Template:NoBracketBot

Edit

If I edit Wikipedia:In the news/Candidates/Archives so it would be easier to read like this (I don't know how to change the width), would that broke the bot? Hddty. (talk) 08:04, 25 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It wouldn't break the bot, but the bot would overwrite your edit. Anomie 19:09, 26 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

CAT:EDITREQ (PERTable Updater) Error 28-SEP-2018

The Bot is registering an error with this task. FYI  Spintendo  09:51, 28 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

UPDATE: The issue appears to be resolved and the Bot reports its status on this task as OK. Thank you  Spintendo  21:56, 28 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Strange article identification

On the table for semi-protected edit requests [1], the bot correctly linked the edit request (Talk:Bigg Boss (Hindi TV series)#editsemiprotected), but linked a different article (Bigg Boss), listing it as not protected (which is correct for Bigg Boss) and showing the protection log for Bigg Boss. There was a move, but it was over a month ago and well before the edit request. LittlePuppers (talk) 23:54, 29 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) @LittlePuppers: The first parameter to {{edit semi-protected}} is the name of the page to be edited. In this edit, the person making the edit somehow set this to "Big Boss", and the bot correctly worked out that it was not protected. -- John of Reading (talk) 03:22, 30 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, thanks John of Reading. I'm not sure how I missed that, I should have looked into that more. To be quite honest from what I saw I didn't expect much from the complete lack of content. Thanks again. LittlePuppers (talk) 04:38, 30 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Pulled a ref with the same name from a different page?

Just wondering if this is a bug or something but in this edit the bot "rescued" an "orphaned reference" from a completely different page because they were both named "2.02"? TheDoctorWho (talk) 01:57, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It's intended behavior when the reference name can't be found anywhere in the article's own history, approved in Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/AnomieBOT 6. The theory is that people copy content between related articles, so if exactly one linked article has a reference of the same name it's reasonably likely it was copied in that manner. It does skip certain vague reference names, including the ":1" style used as a default by VE.
In this case, it found the link in the edit summary of this edit. If the bot got it wrong, feel free to remove or replace it. Anomie 12:52, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Got it, thanks for the explanation. TheDoctorWho (talk) 04:05, 9 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sarah Pearce

Hello Anomie! AnomieBOT added a reference to a previous speedy delete decision to the page I created for Sarah Pearce. I've checked the discussion on this and the speedy deletion was for a different person called Sarah Pearce who appears to be based in Auckland. I've created a page for Sarah Pearce based in Southampton. Is it appropriate for me to remove that section on the talk page or could you? (I haven't left a comment on a talk page before and I'm not sure I know how to sign. Apologies if this doesn't work...) Clio987 (talk) 18:39, 5 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Clio987 Yes per the notice on the top on the top of the talk page: If you are here because AnomieBOT added {{old AfD multi}} to an article when the old AfD was about a different person with the same name, just remove it. The bot has no way to tell whether it's the same person or a different one. Galobtter (pingó mió) 18:44, 5 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Galobtter Thank you - the notice didn't appear on the page but I'll just go ahead and delete the olf AfD note. Much appreciated! Clio987 (talk) 18:51, 5 October 2018 (UTC)Clio987[reply]
Galobtter Sorry - I now know you mean this talk page and not the Sarah Pearce one. I didn't know it was referred to as 'old AfD multi' so didn't spot at the top of this page. Thanks again! Clio987 (talk) 18:53, 5 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Creating red linked redirects

I'm probably missing something really obvious but on 1 October the bot created this redirect. But the actual article was not created until 6 October. Why does it appear that a red linked redirect was created? CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 01:06, 7 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@CambridgeBayWeather: The article was created on 1 October according to the creation log. It has been moved, cut and paste moved, and histmerged since. — JJMC89(T·C) 04:29, 7 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I knew I was missing ssomething. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 09:51, 7 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

TemplateSubster: Template:Webbref has too many transclusions

In an effort to prevent disruption, I refuse to subst templates that have over 100 transclusions unless they are listed at User:AnomieBOT/TemplateSubster force. Please either edit the template to remove it from Category:Wikipedia templates to be automatically substituted, manually subst the existing transclusions, or add it to User:AnomieBOT/TemplateSubster force to let me know it is OK to subst them. When you have fixed this issue, please change the section title (e.g. append " - Fixed") or remove this section completely. I will repost the notice if the page is still broken or is re-broken. Thanks! AnomieBOT 02:28, 9 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Strange edit summary

Normally the bracketed part is not there: [2] Modernponderer (talk) 16:47, 10 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The bracketed part means it was processed because it's transcluded from another page. "BRFA55" references WP:Bots/Requests for approval/AnomieBOT 55. Anomie 19:00, 10 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I did guess that. It was the transclusion part I had no idea about, and didn't think to look into. Maybe the transclusion thing should be made clearer than referencing a request for approval though, especially when the bot doesn't normally do that in its edit summaries? Modernponderer (talk) 10:40, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
On the other hand, how many people actually care about how AnomieBOT decided to process the page? Anomie 00:48, 15 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Article is about Robert Spillane, and American Football player, not the actor who's page was previously deleted. The current page, Robert Spillane, is an American Football linebacker who recently appeared in a National Football League game for the Tennessee Titans, making him notable per WP:NGRIDIRON. Best, GPL93 (talk) 00:20, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

To quote the notice at the top of this page and included in the editnotice:

If you are here because AnomieBOT added {{old AfD multi}} to an article when the old AfD was about a different person with the same name, just remove it. The bot has no way to tell whether it's the same person or a different one.

