Signups open for The Core Contest

The Core Contest—Wikipedia's most exciting contest—will take place this year from April 15 to May 31. The goal: to improve vital or other core articles, with a focus on those in the worst state of disrepair. Editing can be done individually, but in the past groups have also successfully competed. There is £300 of prize money divided among editors who provide the "best additive encyclopedic value". Signups are open now. Cheers from the judges, Femke, Casliber, Aza24.

If you wish to start or stop receiving news about The Core Contest, please add or remove yourself from the delivery list.

Tagging bot proposed

An experienced bot op has volunteered to tag thousands of biographies for this WikiProject. Please see Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/Qwerfjkl (bot) 19. The proposal is to tag only the most obvious articles, so there should be a very high success rate. WhatamIdoing (talk) 17:48, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Controversies

Need a bit of help--I can never find that place that suggests "Controversy sections are discouraged". Thanks, Drmies (talk) 20:49, 9 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Drmies: there's {{Criticism section}} and an essay, Wikipedia:Criticism, which I think is where a lot of the resistance to controversy sections comes from. That said, there's a sentence in WP:NPOV that says "Try to achieve a more neutral text by folding debates into the narrative, rather than isolating them into sections that ignore or fight against each other", which seems a bit discouraging toward controversy sections. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 03:04, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
NinjaRobotPirate, that's the phrasing I remember. Thank you so much. Drmies (talk) 20:36, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Help for Draft:James Edward Ketelaar

Draft:James Edward Ketelaar

Hi guys — I'm a new editor here on Wikipedia. Creating a page for James E. Ketelaar, professor emeritus at the University of Chicago. He teaches and researches Japanese religion. Would love to hear your feedback, and, if possible, what I need to do to have the page published / reviewed.

Looking forward to working with you,

There is a current RFC on a page that is a part of this Wikiproject. The RFC summary is as follows:

This article about two Victorian crossdressers currently ends with a limerick in which an animal being sodomized asks the perpetrator if he had mistaken the animal for the two article subjects. There are two questions for consideration: (1) Should this limerick end the article, as it currently does? and (2) Should the text of the limerick be included?

Any participation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much, --Jerome Frank Disciple 14:26, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Death section

For people that have died, should a "Personal life" section be expanded to explicitly be titled "Personal life and death", if the death is but a one or two sentence update, and not otherwise extraordinary (Example)? I've seen an increase in this practice while reviewing recent death nominations at WP:ITNC. I personally find it verbose.—Bagumba (talk) 05:45, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It seems a bit verbose to me, too. There are probably things that I'd focus my attention on before that, though. If nobody objected to a proposal at some central place, it seems like the sort of thing you could add to one of AWB's clean up rules. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 02:25, 23 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Roosevelt family

I've opened a discussion at Talk:Roosevelt family#List of organizations about whether it is appropriate to put a list of businesses and organizations that may be associated with members of the family. I believe Draft:Stockton Rush demonstrates that GNG has been met. The subject has recently died in the 2023 Titan submersible incident. Could anyone take a look at the article? It would be great to get it into mainspace now. Thriley (talk) 19:18, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Tim Moore

\This is slander! I feel very strongly about pain and suffering, for Tim Moore. He should sue this couple if they have anything to be able to pay or take, for the embarrassment. Tim Moore is very family oriented and a gentleman. I'm sure he is baffled/ I'm so upset to see this nonsense online. This couple should be so ashamed of their selves. I believe in Tim! There is not another man around here or anywhere like him. He has the best personality! I have known Time for about 25 years this took me by surprise! I don't know what this couple is toT prove or receive. If they are allowed to receive any money at all there wioll be no hope humanity. The only decent man left Tim Moore! You should receive respect as successful you are in taking care of us. I think your amazing, Please let this make you go harder and higher! I never knew how muvh power the governor has until now. I think you would be a great one! You have my vote, This maybe advertising for you. Tim Moore for president! 2600:1700:FF40:D6F0:6928:A57A:CFAA:76C8 (talk) 16:04, 23 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Redlinked people

I produced a series of lists for WikiProject Women in Red showing titles resembling female names with most incoming redlinks. They are currently considering the entries for new articles. Would anyone be interested in similar lists but of men? These aren't exactly biography requests, as they aren't limited to topics which interest me and will include some non-notables and even non-people such as Albert Street (Ottawa), but they do show who is widely linked and lacks an article. I've produced a sample list for the first part of the alphabet here. Certes (talk) 12:44, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Feedback on Draft: Anna Kernahan

Hello everyone, I made a draft about a climate activist, Anna Kernahan. Since it is my first article, I don't know if it is good or not and I need some feedback . Talk page banner for Biographies

Hello all - I'm noticing an odd error message on the WikiProject Biography banners this morning, which wasn't there yesterday. It says, "[[Category:Script error: The function "quality" does not exist.-Class biography (sports and games) articles]]" (I've had to add the nowiki brackets so that the message appears here). An example of this can be found on Talk:Dominique Termansen. It seems to be connected to the class parameter, but I can't tell why it's appearing. If you can help with this, thank you! .......PKT(alk) 12:30, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The message seems to be gone now. Never mind! ....... PKT(alk) 21:34, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
