Article "Doye Agama" (Deleted 15 Dec 2014)
Hello Jim. I'd like the opportunity to thoroughly re-write the article about Archbishop Agama, as a VERY MUCH briefer and simpler article, and more neutral point of view. Can the old article be reinstated for a week or two, to give me opportunity to work on it ? When I have done it, what's the best way of getting an independent view on whether it then meets the criteria or not ? -- Diakonias 10.50 am 17 Dec 2014 Diakonias (talk) 10:49, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
Thank you Jim for your help/advice (posted on my userpage talkpage). I have now very substantially re-written the article about Doye Agama. I have cut out a huge amount of material. I have tried to be purely factual/neutral. I'll be very interested to hear whether you think I have succeeded. I can cut out more material if you think I should. As you can see, I have also added some new material, which has been reported in the Press or (in one case) in a magazine that is wholly independent of Doye Agama and any organization he is part of. I do want to mould this wikipage into a format that is acceptable and unlikely to be successfully challenged. The revised article can be found in my sandbox. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks. Seasonal greetings. From Diakonias 9.25pm 17th Dec 2014 Diakonias (talk) 21:13, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for your time, comments and advice. Further editing now done. See my sandbox. (Incidentally, regarding the styles of address, I am very happy indeed to see that section deleted (which I have done)!!! I only inserted it in the first place because I had seen such sections on wikipages of several bishops -- for example Justin Welby and Nigel McCulloch, so, taking my cue from their wikipages, I thought it the thing to do to include it. Anyway, it's gone now, and well rid in my 'umble opinion). Diakonias (talk) 13:38, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
Yes, I did carry-on with a bit of minor tinkering. Sorry if that confused you. But, have definitely stopped now (stopped on Thursday). Ready to receive any comments you may have, as and when time permits. Diakonias (talk) 10:55, 20 December 2014 (UTC)
- Okay. I have worked on the sandbox again. I am not aware of any DIRECT criticism of Agama, or of Agama's comments, and some 'google' searching did not reveal any. There are of course people who hold and express contrary views. That is obvious. But, that is not quite the same as DIRECTLY criticising or challenging Agama or his comments. As this wikipage is about Agama, I'm really not sure why I would be giving a platform HERE for views that conflict with his, or pointing-up weaknesses in his views/arguments. If I may say so, that does not sit very comfortably with me. It seems to me that the place for such contrary comments would be on the wikipages of the persons who hold the contrary views and/or on wikipages about the issues themselves. Those are my thoughts. Even though I'm not very comfortable about doing it, I have inserted material expressing variant views re. some of the issues. Do you consider this wikipage is now close to being ready to be reinstated ? If you do have further comments, then please let me know. I value your comments and experience. And, your time. Thank you. On the matter what to do with the section on Agama's "Views", I really should prefer to revert to the shorter section I had earlier (i.e. to omit the contrary views, -- except perhaps for retaining the factual statement of how the same sex Bill progressed into law -- which, actually, does itself demonstrate that his views were simply disregarded), but if reverting is considered to result in a less-than-neutral point of view, or if retaining contrary views is considered as in some other way improving the article, then I'll bow to that "received wisdom" and experience, and retain the contrary views. Kind regards, and thanks once again. I appreciate your responses, and I just wish that the person who originally tagged the article for "speedy deletion" had engaged with me first. Diakonias (talk) 17:31, 20 December 2014 (UTC)
- P/script: As you can no doubt see, User:Philroc has now deleted all the edits I made today (20th). As far as I am aware, he/she has provided no explanation for this. Diakonias (talk) 20:40, 20 December 2014 (UTC)
- P/script 2: I have placed a note on Philroc's talkpage, asking him why he deleted my edits and explaining that you and I were in the middle of a discussion about the content of the Doye Agama wikpage. I wait to see what response he may offer, and whether he feels he has sound justification. Subject to what Philroc may say, the fact is that I'm beginning to think I just don't understand Wikipedia and beginning to ask myself whether perhaps I'd best 'resign' from trying to produce and edit any more material on Wikipedia, if other users are going to feel free to keep swooping-in and intervening in an item in a sandbox that is a subject of ongoing discussion between me and an experienced user such as yourself without so much as a "by your leave" or an explanation as to why (unless there is a "by your leave" or an explanation somewhere that I have not found it), and if (as happened with the "Doye Agama" page) an article that has stood for nearly a year apparently without major criticism can suddenly get tagged for "speedy deletion" and then actually deleted, again without any significant period of prior notice/warning and without first giving those who have developed the page reasonable time/opportunity to re-edit it before it is "pulled". Jim - am I being at all unreasonable here ? Diakonias (talk) 21:21, 20 December 2014 (UTC)
- TKU for your latest comment. What happens now ? Is it for me to reinstate the article (if so how do I move it from sandbox to live) or is it for you or someone else to do that. Thanks for your help and advice. Have a really good Christmas. Diakonias (talk) 14:22, 21 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hello Jim (Jimfbleak): I stripped-out mention of Nigerian Village Square. The article is not perfect and one could go on tinkering for ever. In your view, is it now ready for being reinstated in the main encyclopedia ? If so, what happens now ? Is it for me to reinstate it, or for you to do that, or someone else ? Thanks for your help and advice. Diakonias (talk) 14:52, 22 December 2014 (UTC) Also, in the history record, is there a way of cutting the 'history' record of all the individual edits that have gone on in the sandbox over the last few days down to just one single revision so that the article that was speedily deleted moves straight to the current version ? Diakonias (talk) 15:02, 22 December 2014 (UTC)

