Basketball playing years in infobox

DaHuzyBru - Consensus has been for the playing years to reflect actual playing dates for club tenures. I edited Seth Curry and Maalik Wayns with this consensus in mind. For historical players we use game logs to determine years played (so only "1988" would show if he played 5 games in January, 1988 during the 1987-88 season), and modern players follow the same standard even though we usually have better contract status info. This is also consistent with the convention not listing clubs where the player signed but never played (we make an exception for players who have signed but have not yet had the opportunity to play - such as an August signee for a season starting in October). A recent extreme case is Andrew Bynum, who doesn't even show the Sixers in his club history though he was under contract all last year. If you think we should use a different standard, that is fair game, but we'd need to achieve sufficient consensus at WP:NBA or WP:BASKETBALL. Rikster2 (talk) 13:40, 6 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

DHB - Bagumba started a discussion on this. Please weigh in at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Basketball#Teams_listed_in_biography_infobox to determine how teams that a player never played a game for should be handled. Rikster2 (talk) 01:00, 8 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Luke Babbitt may have broken the syntax by modifying 2 "[]"s and 2 "{}"s likely mistaking one for another. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

MWP buyout

Woodson was quoted as saying it was a buyout,[1][2] and MWP tweeted similar a few days back. New York Times also called it a buyout.[3] Im guessing most team press releases don't go into contract specifics?—Bagumba (talk) 06:54, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sources in articles considered for deletion

Thanks for helping improve articles like Chris Babb that are being considered for deletion. I do ask that sources like the ones added here not be deleted, or alternatively are incorporated into the article. Note that players that do not meet WP:NBASKETBALL, can still meet WP:GNG. However, GNG asks for multiple sources of independent sources. Some may argue that NBA.com is not independent enough for a player invited to an NBA training camp. This is why I usually try to add a few independent sources to stub articles that are being questioned. Thanks.—Bagumba (talk) 20:28, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Interested in doing a college player article?

Cameron Bairstow is an Australian playing for New Mexico. He is a virtual lock to win the Mountain West Conference Player of the Year and is also could be a consensus All-American. He's represented Australia several times in international play as well. Seems up your alley, interested? It would certainly help the College Basketball project, where there are a number of significant players without articles. Thanks for the consideration. Maurice Harkless

As a third-generation Puerto Rican, Harkless is incapable of directly requesting the Puerto Rican citizenship document without residing in PR for a year. In other words, politically he is not Puerto Rican. "Puerto Rican-American", which is actually the proper spelling, is generally used when referring to second-generation people. Due to citizenship being a hotopic surrounding the status issue, I decided to include the distinctions between "political" and "FIBA" citizenship, which is meant to be a solomonic solution that prevents future edit wars once his name catches on in PR. I don't think that keeping two words really affects the article in any negative way, and it does prevent future damage. If you want to keep the statistics all over the page, I don't have any problem despite thinking that everything looks better if they were uniform. However, don't go around claiming that you are "fixing" something if you are unfamiliar with the relevant topics. 24.139.227.219 (talk) 09:07, 4 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

NBL infobox colors

I have no idea what the issue is, I am not that great on the technical front. It could be because college colors were added. I would recommend asking User:Frietjes, who added them before and is a very good coding expert. Rikster2 (talk) 13:29, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Royce White

What is going on with Royce White? He got recalled to the Kings, who were on a road trip. They seem to be dressing 12 instead of 13 on the road trip and he seems not to be travelling. His 10-day contract was up yesterday. I have not heard he was re-signed.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 05:04, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I am guessing that they re-sign him tomorrow before their next home game based on this story. No need for them to re-sign him while the team travels and he doesn't I guess. It will give the team 2 extra days to look at him I guess.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 14:58, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Well he has played in three games for a total of 8:55 and posted one missed shot and a couple of fouls. I hope they re-sign him just so that he does not end his career with these ridiculous stats. A11

