct, yet still got stung by the Bot. Not sure if anyone else is likely to chase this up so I thought I'd ask you what needs tweaking on that page (as I've not spent much time with uploading images I don't know the templates. Erroneous notice
I got a license warning for File:Shavian in Shavian.png, even though it contained a license tag from the time of first upload. Thought you should know about the error to see if it can get fixed. VanIsaacWScontribs 10:10, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
- There is no error. When the bot arrived at the image, there was no valid copyright tag on the image, just text saying "<PD-text>" [2]. The bot looks for valid copyright tags. User:Stefan2 corrected it [3] to "{{PD-text}}", which is a valid copyright tag. Note the use of "{{" instead of "<". --Hammersoft (talk) 13:27, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
Pervasive Software Logo
I included this graphic in an article I submitted: .
I received the message that I didn't tag it appropriately when I uploaded it.
Actually, I didn't upload it at all. It was already in the Wikipedia database because it had been used for another article ("Pervasive Software"). Whatever it was tagged for that article should still be appropriate. Handworks (talk) 15:20, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

Your bot keeps screwing up. Please fix it.
Your bot keeps sending me a message that images with the {{PD-text}} tag don't have a license tag. If it doesn't know all the valid licenses, it shouldn't be in operation. Fix it, now. VanIsaacWScontribs 07:43, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
And, I owe you an apology. The template brackets were mistyped. My bad. It's just that your bot did that last week when I uploaded other files too. Sorry. VanIsaacWScontribs 07:55, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
No source info?
Hey...you keep adding no source information tag to this image File:Madhubala2.jpg. What exactly do you want? The weblink to the source is given. §§AnimeshKulkarni (talk) 17:37, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
Bug report
The bot should not make such edits [4] [5] (this was a main-page upload from Commons, which was deleted and tagged by the DYK bot, and then tagged by ImageTaggingBot). Thanks. Materialscientist (talk) 09:10, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
- Sigh, I've reverted the bot, but he keeps coming back. BTW, why this edit? Materialscientist (talk) 10:13, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
- It can read only through certain specific templates. Did same tagging on File:Madhubala2.jpg, twice. §§AnimeshKulkarni (talk) 10:34, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
- If an image on Commons is uploaded locally, deleted locally, and an image-less description page is created, all in too short a timespan, it'll look to the bot like a local upload, and it processes the page as such. I've modified the bot so that it will ignore pages tagged with the {{DYKfile}} template, so this shouldn't happen in the future. --Carnildo (talk) 20:39, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks. Indeed, there were database delays around the time of tagging - this might have tripped the bot. Materialscientist (talk) 00:11, 25 May 2012 (UTC)

The Beast (Car)
"Thanks for uploading File:The Beast Color Front.png. You don't seem to have said where the image came from, who created it, or what the copyright status is. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator."
"The picture is from my grandmother's garage and is a historic photograph of Hermann Göring's Mercedes. No copyright or logo (save the swastika) can be found on the picture. It is slightly water damaged. This is the front picture."
The author, publisher, copyright, everything is unknown about this picture. I don't even think this picture exists on the internet. What would be the appropriate method of handling this?

Hi, thanks for your message about this file. I'm really sorry but I uploaded this file by mistake. There was already another copy of the same file on Wikipedia. I only found out after the copy was uploaded, so I tried to delete the file, but couldn't. Would you be able to do that, please?

Missing section break
A tag has been placed on your user page, User talk:Neil n sushi, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group or service, and which is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages: user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.
If you can indicate why the page is not blatant advertising, contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this: Click here to contest this speedy deletion which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}
) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to your user talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also edit this page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would help make it encyclopedic. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. ukexpat (talk) 14:51, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

That's all I have for now. Thanks.
