Hi Chris,

Will you join me in re-constructing the Request for comments before opening it up to vote?

(please say yes, please say yes, please say yes.)

--Potguru (talk) 15:40, 23 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi User:Potguru! Firstly, I'm very happy to help as best I can, but we should discuss what you mean by "reconstruct" first. We need to be EXTREMELY careful as involved editors how we participate in the discussion and about what actions we take. Participating in the polling, and adding comments is fine. As is minor reformatting of the the discussion to help clarity and accuracy. It is important to let the process take place of it's own accord (including having enough time pass, which can be up to 30 days). There are certain things we can do, and certain things we can't. Also, in an RfC, voting happens immediately. This is what is taking place now in the "Comments Welcomed Here" section. The "Discussion of Above Comments" section is where commentary on the RfC and responses are being posted.
For an example of another RfC, check: Infobox RfC, Religion in infoboxes
A couple of things to note about RfCs:
From Wikpedia Policys and Guidelines, Good Practice for Proposals: "Ending a discussion requires careful evaluation of the responses to determine the consensus. This does not require the intervention of an administrator, but may be done by any sufficiently experienced independent editor (an impartial editor not involved in the discussion) who is familiar with all of the policies and guidelines that relate to the proposal."
And also There are several ways that RfCs end (emphasis added to the applicable item):
  1. The question may be withdrawn by the poster (e.g., if the community's response became obvious very quickly).
  2. It may be moved to another dispute resolution forum, such as mediation.
  3. The RfC participants can agree to end it at any time.
  4. It can be formally closed by any uninvolved editor.
Please review and we'll proceed as appropriate. :) Hope all is well!

Wrongly Edited

Dear Chrisw80,

My intention was not to edit/remove your comment but I wanted to put my point in the discussion; however, when I edited that page and added my comment, it put "Draftify & Weak Keep" automatically!!

Thenafter I tried to remove it but it was designed by computer I guess so I wasn't aware about it.

On the next stage, I kept a note in my talk page which you can see in history of edits if possible. It is as below:

"Whatever changes I have done till the time; they were approved by editors from wiki chat section; An Admin named MajoraWP insisted me to add citing into my articles and interview column which I did via adding 25+ references with in total 40+ references for the page.

Thenafter another admin visits the page and removes that table itself saying that those sources are not falling under 'noticeability'

While discussing with another admin named 'ScorpiouS' regarding the same; he accpeted that MajoraWP might not be familier with all policies!

So in this scenario; I guess there is fault of one of your admin who tried to help me out which is a great thing but due to his/her lack of knowledge, my article and interview section has been deleted.

NOT ONLY THAT BUT CURRENTLY THIS ARTICLE HAS BEEN REQUESTED TO DELETE WHERE IT DOESN'T CONTAIN ANY INFORMATION WHICH IS NOT INDICATING NOTICEABILITY!! THUS IT WILL BE COMPLETELY UNFAIR TO REMOVE THIS PAGE WITHOUT AS THERE IS NO FAULT OF THE CREATOR!

I am still trying to make it more appropriate according to wiki stds that's what I can say while creating this page

-PalaVernier

Palavernier (talk) 05:34, 6 February 2016 (UTC)" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_deletion/Abhinay_Banker

So it was lack of knowledge from my side and I don't wanted to edit your comment at all.

Once again, many thanks to support my argument and I hope this page will not be deleted as haven't breach any policies while drafting it.