Please don't use the A11 speedy deletion tag indiscriminately. A11 applies to articles about subjects that are self-evidently made up - new words, games, concepts or stories that clearly exist only in the mind of the author (or possibly one of their friends). It doesn't apply to anything else. Yunshui  12:08, 19 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

And again with Dant katha? It took literally seconds of Google-time to establish that the term was actually real - "looks made up to me" does not equate to "is actually made up". To paraphrase Inigo Montoya: "You keep using that tag. I do not think it means what you think it means." Yunshui  12:30, 19 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I prodded this instead of speedy deletion. OK? Bearian (talk) 18:47, 19 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Jerry Stackhouse

Is Jerry Stackhouse retired from the game? Last time I saw him on NBA TV as a analyst, but haven't seen any official article on his retirement. Also, someone deleted him off the free agent list on List of 2013–14 NBA season transactions, but hasn't added him to the "Retirement" section. Do you have any information about that? --Janisterzaj (talk) 09:50, 27 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Justin Watts

Does he meet GNG as a professional? His article was AfD'd when he was a college player - he wasn't notable for that. Just checking. Rikster2 (talk) 15:08, 29 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Depends on the level of coverage of the league. If the Mexican league he is in doesn't get much coverage then he may not meet GNG. Unfortunately "fully professional" basketball players aren't given the benefit of the doubt for notability like in soccer. Really, no skin off my nose, I am pretty cynical about notability standards - they are very inconsistent. I'm just really familiar with the Watts case since he played for my Alma mater. Thanasis Antetokounmpo

It is well known and commonly known that his nickname is Greek Freak 2. Can you please tell me why you are removing those edits?Bluesangrel (talk) 03:33, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It is well known, and that it is "silly" is your personal opinion. Also the reference given is not meant as an exact mention of the nickname, but a reference to it, since you removed it, it was added as a way in good faith to appease that. But you continue to say that edit was false. As you point out one single grammatical change that is necessary in writing the text, to discredit it, even though it does not. So it should not be in the heading? Then it can be under personal info then. If you have not noticed, many of the NBA players and D-League players have them listed, something you indeed should have noticed since you say that you mostly edit those player profiles.Bluesangrel (talk) 05:07, 9 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I did provide a source for it. You simply decided yourself that source was no good. Anyway, the NBA D-League itself refers to him as Greek Freak 2 in games, during broadcasts, in numerous videos on YouTube, etc. Do you consider NBA D League a source or not? We are not really here to debate the legitimacy of sources as individuals such as yourself see it fit one way or another personally in your own opinion. Just to explain it to you, Giannis has been called Greek Freak for a long time, before he was even in NBA or USA, and his brother was too. This was in Greece. And they were called the Greek Freaks in Greece, before NBA or USA. And called Greek Freak nation, Greek Freaks, Greek Freak brothers. So yes, Thanasis is called Greek Freak 2. This is nothing at all made up. I really do not like how you implied I make that up. Especially when NBA D-League's official YouTube is calling him that. But I'm not going to edit it back in since you are so against it because I see on your talk page that you have been in some edit wars before, and I'm not getting into it.Bluesangrel (talk) 01:35, 12 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, I think I have a good source for you. At this site, Thanasis Antetokounmpo interview take a look at the second embedded video on that page. Brad Tinsley

You can't believe everything you read on the internet. I am related to Brad and talk with him frequently and I can assure you he never signed a contract. I'm not too sure why you are pushing so much on this either but I would prefer not to have unnecessary/incorrect information on this page, thanks.

Do you know that preliminary agreements and signing a contract are different events? Just because the team decided to announce something does not mean anything.

