A new source on Cerebral Folate Deficiency

Good evening, David! I came across a new review article about Cerebral folate deficiency - in your opinion, is this review good enough to be cited/quoted in the CFD article? Review: PMID 30916789 Hope you are doing fine! Cheers from Russia, ---CopperKettle 14:52, 17 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely a valid ref, and provides info to improve the CFD article. David notMD (talk) 16:37, 17 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Minimal Niacin dose for intramuscular injection enough for a flushing

Thank you for your edits of Niacin. There was a minimal dose specified to produce flushing. However, it was not specified whether it was an oral dose or IM/IV dose. Probably the oral one. If so, we should clarify that. Do you have a good source at hand? Also, it seems that for IM/IV path, even doses as small as 10 mg are enough to produce flushing. Don't you know where can we find the source for that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Maxim Masiutin (talkcontribs) 20:00, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In a country where I live (Republic of Moldova), nicotinic acid is only available in pharmacies, as a separate substance, in injectable form only. The oral form is only available in small doses as a vitamin-B complex together with other vitamins. In Russia, situation is the same - the main form is injectable, albeit the tablets of nicotinic acid are avaialable as a serarate substance, the injectable form is more widespread. That's why I have asked to you emphasize on the form of niacin. By the way, I have substantially edited the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CYP4F2 today. Could you please review it, maybe you may have some ideas on how can I improve it? Thank you very much in advance for your feedback. -- Maxim Masiutin (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 22:38, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Quite an impressive article! Thank you for your contributions :) As you probably know, an editor of your experience can go ahead and move drafts directly to the mainspace instead of waiting for the often months-long queue - but there is nothing stopping you from continuing to use AfC if it is your preference. citation needed

About your comment here about leaving the citation needed rather than deleting. I find that the prevailing attitude in the circle of editors who work with medical articles the most is that statements without citations must be immediately deleted. This is not exactly my belief, but it is the prevailing one. It is what it is. MarshallKe (talk) 12:38, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A Scholarly Barnstar for the terrific work you did on the citations in support of the Sesame allergy GA

DYK for Sesame allergy

On 18 September 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Sesame allergy, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that because of the increasing prevalence of sesame allergy, the U.S. will join the EU and Canada in 2023 in instituting mandatory food labeling? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Sesame allergy. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Sesame allergy), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Hi David. I know you were hit by COVID and I hope you are all recovered (I saw your recent post at the Teahouse). I'm not sure whether you intend to start working on Mertbiol's suggestions but I'd be happy to help with the workload, probably from Sunday onwards. Is that OK and if so are there any bits you would specially like to hand over to me? Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:53, 14 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Mike Turnbull, Mertbiol - Thank you both for offer and patience. Actually, intending to start my replies to the GA review today. As for the medical path, first I got COVID and started Paxlovid. Five days later my wife tested positive and started Paxlovid. Five days after ending treatment, I tested positive again (am now negative again), and five days after my wife's treatment she tested positive again (and then today, negative!). Luckily, rebound symptoms were not too severe for either of us, and no evidence at present for post-COVID symptoms. David notMD (talk) 15:59, 14 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes that Nirmatrelvir/ritonavir#Rebound is quite common and one of the reasons that I don't think that therapy will be a long-term winner. Provided one is vaccinated I don't think most people need anti-virals as well. My own infection with omicron earlier this year proved to be mild, fortunately. Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:06, 14 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have created an article for the above individual, completely oblivious until the final seconds of posting it to the mainframe, that there was an ongoing draft article for her. My apologises if I have trodden on any toes - purely accidental. Two thoughts - firstly, obviously anyone is welcome to add to the article I have created from information in the draft; secondly, I am slightly puzzled as to why a draft article has remained as such for years, and so many editors have added to it, without it ever 'going live'. Anyhow, we are where we are. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 11:16, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Derek R Bullamore my editing involvement in this was strictly drive-by; I have no skin in this game. David notMD (talk) 15:40, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

BluesRock007 You had an abandoned draft created by someone else back in 2020 (Draft:Eliza Neals) unabandoned earlier this month. Separately, User:Derek R Bullmore created an article about her, leaving a note on your Talk page to this effect. A third editor removed the connection to the draft, so that it now forwards to the article. What I suggest is that you look at the article and see if it can be improved. Although the draft no longer exists, if you click on Veiw history at the existing article, you can see and retrieve the content you had previously added to the defunct draft. I suggest you copy interesting parts of this to your Sandbox and then see if those parts are worth adding to the article. David notMD (talk) 15:40, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

?

Hello. In regards to your deletion of my content:

Abraham has been publicly vocal and quoted in publications about various aspects of his profession. He disagrees with insurance obstacles that patients face concerning only prescribing drugs when working through grief is the primary issue, where he says “There's not a pill for that.” [1] [1]

where I was trying to improve an article and you deleted a citation and quote with remarks "removed last paragraph, as less than 5% of the ref content was about Abraham, and definitely not worthy of a quote by him" I am really curious about what even led you to this article and what motivated you to undo where I am here trying to build an encyclopedia? I do not disagree with the facts that the quote and presence of the subject was but a small piece of a bigger article cited, but your application of standards seems a little heavy-handed to me, as I was just trying to add some interesting content to the article. Thank you for any help you can give me explaining this! TeeVeeed (talk) 13:19, 18 October 2022 (UTC) TeeVeeed (talk) 13:19, 18 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Alejandra.IoECorp (13:28, 20 November 2022)

Hi David,

Thank you for your mentoring!