-PalaVernier Palavernier (talk) 14:10, 8 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello PalaVernier, what MajoraWP, ScorpiuS, and myself have all tried to convey is that the sources must be reliable and independent (WP:RS). Also, for biographies of living persons, there must be comprehensive coverage from these types of sources (WP:BLP). I believe that this is the cause of confusion. Here are some of the unsuitable sources from the Abhinay Banker article:
The reviewers see these poor sources (from Wikipedia's perspective) and have legitimate concerns. Sources like this appear to be suitable coverage, however there are very few of these in the article:
All in all, the more I look at the article and the sources, the less I think that Abhinay Banker is notable per Wikipedia guidelines. I would ask that you please find more reliable sources like the Indian Express source that discuss Mr. Banker and his work in detail. I hope this helps clarify things for you. Chrisw80 (talk) 16:50, 8 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I saw that you have tagged the article as an advert. Can you please mention as to what all section/areas seems like an advert so that i can look into those. Lakun.patra (talk) 17:08, 11 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Lakun.patra, thanks for your message. Sure, my concerns are:
  • There's a lot of overlinking in the lead. Frankly, the whole sentence "The company deals in e-commerce, mobile applications, cloud computing, digital transformation, business intelligence, data analytics, testing, Agile software development, infrastructure, EAI and ERP, with more than 290 clients and offices in 14 countries." seems complete overkill to me.
  • Far too much content is sourced from the company's own website or their press releases.
Hope this helps! Chrisw80 (talk) 17:22, 11 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback granted

Hi Waggie. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Coffee // have a cup // beans // 01:38, 17 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of Edit warring noticeboard discussion

Information icon Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion involving you at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring regarding a possible violation of Wikipedia's policy on edit warring. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jewjoo (talkcontribs) 09:02, 17 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

No need to open another noticeboard discussion about this.. The admins will examine my behaviour carefully as well. If I have erred with regards to Wikipedia guidelines or policies, they will not hesitate to let me know and I will learn from the experience. It's actually stated clearly at the top of the noticeboard page that editors submitting reports will have their own actions scrutinized as well. Chrisw80 (talk) 09:39, 17 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you!

(Barnstar moved to userpage)

Exazonk, thank you for the barnstar and you're welcome! With a charged and controversial topic such as this, I find it especially important to verify citations and sources. If I had really found it necessary, there are plenty of options for dispute resolution available to all editors. In this case, the other editor was actually hurting their case by their behaviour, so I was not that troubled. If you're not familiar with those dispute resolution options, please see WP:DR. Again, if you're not familiar (forgive me if you are), one very important thing to note in dispute resolution discussions is to make a distinction between article content disputes and editor conduct disputes. Getting the two confused can escalate matters (and not in anyone's favor). Also of note is that if I had not remained calm, the outcome of the situation could have been very different. Go browse WP:ANI if you ever want to see how some of these things can go horribly wrong. Best wishes! Chrisw80 (talk) 11:29, 20 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The Analysis section says "Subheadings use 1662 Book of Common Prayer (BCP) (see above)" so I changed the text to be consistent with the 1662 text a few lines above (the middle one), which has a source already. I thought my comment briefly said that. Rerevert if you wish or leave it as a mixture of 1662 and 1928 - your choice --86.185.237.167 (talk) 00:46, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Die! Die! Die! url

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your response to my query re the URL http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Die!_Die!_Die!

Yes, the page loads fine for me too, but it is the linking from elsewhere that fails, due to the exclamation marks.

Manually altering the URL to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Die%21_Die%21_Die%21 every time anyone wants to insert a link to the page doesn't seem like an ideal solution.

Regards,

Lee McLean o Otepoti 21:40, 23 February 2016 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pliny o Otepoti (talkcontribs)

Hello Pliny o Otepoti, thanks for the response. Changing the title of a page is relatively easy, however changing the title to create the URL you're asking for would violation Wikipedia's article naming policy. Please see WP:NAME. There are some symbols that aren't allowed, but an exclamation is not one of them. There are a variety of other article topics that have exclamations at the end of their names, for instance:
However, giving this some thought, I realized that a redirect would fit within guidelines and I note that there is already a redirect in place at:
Perhaps you should point to that instead from your external sites? I hope this helps. Chrisw80 (talk) 21:51, 23 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, thanks Chris. I've got lots to learn  :)