Anomie 12:29, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

TemplateSubster removed a transclusion of deleted template with an incorrect edit summary (apparently)

Special:Diff/863634224 had a confusing or plain misleading edit summary, although this was a result of Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2018 April 7#Template:Incomplete. 84.250.17.211 (talk) 20:03, 19 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Someone made the template subst to nothing and then had the bot subst it. While the end result was a bit confusing, there was no bot issue there. Anomie 17:40, 21 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Appears to completely screw-up template

Hi, appears to be multiple problems with this change. I have reverted for now. Keith D (talk) 17:41, 22 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like GIGO to me. The template is doing something weird to have different output when substed versus non-substed, and it looks like the substed version is weird and somewhat broken (e.g. the deadurl bit and general differences in rendering) on top of some weirdness in that particular invocation (such as using both |titel= and |title=). Anomie 23:55, 22 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Needs to change months

Hi, another problem with this edit leaving with an invalid date error. The BOT needs to capitalise the month in the dates of the substituted templates. Keith D (talk) 18:09, 22 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) @Keith D: This is down to the coding of the template. As far as I can see, it is coded to change "september" to "September" when called but not when substed. Wikid77 (talk · contribs) may be able to comment. -- John of Reading (talk) 18:51, 22 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Fixing Webbref for subst: I am fixing Template:Webbref to generate same output when wp:subst'ed, such as deadurl=yes (not "yesyes"). Sorry I had forgotten Bots which run subst'ed cites, so I had imagined users would check output when "carefully" hand-substing the other-language cites. -Wikid77 (talk) 00:29, 23 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Fixed Webbref to subst IABot duplicate parameters: @Keith D and John of Reading: OK, I have fixed Webbref to handle AnomieBot IABot duplicate parameters, such as added "accessdate=" will skip Swedish equivalent "hämtdatum=" date. Likewise "archiveurl=" or "archivedate=" (as added by IABot) will skip Swedish "arkivurl=" or "arkivdatum=" as being overridden by IABot's generated equivalent parameters. I generally dislike the tactic where some parameters will auto-eclipse others, but these Bot updates are overwhelming, and so Webbref will attempt to autofix for duplicates, by treating AnomieBot IABot data as being more recent than the Swedish data parameters. Beware these Bots (such as User:InternetArchiveBot) can generate hundreds and hundreds of cite errors per month, or per week, because of the "robot reasoning" as when automobile robots in the 1980s had "robots painting robots". It goes with the territory, that our templates must be strengthened to become "bot-tolerant" to autofix cites which have peculiar parameters. Also, I am upgrading Webbref to subst Swedish month names translated to English, such as "juni" to "June" or "september" to "September". -Wikid77 (talk) 02:29, corrected 19:07, 23 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Add R template with TemplateTalkRedirectCreator

Would you consider having AnomieBOT add {{R from remote page}} when creating redirects under the TemplateTalkRedirectCreator task? --Bsherr (talk) 01:52, 1 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Should we worry about flooding Category:Redirects from remote talk pages with doc subpages so any human-applied members are lost in the flood? Anomie 11:41, 1 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Good question. Based on the documentation, no. Certainly to the extent the purpose of the project is to categorize redirects between printworthy and unprintworthy, the automated versus manual distinction wouldn't be relevant. The redirect template could always be edited to put the standard template subpages into a subcategory for convenience of categorization, but again, it seems to me that the distinction is one of classification by purpose or target and not by whether automatically or manually created. --Bsherr (talk) 12:15, 1 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please disable this bot from making new month categories beginning with Category:Unreviewed new articles as Template:New unreviewed article is going to be deleted. Thanks. Pkbwcgs (talk) 17:24, 7 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The bot creates monthly subcategories for categories that are in Category:Wikipedia maintenance categories sorted by month. Delete Category:Unreviewed new articles or remove it from that category and the bot won't find it anymore. Anomie 00:15, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

what was the reason for the page being deleted?

manunited20 19;31,08 November 2018 (UTC)

Manunited20, because an admin deleted Mike Chang (fitness trainer) and page name you provide redirects to Mike Chang (fitness trainer) Hhkohh (talk) 08:37, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
And at the top of this page, you can see why bot deleted redirect. Hhkohh (talk) 08:39, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@ Hhkohh do you know why the page was deleted? am not great with Wikipedia but I did create that page years ago.

Thank you manunited20 19;45,08 November 2018 (UTC)

Fixing reference errors in Influence of French on English

Have a look at Special:Diff/869959035/869966828 in Influence of French on English. Manually fixed in Special:Diff/870101855/870101993. Sam Sailor 11:29, 22 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Then it's a good think AnomieBOT didn't put one there. It just substed the {{welcome}} for you, per the community consensus that that template should always be substituted. Anomie 12:29, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Galobtter: Hello. I feel that there is consensus for this due to Wikipedia_talk:Teahouse#Substing_Wikipedia:Teahouse/AfC_Invitation_and_Wikipedia:Teahouse/Invitation. I do, on reflection, think that I should have waited for the RfC to be closed, so support your reversion until the RfC is closed (or if it closes as to not substitute). Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard

I added two sections in this article, referencing to a blog by Dawn Turner. I often quote Ms Turner due to her style and sober content. I did not see anything promotional in it.