For my first consult, I want first to tell you why I'm here... ^_^

I'm part of a tech company; I joined Wikipedia to learn if I could add information about the Internet of Everything (IoE).

I've been reading the rules. Everything about: conflict of interest, how to request an article, and how (from what I understand) it might be possible for me to create an article page (in a neutral and non-commercial way). My priority is to do this in the most respectful and neutral way, but all the information has been a bit confusing for me, so I would be thankful if you guide me through the process.

So, my questions are: As there are now companies specifically dedicated to this area of technology, my goal is to try to create good/neutral references that extend the information about this topic, because we understand it's still kind of new and confusing. It could be a good idea for me to create the Internet of Everything page? or should I'd better do an article request?

I hope I explained this clearly, as I really want to be as respectful and neutral, to add valuable information keeping the good quality and mission of Wikipedia.

Looking forward to your help. Thank you in advance! Best regards. --Alejandra.IoECorp (talk) 13:28, 20 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Alejandra.IoECorp I see you have done some preliminary draft work at User:Alejandra.IoECorp/sandbox. Before going any further, declare your paid status on your User page. This applies even if you have not been asked by IoE to work on this project. Requesting an article is a fool's errand, as there is a large backlog and very few editors on the hunt for an idea for an article. Best path is for you to use WP:YFA as a guide for creating a draft copy/pasting the content in your Sandbox. Then submit to Articles for Creation when you believe the draft is adequate.
That said, unless IoE Corp has been written about by people with no connection to the company, you will not be able to establish notability. Examples of what does NOT count toward notability include what the company says about itself, i.e., website, social media, press releases, interviews with senior staff... Publications about routine financial transactions , ditto. David notMD (talk) 19:57, 20 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the reply David notMD.
Ok, I will start by declaring my paid status... I requested a change for my username (as I put the name of the company, and I understand its incorrect for neutral reasons), but, maybe I should leave it like this thus I'm going to declare my paid status; please, let me know what it is best.
Then, I will write the article to submit it to Articles of Creation... using neutral references, as you have indicated to me.
Thank you for the help!
PS. I also saw the feedback on some of my contributions, thank you, it will help me to improve my editions. Alejandra.IoECorp (talk) 10:30, 21 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Alejandra.IoECorp is an allowed name, whereas IoECorp would not be. See WP:NCORP for guidance on articles about companies. David notMD (talk) 11:25, 21 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thanks for the clarification. :) Alejandra.IoECorp (talk) 18:29, 21 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @David notMD,
I like to ask you another question...
I was wondering if there is a possibility to ask if any of the editors could help me write the article, maybe an editor with tech expert? Maybe comment about this in the tech project?
Thank you! Al3ka.DdR (talk) 12:37, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There is an article proposal process, but basically a dead letter, as the great majority of people interested in creating articles have their own ideas. Wikipedia:WikiProject also exists as a mean of finding people with common interests, but many of those projects have become inactive. David notMD (talk) 16:33, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I do not know how to tag people in talk page as I don't get notifications if they are not in my talk page but I have replied to your comment Veganpurplefox (talk) 23:42, 14 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Veganpurplefox There are a number of ways to "ping" someone at an article Talk page, Teahouse or your Talk page. I use double curley brackets {{ }} with, inside, the letter u followed by a vertical 'pipe' (its on the backslash key) and then the editor's user name. Ah I see, thanks, I have improved the draft and removed all information that didn't came from reliable source Veganpurplefox (talk) 04:59, 15 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Veganpurplefox I am not a reviewer. Good luck. David notMD (talk) 05:35, 15 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for all the help! Veganpurplefox (talk) 05:50, 15 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

'Any Tips' From Teahouse

I just wanted to know tips on how to make more edits on mainspace. BloxyColaSweet (talk) 10:42, 14 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

BloxyColaSweet In the recent days you have made about 20 stub articles. Expanding those to Start would be of benefit to future readers, as would Stub to Start for other plant species articles. My choice is to raise C-class and B-class articles to GA, each effort taking 50-150 edits. David notMD (talk) 11:15, 14 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. BloxyColaSweet (talk) 11:16, 14 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from JEPomer (19:46, 19 January 2023)

Where is the SEARCH field on Wikipedia pages?

This has apparently disappeared since the "new look" started. --JEPomer (talk) 19:46, 19 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Still top, more to the left. I chose to change my Preferences to switch to the old version, which is still ssupported. David notMD (talk) 00:56, 20 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Wahoo52 on Talk:Ice spike (14:36, 4 February 2023)

Hello. I have a good photo of an ice spike. How do I submit it? --Wahoo52 (talk) 14:36, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wahoo52 The Upload Wizard at Commons https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:UploadWizard provides a means to add your photo(s) to Commons. Those photos can then be used in articles. When I searched Commons for photos tagged as ice spike I saw the ones already used in Ice spike, and others, so I am not sure if the article would benefit from another example. I believe I have accurately allocated content to each of two distinct free Black communities as discussed on 11 March 2019 on Talk:Guinea_Town,_New_York.