Koffucha

Thanks, as I mentioned, I knew how to redirect, but the way you did it the author has no credit for writing about koffucha. WannaBeEditor (talk) 05:03, 25 February 2016 (UTC) Hi WannaBeEditor, I see. Well, credit for authorship is handling in our Page Histories. Please remember that Wikipedia is for everyone. I'm not sure what kind of credit you're looking for, but perhaps it's not like what you think it is. Would it make sense to you to create only a part of an article and then expect credit for the whole thing when you copied most of it from another page? If you create a section on the Kombucha article about Koffucha (providing reliable sources, of course), you will be credited in the page history with creating that section, then others will be able to edit it to improve it if they like. Please see WP:OWN for more information on this. Thanks for replying, please let me know if you have any more questions, I hope I answered this one to your satisfaction. Chrisw80 (talk) 05:27, 25 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I am not the author of the Koffucha article, I just patrolled it. I wanted to redirect it to Kombucha while maintaining its revision history so that the original author can take credit for it. WannaBeEditor (talk) 05:33, 25 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Well, there wasn't much there to take credit for, but someone can still get to the page history there if they bypass the redirect. You're welcome to invite the author in question to create the section instead, or pull the content from the history, move it to Kombucha, and credit the author in the talk page on Kombucha if you like. Just please make sure it's sourced! :) Chrisw80 (talk) 05:36, 25 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I have already entered Koffucha as a subtitle, and included proper references. WannaBeEditor (talk) 05:41, 25 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Further to your message about an edit I made to The Big Bang (Doctor Who), this was not a test and I have no idea what could have caused you to think so, especially in view of my previous edit to this page and the summaries provided. Schott AG - Rework of intro section and your recent rollback

Hi Chrisw80 - I don't see how the reduction of content violates the neutral position directive in any way and disagree with the decision. Actually all information present in my recent edit has been there before. I just regrouped it and cut the mixture of historic and current information to streamline the intro. It would be helpful to know how you justify the rollback. On which specific findings did you base your decision? Ah and I had to reregister a neutral, personalized account since my old Account Schott got blocked due to company name restrictions on the english wikipedia. Nevertheless, I would love to get into that discussion with you, since I just cannot see a violation here on my part that would justify a rollback. I carefully read the wikipedia instructions on what to do and how to do it right. So I am really looking dorward to your response and hopefully we can work this out. Best regards, Ffedit (talk)

Jonathan Rosand Draft

Nhv2001 (talk) 17:00, 1 March 2016 (UTC)Dear Chris,[reply]

Thank you so much for reviewing my recent draft article. I appreciate your comments and will attempt to add more secondary sources. However, I do feel that my subject's notability was sufficiently established. The notability page to which you directed me lists 9 criteria, any one of which is sufficient to establish notability. Criterion 5 provides that (1) a "named chair appointment" at (2) a "major institution of higher education and research" establishes notability. In the second line of my article, I state, with corroborating source, that Jonathan Rosand "holds the J.P. Kistler Endowed Chair in Neurology at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH)." According to Wikipedia article on Massachusetts General Hospital, MGH is "the original and largest teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School" and "conducts the largest hospital-based research program in the world." Does this not establish both that (1) Dr. Rosand holds an endowed chair and (2) he does so at a major institution of higher education and research?

Would it be sufficient to replace my current reference to Dr. Rosand's faculty page with a link to the MGH website awarding his current endowed chair position?

I would appreciate any additional input you have that would allow my article to meet Wikipedia's requirements.