Fisher playing position

Basketball-reference.com lists Fisher as both PG/SG likely since Reggie Jackson was the backup PG in Fisher's last stint with OKC. In reality, Fisher was never a true PG with Lakers under Jackson, often interchanging with Kobe in triangle offense. The other reality is there are plenty of editors that will periodically add it back since b-r.com lists it. I'll leave it to you if you want to police it.—Bagumba (talk) 17:43, 10 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There was also the discussion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_National_Basketball_Association/Archive_23#Player_positions_.28again.29. Again, will leave it to your discretion if you want to try to get more consensus on it. At any rate, I don't plan on reverting Fisher.—Bagumba (talk) 17:46, 10 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Aaron Afflalo

Including what player the draft pick was later used to draft IS pertinent to the player. It allows the reader to see what kind of value was traded away for the player. If Aaron Afflalo were traded for a draft pick that later became a superstar it would most certainly be of use to the reader. Remember this is an encyclopedia and as much information as possible should be included in every article. It also expands the article with additional information and links to other pages. NBA

If the trade was reported, it will happen, so we can put it up ahead of time! And with Jackson, he hasn't signed. Neither have many other rookies, so why do they have teams listed. So many rookies haven't signed, yet they are still reported as being on a team here. The Garrett-Novak trade did happen, so that should stay, the Haywood-Gee trade has not. I will revert the Jackson article and Novak and Garrett's articles. That trade happened. miamiheat631 (talk) 9:04 9 July 2014 (UTC) (sorry if I don't know how to sign a talk page) — Preceding undated comment added 14:03, 9 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, but the trade will happen, why can't we just update it now. There are a lot of people who agree to sign and they're on rosters here on Wikipedia and they haven't signed yet. miamiheat631 (talk) 9:04 9 July 2014 (UTC) (sorry if I don't know how to sign a talk page)

Ok, I didn't revert them. I just don't understand that if they agreed, they're going to be on the team, so we should get a headstart. Just saying. Garrett's a raptor and Novak's a Jazz. miamiheat631 (talk) 9:04 9 July 2014 (UTC) (sorry if I don't know how to sign a talk page)

Yes, exactly, he agreed but not signed, but he WILL sign, so we should just update it anyway, no need in waiting a day if we can just do it now. Granger is on the Heat. miamiheat631 (talk) 9:04 9 July 2014 (UTC) (sorry if I don't know how to sign a talk page)

It actually is pretty easy to understand, because they have agreed, they are on the team. The trade will happen, so they are on the respective teams, the NBA should do away with the moratorium period. They're will be on the teams, so they should be on Wikipedia now, plain and simple. I'm done arguing with you, you're wasting my time. And YOU'RE WRONG! miamiheat631 (talk) 9:04 9 July 2014 (UTC) (sorry if I don't know how to sign a talk page)

You're wrong. When they agree, they sign. As for the moratorium period, yes it should be gotten rid of, because they don't need ten days to discuss money, they should just sign, and they will. I'm done. miamiheat631 (talk) 9:04 9 July 2014 (UTC) (sorry if I don't know how to sign a talk page)

Bye wrong dude. miamiheat631 (talk) 9:04 9 July 2014 (UTC) (sorry if I don't know how to sign a talk page)

Antetokounmpo was not a Greek League all star

Source - [4] He did not play in the Greek League. He never played in the Greek League at all in his career. He was not eligible to be voted to or selected to the Greek League all star game because he was never a player in the Greek League. He did not play in the Greek Basket League. He played in Greece's 2nd tier league, it's 2nd division, the Greek A2 Basketball League. So of course he could not be an all star of a league he never even played in. The way it works is at the Greek all star weekend players from the lower divisions can't be all stars, but they can compete at the slam dunk contest and at the 3 point contest. Giannis' brother, Thanasis, was competing at the slam dunk contest. He too never played in the Greek League, so he too could not be a Greek all star. But he was competing at the slam dunk contest, which players from lower level leagues are allowed to do. So Giannis and his brother were there because of that. At the end of the Greek all star game, with like you know a minute in the game or something like that, the fans wanted to see Giannis play and were clapping and calling for his name, so the coaches obliged them and said he could go in the game for a few moments and play. And he played for a few possessions and the fans cheered and were happy then. That was it. This should not though be credited in the site as he was "a Greek League all star". It's really not accurate and correct, and because it's getting repeated in other places over the internet, even though it isn't actually true. If you need an English source, here is the Google translation of the source, which comes from the largest sports media in Greece, which is basically equivalent to like Greece's version of ESPN [5] Bluesangrel (talk) 23:29, 20 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summary

