Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference
Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.
On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true
. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false
in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.
For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.
Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 19:06, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Removal of Non-free Images from User:Majormax/Drafts/Jeffrey story
Hello, Majormax. This is a note to let you know that I've taken down some images from your subpage /Drafts/Jeffrey story. Under the non-free content criteria, non-free/fair use images are not allowed to be used outside of articles, even in article drafts. Sorry for the inconvenience! Orphaned non-free image File:1878 12 18 Three terraces.gif
Thanks for uploading File:1878 12 18 Three terraces.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Hi Majormax, I'm new to this so forgive any mistakes. The image of the Calcutta and Ocean you've used on the Ocean (convict transport ship) page (and its also on the HMS Calcutta (1795)) page is not in the public domain. The image has been removed from the originating website, and the painter Dacre Smyth died in 2008. Hope this doesn't cause any inconvenience. Johnhorton379 (talk) 10:30, 28 October 2011 (UTC)

G'day Majormax, I notice that your RMC infobox is now missing an image due to the non-free rule. The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Australian contribution to UNTAG. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. 17 Construction
G'day, Majormax, I've probably stretched my sources to the limit on this one now. I asked Anotherclown to help out too, and he's added a bit as well. Unfortunately, there are still a few "citation needed" tags, though, including a few in the Namibia section. Do you have anything that could be added for these? Also, I wonder if you have any images that could be added? It would be great to get a couple in to break up the text a little. Another issue that I see, is that in the infobox it says that the squadron was part of the 1st Construction Regiment from 1977. I haven't been able to find a citation for this yet. If you have anything, would you mind adding it to the "Re-raised in Sydney" section? Cheers, AustralianRupert (talk) 01:08, 25 August 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for your help! Will do, I will keep looking for material and will sort out Namibia. Pretty well exhausted Google. Good job finding Vol 4 of the corps history. I was in the unit when it was part of 1 Const Regt so I know for a fact that was the Orbat at the time. The unit is going to get an 'Honour Distinction' next year so it will get a bit of press. AWHS (talk) 05:22, 25 August 2012 (UTC)
- G'day again, you are doing a great job adding more references to this article, but I'm a little concerned about this change [1]. Some of the citations that are used in the list couldn't cover what they've been put against. For instance the Grantham 1978 source is listed for things are now listed as happening the 1980s. I think that this is ultimately my fault because of the way I included the refs in the previous version. I hadn't realised that I'd bundled them together like that, but your change has highlighted it to me. Anyway, are you able to rectify this? A couple of further points. I'm not sure that presenting the information in list form like that is the best way, particularly as the rest of the article is written in full sentences. Additionally, I would also suggest that the co-ordinates in text aren't really doing much. That is just my opinion and you are welcome to disregard if you see fit, as it is not based on any policy. Anyway, I will leave it up to you as I have done all I wanted to on the article. Keep up the good work. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 04:12, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
- Hello fellow Sapper, I defer to your expertise in wikiland. What do you think now? I was in the Sqn in the late 80's so am still looking for refs from about that time. Have removed coords as you suggested. Looking for photos next.AWHS (talk) 02:19, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
- G'day, I think it looks quite good. Thanks for tweaking it. Images would be a great addition, but the issue will be the difficulty of obtaining some that can be freely licenced. Wikipedia has quite complex policies on this, which essentially boil down to the requirement for images to be "public domain" in the US. This can mean that even if an image is copyright expired in Australia, they can apparently still be copyrighted in the US, so they can't be used unless an air tight "fair use" rationale can be written. In regards to fair use rationales, there is a small but vociferous section of Wikipedia that essentially argues that almost all fair use rationales are null and void. As such, for some articles, it won't be possible to get many, or even any, images. It can be most disheartening. If you do find something, though, please feel free to send me a message and I will try to help work out the licencing. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 07:33, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited 17th Construction Squadron (Australia), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page School of Military Engineering (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Military history project membership
G'day AWHS, I'm not sure if you are already a member or not, but if you aren't I'd like to encourage you to become an official member of the Military history project. If you wish to join, you can do so by adding your name here: Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Members. One of the benefits of signing up is that you will receive the project's monthly newsletter – The Bugle – and you can also vote in the project's current co-ordinator election. Of course, there is no requirement for you to sign up, and if you chose not to, you are still able to access the project's assessment and review areas and your articles will continue to be well received. Thanks for your continued work on 17th Construction Squadron, by the way. Have a good weekend. Cheers, AustralianRupert (talk) 08:58, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

File copyright problem with File:UNTAG Logo 1989-90 Low resolution.png
Thank you for uploading File:UNTAG Logo 1989-90 Low resolution.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. Australian contribution to UNTAG GA nomination
Hi Max, I've reviewed this article and my comments are at: Talk:Australian contribution to UNTAG/GA1. Regards, Nick-D (talk) 07:10, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
- Congratulations, I've just passed this nomination. As you may have noticed, there aren't many photos of the Australian military during this era on Wikimedia Commons, so if you have any other good photos which you would be interested in uploading that would be excellent. Regards, Nick-D (talk) 10:18, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks very much, am working on the photos. The army lost almost all of my photos, we were told to send our photos back to Regimental HQ, and like a good soldier I did. Never saw them ever again :-( But others were less trusting so I am slowly weaning the photos out of some of the other guys (mostly via facebook).AWHS (talk)
- OK, excellent. I'm particularly interested in finding a better photo for Australian Defence Force#Defence of Australia era - the one which is there is OK, but it doesn't really depict anything in particular (I'm planning to update this article, and swap some of the photos around). Regards, Nick-D (talk) 10:36, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

G'day Majormax, sorry about the length of the ACR comments, I probably should done the c/e myself but by the time it got long I was already started, I hadn't checked how long you've been on WP, etc etc. Excuses, excuses... Bottom line, it does need quite a bit of pretty minor work, mostly MOS and grammar. Great article though, content, structure and detail all excellent. And I really enjoyed reading it. A few familiar names among the officers. Great to see you working on Gingerbeer articles. Regards, Peacemaker67 (send... over) 08:21, 20 April 2013 (UTC)
- Hello Peacemaker, Very appreciative of your efforts. I have done a few articles now, but this is the first that has been through the GA/A-Class process. There is no doubt that this is now a far better article thanks to the efforts of many. My editing skills are not the best, so I am grateful for your comments. It has become quite a large article and there is plenty of opportunity for improvement. When I started this article I had no idea that there was such a thing as a 'Good Article' so I am learning on the job. I have read this so many times that I don't see the errors. Your comments are excellent, all of them. Regards AWHS (talk) 10:47, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. Disambiguation link notification for August 19
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Beaufort Mosman Hunter Palmer, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Gold Coast and Bouganville (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi, tks for your work on this article, hope you don't mind me tweaking things afterwards... Generally History sections go under L2 headings and then L3 subheaders are used to divide things beneath that; also the consensus among editors is that "World War II" or "Second World War" are equally fine for Commonwealth military articles (as long as one is used consistently within the one article) but "World War 2" is not generally used. - Thanks, Edit away please. There is a lot of material on 5 Sqn in the war that could enhance this article. I was going to expand the "World War II" section in coming days.AWHS (talk) 10:25, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