If someone would have read what they were deleting, they would have seen that that picture and text are from a newspaper in a public domain. I own the blog BTW. You guys should be more careful before deleting something that can't be restored.Keizers (talk) 14:24, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

Question about Page Deletion
Hi, Jim - you recently deleted the Auto Europe page [1] and I'm hoping you could let me know what the specific issues were with the page content and that you would temporarily reinstate it so that I could address those concerns and re-work the content, citing outside sources for information on the company and removing any "biased" content. I'd like to begin this process today if possible and would welcome your feedback so that the page can be a useful and unbiased resource. Thanks - AEJSH (talk) 16:24, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
Thank you for the thoughtful reply, Jim. I'll take all of your feedback to heart and cut out what is necessary and include third party sources for relevant information while avoiding promotional language. If I make these updates while adhering to all Wikipedia guidelines can I resubmit the article? Is there a way to request contributions from others when I do so? Thanks again -AEJSH (talk) 19:42, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
Hi, Jim - I've updated the page content in my sandbox in an effort to make sure it matches all of Wikipedia's quality guidelines. When you have a moment could you take a look and let me know if I need to make additional changes to have the page reinstated? If not what are the next steps I need to take to get this page back in its original URL. You can review HERE. Thank you! -AEJSH (talk) 22:21, 18 December 2014 (UTC)

Tata
Hi Jim,
I recently noticed that you have deleted my page on Tata Projects limited. Please note that after 3 months of intense work , I had finally got the approval. I had managed to wite it in a neutral fashion , amd It had gone officially live on the same day from the company I work. We are a part of the prestigious Tata Group in India and what we wrote was completely factual and non- promotional in nature. Therefore requesting to revert the dleteion and make the page go live again. We will continue to improve the page itself, but please do not delete this. We have other company with the tata group which have in the same manner written: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tata_Chemicals
Therefore humble request to please to undo the deleted page - we are ready to corporate with you to make the page. 06:52, 17 December 2014 Jimfbleak (talk | contribs) deleted page Tata Projects Limited (Multiple reasons: speedy deletion criteria A7, G11) Please redo the delete. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jiteshjacob (talk • contribs) 10:50, 22 December 2014 (UTC)
Hi Jim
Thanks for the prompt reply. I completely agree, but I am a bit new to Wikipedia articles creations and this being my first job - I was handed the task of creating the page for my company. The day the Tata Projects page was created, I had gone live with it, whereby now a total 2700 employees + our worldwide clients know that we have a Wikipedia page. A sudden incident like this has rattled the core of my department and I have been receiving flank from all sides for this matter. While I understand that as guardians/ admins of Wikipedia, you are able to monitor and see / delete pages that do not fit the criteria, but at least give us a warning something. Being in the marketing & advertising fraternity, a crisis such has this can make one lose a job. 06:52, 17 December 2014 Jimfbleak (talk | contribs) deleted page Tata Projects Limited (Multiple reasons: speedy deletion criteria A7, G11) Therefore from one professional to another, a request If you could resolve this matter. I am ready for corporation with you on this matter. Seeking your earnest reply & help in this case. Also a quick knowledge on the Tata Group for you in India: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tata_Group My company is one of the representative subsidiaries of this Group.Jiteshjacob (talk) 11:54, 22 December 2014 (UTC)