Thank you very much! Neil

Help regarding rejected article about the HighStep System Hello Chrisw80, First of all thank you for your feedback on my Wikipedia article about the HighStep System. As you can see, I have changed it very much since the first draft, adding the technical explanation about how the system works. The problem at the moment is that, while I can find sources that talk about it in general, the details are only contained in the book cited in the External resources, which, as I understood, is not a good reference because it was published by the company itself. Is there any other way in which you could suggest me to structure the article in order for it to respect the guidelines of Wikipedia? Any help would be much appreciated! Greetings User:Chrisw80,
I appreciate your review of this article, and I especially appreciate the details that you left to explain your conclusion.
As you probably know, I have put forth quite a bit of time and effort on this article, so it was nice to have you, and @Onel5969:, and @SwisterTwister: take time to review it.
I also appreciate the invitation by User:Onel5969 to the WP:Teahouse. I didn't get a response there, but I found the Teahouse to be interesting and educational.
A] At this time, I'm thinking the article is just a WP:SNOWBALL, and it appears that any further effort would be a waste of everyone's time.
B] However, I don't know if I should request deletion of the article, or if I should just let it set, hoping that a magic 'Citation' will appear, which seems quite unlikely.
C] And, I'm also unsure if I should delete the subject reviews from my talk page.
If you guys don't mind, I'd like to ask your advise about these matters, because I'm not sure what to do at this point.
Thanks to all of you! I do appreciate your time and your helpful consideration. Education is a good thing! :-)

March 2016

Information icon Hello Chrisw80. Thanks for patrolling new pages – it's a very important task! I'm just letting you know, however, that you shouldn't tag pages as lacking context (CSD A1), content (CSD A3), or significance (CSD A7) moments after they are created, as you did at Krishna Hackster. It's best to wait at least 10–15 minutes for more content to be added if the page is very short, and the articles should not be marked as patrolled. Tagging such pages in a very short space of time may drive away well-meaning contributors, which is not good for Wikipedia. Attack pages (G10), blatant nonsense (G1), copyright violations (G12) and pure vandalism/blatant hoaxes (G3) should of course be tagged and deleted immediately. Thanks.Template:Z149 IagoQnsi (talk) 05:32, 9 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi IagoQnsi, thanks for your warning template. I normally do wait, but my research found these: Krishna Kumar Mandal and Krishna hackster. As it had been created and speedied a couple times already, I was a little impatient. Chrisw80 (talk) 05:40, 9 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I saw Krishna Kumar Mandal, but I didn't realized they'd made another page of the exact same page. Good catch. -IagoQnsi (talk) 05:42, 9 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. I'll readily admit I was a little too quick on the trigger, even so. :) Best wishes! Chrisw80 (talk) 05:47, 9 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Reference Fixed

Hi Chris. Some references on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DMACK were broken and i fixed them for a friend Kkimbero. I undid the last edit that Kkimbero did because the last edit she did made things worse. I made an additional edit and you can see that the references are now fixed. I hope this is OK. In any case, please do not make any further changes to this page without contacting Kkimbero and myself. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sca1111 (talkcontribs)

Hello Sca1111, I reverted your edit because you broke a link in two places - you changed the URL for "www.newsandstar.co.uk" to "www.news & star.co.uk" in two places. Your additional edit did not make the same mistake, thankfully. Regarding contacting one of you before editing this article in future, kindly review Ownership of content. Please understand that I don't need to consult with you or Kkimbero's before editing any article. If I edit this article in future and you disagree with my edits, you are perfectly welcome to discuss the matter with me either here or on the article talk page. All articles are for everyone to edit, as long as the edits are constructive. Also, please remember to "sign" your talk page comments with ~~~~. Best wishes! Dear Chrisw80-

regarding the article www.wikipedia.org/wiki/DMACK

On 10 March, 2016, both you and a friend of mine who knows coding made edits to my references area on my above written article.

I believe now all references correctly link to their sources. However at least four or five are missing, is I had a new footnote number four each person in the key personnel section.

I don't know where they went, and I don't want to be busted by a Wikipediain, but I am a little at a loss of what to do.

I'm going out of town for a couple of days and will not have computer access, and I do not wish to return to find my whole article has been deleted.

Please, please if you can help me know what to to prevent deletion and fix footnotes.

I am greatly appreciative.

Hello Kkimbero, I will look over your article when i get home later and see how it stands. If it looks in danger of deletion, i will preserve the article as a draft to avoid deletion. If memory serves, though, it didn't look as though that was a concern. Best wishes. Chrisw80 (talk) 20:45, 11 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Schottky Junction Solar Cells requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect from the article namespace to a different namespace except the Category, Template, Wikipedia, Help, or Portal namespaces.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
