Mean Red Spiders is an alternative avant-garde rock and roll band formed in Toronto, Ontario Canada in September 1993. Their music is largely guitar-based, pop art influenced. Sonic shows are filled screens of liquidlight. Their music makes extensive use of distortion, digital keyboard loops, recorded voice samples, and effects pedals, creating a repeatable orchestrated wall of sound. Their music is a blend being frequently described in terms of post-punk , pop, contemporary, dreampop, shoegazer, space rock, indie rock or baroque pop styles, and falls largely into the larger psychedelic or neo-psychedelic pop and rock and roll oeuvre or space psychosis pop tradition.

Co-founding member David Humphreys, originally from Flemingdon Park [1], played his last show July 13, 2001, and left the band as part of finishing his conceptual art piece involving the film schedueles and posters of Toronto's oldest art house repeatory cinema, the Revue Cinema,[2], threatened to resign if he didn't become the "headmanger" at the Revue at a schedueled meeting with the owner[3] on September 11, 2001 who fired him November 11,2001 , evicted from his Beaconsfield home near Dufferin and College to go live in a Scarborough with his Mother and sister, and recieve psychiatric treatment for schizophrenia.