Unsolicited advice that you can feel free to take or leave. I notice you sometimes leave edit summaries like "back to old version" when reverting. Since you are already investing effort to add a summary (which is an improvement over many editors), it would be more helpful to explain why you made the revert, not just that you are doing it. If any good faith editors happen to read it, they will know what they did wrong. Something simple like "unexplained edit" or "unsourced" is what I usually use, and can go a long way toward swaying public opinion if you inadvertently get into disputes.—Bagumba (talk) 07:43, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker)@Zeke1888: "agreed to terms" means they have agreed, buy have not officially signed. Otherwise, they would say he "signed". His agent confirmed the agreement, which is better than the usual unnamed sources. However, he probably still hasn't really signed since he not on the Celtic's maintained site at http://www.nba.com/celtics/roster As I've stated at Wikipedia_talk:NBA#Agreeing_to_vs._signing_a_contract, I personally wouldn't add it, but I don't have the energy to constantly remove it when a player or his agent is quoted as having come to an agreement.—Bagumba (talk) 00:21, 5 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nominations for Corey Easley, James Legan

Hi there, as indicated in the other discussion, I don't consider these players notable either, so I've nominated the articles for deletion. I haven't looked through all of the articles you created (and don't intend to) and just want to point out that there's another bunch of borderline cases there which might be AfD'ed sooner or later as well (not by me). Life

if it's personal explain to me why almost every nba player early life is their parents and personal life is their wife and kids i'm just saying i thought that's how it was i created moriah jefferspm and her early life was her parents and siblings so no one had a problem with why now Kara5386 (talk 21:58, 19 August 2014

@Kara5386 and Lilk846: What every other NBA player? Biography's that have actual info about their early life has an early life section. See LeBron James for example. His early life section has "James was born on December 30, 1984 in Akron, Ohio to a 16-year-old mother, Gloria Marie James, who raised LeBron on her own." Now that has info on his mother, yes, but it also explains where he was born and the reason behind his mother's single parenting. Then it continues with actual info on LeBron's early life like "Growing up, life was often a struggle for LeBron, who moved from apartment to apartment in the seedier neighborhoods of Akron while Gloria struggled to find steady work." That right there is early life. It's doesn't just state "LeBron's mother is Gloria Marie James" and then that's it. No. It has info on his early life. It's not that hard to understand. Also I'm detecting Wikipedia:Sock puppetry between User:Kara5386 and User:Lilk846, so I suggest reading up on what sock puppetry is or a block for both accounts could occur i.e. you both have similar edit histories with this early life/personal thing.

Okay leave my name out of this I don't do that i don't know what your talking about I just created wnba players I just set them up like everyone else sorry if i don't do it your way but blocking me is just going overboard. I won't bother it anymore geesh you are talking it too far. I created Stefanie Dolson and the users like the way i created her so i didn't think i was doing anything wrong I though that's how all the bios were Lilk846 13:16, 20 August 2014

Article recommendations

Hi DaHuzyBru - not ure if you are looking for any new articles to create, but I had a couple of suggestions. First, Anthony Drmic is an Australian entering his senior year at Boise State. He has represented Australia internationally at the 2013 Summer Universade and will be a top candidate for his conference player of the year and is in good position to pass the 2000 point barrier for his college career. Second, Jack Salt is on the New Zealand national team and will be a freshman for the University of Virginia this season. He is currently on the 2014 NZ World Cup team (though I can't remember if they've made final roster cuts). He is a player I could probably get a nice photo of once the season starts as I live quite near the U. of VA's campus. The last is Daniel Kickert who was recently signed by Melbourne United. He has had a long pro career and played college basketball at Saint Mary's College (though the note in the NBL.co.au article is wrong in that he was not West Coast Conference POY in 2005). Just some thoughts, certainly no obligation on your part, but each of these players meets GNG. Rikster2 (talk) 12:01, 20 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