Altered speedy deletion rationale: Aarif Saifi (Saifi)
Hello Jimfbleak. I am just letting you know that I deleted Aarif Saifi (Saifi), a page you tagged for speedy deletion, under a different criterion from the one you provided, which doesn't fit the page in question. Thank you. PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 14:51, 23 December 2014 (UTC)
Article about QuestionHere
Hello Jim, I hope you are doing well. I noticed that you have deleted my article which was written to cover QuestionHere on Wikipedia. I understand from the reasons that article is appeared an advertisement to you, which is not the case. I have referred to many published articles on wikipedia prior to submit mine. I do understand the purpose of Wiki and for the article was not for advertisement purpose rather it was for those users who are interested to know about QuestionHere as a company. Request you to guide further on this. I dont want to face a permanent penalty
Between, Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

Ewan McLennan
Thanks Jim,
I'll try and rephrase further to avoid it seeming like an advert for Ewan. To be honest though, it may be difficult to find a negative review - but I'll try. As for notability, he ticks points 1,5,9,12 and possibly 11. He is a folk musician and as you may know, they seldom hit the charts in the UK, but the fact that he's had 3 albums on the Fellside label must mean something. I'd also have thought that his regular appearances in the BBC's Transatlantic Sessions with people like Jerry Donoghue and Aly Bain would add weight to his 'Notability'. As for "Bright Young Folk", it's quite a respected web site that gives reviews of (mainly young) folk musicians' concerts and albums. Click on the 'Artists' link and you'll see the kind of people they've interviewed and/or reviewed.
Leave it with me for a few days and I'll reword further.
Thanks again for your help and advice.
Regards, Dave

Hi Jim, and Happy New Year.
I've toned down some of the rhetoric in the description, and basically listed factual events, providing references to reviews of albums etc. Please take a look, and if you think it needs more, let me know. I've tried not to clutter the text with too many links to sites that don't carry much weight, but I'm sure I can find some more reviews, comments etc. As a cross-reference, take a look at the folk musician Sam Carter's page. His career is similar to Ewan's in that he won the BBC Horizon Award, appeared on BBC TV etc.
Thanks again for your help with this... project (as it's turned into).

- Jim, for 14 Jan, I had to squeeze the text down to about 1200 characters, and for 13 Jan, I tweaked the existing text a bit (was that yours or Gerda's?). Was there anything left out that ought to be there? Also, the first sentence ("... National Nature Reserve is [a] ... national nature reserve") isn't working for me. If it happens to be England's largest nature reserve, that would get rid of enough of the overlap to work. - Dank (push to talk) 20:01, 28 December 2014 (UTC)

I hope your year is concluding well. Now that I have gotten a bit more experience with seeing featured article candidacies through successfully, I have renominated She Has a Name for featured status here. I greatly appreciated your comments at the FAC for the 2012 tour of She Has a Name article, and I thought you might be interested in contributing to the current discussion. Any constructive feedback you have time to provide would be a great help.

Jim, would you be able to email me the text for the Ascension frigatebird from HBW alive? (Does the breeding female have any white on the breast or belly?) Does HBW alive have a general description of the Fregatidae? If it does, could you send it as well?
I listen to Tweet of the day on Radio 4 - and usually look up the articles on Wikipedia. I seem to be the only editor to do so - or at least the only one to actually edit the articles. On Christmas day the featured bird was the Christmas shearwater and not the Christmas frigatebird. Season's greetings Aa77zz (talk) 22:18, 28 December 2014 (UTC)

User:Wasif0909
Re your deletion of User:Wasif0909 with the rationale "U5: misuse of Wikipedia as a web host". The page was actually a draft article, so I don't see how that can be a misuse of Wikipedia. It is true that the article is also in mainspace and is being discussed at AFD, but that discussion is not over, and may well end up deciding to move the page to user or draft space. It is certainly a long way from declaring it a hoax. SpinningSpark 12:06, 30 December 2014 (UTC)
- User pages aren't the best place for drafts, true, but lots of people do it, including some long established editors. Whatever, it's not a valid speedy deletion rationale and people can do that if they like. Nor is the fact that a mainspace page exists a deletion rationale, speedy or otherwise, editors are free to create new drafts of existing pages if they wish, and frequently do so. My concern here is that a newbie editor is being bullied with multiple deletion requests both here and at Commons. It is perfectly possible that their editing is good faith, and it may even turn out that the subject is notable and verifiable. Give the editor some AGF and let them decide if they want the draft gone. SpinningSpark 17:45, 30 December 2014 (UTC)
