Featured portal tips
Please add any tips here on how this page can be improved to Featured portal status. Thanks. Rfrisbietalk 18:19, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

A few suggestions:
- Selected picture should be resized, or placed in left-hand column if you don't want to resize. On my computer with Firefox, it looks really distorted and extends way out of the box parameters.
- Things you can do-Make a template for that and follow a format similarly to to Template:Bizetasks.
- You should also have a link for other users to make suggestions for future featured articles. Also required is an archive for DYK, featured picture, featured article, and featured breed.
- I don't know if the purge button is really necessary. It's just my opinion, but it just appears redundant since there already is a purge at the bottom of the portal.
Overall, it looks great so far. =) A few minor tweaks and it can make it to FP. Nishkid64 21:49, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
Selected breed format
I've noticed that on subpage 21 and after the "read more" link floats in the image unless the image is resized. Any way to fix that? Also, what about dropping "the (breed) is a breed of dog" part. Because of the context it seems kind of redundant to me. --Pharaoh Hound (talk) 20:20, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
- Oops, forget that thing about the floating text, I was looking at it on the subpage rather than on the main portal page. --Pharaoh Hound (talk) 20:22, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
Okay, one fix down. ;-) I also like the idea of trimming the wording. Rfrisbietalk 20:34, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
- Great, I'll start the re-wording. --Pharaoh Hound (talk) 20:36, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
DYK criteria
One of the members of WikiProject Dogs has expressed interest in what the criteria for DYK inclusion are, and I can't find any specific info on the nominations page. It might be useful to define what the criteria for inclusion are there. Thanks. Badbilltucker 17:27, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
Selected breed criteria
Since there's no defined criteria for selected breeds, I though I would suggest two:
- No stubs
- Good photo (which I would define as being similar to this: undistracting background, the dog "pops" nicely out of the photo and is the centre of attention)
Unfortunately, the "no stubs" requirement would disqualify the miniature australian shepherd, but I'm sure it will be easy to find a replacement breed. --Pharaoh Hound (talk) 12:35, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
Of interest to Wikipedia Dog Portal
Contributors to the Wikipedia Dog Portal should be informed about a blog post which is highly critical of some Wikipedia dog pages. The blog raises issues we may need to address: http://sruv-pitbulls.blogspot.com/2011/08/wikipedia.html This note is also posted to the WikiProject Dogs page. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.127.255.205 (talk) 03:31, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
Parti-colored?
What is "parti-colored coat" regarding dogs? I see this referred to on the article for a breed but the only definition I can find of parti-colored is brightly colored. Can you tell me a dog breed where this is the standard coloring and not just a variation? Thanks! Liz Read! Talk! 20:56, 25 August 2013 (UTC)
Dogs in Film
I was surprised to see extensive articles on Wolves in Film, Coyotes in Film, other animals in film, but the one for Dogs in Film, which should be enormous, is just pitiful. It's a subsection of another article. I think an entire article devoted to this is warranted. Liz Read! Talk! 16:25, 7 September 2013 (UTC)

WikiProject Portals is back!
The project was rebooted and completely overhauled on April 17th, 2018. Its goals are to revitalize the entire portal system, make building and maintaining portals easier, support the ongoing improvement of portals and the editors dedicated to this, and design the portals of the future.
As of May 2nd, 2018, membership is at 60 editors, and growing. You are welcome to join us.
There are design initiatives for revitalizing the portals system as a whole, and for improving each component of portals. So far, 2 new dynamic components have been developed: Template:Transclude lead excerpt and Template:Transclude random excerpt.
Tools are provided for building and maintaining portals, including automated portals that update themselves in various ways.
And, if you are bored and would like something to occupy your mind, we have a wonderful task list.
From your friendly neighborhood Portals WikiProject. Hope to see you there. Sincerely, — The Transhumanist 07:27, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
Added Fading puppy syndrome
I've done a quick redlink fix by adding the Fading puppy syndrome article, but it probably needs some help both in content and styling. I'm only recently returned to active Wiki-ing, and have very little real knowledge of canines, so some help in refining this article would be appreciated. :) - Kenneaal (talk) 11:22, 15 May 2019 (UTC)
